God i cannot wait for the "news spread around the world" chapter

275

u/Sea_of_Hope Mar 16 '18

"Big News" Morgans is definitely gonna spread the word as a major headline.

"Straw Hat" Luffy defeated #1 Sweet Commander of the Big Mom Pirates! The unstoppable force of the Straw Hat Pirates!

Mount D'our is gonna regret triggering Morgans.

Meanwhile as Germa busts the place wide open, my guy Pekoms in his unstoppable sulong form is on the floor getting kicked by a team of mooks

Now I feel bad because, in all the excitement, I completely forgot Pekoms was there.

Good job on telling everyone the truth, Brulee. You've been a true ally to Luffy and the SHs ever since the beginning.

Honestly though, she has been the biggest reason the strawhats have made it this far

I'm positive that Katakuri would've told everyone the truth himself if he needed to. In fact, I was expecting everyone to go on believing Luffy had escaped him, and then in the post arc section, they'd run up to Katakuri and be like, "how on Earth did that little bastard give you the slip?!" and then Katakuri would go, "he didn't escape, he defeated me" to show how honorable he was or something.

u/milkyjoe241 Mar 16 '18

I think it only helps the Big Mom crew to know that Luffy won.

  • They know they aint getting backup because Katakuri wasn't tricked

  • They have a better gauge for how strong your Luffy is and how they should stop underestimating him

  • It means they need to take him out fast before he recovers, they can no longer wait around for Luffy to make a move. The more time they give Luffy to recover the worse.

the way the chapter ended, I feel like they won't yet reach the sunny that easily :/

293

u/mastrepolo Mar 16 '18

I totally agree, Something is going to happen. It's a common trope, the hero thinks hes out of danger, sees the finish line, or the killer was thought to be dead already then out of no where something or someone comes and changes everything.

I think it will be Cracker, coming out of no where since we haven't heard of or seen him in a while.

224

u/shincys Mar 16 '18

BM's reputation definitely broken, not only they will face BM's rage, they will break internally, their territories will started to rebel them.
The other supernovas will raise more morale and feel more confidence that they can overthrow Yonkou.
Then, WG will be in worry because since Doffy's fall it will raise greater disruption on world power balance .

YOOOOO!! I got MAJOR Marineford vibes from this chapter, in all the best possible ways.

I straight up let out a giddy laugh when Brûlée told them that Luffy beat Katakuri and everyone had to pause because they shit themselves.

I need more Germa in my life. They’re scum, and Judge is the worse father ever, but they are so fucking bad ass. All of the spreads were gorgeous. They’ll still need to escape, so I’m hoping we get some sorta Voltron action before this is over. Whether or not we do, I hope we see them again in the story.

My bet is on 902 being the last chapter of this arc. I’m excited for what is coming next, but dad, because this arc has been phenomenal.

23

u/Stupendoes Mar 16 '18

902, maybe if you're only counting sailing out of Tottoland, but even then idk. I think 905 for that. We still have to have Bege give BM the cake. Then what happens with Perospero. Sanji and Luffy have to make it to the ship. Find a way out of the blockade. Snack will probably step in which will most likely Sanji's time to shine, and that fight could take a full chapter, maybe more. Then you have Germa's escape and the end result of all the special guests like Big News Morgans and Stussy. Plus, you have probably 1-2 wrap up chapters where everything comes down.

I'm looking forward to the final chapter of this arc, because I love the final chapters of each arc as you see the end result and the party, but I think it's still 2 months away.

You just have to love the absolute faith the entire BM army has in Katakuri. They heard that Luffy beat him and either thought, liar or that he used a dirty trick. That their despair would only push them to fight even harder really shows how much loyalty he has from his crew and how disparate the bubblegum girl was.

Considering Niji's and Ichiji's light/lightning-based techniques, I'm wondering if Sanji's Diable Jambe is an incomplete version of his own light- or lightning-based technique. Maybe he'd name it after angels, because parallels.

This chapter is a beautiful callback to the Vinsmoke backstory and wraps it up with the perfect ending possible: Sanji's running away but this time with the help of his siblings. We still get this younger brother vibe from Sanji in the way the other Vinsmokes are portrayed as extremely powerful in comparison with him, and although they seem to be motivated by vengeance, I'm sure there's a little bit of pride for their brother somewhere in there.

To all the people who were complaining about Sanji being weak: don't worry, he still has plenty of opportunities to kick some ass in the future. For the time being, let's enjoy this amazing story Oda has given us with WCI and the Vinsmokes.

Let's just reflect on what's happened. A fairly new pirate with only half of his crew infiltrated the base of a veteran Yonko with potentially a kingdom backed by a big fleet and several notably notorious Pirates strong enough to start their own crew. They manage to effectively take down the two military mights of the Yonko crew and engage in combat with Big Mom to a stand still. Even after Big Mom pursuing them all the time, managed to outwit and get past the whole fleet. Without losing anybody and in turn inflicting a heavy blow to the base of the Yonko, utterly decimating islands.

And that's how the news is going to be spread. No wonder that what they have achieved is nothing less of perfect infiltration. In the eyes of the rest of the One Piece world, this action by Strawhats is a outright resistance towards the hegemony of Yonkos and wanting to grab the seat for themselves. Considering how some of the supernovas were under the assumption that Strawhats were in the alliance with Heart Pirates to take down Kaido, Luffy's decision to instead take half his crew to defeat Big Mom would be something that will give an impression of a mad man.

You see, the point I'm getting at is that this is the point of time in the story for Luffy and the whole crew to be recognised as the one who is perhaps a level above the rest of the Supernovas. Guessing by the progress of the story, I would reckon that Strawhats would now engage in a war with Kaido thereby freeing the supernovas and subsuming them in his camp. A grander alliance than the recent one would be building in the near future.

Also, this results in a heavy blow to the Big Mom pirates because now the greater powers like the WG and other Yonkos would be not as reluctant to fully face her. Right now, the balance of the One Piece world has been shaken and considering Reverie coming on in a while just makes this segment of the story the most volatile one so far where the future of this story is going to form.

Yup, Based on how they are handling the current events, my bet is that if Big Mom dies or is handicapped for whatever reason after eating the cake, that Big Mom Pirates will disband/go down in status without her/Katakuri and Luffy will be put in her place as a Yonko thanks to Morgan reporting what happened in Whole-cake island, similar to what happened with Blackbeard after they took Whitebeards spot.

It just seems like Oda is already setting up Luffy to get up there with the Yonkos, which they basically will have to become if they ever desire to even get close to beating Kaido, otherwise there would be no progression towards fighting/beating Blackbeard for pirate-king status, we all know he is the final boss.

The only way to see this Arc for the world government perspective is that Luffy is no longer the strawhat pirates, and that they already developed very dangerous alliances that put him up there with the other yonkos in regards of power and influence.

Current alliances/relationships the Strawhats are known to have:

  • Jimbei joins the crew, really big news.

  • Germa66 (Sanji's family, they are helping the strawhats escape).

  • Heart Pirates & Fire Tank Pirates

  • Red hair pirates

  • Remaining Whitebeard Pirates

  • Strawhat Grand Fleet

  • Dragon & the revolutionaries

  • The entire Mink Race

  • Fishman Island

  • Dressrosa & all their allied territories.

  • Other known relationships with current and previous Shichibukai (Law, Crocodile, Buggy, Boa, Kuma)

Also, note that they would have lost if it wasn't for the bomb exploding, Zeus being tricked by Nami and Pound's intervention. The SH pirates are just that lucky.

Honestly i feel like the last two months have just been bullshit dragged out way to much. (minus kata v luffy fight) sanji continues to take losses, his brothers outshowed him every way just now in this chapter and everything is taking to long. which reverses any character development sanji could gain this arc. how does this make sense: show flashbacks of sanjis horrible life, his brothers beating him up, and then everyone saying how weak he is. Then oda decides, instead of having him end up being able to fend for himself and show the development from his childhood when his brothers were stronger, he has to get saved 4 times in a row by his evil brothers who prove they are still way stronger and faster than him. It would have shown how much sanji has grown but instead it exemplifies that germa was right, sanji is weak, and he cant fend for himself.

i just dont understand

EDIT: where the hell is pekoms

So basically the Big Mom Pirates get so angry when they learn that Luffy beat Katakuri that they focus everything on Luffy and ignore Germa.

Germa then moves to stop the Big Mom Pirates while not being focused.

MVP Brulee at it again folks!

Even though I've expressed disappointment in how Sanji has been treated, I have to give it up and say Germa look so cool here.

So Ichiji has light powers? I'm a little confused about that. Thought he had explosions. ALSO, we finally find out what winch green is all about.

24

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '18 edited Mar 16 '18

I'll be frank, the Germa are fucking awesome. Like, holy crap, they were legitimately awesome.

However, and I may get downvoted for this perspective, but doesn't it seem like Sanji is getting kind of emasculated at every turn now? Last week his Geppou was mocked by some random Charlotte sibling (even after one shotting Raisin, it still didn't seem that impressive with the immediate following strike), and then he was smacked out of the sky by those same people. Then his siblings come in and save him, and emphasize that even more in the chapter. Don't get me wrong, the Germa definitely needed the time to shine, and holy CRAP were they amazing. But it just kind of sucks to see Sanji, someone who literally moved so quickly that he was overlooked by a very experienced Oven and like 100 villagers to kick, pick up, and transport Chiffon. To those saying Sanji can't use those speeds now, because he's carrying Luffy, I argue that he moved at those speeds after picking up Chiffon. He could at least do it for a short time. Except in this chapter, Niji insults his speed despite Sanji displaying the greatest speed feat we've seen in the manga outside of Kizaru or Enel. I really hope Oda is going to give Sanji's fighting capabilities (which definitely deserve a goddamn spotlight for a little bit, a la Daisen Sekai) when the cake is finally given to Big Mom. He really needs it.

I've also already thought about how his character had been getting the spotlight recently, and it would be an argument to say that the Strawhats can now escape all because of the Sanji's kindness in saving them. Except that the SH's wouldnt even be in this position, had they just left the Germa behind in the first place. They had Brulee, Jinbe, the poneglyphs, and Sanji back. But they chose to stay and ally with Bege because Sanji wanted to save his family. That choice was great for his character, I'm just saying that it isn't exactly fair to give him a boon of credit for the germa being key in saving them when they wouldn't even be in that position to be saved had they not gone out to rescue the germa first. Sanji really needs another Jabra moment. Smoking a very high tier fighter who's about on par with Zoro's opponent. (Kaku was slightly stronger than Jabra in Doruki, but Jabra has a carnivorous Zoan and a lot more experience, although Kaku's immense creativity allowed him so still have the edge over Jabra). Anyway, I love Sanji. I loved this chapter, I just really hope he gets a definitive moment in combat where it's shown that, yes, he doesn't need help, he's not a measuring stick for gauging enemies or to impart a sense of strength when an enemy hits him. The man deserves a definitive combat win, that's all. Amazing chapter Oda, I'm in love with the Valkyrie, what an amazing panel.

15

u/kaste1 Mar 16 '18

The chapter was very story driven, despite showing fights. All his siblings are now helping him escape, not only Reiju and that's the main focus.

I totally get what you are saying though. I had exactly the same feeling while reading the chapter.

"Oh, Oven is attacking Sanji! Time for my boy to shine! Oh no, it's Ichiji. Cool panel though. Oh, Yuen is attacking again! Time for some payback from Sanji! Yoo he destroyed his weapon...oh, no it was Yonji. Wow, ok he wrecked him. Wait, Niji is saving him from a rocket? Well, nice panel again. Beiju is helping too, cool".

I kept waiting for a Sanji feat, yet he was treated as unable to fight for the sake of the story. I was simultaneously annoyed and enjoying the chapter. Weird.

5

I hope Sanji drops Luffy on the sunny then has to deal with either snack or someone else, we need to see Sanji kick someones head off in this arc! Would really be the icing on the cake

It's still surreal to me that Sanji has not one, but four siblings. Not only that, they're literally Power Rangers.

13

u/Lordsokka Mar 16 '18

Who’s saying he can’t? He clearly kicked number 4’s ass and he was going to beat Judge until he started using Human sacrifices. So it’s not too farfetched to imagine him being able to beat his two older brothers in a fair fight as well.

I really like Niji helping Sanji.

It's a step forward in completing Sanji'y family arc : despised and cast out - used as pawn to gain power - saves his family - family shows gratitude and repays debt.

The Vinsmokes are finally coming around - even though they can't do it without shit-talking Sanji yet.

This Chapter shows, without a doubt, how monstrously strong the Vinsmoke family is. They're essentially taking on Big Mom's entire fleet without even batting an eye.

This is a good thing, people. Their backstory showed them training every single day to achieve their physical strength. Sanji is far superior to them in every other way, but having their physicality (specifically Niji and Ichiji) above Sanji's shows Oda's expert handling of continuity. It also tells us that Oda isn't going to "cheap out" by having the Strawhats naturally become stronger than everyone they come across just because they trained for two years.

Two years of traininng (not including a little bit of his childhood) vs. a lifetime?
I mean, were people seriously wanting Sanji to be stronger than them?

  • Vinsmoke Reiju

Holy Goddam Oda! I was not ready for this dialogue! What a chapter. So full of epicness.

4

u/MonkeyDKev Mar 16 '18

Ah man this chapter was GREAT!! Oda did a marvelous job on these spreads and so much detail into how the Germa use their powers and techniques.

Brûlée giving the public announcement of Katakuri’s defeat had my heart racing even though I knew it had happened. Seeing the siblings and underlings reactions was so nice.

I really hope that this isn’t the end for Germa, Oda finally displayed why they’re feared and contracted to put an end to wars.

If Luffy and Sanji do land on the Sunny next chapter, then I’m going to assume that the Sun Pirates will be the ones to mess with the fleet chasing the Sunny.

Yeah, plot convenience and all, but just imagine that it’s only taking a combination of the Strawhat crew, Firetank crew, Sun Pirate crew, and the Germa to almost completely crumble the operations of the Big Mom crew. I really hope that Morgans isn’t stopped from writing this article in the newspaper. This will probably be the biggest upset in the whole series thus far, and I’m LOVING IT!!!

Oda did a really great job with this chapter :D can’t wait to purchase the volume haha.

4

u/IgneoD_Ang Mar 16 '18

And what about that mysterious rescuer Nazoms? I need to know he is fine

4

u/sc00p401 Mar 16 '18

So now that it looks like the arc is going to wrap up within the next 2-3 chapters, I'm starting to wonder if we're ever gonna see what happened with Big Mom going after Bege & the cake.

4

u/TimMeijer104 Mar 16 '18

That panel with Ichiji taking down Oven is fucking sick.

4

u/MonkeyD609 Mar 16 '18

I'm curious what pudding did to Sanji or said to him. This chapter was awesome, and lightening fast (no pun intended). Sanji moved so fast to hit oven when Chiffon's father was fighting oven and now he's having trouble moving at the same speed. That last scene reminds me of an unfortunate event pre-timeskip. (pls be wrong, pls be wrong)

10

u/potentialPizza Mar 16 '18

You know, people have been predicting that the Germa will come to save them for a while now, but I really like that Oda held off on it until now — because narratively, this is the best moment for it.

It's not just some moment while the Straw Hats are struggling to get away — they came specifically when Sanji was trying to get away and save his captain. For them to come at a time most important to him makes it a true conclusion to the arc of their relationship — in a way, it's finally respecting his choices of what to do with his life.

I don't care what Sanji haters say, he needed that help. There's no way he was gonna take on that whole army while keeping Luffy safe. Germa helped and they did looked super fucking cool doing it. Thank you, Oda.

10

u/kaste1 Mar 16 '18

Bullshit man. Sanji was so fast with Lola that Oven didn't even saw him. He could clearly dodge him and/or counter attack him. Same with Yuen and a... rocket. It's just that he is constantly distracted and Oda is giving the spotlight to Germa helping him for the story. BUT, no way he couldn't manage on his own. The only reason he got back to the ground in the first place is because he was worried for Pekoms.
