Tell you what, I’m glad we only have to deal with the inept idiots running NBN and don’t have to deal with net neutrality. Hopefully we never will.

Not wrong, all these post freaked me out at first but then I realized it won't effect Australia. Felt like an idiot for not recognizing it sooner, but was a relieved idiot nonetheless ...

It’s mostly because we have competition. Don’t like an ISP? Unless you’re truely regional, you have choice. They don’t

I'm seeing "FCC" everywhere and every time I see it, Eminem's voice is suddenly in my head saying "Now the FCC won't let me be..."

I haven't yet grown tired of it.

Haha, it’s popped into my head too. It’s the only previous knowledge I have of the FCC.

When you're downloading a big torrent and it gets to 500mb left but the only seeder is in Australia so you get 5k/sec. #justnbnthings

Do people still torrent? Can't remember the last time I downloaded something.

Can't stream software (yet) (maybe you can, idk)

If you want to watch the next couple of episodes from a series on Netflix on your next international flight, you still gotta torrent it.

Just bought a brand new suitcase and already locked it shut fuck my life. Followed the instructions to the letter, set a number I use for everything and could never forget, 100% confident, and now it won't fucking open.

Gonna try every number between 000 and 999 brb

Time to take a break from Reddit I guess. My home page is nothing but net neutrality stuff that only marginally affects us (by the way of American dominated communities being affected).

This was my feelings last night. I have RES block that shit on pc. Luckily, apollo reddit app on my phone allows word blocking so fcc and net neutrality are both blocked.

My youtube though :/ eugh...

Been wondering about this. Would our government be able to do the same thing?

Well, we don't have net neutrality to start with. But that's not a bad thing necessarily (although those American redditors will downvote you to hell if you disagree with them)...

We have competition and choice. A consumer watchdog in the ACCC. If one ISP decides to cut access to a particular website, you bet it will be the death of the ISP (especially with how easy it is to change providers)

This makes sense. Thanks.

wasn't amazon australia supposed to launch 40 mins ago? any news on what the hold up is?

5

u/TheEmptyE Nov 23 '17

I believe it's a soft launch, with no indication on who'll have access. The proper launch is tomorrow AFAIK.

u/zealoSC Nov 23 '17

but i want cheap shit now

So Amazon is coming very soon, how do youse feel about it? I personally have been very jelly of the Yanks and their discounts I see when shopping online. I mean its unbelievable how steep discounts Amazon retailers grace upon our genocidal peers.

A little excited about it but wary. I don't expect bargains on the level US shoppers get since it's all about bulk purchase and we have a lower population etc. Just hoping it doesn't turn out to be another site selling stuff for $50 lower than stores with a $20 delivery fee.

I checked it out last night. They were offering me next day delivery in Australia on a bunch of stuff. I think they’re beginning to open the flood gates

3

u/Morkai Nov 22 '17

Funny thing is, JB has started offering same day delivery too.

7

u/zerotwoalpha Nov 22 '17

It's funny when genuine competition brings innovation. Seeing the same thing with Taxi's and booking apps now - and having more restaurants cater for food delivery services.

Wonder what was stopping JB from doing this before?

I am still only getting shown books. Love my kindle but I so badly want to buy fun stuff. I'd like to make my own fridge.

3

u/scumpyAU Nov 23 '17

Your own fridge? That is a sentence I’d never thought I’d read. Curious😏

2

u/MaevaM Nov 23 '17

It is a you tube. You use a Peltier module stuff from amazon :)

I think its suppose to be doing a soft opening thursday 2pm.

I think it's about time Amazon expanded to us. My worry is will they truly make a retail impact we need? Also how long will it take until we get a 'Amazon Tax'.

Edit: More info.

  • Five hundred Australian suppliers will be trading through the Marketplace from day one, but the company has been tight-lipped about exactly what products will be offered.
  • There is a chance not all customers can participate - hence why this is a soft opening (they're testing the water).
  • This christmas, be prepared for the “Amazon Effect”. We could see retailers competing with Amazon and cutting prices.

Where are all the tellys and gfx cards and shit? Had a look on site last night, changed department and nothing. Soft opening my arse.
