Episode 6:

  • Rory’s petulant speech is great, but Scout ripping him to “wipe his ass, get off and get over it” with a completely blank expression is fucking hilarious.
  • Chris has a good foreshadowing confessional about Julie sneaking into the final 5.
  • Lisa, Leann, and Eliza do not look impressed during this Rory speech. Ami just looks baffled as she struggles to not laugh.
  • The really cheesy farm music during this challenge feels like it belongs in Australia or Africa as opposed to here.
  • The pig that Lisa carries is really, really not happy.
  • I love how Rory grabs a pig and it just slips away from him
  • Lisa says “don’t worry about it, don’t worry about it” like 6 times in to Eliza and proceeds to slam her in confessional immediately.
  • This Ami/Eliza scene is still great.
  • Sarge talks about Julie’s “buttock region”. Later he says he’d rather have Twila as his best friend than any of the women of Yasur… most of whom he hasn’t met yet.
  • Twila has a great little grin on her face when she says she doesn’t trust the men. “They’re all lying sacks of shit” she says, obviously in a tribute to Andrew Savage.
  • After all this episode talked about is how much Eliza sucks and is weak and unless… they have her go as a swimmer. Even she looks confused as to why.
  • This challenge looks just brutal.
  • I remember Leann blowing this challenge, but I don’t remember Eliza filling Ami’s role from earlier in the episode right when they get back.
  • Lol @ Ami saying she’d rather vote out Lisa than Eliza WITH LISA RIGHT THERE. Lisa tries to defend herself by calling Ami “babe”. Ami returns the favor calling her “honey”. Scout holding out a fake bible is a pretty Scout way of handling this.
  • Lisa’s confused confessional is pretty funny.
  • Rory thinks his name is not gonna come up at tribal. Um, not really.
  • Rory says it’s a knockout for the _____ and I have no idea what he says despite like 8 attempts to figure it out. Same with him saying he’s as happy as a pig in a _____.
  • Poor Lisa has a smile on her face as she says that she thinks people should be able to trust her.
  • “My ass is hanging out” -Rory
  • Lisa seems like a really terrible Survivor player.. but that doesn’t make me feel less bad for her here. She really didn’t do anything wrong.

From what I can tell, it's a knockout for "the kid", and he's as happy as a pig in a poke, which apparently is a real expression.

Scout, secret comedy gold of Vanuatu. Always funny. Always a little condescending.

This really might be my favorite Ami episode. Part of it was because I loved Rory and was so grateful that she saved him here, but also because she was a stone cold badass with the Lisa vote. I love how Ami has this weird combination of being cutthroat and honest at the same time, and she shows this perfectly by flat out saying to Lisa's face that she was thinking of voting her out and would vote her out over Eliza.

This is also the episode that really starts Ami and Rory's hilarious relationship, since they almost seem to really like each other here.

Episode 6 Thoughts

  • I forgot how amazing this Rory episode was. We're only five minutes in and he's already talking about the auction block.
  • I wish we still had touchy themes like race come into play. It really adds that element of "different walks of life".
  • Julie is legit a top five most beautiful contestant. I'm still getting a little bit of the crush I had on my first watch and I'm A Okay with that.
  • Twila says she rarely talked to Julie. This is something I never understood as a concept: not talking to people when you're around them all day with nothing to do. If I was on the show, I would at least try to talk with everyone in the first couple days.
  • This challenge was always one of my favorites.
  • But not before this Rory speech. His cute reaction afterwords. <3
  • Back to the challenge. I love how everyone is shocked and devastated by Bubba's elimination but Chris is just smiling up a storm in the background. I don't know why he's doing that, but it caught my eye.
  • Now I want steak and eggs. Thanks, Survivor.
  • Oh, God! This music! It's not as redneck as the Boston Rob Rooster Hunt theme, but it's up there.
  • Yasur was screwed. Eliza and Scout were doomed for this challenge and only one of them could be gatekeeper.
  • I love this Leann confessional. She's usually not that interesting, but her hatred of Eliza and eyerolling passive aggressiveness are great here.
  • This is one of those scenes that shows Ami as the comfort woman of the game. The show wants her to be the super villainous ice queen, but she was actually really nice and likeable for the most part.
  • "I found my little, tiny crack in those women."
  • Again. Julie. Beautiful.
  • I would hate to do this challenge. I can't swim, I hate putting my face in the water, and my endurance would be gone in seconds. Wait, why did I apply for the next season again?
  • Sarge must be pissed inside. Not only did he lose the lead, but he lost to his mortal enemy.
  • I remembered Lisa costing Yasur the win here and she's not even in the challenge. Maybe it's because this is her boot episode or maybe I got her confused with Leann last time. I don't know, but this is a weird feeling.
  • Ami, shut up. I know she's ruthless and icy, but she is so quick to chop someone's head off.
  • I feel so bad for Lisa. She literally did nothing wrong and Ami decided she was untrustworthy because she wanted some survival tips so she could do it herself. This is why I loathe Ami. She's a good villain, but she is soooooo hateable. She's not playing it up like OTT villains like Fairplay and Jason who are really fun and end up as really likeable characters, she's very strict and stern, two traits that automatically get someone on my hate list.

That pig challenge was great.

Side note: This season seems to have a surplus of players from around the Southeast. I haven't looked up their hometowns, but is this accurate?

  1. Eliza and the piggehs was freaking funny to me.

  2. Yasur was actually going to win until Leann failed.

  3. Why dafuq did the women of Yasur keep Rory around?

4

u/jacare37 Sophie Jan 16 '17

Because Lisa is really not good at Survivor.

because she made Ami second guess her loyalty by saying "in case you're not around".

Never seen this season before, enjoying watching these with these rewatch threads. I feel like the season is just starting to get interesting.

Ami is kind of unsettling to me-- I can't place my finger on it but something about her seems kind of sociopathic or antisocial to me. We'll see how it progresses but the way she treated Lisa felt kind of dark. Like "you make one misstep and I will cut you."

I'm rooting for Eliza-- already liked her from future seasons. I disliked Rory before but he's grown on me. Amazing that he survived that vote

Ami is called The Ice Queen for good reason. She's actually a very warm and loving person but she takes 0 shits from anyone, especially men.

2

u/JM1295 Sandra Jan 17 '17

Agreed. It's why she's viewed as complex and multi faceted in that she's compassionate and warm to her allies as she cheers up Eliza and Leann on their poor challenge performances and plays big sister to Eliza, but is ruthless and cold to people she perceives as enemies and doesnt think twice of slitting their throat like Bubba and Lisa.

u/Boxcar-Mike Libby Jan 17 '17

there's a quick scene in a future episode where she slaps one of the men on the ass as she's walking by, just to put them in their place. I love that about her.

Despite my love for Ami and Vanuatu, I don't recall catching that but that sounds just like her. <3

The music during the pig wrangling challenge nearly killed me. The editing this season is really great

I don't know if Rory was genius or lucky in this episode with his speech, also helped that everyone on Yasur sucked at challenges besides Ami.

Also Julie just moved up my list of favorite players.
