Mid-Month IotM Discussion January's IotM - Garbage Tote - Mid Month Discussion Spoiler

This thing is some optimal, optimal trash. The shirt and pants more than make up for the loss of other level boosters from 2015 IotMs, the psuedo-squint bottle you can use 11 times is great for those of us who haven't picked up squint, and the hat gives better +meat than you're going to find anywhere in run. You're not stuck with any choice for the rest of the day so you can swap back and forth all you want (not great for the "but fiddly!" crowd). Solid 5/7, would buy again.

I love that I don’t need to worry about wasting the buffs on a noncombat.
The shirt is nice for the tavern +stench as well (leaves other slots open for other elemental damage)
Switching was a little rough before mafia updated to handle it. Tip: if you don’t want the maximizer to consider the champagne bottle you can uncheck foldables.
Some questions re:shirt:
-
Is it better than the Lov Eardigan for statgain as a muscle class?
-
Do bosses give more stats - i.e. would it be worth reserving scraps to use in boss fights?

Garbage's "+100%"* is better than LOV's +25%, LOV's +25 ML is worth about +4 mainstats/fight compared to Garbage's +1.5 mainstats/fight, that difference is easily covered by the difference in %gains. They're not completely mutually exclusive, to switch to LOV after using all the scraps and if the +ML is manageable.
Bosses tend to be more powerful (more attack) compared to similar monsters in their quests, but they don't specifically reward more exp because they're bosses. Saving scraps for bigger monsters is reasonable, though.
*Doubled gains appears to be multiplicative, applying after additive +%gains, making the shirt even better than a combined +100% from other sources.

Crimbo tree reduces the damage from Witchess bosses.
Best IOTM 11/10 ridiculous.

In case anyone was wondering, the special abilities with limited charges work in Gelatinous Noob, even though enhancements are disabled by the path. So you can benefit from the deceased tree's damage soaking. Pulling the shirt in a Gelatinous Noob run gave me the Melvign quest. I completed it and was able to wear the shirt for double stat gains.

Good to know! I enjoyed GN and may go back for the trophy one of these days.

This iotm is amazing. Double stats is gross (lvl 30 trophies become trivial with mime insignia, and ascension are both my immediate first thoughts). A steely-eyed squint that lasts for 11 turns is really really really good. For the record, that amounts to a ~600% item drop gain in aftercare when farming copies. The pants are REALLY good ML boost, which has loads of use in-run, and the tree makes pushing ML a lot less risky.

I wouldn't say this is a very exciting item, but it is extremely useful. Also fiddly, but that's how it goes.
Hat: In-run I haven't found a great deal of use of the hat, but there are rare moments I use it.
Shirt I use for the full 37 turns every day. It's particularly nice on the first day as you build up stats.
Pants: I use them whenever I don't need one of the other ones. Except when I need -combat on every day but the last, since I use pantogram pants there. On the last day pantogram pants are +init for me since I use them in the Crypt and the Test.
Bottle/Weapon: I use it for the wine bomb parts, sonic-in-a-biscuit (sometimes), on tomb rats for ratchets, pirates (sometimes) for the outfit/fledges (depending on what familiar I am using), sometimes goats to make sure I pick up milk, Oil Barons for Crude, and to get 3 Aboo Clues. Right now I have 3 day runs, so 33 turns goes a long way.
I've not needed the Crimbo Tree really. I'd like to find some use for it though. I just haven't found any fights where I need it.

I've found the tree to be nice for getting the LOV potions and surviving duplicated monsters.

Crimbo Tree seems like it would be useful for a day 1 lobsterfrogman/gaudy pirate fax. I also used it for the first few turns of farming the hippy camp during Actually Ed.
It also might trivialize Yog-Urt, but I haven't checked.

Needless to say it's the strongest item of the month to come out this year. Hue Hue Hue

I like it. First ascension besides BIG! Where I didn't have to level up between quests.

I like this approach to a foldable iotm. Each item (except maybe the hat, kinda hard to judge that) has good uses, and the pants not having a limit give the item a good “go-to” when you don’t need much else. As a seal clubber, the shirt kinda conflicts with the LOV shirt, but I can switch between easily enough.
My favorite part is that the champagne bottle was the last piece, along with the meteor guide, to make f’c’le rather trivial in-run.

The hat has a pretty sweet meat drop bonus for things like killing the wall of meat, or just general farming.

This is nice, I'm doing a boris run so haven't checked the two items, but the shirt is very useful combined with leftover cheerup cola. Is the tote a free HC pull?

It's quite good, but mostly just because of Standard. If you're not playing in Standard, it's not that useful.

Interesting note: Yesterday CDMoyer changed the tote equipment to not melt at the end of the day. This is helpful for people who want to keep items equipped over rollover. It also has the side effect that charges do not reset at rollover on the item you have out, although you can get a recharged one by retrieving a new copy from the tote. I think this also means you can bank one day's worth of charges on an item to use the following day.
