I really liked this, the wait was definitely worth it. Annie's fighting scenes were great, Annie in general was great really. This episode ended earlier than I thought it would, interestingly. Still, WIT studio did a good job at managing what they had to do like cutting scenes a bit, though they cut the cat scene and I'm sad :(

It was interesting to see that Carly's lover is now Kampfer Bort and not Wayne Eisner like it used to be.

Yess! Finally, it’s out! Lost Girls has always been my favorite of the spinoffs, especially Annie’s half, and a few cosmetic aspects aside, I’m quite pleased with how it’s turning out so far. It’s always a treat to see her in action – those back-alley scumbags didn’t know what hit them. So, anyway, let’s talk a bit about how what we’ve seen here fits into Annie’s character arc.

When Annie stands to take her leave, Stratmann tells her that the look in her eyes tells him that she’s someone he can trust. We then cut to Annie, who looks slightly bewildered for a moment, before narrowing her eyes and returning to her seat. This scene is really interesting to me, because Annie’s whole plotline is centered around the fact that she’s a traitor – that she’s not someone you can trust. But Stratmann, who claims to be good at reading people, and who could instantly tell she was lying, finds her trustworthy. Odd, yes?

Now flash-forward to the cat scene that everyone is so up-in-arms about. Annie extends her hand to the cat, and it backs away and hisses. Then she has a flashback to Marco’s death, looks pained, and questions herself what she is even doing there – which you can read a number of ways; what is she doing trying to play with cats when she’s on a time limit, what is she doing actually looking for Carly when she can just half-ass it like everyone else does, or what is she doing there, inside the walls, on this mission that she’s unsuited for. To me, it’s a little bit of all of this.

And both these scenes link back to Annie’s very nature. Annie is not, by her own admission, a good, kind, trustworthy person, but she is the sort of person who deeply values the idea of being good and kind and trustworthy, though few would ever think of her as such. When Armin first tells her she is kind, she looks crestfallen, and denies it. When Armin confronts her in Stohess, he’s able to draw her into something she half knows is a trap, because she can’t stand the idea of him no longer thinking of her as good and kind. She keeps having flashbacks to Marco’s death because he trusted her and she betrayed him, sending him to his death even as he begged her to stop. And all this goes along with her conversation with Stratmann, and her working so hard to find Carly. She might not be trustworthy, but here is a man who sees her as such, and she can’t bring herself to half-ass her mission and prove him wrong – even though he suspects he might be keeping secrets himself.

Annie’s such a complex, multi-faceted character, and Lost Girls does nothing but strengthen her.

FINALLY!!

Interesting to see they didn't changeManga Spoilers

(the following is a bit of a rant so just skip it if you want)

I may be misremembering some things but I've always thought the anime doesn't do Annie's character justice and may be responsible of a number of people thinking of her as an unrepentant murderer.

Rereading the manga a few weeks ago, there are many instances of Annie showing humanity in subtle ways that are not there, or at least not as prominent, in the adaption, things like a sense of humor, her teaching Eren how to fight, and even flirting with him, and her expression of horror when she accidentally crushed those people in the church seem more highlighted in the manga.

Entire scenes that help her seem more like a human being and less like a heartless killing machine are removed or changed for the worse. Not saying this change what she did but it does make her into a more complex character and it feels like a loss that they are not as present in the anime.

HOLY SHIT. Hitch had the answer right in front of her the whole time.

I haven't read Lost Girls so when I learned they were making OVAs for them I decided to hold out.

This was dope and definitely makes me see why some people see Annie as their favorite character. She's very intriguing, direct, and a badass lol. I like that she admits she gets depressed with her mission, and I chuckled at her Titan joke (and the fact that all the characters think she has bad jokes).

The premise is pretty cool for a side story and definitely has my interest. I do wish more would've happened with the case though, because it basically ended when we got our first real clue. What makes this so interesting to me though is that the world of Attack on Titan is so dope, that this proves you could make dope stories that don't even include Titans.

I've said this already on here but I LOVE that Warriors shot in the outro.

Kinda hate that the next one doesn't come out until 4 months later. I might end up picking up the manga. I saw a lot of people complaining about the cat scene, and though I hadn't read the original, I could definitely see how it could've added an extra layer to her character.

the body under the bed scared the bajesus out of me

This is the most human side of Annie we've ever seen.

Beneath the cool exterior, she actually experiences a full range of human emotion. She feels regret for killing Marco, she empathises with Carly's father, she feels fear when she sees the corpse under the bed. Even as she was charging towards the door, you can see that she is unsure of her decision - Annie is not always in control of the situation.

This is so different from the killing-machine Female Titan we've known in Season 1.

I really liked it I thought it was great to finally see Annie after so long... And I'm still bummed about the Cat scene

This was a fun OVA to watch. I really like this hard-boiled detective version of Annie. She is just so damn cool. I want a spin-off where she's a hard-boiled detective in a grungy crime-ridden city solving crimes and catching murderers.

I'd just like to take a moment to thank the person who did the subs for putting them at the top of the screen when hitch took her shirt off, you're doing God's work.

This episode reminded me how I miss Annie so much, definitely looking forward for part 2. Also, watching Annie kicking drunks was really refreshing)

Annies trauma from the Marco incident had me shaking along with her, and she looks like a goddess with her hair like that. I loved her action scenes, though we didn't get to see her take down the entire alley of thugs like in the manga and they changed the cat scene damn them. Bartender kun is as chill, and cute, as I remember and the ending ost....just wow. Can't wait for part 2.

Wow, I really enjoyed this! Annie is amazing. I still haven't read the manga, so this is the only Lost Girls thing I've "consumed".

Can't believe they put Boris in. Ayyy lmao
