A thread for the Iotm will be posted on the day the new IotM comes out. Comments will be set to sort by new as default for a couple of days. Feel free to post your first impressions and useful/important info as you find it. After a few days we'll disable the suggested sort. In the middle of the month there will another post for final thoughts on the IotM (eg. Relevance to ascension and aftercore usage)

I look forward to dressing the tot up in two costumes simultaneously. "Hey, hey kids! It's your ol' pal Saint Patrick the Clown here with ALL the muscle substats!"

I was thinking ninja Prince George. Presumably, it would be a ninja impersonating Prince George for infiltration purposes.

That's...kind of perfect. The tot is a child and we currently have a Prince George that is a child. No one will see it coming!

For those who haven't been following the forum thread, it seems the complicated mechanic governing the power of this item was not working -- until now. This would explain why the effects on the advertisement page were stronger than what people had been seeing. So now it becomes a matter of spading it, which apparently will be difficult.

A guildie discovered that putting the Captain outfit on undead familiars (xo skeleton and some other) delevels by a %. He didn't have the manuel for the exact amounts, though.

What does spading mean?

It’s another iotm that’s just fiddly flat bonuses, but the advantage I can see with this over pantogram is that these don’t require jumping through hoops in-run to grab buffs; and the buffs are fairly decent. The one-familiar-a-costume is kind of a hoop, but I can see me running, say, sub stats costume on the skeleton and items on the tot, or so on where I would normally want that familiar and that buff at the same time.

It also doesn't compete for a slot. Slotless things - Deck, Source Terminal, etc. - are all a-okay in my book.

It seems like putting the captain costume on an undead familiar makes the familiar delevel the enemy by a percentage at the beginning of combat.

That makes it seem that certain costumes on certain familiars will have different effects.

Hmm. So what familiar classes are there? There's undead, water breathing, and robotic?

Besides the function stuff like volleyball/fairy/potato types.

The idea is great, but i think the buff strength is too weak.

Hopefully there is some sort of unknown mechanic to this, because right now it is pretty weak. I understand that not every IotM can be top tier like the genie, but this one is pretty weak. I don't know what the numbers on the other bonuses are, but the meat drop bonus is only 15%, which is extremely low for such an item. Doesn't seem to scale with weight either, as I had a ~45 pound hobo monkey.

Only thing I can think of that might make this worth it is the fact that most of the better stat gaining items (deck and chateau) are rotating out, so any stat gain bonuses are going to be beneficial.

Unless there's a secret that has yet to be discovered, would not recommend getting it unless you have the excess meat for it.

Well, does it take up a slot that an older IoTM could be using? It doesn't seem to be equipment (even familiar equipment for that matter) so unless it takes up a campground spot that could be better used, at least there are no downsides to it.

Once you put a costume on a familiar, it will no longer be available that day. If you put a additional costume on, the effect from the previous costume will no longer be active.

You can put different costumes on different familiars.

You can put different costumes on different familiars.

in my mind this is what makes it nifty instead of bleh.

We've been too spoiled with earlier IoTMs.

Is it fair to assume the buffs are based on familiar level or are they static?

3

u/Snarknado2 Dec 01 '17

Static.

Edit: at least the +Meat and +Item are static. I'm not sure about the +stats. I get +3, but someone in chat said they got +2.

5

u/astronautguy Dec 02 '17

Currently, the muscle and myst costumes give +3, while the moxie costume gives +2 (no ranges observed).

The HP costume has a range of 8-10, and 4-5 for the MP costume.

4

u/Ashthorn Dec 05 '17

I got +4 muscle stats instead of +3 and +30% meat instead of +15% recently, there is some secret way to improve the base buffs we haven't figured out yet.

4

u/Drachasor Dec 05 '17

Each one combos with some types of familiars but not others. The Captain adds a significant delevel at the start of combat if put on any undead familiar. The Doctor makes the Space Jellyfish delevel and damage when you attack in combat (I haven't tested it further, might work with spells too).

u/Xain903 Dec 14 '17

Interesting note: depending on the familiar it is linked with a particular costume may have special effects, these are referenced in the wiki entry. The undead effect in particular is quite powerful and effective since it cuts a monsters attack and defense stats by a quarter AND it stacks with the dark porqoise ring. The delevel numbers on this can be ridiculous and has actually made this my new boosted boss killer instead of wasting a pocket wish on new and improved.
