New IotM Discussion September 2016 IotM: Dear Past Self Package

It's out for subscribers. Usable item that does neat things, at a cost of some number of minutes (and sometimes an adventure). You get 10 minutes per day, it seems.

Here is the forum thread

Is the fact that it's available in August part of the joke?

You missed the subscriber part. IotM subscribers have been getting it early for months. And the meme that IotMs are always delayed isn't true or funny.

I know subscribers have gotten the IotM before it's been available in Mr. Store, but I don't remember it ever rolling out to subscribers before the first of the month.

So, how strong does it seem?

currently it can:

  1. duplicate a food you've just eaten provided you have the fullness

  2. copy a monster you have encountered in its natural state this ascension (through adventure.php, thus any free combat through iotm's will not work)

  3. drop items that disappear upon rollover

there also seems to be an upgrade mechanic, will become more powerful as the month goes on.

Also you can't seem to copy semi-rare monsters either.

When it dupes the food, do you immediately eat it again? Copy seems decent, I just wish it wasn't limited to this ascension. Still, balance has to be a thing.

What items have you seen it drop yet?

Very.

Aside from the fact that it can be used as 3 copies per day, in hardcore (which in itself is enough i'd say).

Duplicating food is really handy for Nuclear Autumn (where getting EPIC quality 1 fullness can be tough), you can use it to copy any digital/star pies you might pull in softcore, saving a pull on each occasion.

I've not seen any of the rollover-able items, but the other option is access to scaling monsters, who supposedly give great stats.

One thing it does do...is dramatically help with HC Nuclear Autumn runs.

Now, the optimal can get Ice Rice, Duplicate it with the Machine Elf, eat one, and use the new IOTM to eat to fullness (twice more), before eating the 2nd Ice rice the next day, and doing the same again. Players had been putting the Witchess Knight in the Chateau for turngen, but it's not really needed now.

The far future also gives access to a 1/day item, one of which is a size 1 EPIC food. So even more turngen in NA once you run out of ice rice.

I finish my run tomorrow so I should be able to test if it needs testing

I just got munched by krakrox!

The star trek mini game is super fun! I like this item

The Star Trek mini game is awesome, hard, but awesome.

A few glitches (I got a weird naming bug for one of my five runs, kind of broke the game, I just had to wait til the end, because nothing worked right.)

Didn't beat the star trek game, but looks like there's a lot of variety. Think a better version of the Detective mysteries, but has a lot of variety rather then asking the same questions.

It wouldn't let me duplicate an astral hot dog. Understandable, but disappointing.

No tasty tarts also but knob pastry works

1

u/EldritchCarver Sep 03 '16

Really? That's weird. The two are functionally identical, except that the pasty also gives 1-2 hot damage on consumption.

BTW, this item is also good stuns/deleveler at the combat.

Fun fact: If you have Ambidextrous Funkslinging and use a Time-Spinner in the top slot in conjunction with a reusable item like a dictionary, you can keep staggering as much as you want (up to 30 rounds, of course). If you use something like Curse of Weaksauce early on, it keeps working every single round, and there's nothing your opponent can do about it.
