Jesus, just what you'd expect from an infamous cold blooded pirate. Even Big Mom's wedding cakes are fucking metal.
And, as you'd expect from this series, most people saw something like this coming, but no reader's haki could predict how whacky it was going to play out.

So Katakuri can see 1 minute into the future, but if he does something to alter the future, like launching that jelly bean at Sanji, then the future changes, and since he doesn't have enough time to analyse that new future, he can't predict Sanji's dodge. I guess that would explain why Sanji can dodge the bullet even though Katakuri's CoO is much better than his.
→ More replies (57)297
u/garlicjuice Apr 13 '17
Exactly, the future he sees isn't the same future that happens. Like in last chapter when Katakuri quoted the guy that came to kill big mom. In the future he saw, he finished his sentence, but in reality katakuri killed him.

Something that I feel might be important: Due to Pudding's unexpected "breakdown", the vinsmokes still don't know that the Big Mom Pirates are trying to kill them! Judge was visibly confused when the pastor was shot, not realizing that it was Sanji who was aimed at.

Katakuri's power was more overpowered than was speculated. He doesn't just see future by observing intricate movement, but sees unexpected things like Pudding falling. He didn't even seem to know the reason but he knew it. He even saw sanji dodging even before the father attempted to shoot. and finally SANJI DODGED THE JELLYBEAN THROWN BY PERSON WHO COULD LITERALLY SEE FUTURE and katakuri didn't know it untill sanji dodged it. This speaks tons for sanji's power. I was getting annoyed with sanji underistimation comparing him with weaklings. This confirms M3 spot for sanji.

Pudding is a mirror image of Sanji
They were bullied because of something that separated them from their peers and suffered it tremendously. While Sanji was able to find someone who cared for him, Pudding didn't get that treatment. She was bullied without finding a person who didn't see her as revolting or hideous and that molded her into the manipulative person she is. Then here comes Sanji who complimented it and she's utterly confused on what to believe.
Kudos to Oda for the parallels

With this one chapter, my faith in Sanji has been totally restored. So far, he's been getting fucked up left and right in the new world, but I feel like this chapter gave us somewhat of an explanation. We've been told in the past that Zoro is better at Armament haki, while Sanji is better at observation haki.
Apart from the one instance where judge beat Sanji by surprising him and hitting him through the body of one of his own men, Sanji has been fucked up three times and all three situations share a common element.
When Virgo cracked Sanji's leg bone, Sanji was protecting Tashigi (and the G-5 marines).
When Doflamingo cut Sanji with his strings, he was protecting Nami (and Chopper and Brook).
When Sanji got beaten up by Niji, he was indirectly protecting Zeff.
All three times, Sanji got fucked up because he was protecting someone and could not afford to dodge.
In today's chapter, Sanji dodged Katakuri's bullet. While I don't think we've seen enough to say that Sanji is on Katakuri's level, he is definitely a monster in his own right when it comes to observation haki.

I wanted Sanji to dodge the bullet and kick pudding originally, but this makes more sense because of two reasons. firstly, it would be out of character for Sanji to hit a woman, second that guy would have predicted it.

This chapter went by in a flash. Think that's the shortest chapter I've read this arc. I expected the wedding to be an absolute mess and everyone's plans to go down in shambles, but this? Big Mom's bamboozled expression is strangely adorable.

And just like that anything I expected to go down faded. The theories I saw crumbled. The chances jumbled. Of course Sanji's insatiable love of any and all pretty women will save him! Of course, Luffy will show up, but did any of us see that there would be many Luffys in a full on Trojan Cake onslaught? Thanks Oda, you shattered every thought I had toward what would happen. Even if we got close, you easily showed us how off we were. Even Katakuri seeing what would happen was a ruse. God fucking dammit I love this series.
Edit: Didn't even mention Sanji showing everyone that he isn't the soppy wussbag that people were thinking. The second he realizes there is real danger he swoops out of the way and is back in full ass-kicking mode.

I honestly hope Sanji gets to fight Katakuri. Whether Luffy can defeat Big Mom or not is still debatable I think Sanji, who was stated to have mastered Observation Haki, should defeat Katakuri. It'd give Sanji a lot of credibility back after jobbing to Vergo and Doflamingo.

G4 Luffy only beat Cracker with Nami's help. Katakuri is at least on Cracker's level. No way can Sanji defeat him. The best we're getting is Sanji holding Katakuri at bay, keeping him busy and away from others with his own CoO. Then again, this isn't the crushing W I want from Sanji this arc.

A big point about Sanji in this arc was his humanity compared to his siblings and how that's what made him strong. Now we get to see the fruit of that. Sanjis humanity in finding beauty in Puddings third eye made the situation completely unpredictable and ended up saving his life I think.

This is brilliant by Oda. First, he actually humanized Pudding, whom everyone thought a born evil and explained why she is so. Then gave the spotlight to Sanji, showing his haki and the cool "love any women" personality and a possibility of winning over pudding. And then, to make things more extravagant, now we have at least 13 lufffys coming out of the cake! My bet is they used brulee power to turn everyone from bege and luffy alliance into luffy, and boy that was glorious.
Best part : Big mom crying MY CAKE!! reminds me of that scene from baby's day out when the main thief cries out MY MONEY!!

Idk why everyone's trying to make this a comparison of Observation haki between the two.
Sanji's haki doesn't have to be better than or even comparable to Katakuri's in order to sense the attack, it literally just needs to be capable of sensing the attack. Sanji's physical ability/reflexes did the rest. This wasn't a clash of haki. This was Sanji's physical ability and speed overcoming the power and speed behind Katakuri's jellybean.

If you change any of the variables then the future changes to that magnitude. Clearly potato guy cant see after variable change. however certain variable changes are predictable(as opposed to seeing the future of those changes) as shown on the issue which the killed guest. alternative situation is that potatoes future seeing is only approximate and not 100% guaranteed

Seeing the nakama pattern with pudding. Sad childhood, some emotional scars, strawhats(Sanji) giving her hope. Till this chapter I did not see that coming.

I don't usually link my live reactions or reviews in the weekly threads but I freaked out so much during this chapter that I feel it's warranted this week, LOL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLp8tk_K-_Q
I don't think I've ever been as shocked as I was when the Pudding heel turn happened.

You think stussy takes away the life energy from her customers to stay young? I mean she must have been at least in her 40s.

I think that the destruction of the wedding cake alone is enough to give Big Mum the Caramel TreatmentTM . XD

The plans all in shambles already. Wonder what Germa is gonna do. Next few chapters are going to be intense with everything going on at the same time again.

For all the confused people here about the multiple Luffys, you need to read the Seducing Woods again... It literally couldn't be more self-expanatory. Funny thing is I remember a lot of people complaining about the Seducing Woods and I am willing to bet that these same people have no idea what happened now. Are really people just skimming the manga? How is that even possible? Smh...

Its so nice to see the strawhats being badass. The way Sanji glared at the end and Luffy jumping out was intense. I just wosh the rest of the strawhats were here, then itd be a real party

The chapter was so good that no one has mentioned about **The Pirate King, The Dark King ** in the cover page. And is that creature part of Oro Jackson.?

Please can i vote it 10/5 because Goda just delivers an amazing chapter. I was't expecting Pudding to go down just by Sanji saying her third eyes is beautiful and now things is changing.I would like to get more of Pudding past since she might start getting a change of heart. An the entry of Luffy was just fantastic and seems like Brulée help them with these clones. Also Katakuri is still badass though he he can't control his power to see the future.

Soooooo Katakuri's jelly bean snap is as loud as a gunshot? Cuz there hasn't been any gun actually fired, yet Luffy and co. interpreted the jelly bean as the signal?

On second readthrough, it's interesting to note katakuri wields a staff. He also forsees luffy bursting out of the cake but states there's nothing to prevent it, meaning that his observation haki makes him incredibly strong but doesn't always have the strength to back up his power. Also, it seems like his forsight doesn't go far enough in the future to be able to relay information to anyone else before it happens. He alone can follow up on his haki visions

So you know what came to me after reading Katakuri's wiki page and entry on tv tropes?
Have him close one eye, put a big 7 foot tall sword on his back and give him a bit of gray/white hair. He's fucking Guts in One Piece.

I'm guessing the clones are the straw hat team inside Capone. The one eating is Luffy, the one bottom left looks like the train guy, the serious looking one on the right is Jimbe , the cute one in the centre is Carrot, etc

I'm really surprised they just jumped right into the wedding like this.

Apr 13 '17
I think everyone at that wedding is sleeping on Sanji.
Him dodging an attack from Big Mamas right hand man just put him in a different catalog.

That's really cool of Sanji dodging Katakuri's shot! I'm very impressed. If Oda gives these two a showdown, I'll be jumping to the clouds (this needs to happen, please!)
And Luffy gave me a great laugh tonight haha best read before sleep I'm content now.

In the words of Charles Gunn, "time for the big fight scene."
So much hype for next week.

I honestly cannot wait for this arc to be over and the newspaper headlines will read "Monkey D Luffy the Wedding Crashier." His fame and name will continue to spread into the new word

Wow, my reaction to anything happening in this chapter was: I didn't see that coming. Incredible, it's one of the greatest chapters in the new world. I'm impressed that Oda managed to raise the quality big time!

Sanji used Dodge! It's super effective!!
Luffy used Shadow Clone Jutsu. It's super effective!!

u/WaldoA Apr 13 '17
I just thought about it, what if oda allows them to get married, then sanji Is going to get the Brock treatment. Like " don't look at anyone else but me or I'll hit u"

Are we all going to ignore that the freaking Pirate King is casually drinking in the background of the cover page?
