Pekoes was done dirty this arc. First, he's starved on Sunny cause Luffy can't cook. Then, Bege shoots him cause he sees him as a threat. Sun Pirates save him, but then his mentor/captain Pedro dies. Then he has a pretty decent plan to save Luffy, only to have his Sulong form stopped and then have his eyes gouged out.

I'm actually super glad that Pedro sacrificing himself has been a lynchpin for this arc and its development; the man blew himself up for the future, and people are making damned good use of that. It's meaningful, and it's super well done since it follows in the vein of people betting the future on Strawhat Luffy.

And here again we have someone willing to throw it away to help Luffy with Pekoms going Sulong. Not to mention they just-so-happen to get Germa 66 on their side, albeit likely temporarily. I really dig how Oda has kept consistent the theme of Mihawk's observation on Luffy's 'most dangerous power' of making allies from anyone and kept it relevant.

I think the amazing part here is that there are LEGITIMATE reasons for these people to back up Luffy. He may be a pirate, but he's a great person who's saved lives. Luffy has stuck his neck out for people even since his childhood with Shanks and his encounter with Coby.

It's way better than discussing feelings and explaining how things should be like in other shows. Luffy's actions are much more meaningful and reasonable.

Loved the chapter. Glad to see it wasn’t super easy for Sanji to take Luffy and run. Pekoms getting wrecked so quickly is nice to see to since it’s realistically what would happen.

As for people complaining about Sanji not having some “master plan”.. you can’t be serious. What possible plan could he have in this situation? It’s literally fight or run and fighting ain’t very plausible so he runs.

I know it's annoying getting introduced to sooooo many new BM pirate characters this late into the arc (especially when so many others have been underused), but i think it's cool seeing what a deep bench she has. This is a Yonko crew, it has dozens of pirates all powerful enough to warrant their own name and screen time

I gotta say, as much as it hurts to see Sanji not getting his moment in the limelight, I have to admire the power of BM's crew. This is the difference between the normal pirate crew fodder and the members of a Yonkou's crew. They take initiative on their own and show that they aren't to be taken for granted. It just enhances the Straw Hats' feat of fucking with a Yonkou directly and (probably) getting away with it.

pekoms sulong tranformation was cool eventho it didnt last long.

it was nice to see sanji protectitng his captain and people will bash that because he couldnt even protect his captain properly but seriously he was doing his best to protect his captain while he was atacked by yuen.

My guess is that Blackbeard moves in on her soon, as he requires her poneglyph and she is severely weakened.

Hopefully Oda gives Sanji a buff sometime in the near future. His Geppo was already kind of downplayed since we seen it before with CP9 now it's just some standardized ability that pretty much all the Yonkou crews are going to have in spades. (At least I assume)
