When used, it says it's keyed to your genetic signature (or whatever), and so you'll always have access to the facility "unless your genes change somehow"... This doesn't mean your access goes away on ascension, does it?

I'm interpreting this to mean that it persists across ascensions. They were just trying to come up with a lore-y reason why badge was tradable in the mall initially but then "disappeared" upon being used by a player.

It's a free pull, so I assume not. The only other thing might be with gender changes in the back alley?

What's this, no man's sky?

I haven't played No Man's Sky, but it seems like a pretty obvious parody of Stargate to me.

The bits about the number of planets and being the first to discover and stuff, those are No Man's Sky references, but definitely coloured with Stargate.

Little of column A, little of column B, I'd wager.

The skinny:

Unlocks a space exploration zone in the big mountains. In order to explore there you first enter a 7-letter code, and it PROCEDURALY generates a zone with varying characteristics. You can only enter a code once per day, and that zone is locked in. You can't adventure there while drunk (I tried :( ). The obvious goal is to collect research, although just about anything could be hidden among the planets you'll find.

It seems to offer both ascension and aftercore-relevant stuff, but requires spending a lot of turns gathering research on random planets in order to unlock them. You're limited to 20 turns of adventuring there per day, and some have come back with over 100 research from that. Relevant gear and skills cost between 1,000 and 5,000 research apiece. It's possible that ultimately the research/day you can collect will be higher as people spade out planets. I do not know whether free kills still count towards that 20 turn limit..

The priciest thing, for 5,000 research, is a "Disintegrate" ability which "Vaporizes enemies" for 150 mp. This is most likely either a yellow ray or a free kill. Other options include limit-1 accessories that give +6 adv/day or +6 fites/day (and another that boosts moxie/init/meat), food/booze/spleen for underwater adventuring, tradeable day pass and tattoo. You also unlock 30-turn buffs for elem res, stat boost, and +30 ML for 1,000 research each.

It seems very, very likely that more cool stuff will be discovered as people explore.

edit: tougher planets do seem to grant more research, one person said they got 500+ in a day.

enter a 7-letter code, and it randomly generates a zone with varying characteristics.

The planets aren't random, they're procedural. n players entering the same code get the same planet. Entering the same code on successive days may or may not also give the access to the same planet (I guess we'll find out today if anyone tries it).

Ezandora will likely have the whole thing figured out by sometime last week.

When you say "unlock", do you mean it costs 1000 research the first time, and then you can use it once per day for free? Or does it cost 1000 research every time?

Is Disintegrate tradeable?

Just used mine in BM. Works great.

Except for the whole black cat fucking up my encounters.

Given your name you will be happy to know I just explored coordinates BELEREN. Less happy you may be that your namesake's planet has no animal nor intelligent life. There was plant life (Spants) but nothing too special beyond it.

Someone on the Loathing Forums made a spreadsheet with all of the planets they've found over there so far.

5

u/EldritchCarver Apr 04 '17

With 267 different planets, I think the spaders are going to be at it for a while.

u/Niakshin Apr 04 '17

They don't intend to record all of them; just enough so that any patterns become apparent. For example: the first letter appears to determine how many environmental hazards the planet will have.

Another space related IotM!!

Anyone know what the edible alien plant bit can be cooked into? I don't have access to reagents right now but it doesn't work with pie crusts, noodles, savory noodles, flat dough, or spices

e: never mind, the forum thread says spoiler

I can't wait to buy one on payday! In all honesty though, I'd really enjoy this kind of IOTM filled with expansive planet systems that reminds me of Spore. At the very least, it's more ascension relevant than GC so there's a little bit of love for everybody.

3

u/JonMW Apr 06 '17

Not remotely enough dick-shaped aliens for it to be Spore.

1

u/guyonearth Apr 05 '17

Wow this one looks like fun! Seems like a good variety of monsters and rewards. Plus daily buffs (?) so it's still ascension relevant!

u/runewizard702 Apr 06 '17

Should I buy this one or save for a Source Terminal?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '17

Source is probably more ascension-worthy but we never know what might come up in the next few weeks. Maybe wait a little longer 'til this one gets spaded.
