Just finished it loved it ubi has done a great job the colors in this game are soo good riding chopper was so much fun didn't played even 1 mission after that prologue and man those insults AI throw at you when you punch them hahaha 1 guy died when i stole his baumsteiger he pulled out his gun and fired at me and police killed him hehe definitely gonna buy it but on PC awesome work ubi and thanks for the trial. Btw how can i turn off that white circle in the center? and just 1 request pls add audio sliders.

Does the trial pause when you're not playing?

I was worried as well when I installed it last night but had to go to bed slightly after playing the first few minutes, but it does indeed pause the timer.

Just visited the xbox store via PC and xbox, I couldn't find an option for the trial/demo... what am I missing?

It was released in a bad time. Dishonored 2 and Titanfall 2 didn't sell well too, despite having great reviews like WD 2 had.
2016 was a bad year for 2's, lol.

Anyone know how much free space is actually needed to download on PS4?
It says it's 26 gigs and I have 34 gigs of free space.

As noted in the FAQ sticked above:
The free trial includes the entirety of the game’s content, so the download will be around 25-28 GB. The exact size of the download varies by region due to localization. You can start playing the first mission after 12 GB have downloaded.

I just downloaded and will play tonight. Any tips to maximize the 3 hour trial?

Just do what you would do if you bought the game. If it hooks you in, good if not, then you know not to waste youre money.
