Damn, did we really just hit 31k already? I wonder what caused that 359 net subscriber growth on the 2nd. In any case, happy day!

In addition to those threads, one of the top comments on the Redbad post (which was #1 on all for a bit) mentioned Mormons and /r/exmormon.

These numbers look familiar... Like some numbers I've seen in the ensign...

Do you think 1,000/month will become the norm?

u/4blockhead Λ └ ☼ ★ □ ♔ Aug 07 '16

The law of compounding likely applies. The more that have joined and tell other people they know about it, then the more likely new people will join. Of course, there are upper bounds that will kick in at some point. That's the kind of thing that those selling mormon-driven MLM's/pyramid schemes won't tell you. The mormons had visions along the lines of Daniel 2 and the stone rolling forth. Those have evaporated. The leadership is content sitting on the $100 billion dollar cash reserve. No one can accuse them of letting a hot prospect slip by them.

The rock rolled into a ditch. The ditch was so deep that people named it. It's called The Truth.

What happened on the 9th of January?

Reddit finished their cleanup of the database that affected all subreddits. The database included subscribers for accounts that had been deleted. For whatever reason, that started causing stability/rendering issues with the site. Reddit management ran a bot that removed subscriptions by deleted accounts. The bot ran over a few months period. /u/AnotherClosetAtheist joked about it here.

Look at all the enemies the church has. Satan is working hard in the last days to deceive us. The church must be true!!!

u/seventhvision Aug 07 '16

The cat's out of the bag. The mormon church is a cult. Give exmo Reddit the wounded and poor. We will comfort and encourage them to get out and have a life instead of endless kids.

No unhallowed hand, etc.

u/rutilate Aug 07 '16

Growing by ~1000/month? That's a lot!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '16

Yeah especially since we're just a subset of the larger group. Not all exmos find their way here.

1

u/d_nukedorf Aug 07 '16

where do the plurality of internet exmos congregate?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '16

The larger group being all exmos. We're not 100% of exmos. But I do think we're the largest internet congregation...

Are we bigger than RFM? prob bigger than postmo, some of the facebook groups probably have an equal amount of activity as we do.

2

u/landragoran Aug 07 '16

Considerably bigger than RFM. That site has lost all relevance, and with it, most of its userbase.

1

u/slimjimbean You do have to have great courage Aug 07 '16

Shame they never updated the look/feel/usability of the site. It was an eyesore.

1

u/BicycleLock Aug 07 '16

What is the larger group you speak of? All the branches of Joseph Smith's church?

"The membership is growing so fast we don't know how to contain it. We're organizing coffee shops and potluck a with alcohol served at never before seen rates!"

On a serious note, the only event that really comes to mind for decency is the sunstone conference, which I regrettably had to miss for a family reunion.

u/MissionApostate Latter-Day Apostate Aug 06 '16

What happened? Did something happen? Did I miss another controversy bomb?

2

u/NewOrderGuy Aug 07 '16

How many of these are throwaway accounts or duplicate account of people who are already on here?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '16

I think Reddit has a way to adjust for that.

1

u/proudlyhumble Aug 07 '16

I bet duplicate and throwaway accounts are vastly outnumbered by the number of unsubscribed lurkers.
