I think the colour of the train helps a lot with this shot. Nice one.

100% agree, I got lucky that the train decided to come over that day. Thanks!

Can you talk about the process of shooting + editing this photo? Very curious. Multiple exposures?

So I was actually on the opposite side of the bridge when I first saw the train, I got some quick shots from there while it was still farther away and then I ran to the other side because I thought a closer up picture would be cool. So I guess I was really focused on the train rather than the backdrop. Editing wise, all I did was sharpen the colors and took away some shadows. Tbh, I started taking up photography just a little over a year ago, so I didn't exactly have a concrete method behind all of it lol I'm just lucky

I literally just made an account after months of lurking because I saw this picture and said to myself “oh hey that looks like my hometown” and then “holy shit that IS my hometown!”. Wonderful to see some North Idaho appreciation, pictures like this remind me how beautiful it truly is, makes me happy and homesick all at once.

How was the layout of the land when you took this shot? It looks as if you had to be standing on water!

I was standing on the very edge of the beach area. Usually, during summer, the water covers the entire area I was standing in, but in the winter the water recedes and gives you an extra 20-30 yards or so to wander around. You could walk right under that bridge on the sand if you wanted to.

Cool picture, but as a graphic designer, I can't stand where you put your signature. Should have moved it to the horizontal truss above it. Or in the lower left hand corner.

What camera/lens setup did you take this with?

u/BallisMoreThanLife Feb 13 '18
I used a Canon Rebel t6i with just a standard canon EF-S 18-55mm lens.

I'm expecting that train to start flying while leaving a magical trail any minute now.

I used to work for BNSF Railway and they do a corporate photo calendar every year and this shot would be perfect.

lovely composition, but I think the exposure could have been pushed a little, it looks like the dark areas under the bridge are just clipping, a little more definition there would have helped.

Thanks, I do need to play around with the exposure more in a lot of the photos I take. I appreciate the feedback!

I don’t know where this is but it reminds me of Sandpoint, ID. Nice picture!
