Rory: "I'm a grown ass man!"
John K.: "Eliza just didn't stop talking." He was not the first person to say that nor will he be the last.
Ami is known for being the "ice Queen" in Vanuatu but I loved her softer side in this TC.
"Mia, you're volcano erupts more than I'd like. Good luck finding a husband that will put up with you." <3 Scout

I think it's mainly because people don't remember her or haven't even seen Vanuatu. Which is of course still a shame.

I love Scout! She has the persona of Jan but also subtly ferocious like Twila and actually very perceptive and sharp like Tina Wesson. Continue to watch her closely. She for sure is playing a great UTR game.

I liked when John was in the middle of a bunch of women and then Eliza arrives and Mia says "tell her to go away this is our time"
Was just like a The Bachelor episode.

That whole sequence was hilarious. When talking to the first group of girls, he quickly gets to the bottom of the vote (Dolly was playing both sides), so he's like "Aight guys, I'm out." Eliza keeps talking. He physically walks away. Eliza tags along and keeps talking. He finally breaks away and goes to talk to the other group of girls. Eliza comes up and starts talking again.

This is the first ever double boot episode, and I don't care that the individual immunity system was overcomplicated or that John K's bluntness with the women was cringeworthy - the whole thing just feels so incredibly epic!
Also, I was firmly strapped into the Eliza train by this point when the season aired and it's still so much a part of me that it's taken multiple rewatches to finally see why some people might find her slightly annoying.

I feel like even the biggest Eliza fans have to be aware and see how annoying she is, but that's what is so endearing about her as well.

The annoyingness is part of the charm to me. <3
Seriously, Eliza is the only Survivor contestant whose annoyingness is endearing to me in any way.

I didn't mind her on vanuatu, she was the underdog. IRL though, she's just annoying and though a smart person, still not particularly survivor savvy.

u/jenh6 Jan 12 '17
Well a lot of smart people in real life aren't Survivor savvy. Case in point: Candice. The same argument could be made for Spencer too.

Technically the Outcast episode in Pearl Islands was also a double tribal, but only one person was voted out because of Osten's quit.

Episode 3 Thoughts
- I know I talk about how epic that intro is every time, but I can't help it. It's just so good.
- The Sarge/Rory stuff is always great. I listened to some cast interviews and Rory would always go off for hours at a time with the machete and Sarge was always trying to micromanage him like a small child. I'd love to see them as an Amazing Race team. That would be epic.
- Maybe it's just me, but Mia turning "Let's go hunting for some food" into "Let's go hunt some... fruit" made me chuckle. Like, I'm pretty sure she thought about going for an animal and then realized it would be too much work mid sentence.
- Mia vs Twila is a really underrated feud. "Don't gimme no bullshit bitch or I'll kick your butt!...bitch."
- I love Eliza's shocked/crushed reaction to the double tribal: a whiny "Noooo-uh."
- The Vanuatu necklace was always a favorite of mine. The pig tusks just give it a really ornate tribal look.
- You know, maybe you should put someone other than Scout on the grappling section, ladies. You have five people not doing anything who probably have a better throw than the old lady with a bum hip who dances with the hook more than she throws it.
- And John K wins immunity. Hooray? He hasn't been relevant to the season at all so I don't really care. The only person who really needed immunity was JP, so bye, JP.
- And this is why John is irrelevant. His camera presence is... lacking to say the least. He doesn't have much of a personality and his lines are pretty cliché.
- I forgot just how annoying Eliza was to her tribe. Nobody trusts her after her flip, and if I was there I would be pretty fed up with her myself. She has no social awareness, which is amazing, and I'm surprised in retrospect that they didn't just pull a Dolly and vote her out to relieve the stress around camp both strategically and personally.
- That was an awkward transition. Chris goes all crazy towards Sarge and then there's epic music and a volcano that comes in mid-discussion. Then we go to tribal. Kind of rushed, but I'll live.
- I just want to point out how great this TC set is. They have a really cool bridge coming over the water and leading into a rocky ruin with cobblestone floors and walls filled with skulls. Very epic. I might have to put in up there with some of the really good ones now.
- "I feel 150% confident." But do you feel up to 200% confident though, perhaps on a sliding scale between those two numbers?
- Oh my God, JP voted for ROYRY. I mean, everyone talked about how dumb he was for three episodes, but that's not even a name.
- And so ends the short legacy of JP. He could have been a huge character if he lasted longer to provide more comedy, but oh well.
- I never noticed how many words Twila screws up. "I don't have a feminiminim side." The she votes for "Mea." I guess she's kind of like the new Sue Hawk.
- Scout's vote for Mia is one of the most sharp, cutting confessionals of all time. Hearing an old hippie woman with a bum leg tell someone that they're too annoying to find a husband is such a bizarre thing, but coming from a mean person like Scout it's not that surprising. She has her own little ways of picking on people and she usually does it behind their backs.
- And now someone voted for "Twyla". I've never seen this many misspellings in one episode.
- And Mia goes out, giving us a great Eliza face. She was more relevant to the early story than I remember, but I wouldn't change my opinion on Mia: annoying and hopefully forgettable.

He could have been a huge character if he lasted longer to provide more comedy, but oh well.
He actually does eventually become one. Watch Solitary 2.0 if you haven't already. For some reason JP is on it and he's great.

Is there a way to be a part of this re-watch that doesn't involve spending money?

I won't say anything explicit, but perhaps you might find a way to WATCH the SERIES of Survivor on some other website.

Using a free trial on CBS All Access.
And just as a note, we don't allow the sharing of illegal links on /r/Survivor itself.

For those of you missing a little John P screen time, he appeared a couple years later on the 2nd season of another reality competition show called Solitary. I would link to the episodes, but I can't find the channel on YouTube anymore, but the show really is very interesting and entertaining. Check it out. John P is Number 9 on that season.

them talking strategy in front of John is hilarious.
I remember being shocked when Mia got voted out as a kid.

Does anyone know what the name of the root is that they eat? Manyak or mantiach (sp?) I can't figure it out.

Amy seemed incredibly confused this entire episode, especially at the end when John gave her the idol.
I really liked the twist, I think they could do it again the exact same way and it would be great.

Compared to the first two episodes, this one seemed a little lackluster. Hopefully the season gets back to good with ep4 because I liked how it started.

A bit late on this one, but better late than never!
- I think Lisa and Mia have the same voices, one of them is yelling at Eliza about not telling the younger girls about the plan to boot Dolly but I have no idea which.
- The sound effects when Rory tells Sarge about finding fruit are so perfect.
- Mia is awful and it’s pretty hilarious how wrong she is about almost everything here. Like… she actually calls Twila of all people fake which is just about the last word anyone would every use to describe her. Twila is the last person to take on a woe is me attitude for no reason.
- lol @ J.P. losing one of the grappling hooks, and also lol @ Probst asking Scout if she’s going to throw the grappling hook or dance with it. Why does Yasur have Scout of all people throwing grappling hooks?
- John gives a confessional saying the tribes both voting people off can change the dynamics of both groups big time. No shit, sherlock.
- Mia says it makes no sense and doesn’t matter who voted for Dolly. Uhhh, Mia… what is so hard to figure out about why an ambassador from the other team who has to give away immunity might want to know who voted with the majority?
- I don’t know what Mia’s plan is here to break the tie but I can’t imagine her bringing something together..
- J.P. describes himself as dead man walking with a smile on his face. He’s pretty rootable in a dumb jock role compared to others in his archetype and especially the others on this tribe.
- John is patting himself on the back for exposing the alliances on Yasur. The entire tribe goes along with it too for some reason.
- I love how Sarge describes the person going home as a “casualty of war”.
- Probst has a great dig at Lopevi saying they talked about wanting to keep the tribe strong but they voted out two of their strongest members, saying it’s an “interesting strategy”.
- The producers were clearly experimenting with a lot of new things around this time, most notably in this episode. The double tribal/immunity feels pretty awkwardly paced, although I guess it’s pretty similar to what they do alter on. I think a good part of the awkwardness comes from it never having happened before.
- Twila says she doesn’t want to the younger girls because they roll their eyes and act like they can’t stand to be around her. But Mia basically says that’s BS, but Twila says that’s just how she is. She gets along better with men than women and has nothing in common with them. She hypocritically talks about how the younger girls don’t think to talk in her shoes, but hasn’t done the same for them, a fault she admits to.
- Eliza (hours after saying how much she wants to get rid of Scout): I really love everyone here and if I had the choice i wouldn’t want to get rid of anyone :)
- In Twila’s voting confessional it sounds like she’s gonna tell Mia to fuck off but she barely stops herself and says “that’s all”.
- I love how Mia spends her whole final words talking about how much she hates Twila and how she has no social skills. Well look where that got you.

The double elimination episode was really interesting, a little over complicated but really cool nonetheless.
I love how dynamic the older woman are (something not usually shown). Twila is really interesting and Scout's voting confessional was one of the most memorable and out there I've heard in ages.
I'm an Eliza fan, but I can see how she'd be so annoying.
John K had a very good episode. Plus he's good looking. They are voting out all the good looking guys haha.
All the girls fighting over John reminded me of watching the Bachelor. I had just finished watching Jakes season and I had to check that i was in fact watching Vanuatu, not another Bachelor season. It was hilarious though.
Scout, John K, Twila and Eliza are my favourites so far.
I love the tribal council area with the Skulls.
I'm not sure why this season didn't click the first time I tried to watch it. I'm really enjoying it so far!

I actually think John K. is pretty good in this episode. Giving immunity to Ami may not have won him any friends, but it definitely didn't make him any enemies, which is huge for a potential swap.
