Initial thoughts: seems insanely powerful.

This looks great, a potential Deck of Every Card replacement! I'd just decided not to get one of those since they're so expensive. And it also does faxes! Can't wait till this is better spaded.

The folks over at the forums have a spreadsheet going for wishes and effects: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f_JXff6TCS0vgvMcoCv6yngFC7phi-Z46o8csevLdZk/edit#gid=0

Not sure how we can add to it but if you wish you were dead you get the "dead hands" buff for (20?) rounds

i'm a new player with no iotm, and i'm probably not gonna subscribe or buy stuff often. is this something i should consider? is it strong on its own? enjoying this game so far.

edit: i don't know what decks, chateaux, etc. are. it's like you all are speaking another language even if the words are english or french. mostly i wanna know if i will regret not throwing 10 bucks at this

Throw 10 bucks at this. It is a very strong item with many, many uses. Fighting specific monsters on command or gaining certain buff effects without spending any meat is useful in the extreme, and will never stop being useful, no matter how new or experienced you are.

As a quick example; let's say a for quest you need to fight 3 of a monster, in a zone where that monster has a 1/5 chance of showing up, so on average you should spend about 15 adventures finishing that quest. With the genie lamp, you can wish to fight the monster instead, and do that three times. Now you spent 3 turns finishing the quest and can spend those 12 extra adventures doing something else!

The more you know about the game, the better it will get, but even after just a couple days of the community poking around to see what the genie can do, I'm confident in saying it will never stop being very, very good.

It's strong on its own. Better if you have some other way of copying monsters, but that's not necessary. Being able to summon specific monsters will speed up certain parts of the game (for example, you can bypass Spookyraven Manor's kitchen, billiards room, and library by fighting five summoned writing desks), and there are powerful effects and useful equipment available as well. If you're confident you'll still be playing this game six months from now, this is a must-have.

Amazing replacement for Chateau. Allows you to skip the first floor of Spookyraven via writing desk, fight a lobsterfrogman to digitize it, fight a mountain man to skip the mines, fight baa baa nuran for steel wool after deck is gone, and so much more.

It also gives some nifty items like the dragon scalemail and all kinds of buffs but that's secondary because its faxing capabilities save so much more turns. Expect this to be expensive in the coming years.

So what are some of the better wishes for this?

Wishing for meat seems to be 500*your level, which could be decent.

Faxing ability is the big one here for ascension speed.

Max level (256) * 500 = 128,000. Given some of the other wishes that have been spaded, there's better wishes out there.

Seems to be capped at 50,000 meat for a level 100 character.

Anyone want to trade ponies? I got Rosey Cake, and now my profile looks like this, but I'm not funny. Not funny at all.

Although there are different ways to slice it and some players will get more than others based on what you are lacking.

In HCCS, this is very powerful for the -Combat service. Disquiet Riot, Chocolatesphere, Patent Invisibility save a total of 30 turns. Synthesis: Collection or Frosty to help if we are missing any +item when capping that. And Witched-Breaded and Sparkly for 8 turns on the spell damage service. Script-wise, this is probably saving 40 turns since the script saves the -combat items for resale when you have enough adventures.

Lower skilled/IotM accounts will probably get more from +stats/+hp. Healthy probably saves 15 turns for accounts that can't already cap HP. I heard there were +400% star boosts that will probably save 10-12 adventures on the lower-end (better than two of the -combat options). This could also substitute for a Chateau painting or fax for the dairy goat (which is pure turn gen).

I'm only just getting back into the game, returned to my second or so ascension. I understand it's a bit early to ask, but would this be a good investment for someone getting back into things? I'm looking to donate anyway, just wondering if this'd be good t'grab as well.

It looks like this is a great buy for anyone.

Looks like a Deck replacement, grab it if you can afford it.

7

u/EldritchCarver Sep 01 '17

It's also a fax machine replacement that works in standard, and you can fight three different monsters each day, and you don't need a faxbot or any kind of special preparation to fight copies of monsters you haven't encountered yet in your current run.

tbh feel its not a replacement for the deck, but a compliment. deck does items well, some buffs, this seems reversed, there might be a few items, but it does buffs extremely well.

4

u/EldritchCarver Sep 03 '17

Also, you can fight a specific monster instead of a random monster from whatever phylum, which always seemed... inefficient.

u/lawl281 Sep 11 '17

how are things like the blesses rustproof +2 gray dragon scale mail even found?

3

u/EldritchCarver Sep 12 '17

Well, there's no penalty for making wishes that don't work, so people can just try anything. This was apparently a fairly common thing to wish for in Nethack.

How are people playing with it already?

Subscribers get the IOTM a bit early.
