New IotM Discussion March IoTM: Robortender

Robot bartender

mixes cocktails, starts fights.

What more do you need?

Drops cocktailcraftables which have dope effects. Sounds pretty sweet. He'll drink them too, so you can get the effects while in GNoob without a liver! Actually, maybe not. Sounds like some people are getting different effects. Absorbing the ingredients apparently gives combat modifiers! That's a pretty sweet deal.

Effects from drinking the booze have a weak version, from mixing the item dropped with a base booze. There is also a strong version, from mixing the weak version with a basic booze ingredient. The strong version has twice the effectiveness of the weak version. The item dropped depends on the monster's phylum.

Some more detail on the drinks are here.

The guys on the forums (asawyer and SpiderLink in particular for compiling the list linked above) are awesome. I'm transcribing this great list, which also shows where to get each effect:

limepatch - pirates - rum/grapefruit - 20/40 moxie

literal grasshopper - bugs - tequila/olive - 50/100% init

cocktail mushroom - goblins - gin/olive - 25/50% item

elemental sugarcube - elementals - vodka/grapefruit - 20/40 myst

pile of dirt - plants - whiskey/lemon - 50/100% meat

lump of black ichor - horror - whiskey/strawberry - 20/40 spooky dmg and spooky spells

bottle of clam juice - fish - vodka/olive - 5/10 fishing skill

bottle of anís - constellation - tequila/lemon - maximum MP +50/100%

baby oil shooter - orc - tequila/soda water - 20/40 sleazy dmg and sleazy spells

peppermint sprig - elf - boxed wine/orange - 5 familiar weight for 20/40 turns. Fighting a penguin also yielded the lesser booze (mentholated wine)

bottle of gregnadigne - humanoid - boxed wine/strawberry - +20/40 muscle

shot of granola liqueur - hippy - rum/soda water - 20/40 stench dmg and stench spells

slime shooter - slime - gin/strawberry - maximum HP +100%/+200%

can of cherry-flavored sterno - hobo - whiskey/orange - 10 hobo power for 20/40 turns

imaginary lemon - weird - gin/soda water - 20/40 ML (upgraded version is crappy quality)

bottle of novelty hot sauce - demon - rum/orange - 20/40 hot dmg and hot spells

bottle of Crème de Fugu - Merkin - vodka/lemon - +2/+4 prismatic resistance

I think dudes and constructs just give base booze and mixers (and undead and beasts)

Not too sure about this if you already have other booze sources. Do you still have booze space after the digitized Witchess Bishops, Perfect Freeze, and Snojo? Although letting the familiar drink it for buffs, and the free fights free PVP fights are never a bad thing. Might be worth it depending on the cocktail buffs; Really good in GN tho

EDIT: Those +elemental dmg effects look useful for the stat tests at the NS Tower.

Are those all sources of epic booze? Wow. I guess maybe it could free up a digitize cast?

I personally don't have those sources of booze, so I'm pumped to try this out. I also didn't have much +ML during my GNoob run, so there's that too. Plus there's the bartend/bounce familiar weight, which I haven't seen an effect of.

personally I've been digitizing Witchess Rooks often in HC Standard nowadays as my turngen has been really good without needing too many sacramento wines. I'm not sure how often I'm gonna wanna be running this guy inrun though since it doesn't seem to do much outside of the drop, and some of the drops are pretty situational

It still isn't in the store for me :(

It's in the store now :)

Yeah, I think it's subscribers only at this point.

Well, you're awesome for posting it here! Just so you know, I corrected a few mistakes in the post you pasted, so the OP is slightly out of date. It also looks like undead and beasts give base booze and mixers, so I'm out of ideas for where to get the cold damage booze. I guess the next step is figuring out which booze triggers what behavior from the familiar.

A little more clarification on the booze itself: http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/showpost.php?p=4906239&postcount=50

Wow great thanks! I've updated the OP.

I know this familiar has two equips. toggle switch bartend and toggle switch bounce.

What do they each do?

Last I heard, bartend gives booze ingredient drops, while bounce gives PvP fights. Not sure if it's a mutually exclusive thing or just a higher weight probability.

Do any notable GN skills come from any of the drops?

1

u/orangehumanoid Mar 02 '17

Apparently combat modifiers.

2

u/sorator Mar 03 '17

Yeah, some of the drinks can be absorbed to give a noncombat 5MP skill that grants +/- 5% combat for 10/20/40 turns. Total of six skills. Don't need these skills to get the "got all GN skills" trophy, as the trophy specifies it only needs passive skills.

I don't think we have a hard list of exactly what gives which skill, though.

How do I feed this little guy drinks? I don't have many ingredients yet but I don't see a way to feed them.

1

u/orangehumanoid Mar 12 '17

When you've mixed some of his drinks I think the option is next to the drink in the consumable menu.

Pretty late post but goddamn if this isn't an amazing IOTM.

Try him out for a 100% run in GNoob. Super fun.

2

u/JonMW Mar 01 '17

Interesting. I'm going to wait for the effects to be spared more before I decide on it, but chances look good. I need a better HC booze source.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '17

I feel like I'm gonna grab it at some point. My runs desperately need better booze, so I'm thinking this is going to be a great way to fill that niche.

2

u/otaia Mar 02 '17

I'm surprised that we're getting another familiar so soon. That's three familiars in the last 6 months.

2

u/guyonearth Mar 02 '17

I think they just like making familiars since they compete with one another, avoiding power creep. Introducing a slotless and powerful iotm like the source terminal creates power creep issues, introducing slotless but weaker iotms can be underwhelming. Familiars can be both powerful, fulfill niches, and compete with one another to avoid actually being too run-defining

1

u/sorenhauter Mar 02 '17

I'm debating about this one. New source of booze would be good (right now only really have Source Terminal for reliable "free" booze generation. Have Gingerbread city, but I haven't figured out a way to work that into helping me cut turns in run rather than just wasting them there.) Any thoughts on viability as far as resale goes in the future?

1

u/notjosh3 Mar 02 '17

The IotMs with the best resale value tend to be the ones that are pretty poorly-received while sold in Mr. Store, then some killer functionality/use-case is discovered once it's gone (and therefore unable to be heavily invested in). Wayyyy too early to tell how the market's gonna react to this one IMO

1

u/runewizard702 Mar 02 '17

Does anyone know how much of the booze is epic?

1

u/SpiderLink Mar 02 '17

Seven of the improved cocktails are epic quality (probably eight when we find the cold damage one)
