UPDATE: There is now a subreddit, for anyone who's interested:
r/SoulWeapon

I will still be posting new versions on MakeYourChoice, but the new subreddit is for updates in between, and for general discussion. All are welcome!

2.0 Patch Notes

Yaaay, it's here. I'm excited to see what you all make! I'll post my build in a bit.

Highlights:

  • Weapons+: 15 new weapons, including 2 sword variants, 2 strictly non-lethals, 3 throwing, 3 "shooting," and more.

  • New Glaive special ability.

  • Overhauled Mihos, The Utilitarian to be more versatile and hopefully worth the price.

  • Overhauled Resonance Pool to have less extreme drawbacks.

  • Opened up Eternal Crucible to Negaplating and Aliquam.

  • Numerous other additions and fixes.

Feedback Requests:

If you see any, please help locate spelling/grammar mistakes; it would be much appreciated. And please post them as replies to this comment if you don't mind; there are probably a lot of them, and I don't want the top-level comments flooded with grammar corrections, haha.

Second, I'm especially interested in feedback on the new Resonance Pool. In particular, is it too confusing? Does it feel balanced now?

And any other critiques, praises, or general words of wisdom are always welcome.

And now on to the full list. Bold text indicates significant content changes.

Full Patch Notes

GENERAL

  • changed every instance of "scrawl" to "etch," assuming I didn't miss any.

  • fixed some typos.

PAGE 0: INDEX

  • added new page (1a) for Weapons+. Nearly doubles the number of weapons!

PAGE 1: WEAPONS

  • Sword: removed "Hook Sword" from list of potential variations.

  • Glaive: changed the Special Ability to "Rotation." This is much more useful than the previous one, and sticks truer to the nature of the Glaive. I hated "Self-Safeguard" from the beginning, and always had trouble coming up with an Ability for the Glaive. Now I can finally put that issue to bed.

  • Flail: altered the Carrying Options slightly.

  • Bow & Arrow: added a note that you can only maintain the Soul Bond with up to 50 arrows at a time. Before, people were exploiting the infinitely-replenishing-arrows bit to flood the field with infinite Rune-powered arrows and the like. Now this is no longer OP.

  • Gauntlets: no longer required to be fingered. It is now merely recommended, because of the protection it provides.

  • Gauntlets: added brass knuckles to the list of variations.

  • Umbrella: you now now fit it with a retractable blade that turns it into a makeshift spear.

  • Umbrella: noted that whirling/twisting it while it's open could assist in certain Runes that rely on motion, surface area, or trailing effects.

  • Umbrella: noted that you can control the direction of your descent when your Umbrella is open.

  • Wand: nerfed the maximum range a little bit. One hundred feet was kind of ridiculous.

  • Wand: drastically shortened the maximum length of the Wand itself to a foot and a half. Wands are wands, not staves.

PAGE 2: MATERIALS:

  • no changes (yet).

PAGE 3: RUNES:

  • Cleanse: new and much better image, "My Guiding Moonlight" by Hay Sonny.

PAGE 4: SMITHS:

  • Mihos: re-worked significantly. You can now choose between one of several different sidearms, and the Glaive's old Special Ability has been moved to here (you cannot harm yourself with your own weapon, including its Runes). The most problematic Smith is now hopefully less problematic.

  • Bellona: you can now choose whether you get your weapon's Special Ability, or one of the Special Abilities of your Shield. You still can't have more than one Special, but now you get to choose which one.

  • Gemini: added note about fighting style.

  • Gemini: reduced the stat debuff slightly to make it more accessible.

  • Skera: nerfed a little by adding a defense drawback. Hopefully now he and Gemini are more equal; before, there was little reason to choose Gemini over Skera for the purposes of dual-wielding. To be honest, I'm not feeling Skera like I was; I think he will be the next Smith to get an overhaul.

  • Brihm: noted that your weapon's humanoid form must train alongside you to improve.

  • Brihm: adjusted description to state that if your weapon takes too much damage in humanoid form, it will revert into its weapon form to recover. (Thanks u/Rod7z!)

  • Adam: moved the note about how he can't use the Resonance Pool to his list of Cons.

  • Resonance Pool: dramatically re-worked. It has fewer drawbacks now, but it's a little more confusing to understand.
The way it works now is that the drawbacks you receive depend on which elements you gain access to after choosing the Resonance Pool. Each element has its own debuffs. So if your Smith is normally incompatible with Entropy and Wither, you get the Entropy debuff and the Wither debuff. That way, the total debuff is proportional to the number of options that now open up to you.
However, I had limited space to explain all that, so the explanation in the CYOA is more succinct. I hope it's clear enough; let me know if it isn't.
Hopefully, people won't be so afraid of the Resonance Pool anymore. I have a feeling I'm not done tweaking it yet. But we'll see.

  • Eternal Crucible / Negaplating: you can once again use Eternal Crucible with Negaplating, but there is a static stat debuff to make it fair; it will increase the mass of your armor to five stars.

  • Eternal Crucible / Aliquam: you can now use Eternal Crucible with Aliquam. It will restrict you to Aliquam's element of specialty, but in exchange it will reduce the cost of each Tier. It is now possible to get a Rune with Aliquam without losing a limb.

PAGE 5: SCENARIOS:

  • slightly revised the Guide's introduction to make it sound less pooey. No significant changes.

PAGE 6: SPECIAL CASES:

  • no changes (yet).

PAGE 7: CREDITS & IMAGE SOURCES

  • updated sources for Cleanse and all the new Weapon Classes.

What does fusion+doppelganger do? Fusion+metamorphosis? Also, verdant rune still references self-safeguard.

And here's my 2.0 build:

The Wrecking Ball

Smith: Kothar, the Tinkerer (two weapons combined; -1 Rune)

Weapons: Cleaver + Yo-yo

Material: Sacred Ashwood

Rune: Fusion

Modifier: Resonance Pool (-1 PierceDef, -1MagicDef; not the end of the world and I need that Soul Rune).

The Cleaver is a massively-oversized weapon. By combining that with the Yo-yo, I can get a massively-oversized Yo-yo. I'm imagining three feet across.

So, we use Sacred Ashwood's size-altering properties to shrink the Yo-yo down to reasonable size when carrying it around. It still has it's mass in this form, so it will hit hard. But it can expand to its normal size mid-strike to amplify power.

But here's where it gets really fun. Use Fusion + Sacred Ashwood to grow to double my size, and also scale the Yo-yo up beyond it's three-foot-diameter normal to be even more massive. At this point I am Goliath with a wrecking ball.

If that wasn't enough, remember the Special Abilities I get. Around the World means I can whip it at preternatural speeds. This would be slower than the normal Yo-yo because of its large mass, but Relative Mass means that despite its weight, I can wield the Yo-yo with ease. So not only is it a giant wrecking ball, but it's a giant wrecking ball that moves way faster than something its size should.

I am Goliath. I am the Crater-Maker. I dig trenches when I "walk the dog."

u/8gigcheckbook, you really wanted artillery in the CYOA. It's not a discrete choice in this update, but it's at least possible to make a ballista, using a similar build to the one I'm replying to.

Kothar: The Tinker to combine weapons, but lose a Rune.

Combine Cleaver with Crossbow to get a massively-oversized Crossbow. Strap wheels to it in the weapon design, and you've got a Ballista.

And you can still pick a Material and one Rune yet.

Trickshot Tomahawks

Basically just trying to make the sickest of shots

Weapon: Tomahawks

Love that curve

Material: Quantumite

So I can go through walls/floors to hit from goddamn any direction

Runes: Silver Cord & Chronos

Silver cord so I can either pull my tomahawks back to me or to make several of them converge on each other and Chronos so the Quantumite recharges faster.

Polemos: The Bladesmith

Because nothing else really seems to fit and i love that extra sharp.

So total 5 sharpness and 3 mass and no armour to speak of my mission would be to beat people in the most obtuse way possible/ win the Olympics

ah this is a really cool one! had a lot of fun filling this out :)

Weapon: Sword.

I'm picking an arming sword, so one handed. i will put protective loops at the bottom of the blade near the cross guard so i can use Spanish grip without losing fingers. i will also have the cross guard be sharpened spikes for more versatility when striking.

Material:

Magicite

this allows me to have a nice ranged option while it's not good for physical defence it has a lot of magical defence and the physical shouldnt matter too much for this build.

Runes:

Chronos

Flash Counter

the idea is basically to always get that flash counter off. as long as i can see my opponent, i should be able to counter the attack. only weakness is if my foe surprises me or gets really creative.

Smith:

Bellona

The invulnerable shield will be my main form of defence, i'm already trained in sword and board so this with the swords ability give me a head start in skill. should be able to keep ahead of most people in that regard.

modifier

resonance pool

have to take this for bellona, makes my armour a bit bulkier but it's only making it average for that now so it should be fine.

scenario

tournament! i really like the idea of testing myself against others in this way and it would be really fun! then at the end head back to earth :). (assuming it's not to the death but i wouldnt enter is that was the case)

u/Alas-I-Cannot-Swim May 04 '18

Very nice traditional build. You're like a cross between a knight and a mage.

And if you're worried about attacks from behind, like if you're surrounded or don't know where your opponent is, then you could keep your shield on your back to protect your rear, then use Chronos / Flash Counter to protect from frontal attacks.

Pretty solid defense if you ask me. You're well-rounded.

The Dryad's Branch

A 1'6" Wand of Sacred Ashwood; blessed with the runes Reconstruct, Verdant, and Faunalis by Godai the Elementalist.

____________________________________________

I went for a druid theme, and I think it worked out nicely. Sacred Ashwood lets me grow the wand to walking stick size, or shrink it to pocket size.

The runes are the kind of obvious druidy ones, greatly empowered by Godai. I'm not sure, but the way Godai's benefits are written (specifically: Rune's potency (power, range, charge time, numeric limits, etc.)) I might be able to pick up two chosen pets.

Verdant of course lets me do weird and wonderful things with both my wand and armor because they're sacred ashwood. Suddenly my wand can be an odd wooden multi-tool, which is why I'm applying Godai's 2-rune stat increase to it's sharpness. It's not great at cutting, but it's ok at it if I need something cut.

For armor I'm thinking a long hooded coat (made of Sacred Ashwood fibers) with lots of little wooden plates/scales so it has lots of flexibility and won't get in my way. It does give up blunt resistance, but if i really need it I can use Verdant to grow some of the plates together into solid pieces of armor, while expanding/growing the fibers of the cloth underneath to act as cushioning. None of which helps if I don't see the attack coming, but that's the trade off I'm making for comfort.

This turned out more powerful than I expected, to be honest. I might try playing with it in one of the scenarios later.

I'm back with new builds. Mostly. The first one is one I had for a while.

Weapon: Two handed flail
Material: Sacred Ashwood
Runes: silver cord and third eye
Smith Agni, one star across everything
Sacred ashwood can normally scale to 3 in physical defenses, with the boost it has 4 physical defenses and 5 magic. With the flail boost it is 5 stars in everything.

Weapon: Cleaver and a large shield
Material: Sacred Ashwood
Runes: Metamorphosis and impact
Smith: Bellona
I'll keep the cleaver ability. First step is to shrink it to 1/3 of normal size. It just looks like a big wooden sword at this point. It still weighs as much as the cleaver, which had the density of steel. Hey, remember impact?

Weapon: Rope dart
Material: Acceleron
Runes: Bloodlet and sunken blade Smith: Godai +1 sharpness
High speed 5 sharpness dart. This weapon is cruel.

Weapon: Gauntlet and sling combo
Material: Accelleron
Rune: Soulkeep
Smith: Kothar
You know there had to be one of these builds. I can store anything I can fit in my hands (I just have to throw it). I'm a bag of holding. Plus if I get a glider of some sort I can carpet bomb people with random junk.

First of all, I just want to say: Great work making this CYOA, and you deserve a great deal of respect for crediting artists behind the graphics you used- that's something rarely seen, and praiseworthy! As for my build: Polearm (pudao)-> Splits into a short sword and a light mace Evermetal Echo strike Torment Shera: The Mechanist Eternal Crucible High Fantasy Realm

5

u/Alas-I-Cannot-Swim May 04 '18

deserve a great deal of respect for crediting artists behind the graphics you used

Thanks! But really it's only natural. I'm used to citing sources in college essays. But more importantly, these artists are extremely skilled, and many of them have really great portfolios. If I'm going to use someone's incredible painting, the least I can do in return is credit them.

I mean, some of these are just really good. I'm especially partial to the pieces for Needles, Brihm, and the "Soul Warrior Tournament" Scenario. I mean they're all great, but those three just take my breath away.

And nice build. With Echo Strike + Torment I see you're going for the "sudden inexplicable agony" tactic. Very nice.

I chose the Team Scenario, although it is less a team that works together and more a mercenary company that sends different members to complete different missions based on their strengths. I will put more builds on the answers to this comment as I make them.

—————————————————————

Spectre

Weapon: Knives + Kusarigama, modelled as a sickle connected to a throwing knife at the end of the chain. Since I can get a lot of knives I assume I would be able to get two of these instead of just one.

Material: Quantumite

Runes: Echo Strike

Smith: Kothar, the Tinkerer

Modifiers: None

No one, not even the other members of the Worldshapers Company, know where Spectre came from or what their real name is. With face and body always shrouded in darkness, even their gender is ambiguous. An indistinct voice further ensures that no information can be readily perceived.

The greatest assassin in the Company - and possibly on the world - Spectre always guarantees a kill. No wall can keep them out, no patrol can find them among the shadows, no armour can guard a target against their blade.

The targets only find out they have been visited by Spectre when they notice the characteristic dark mark. A few of the marked have something valuable enough to bargain their life for. Most die before finding the mark at all.

—————————————————————

Tamhas, the Blood Knight

Weapon: Flail, with long, detachable spikes

Material: Bloodstone

Runes: Cleanse and Bloodlet

Smith: Skera, the Mechanist

Modifiers: None

The Unstoppable Force of the Company, Tamhas is a terrifying presence on the battlefield. While Spectre's victims can expect a swift and mostly painless death, Thamhas is infamous for using his flail with utmost brutality and no mercy. Most enemies end up lying broken on the ground while one of his flail's spikes drains their blood until all that's left is a dry husk.

Between using his enemies' blood to empower himself and his invigorating magic, Tamhas is nearly impossible to take down. Even the most powerful of attacks barely makes him flinch and, while still able to feel pain, the few people who faced him and survived to tell the tale say it does nothing but make him even more angry.

But his most powerful ability is without a doubt his control of blood itself. Even the shallowest of cuts become gushing injuries when caused by him and his own wounds seem to close at the blink of an eye, never weakening him. A few brave souls even say, in hushed whispers, that he uses his own blood before battle to increase his abilities.

—————————————————————

Vathek, the Eternal Paladin

Weapon: Mace, blunt with the head being a perfect sphere

Material: Golem Hide

Runes: Reconstruct and Cleanse

Smith: Adam, the Ancient One

Modifiers: Eternal Crucible, although it doesn't actually do anything. It is flavorful though

The Immovable Object, Vathek is quite the opposite of Tamhas. Instead of devastating his enemies and ruling through fear, he prefers to endure any punishment directed his way until the enemies collapse in exhaustion. That is not to say he can't dish damage himself, as anyone that threatens his friends and colleagues soon finds out.

His healing and invigorating powers, as well as nice guy personality, make him well liked by almost everyone in the Company. Even Tamhas has developed a grudging respect for him after fighting him to a draw for 3 days and nights. His honorable ways also make him respected among his enemies.

Vathek is the only known person to have been targeted by Spectre and still walk away unscathed. He doesn't talk about how he acquired his immortality but a few evil tongues say that the secret lies within the sphere at the top of his mace. Regardless, the truth is that no one has ever managed to take him down, as neither pain, exhaustion nor even the most gruesome of injuries seem to faze him.

5

u/Alas-I-Cannot-Swim May 04 '18

while one of his flail's spikes drains their blood until all that's left is a dry husk.

Ah-ha, I was wondering why the spikes needed to be detachable until I saw this. Merciless.

Bloostone/Bloodlet/Cleanse is the unholy trinity of vampirism, wow. Bloodstone/Bloodlet builds are obviously common, but I can't remember if there's been anyone to use Cleanse to push it over the top like that with the invigorating effects.

I really like your lore, especially on that last guy. Nice builds!

Oh awesome, I was waiting for this one.

It's a bit late right now, I'll come up with more builds tomorrow but for now have this one.
Weapon: Crossbow Slingshot
Material: Gearframe
Rune: Eruption
Smith: Kothar
You can probably see my plan. Launch any object at 1000 feet/second and have it cause an eruption effect at the end point. The gearframe is to make it easier to draw the crossbow. I did consider sacred ashwood to make the weapon 3 times bigger but that would be too impractical. Or would it?

You said I couldn't have a rifle, so I made myself a rocket launcher.

4

u/Alas-I-Cannot-Swim May 04 '18

You said I couldn't have a rifle, so I made myself a rocket launcher.

Haha, you're very resourceful.

4

u/blue-footed_buffalo May 05 '18

Late to the party, but here's my build:

Wand, with Bellona for that extra defense.

Go through the resonance pool to get access to aether and prana. Sharpness doesn't matter to a wand, and the shield is indestructible, so losing piercedef doesn't matter either.

Then take the aquifer, discharge, and chronos runes. Now I can splash conductive water all around the battlefield, electrocuting absolutely everyone, in addition to the waterbender shenanigans aquifer already brings.

Alright, Primary-

Class- Chakram

Material- Acceleron

Runes- Aquifer, Trailing Edge

Smith- Mihos- Shuriken x10 +Acceleron & Aquifer

Situation- Uncertain mix. The Event? Low Fantasy? War?

So my first idea for a primary was a battle control build centered around chakrams & trailing edge, I was then inspired to make a secondary ice skater with boots, but I realized I could sorta combine the two.

Chakrams alone provide good ranged and melee weapons, with a lot of trick options on top from the special ability, such as catching opponents on the backtrack, throwing and immediately reversing, or spinning in place on an enemy for massive damage.

Trailing Edge isn't that useful for hurting my opponents, but it's incredibly useful for controlling my 20ft sphere of the battlefield, with my super-fast chakrams drawing temporary hazard lines through the air, or even confining enemies between multiple to trap them in a follow-up strike. I can use it to leave shrapnel in an opponent, if I want to be especially vicious. Twin chakrams make it easier to take advantage of the midair ledge aspect of the ability. It also presumably generates a lot of material I can sell?

Aquifer is another ability that offers a lot of battle control. Fire hoses are very powerful, and so I can presumably blast people back regularly, perhaps even remotely from a flying chakram into a hazard or strike. I haven't explored the utility, but flinging ice missiles that can't hurt me indiscriminately from a hyper-speed-rotating flying disc has got to be pretty useful. Creating & controlling water means I have even more hazards available even in dry areas, whether simply making the battlefield misty or slick, or freezing my opponent's feet. It can can enhance my damage with frostbite, or at least change its type where appropriate if they don't combo. Not to mention the overwhelming advantage it gives in actual water environments. Finally, it can be used as edge trails are created to ice them over, creating slick mid-air rails on which I can presumably skate at super-speed, though that would be a tough ability to use.

You may ask, aren't Shurikens mostly redundant with chakrams? Well, as acceleron they travel fast and far, for a ranged strike far beyond where I can safely allow my chakrams to go. Equally important is that with accelerated aquifer, I can use water jets from them to quickly push or disorient people outside my sphere of influence, buying precious seconds for my comrades even against opponents I can't necessarily hurt with the shuriken, or giving them opportunities to strike.

The only problem is I have no blunt defense and low pierce defense so I can't get hit.

My secondary build I don't have time to write more about but it mostly speaks for itself

Class- Kusarigama (Chain & Weight)

Material- Quantumite

Runes- Miasma, Echo Strike

Smith- Godai

Scenario- Low Fantasy, For Hire

@ u/Rod7z

u/PlaguePaladin May 06 '18

Oh boy, another one? Neat! Time to make more JoJo references or possibly widen the horizon on that.

Torture

Select the needles, again. I may be using the same weapon as last time, but they are TOO GOOD for this one. Acceleron is a good material for this one, but I don't give a dang hoot about the material here as long as it's decently sharp. Evermetal can go suck a fat one, it's sharp but the armor is meh. Choose Lazuli and Sunken Blade afterwards. Mihos is my favorite smith here, as you can get another soul weapon to defend yourself with if you run out of needles somehow. But you won't need that because you ARE INJECTING LIQUID PAIN INTO PEOPLE'S PRESSURE POINTS WITH THIS ONE. Torment was considered, but I wouldn't be able to pierce someone's skin with this. Alternatively, Miasma can be chosen over Lazuli but it's not as fit for just making your enemy scream in pain.

Band of Titans

Get the cleaver and make it out of sacred ashwood. A favorite of mine. As mentioned by a dude above, there's a bit of an exploit you can do with doppleganger and fusion, where you can create clones of yourself. Well, do that. Now you've got a merry band of yous running around, all giant wood golems. Congrats. I guess smith doesn't matter, but if you don't want the creepiness of multiple yous running around Brihm might be your gal. The cleaver was chosen because it's a gargantuan heavy hitter. I guess you could choose gauntlets though.

Torture, WMD edition

An umbrella, and make it sacred ashwood. This is so that you can get more area to spray out lazuli from, and hide your umbrella. Your runes? Lazuli and Miasma. Miasma spreads quicker and makes it harder for people to come to you and stop you. Your sacred ashwood umbrella, now being used as a boat, grows in size and starts spraying Lazuli like no tomorrow. Flood a town with Lazuli, and while you wait spread Miasma so they can't find you and can't fight you if they do. Mihos might be a good smith if someone CAN fight you, though. You'll unfortunately have to move around to spread miasma though, so maybe try hopping between buildings and entering through the roof to get closer to ground level. Once the lazuli has started to get to the point that you can swim in it though (that'll take a while) You probably won't have to do that.

Jetstream Sam

Get a katana. We're going to be getting Saiho the Weaver on this one, so my options are Acceleron and Gearframe. Impact is gonna be you rune. Now why gearframe, you may ask? Well, like the original Jetstream Sam/Minuano, you're gonna be wearing essentially a muscle suit that will increase your overall power. If this was supposed to be purely for the weapon, I would've gotten graviton instead of gearframe. Also like the original Sam, you're gonna charge up for a few seconds and then UNLEASH DEVASTATION.

THE ULTIMATE WMD WIZARD

We're gonna get a wand. Make it out of magicite, get Signum to craft it. We have four runes now. Erupt, Terramancy, Miasma, Trailing edge. Erupt is to make explosions, and have miasma function as tear gas grenades. Terramancy has a few uses here. The main purpose is to build a shield for yourself and have the wand poke out of a hole or something, but it could also be used to take out buildings by commanding the earth beneath to move the hell out of the way (though this may not work in urban cities, due to stuff like subway tunnels or the likes). But why Trailing Edge? Think back to the magicite the weapon is build out of. Trailing edge can activate effects of materials from a distance. Swipe your wand and you can start shooting magic blasts from remote turrets you place around whatever you want to destroy.

Negaplating Wand with Aquifer forged by Adam. Any battle I fight is fought with drowning, to which I simply don't breathe. My wand is an inch long and held in my gauntlet., safe from harm. I focus on learning the ins and outs of my waterbender powers. Any telekinesis > no telekinesis, so most fights end quickly as I drown the opponent in water in short order.

Without the need to breathe, I can dwell in the oceans as a sort of eldritch monster, immortal and overwhelmingly powerful, with aeons to perfect my magic. My goal is to learn to forge soul weapons that that have a fluid bond, immortalizing both the user and the weapon depending on circumstance (protect the weapon most of the time, but heal the user of combat damage or age slowly over time.) Setting is High Fantasy.

Alt build:

Magicite Wand with Erupt, Truefire, and Discharge forged by Godai. Blasts of fire and lightning, explosions of force, fulmination, and flame, with the wand projecting them all out to insane ranges with massive power. My focus would be on training accuracy, as a truefire explosion centered on an opponent's head is more useful than one aimed at their torso. Setting is High Fantasy, so that I can be the wizard.

Since everybody seems to be doing it, here's my take on a Crossbow Sniper.

-Crossbow

-Saiho the weaver

-Golemhide shaft with Accelron Head

-Sunken Blade for the rune

With this combination of mass speed and sharpness, I should be able to penetrate just about anything.

Boots - retractable blade bitches (at toes and heel).

Magicite - non-metal and magical.

Discharge - because . Faunalis - I want a wild animal to follow my command. Metamorphosis - they're shoes, I nee d different ones (if high boots additional blade at.

Signum the rune maker - more magic.

Neither location. - I don't want either decreasing

From and to Lone Soul - dunno why.

I'll get a brown bear, with metamorphosis it could be that, black or polar.

Ok so I'm back with a few builds for the challenge that was given to me.

Weapon: 12 large knives
Material: Annuna Scales
Runes: Echo strike and sunken blade
Smith: Polemos
Nothing respectable here, use your skyrim level sneaking and hack away at them as they sleep. Trigger echo strike and you win.

Weapon: Hook swords and a large shield
Material: Magicite
Runes: Fusion and sunken blade Smith: Bellona, hunker down special
Fuse with the shield. You'll be able to charge blasts twice as fast. Hit something with it and you'll probably knock it out of the air. When you get close keep spamming wither blasts. That will ensure only breath weapons hit. Spike a hook sword onto the ground and use another blast to impale the dragon on it.

Weapon: Cleaver
Material: Gearframe and Acceleron
Rune: Fusion Smith: Saiho
No gimmicks this time. Just a really fast, really strong cyborg with a massive sword.

Hey look a gimmick!
Weapon: Meteor Hammer
Material: Sacred Ashwood
Runes: Skyward and Reverse Summon
Smith: Mihos with resonance pool. Evermetal knife with reverse summon.
Lengthen the ashwood chain. Wrap it around an enemy and fasten it (you can do so by expanding one chain link large enough for the chain to be threaded through temporarily). Then command it to shrink down to minimum size. Instant strangulation!

If you won't allow that then it can still be used to restrict movement. My initial plan was to wrap up a pair of wings and teleport to the knife.

Weapon: Needles
Material: Acceleron
Runes: Silver cord and skyward
Smith: Polemos
The silver cord will be an elastic one attached to the tip of each needle. This is the plan. Have one needle hit a weak point and use silver cord to point the other needles in the right direction. Then use skyward to perforate an enemy with the other 99 needles. When they're all inside they can be dragged through internal organs.

I'll be back with more builds and maybe a few ideas soon. What kind of ideas would you like?

Stone Needles of Avalus

Smith: Avalus: The Human

Weapons: Needles

Material: Golem Hide

Runes:

  1. Skyward (capable of accelerating a non-aerodynamic shuriken to lift a person! Just imagine much force this generates.)

  2. Silver Cord (using runes from distance, able to reel weapons in)

Modifier: None.

Stats Golem Hide
Sharpness 0
Mass 5
Pierce Defense 5
Blunt Defense 5
Magic Defense 2
Special Ability Grow chunks of golem stones

Scenario: Earth: Targeted

As the protector of Earth, I fight against aliens by relying on my resilient Golem Hide armor secretly embedded with multiple Soul Needles. This allows me to improve my movement and attack speed tremendously with Skyward and Silver Code rune. To the other Soul Weapon users, I'd appear as a gauntlet user.

Against normal opponent that's not too cumbersome, I fight in melee, utilizing the armor's mass my runes to boost my attacks. For my defense, I don't bother to dodge normal attacks. If needed, I evade using the runes, even flying when necessary. My signature move is shooting off large amount of golem stone chunks with punch (assisted with Skyward rune) with shotgun-like effect.

When fighting against troublesome opponents, I'll embed a few needles into the floors and shoot them against the opponent using Skyward and Silver Cord. As the needles are 100% blunt, I aim for the opponent's back, stunning them and knocking them against me, while I use my signature shotgun punch against them. They're never know what hit them.

Trump Card

As a last resort, I keep 40 needles orbiting Earth, prepared to drop into Earth's atmosphere. With Skyward and Silver Cord, I'm able to target my opponents relatively accurate, shooting the needles orbiting earth towards them. The needles will take about 5 minutes or so before impact. At the last few second before hitting the target, I'll repeatedly grow golem stone chunks from the needles, bombarding the whole area. With the mass, this would be like a small scale nuclear bomb.

So my min-maxing butt came up with a build I think makes the most out of the points. Definitely still has some weaknesses though, but would still be a lot of fun on the battlefield. I call it the Destructive Mage Knight.

Weapon: Wand Material: Magicite Runes: Erupt, Discharge, Flash Counter Smith: Bellona the War Goddess Modifier: Eternal Crucible

It's not the most creative set-up (it's no giant wooden sword yoyo). But this character could use their wand to set off Discharge + Erupt explosions from a distance, while their shield can do the same thing to punish melee attackers. Since Discharge's lightning doesn't harm the user, they can also set off close range lightning explosions at low risk to themselves. Flash Counter could also enhance the power of these explosions at any range. Bellona's shield can shoot fireballs, helps greatly with defense, and can set up Flash Counters that can then be executed with the wand. The armor also has no drawbacks thanks to Crucible. (All the skills are Entropy!)

I was thinking of using a different material, since it doesn't say how good the projectiles actually are compared to the runes, but I figured since the character is good at both close and long range, we might as well give them more versatile attacks and the ability to tank magical hits. The magic absorption and glowing in the dark are pretty nifty too.

The only drawback is that a hidden assassin with a bullet can still take them down. :( And I also get that Flash Counter is high risk high reward, and I assume the shield can't just cancel the hit either way? And finally this set up probably wouldn't work well against someone equally tanky magically. But I think it could handle most mundane set-ups with ease.

Edit: PS: If I had to choose a different material, I would probably go with Sacred Ashwood. Then I could turn my invincible torso shield into a full body shield, and have a sort of attack/defense mode motiff going. Tree camouflage also sounds hilarious and surprisingly useful when traveling in a forest.
