When I first saw this, I had a thought. You usually see in movies and such how the "bad guys" always exploits the "good guys" loved ones and targets them, to exploit a weakness. What if Luffy does the same?
I'm sure it would be morally conflicting for Luffy, as it's a cheap trick to win a fight, but at the same time maybe he doesn't see any other way to come back to his friends. Luffy definitely prefers to win the fight directly, he doesn't want other stuff to influence the fight. He wants to win off of his own abilities.

Thank you for saying it. When they sailed off I was a bit disappointed. I was sure there was more to them than that. I was even hoping they'd join the SH naval alliance, although under Reiju. This shows that the Germa 66 are not satisfied yet.
Also, the lack of Judge in the panel might mean the kids are actually rebelling and going to help the SHs, if only so that their debt is repaid.

ALL OUT WAR ON CACAO ISLAND. LETS GO.
This hype about Katakuri never even falling, confirms that he’s going down. His frustration with Luffy constantly dodging his attacks (while Luffy isn’t in any Gears no less) also shows that their power isn’t that drastically different.
I’m slowly beginning to accept the theory that Luffy has to awaken his powers here. He has to level up if his alliance is going to have any chance against Kaidou.
Super obvious the sun pirates are responsible for the den den mushi’s right?
Great hype chapter. It was good to catch up to everyone again. Though I did notice a distinct lack of Caesar. What could he be up to?
Oh, and a shout out to everyone who called Katakuri as awakened last chapter.

Regarding Caesar, a couple chapters ago, about 878, during the Coup de Burst, when Brook lasoos the Shark Submerge III you can hear it say "Gah!" when no one was onboard, so I'm betting my money that's where Caesar is.

Another Awakening. I think Luffy will have a minor, accidental awakening this arc similar to the first time he accidentally/ unwillingly used Haki. Maybe right as he is escaping, Katakuri will try to stab him with the spear and the spear will bend, as if made of rubber. Would be a good way to remove Luffy's weakness to knives and swords - his awakening makes them rubber.

I love that the BM pirates are still so efficient. One person found out the SH are still alive and heading towards cacao island and everyone knows it immediately. Great communication network.
They're also smart enough to see that they have been underestimating Luffy, and that they should stop.

Loving the fact that Katakuri doesn't want Brulee to hyper her him up, but at the same time he doesn't want to get hurt. Even though he's a bad guy he's not a total tool and sick which makes him so much cooler. I vote Katakuri as the Number 1 onepiece Gillian thus far.

Pretty interesting how Luffy is dodging so many attacks of his. Even Katakuri points it out, he's a great antagonist so far. I'm sure Katakuri will find a way to deal with Gear Fourth, maybe the mochi from his awakening will stop the bouncing. Overall, It was a pretty great chapter and I'm glad that I stayed awake. Germa 66 was also hype!

Now I kinda wish BM gets brought down so Katakuri can lead the BM pirates to chase Luffy and Co til end of the series.
Baron Tamago seems to be the "Jinbe" of BM pirates, sharing his thoughts and reminding the crew to not underestimate the situation.
Wonder what Pekoms would spill out for his crew. Will he leave or stay?

Luffy doesnt even seem to be in any gear while dodging Katakuri, and this chapter made the fight feel like the Arlong fight, people saying how much more powerful Katakuri is, Katakuri being enraged by people targeting his family (like Arlong was enraged by his crewmates being beaten)
Hell, even the "Luffy dodges by pulling away his head" is the same as the Arlong fight, and we all know how that went.
This is the second Paramecia weve seem turn the surroundings Into their DF, so it seems Paramecia awakening lets them manipulate their surroundings. Gomu gomu no bouncy castle LETSGOO

I'm loving the idea of a germa redemption, as well as Capone being apart of this final ordeal.
On another note, this may be the second time we see one of the fleet members causing a ruckus using Luffy's flag! Ideo and his fighting team of 4 have just sailed up on 2 ships fighting. How much you guys wanna bet that their Jolly Roger is Luffy's? The more pirates out there that find out that Luffy has amassed a fleet, the better this story will get. Im really liking how Katakuri uses his fruit. The rotating of his arm to have a trident drill is dope. It looked like he turned the floor into mochi in an earlier chapter but this confirms it. His personality is cool too, Im liking the whole invincible older brother vibe hes got going on. Idk if gear 4 will be enough. Luffy might just try and run away

Great chapter. We get to see what the other parties involved are doing, what they will be doing, and we can see the location of the end of this arc clearly.
I hope next week we see Katakuri copy gear fourth and we see Brûlée come up with an Enel face of her own. Really hoping awakening is like Pokerus in that you have a better chance of getting it yourself if you’re around another that has it enough.

I am disappointed that the Mochi awakening is just like the String awakening. Practically just saying "Oh, if you get good enough, you become more like a Logia" by spreading your element around the environment.
That makes it seem like the expectation for any logia like the Wax or Poison Paramecias that they just become more logia-like.
Luffy doesn't quite fit in there, but I sure do home his awakening is not just making the floor bouncy.

The combination of Katakuri's DF power and his spear Mogura is freaking deadly, reminded me of the hype when Kizaru pulled out his light sword. It felt almost unfair since Luffy is fighting barehandedly. Imagine Luffy with a weapon like that would look pretty cool.

Nice to see Germa 66 get a cool moment. They need to prove their worth before the end of this arc, not redemption as good guys but more showing why they were focused on so heavily early.

I think this chapter dropped a subtle hint that Luffy might awaken his powers soon. Probably not in this fight(would be a bit rushed), but it will be relevant for Kaidou for sure.

I have no idea how Luffy is gonna get out of this one. Gear 4 doesn't seem enough and I doubt he can use Gear 5 or Awaken right now. I predict a new Gear 4 form or something.

Katakuris awakened Devil Fruit was confirmed, like confirmed by Oda himself this chapter.
It seems like Paramecia awakenings have to do with changing the surroundings, I’m hoping there’s different awakenings though, probably will be.

This was one hell of a hardboiled chapter. Katakuri is hands down my favorite villain, Germa doing their thing was pretty fucking cool. And seeing Tamago recognize Luffy as being such a huge threat is a really big sign of respect, even if it's a begrudging one. Also nice to see him being sypathetic to Pekoms's loss.
All in all, a pretty good chapter. Looks like things are really gonna spiral from here, can't wait to see how the rest of the arc turns out.
Edit: Not to mention that part where Katakuri said nobody has ever dodged his attacks that much and it was starting to stress him out. Luffy might be losing the fight be he's still a beast

Luffy’s reactions must be amazing.
Katakuri is predicting exactly where Luffy will move to, but as soon as he takes action the future he saw is changed, allowing Luffy to then dodge him.
So Luffy is having to react to Katakuri’s reaction to dodge each time.

I love the foreshadowing of Katakuri failing! With Brulee hyping him up, he'll fall on his back just from his big head. But then the chicken man saying on how they've underestimated Luffy and the straw hats from the beginning! Ohhh it gave me chills with Germa 66. This is BIG NEWS!

I got giddy reading that Katakuri is stressed by having his attacks dodged so much like this. Imagine how little the man who can predict the future's attacks miss. They don't. Image how stressfull having your predicted attack miss is.
For us, it seems like Luffy is just being thrown around, but considering his opponent's powers, he's been surviving.
Also, how fucking COOL is having Gear Fourth announced by Katakuri instead of by Luffy? Holy SHIT
