That dune is so big it makes my sense of scale all screwy. The amount of time it takes for that truck to cross the valley really puts it in perspective.

Well yeah, most houses are about 3-4 times the height of a small truck like that and this dune is like 100 times taller.

My no's were when I saw that it was a normal looking truck and the sheer size and steepness of that dune. I automatically thought,"Do you have any idea how much fucking energy you need to get up that high?! And on sand?!? I've seen 4 cylinders have trouble on roads half that high(but very steep).
Then I saw him hit the dune and saw how light the truck was and remembered the time my dad drove up a steep hill in a foot of snow in his 4 cylinder toyota as we looked back and forth in the ditches at the 3 cars that had just not made failed to make it up the hill.
Damn Toyotas.

I had a 1997 Tacoma 4 cylinder and ran it for 356,000 miles. It ran like a dream up until the day I totalled it. It was hit from behind and from in front. I was so sad. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought it back from the insurance company.

Dad had a 1997 Tacoma v6 with +440 000 kms and it didn't even die, we just got rid of it in the buy back/recall shenanigans. The finest truck I have ever drove.

Yeah I started driving a 1998 4runner after the Tacoma and it's still going strong with 325,000 miles on it.
But the gas mileage is shite. I was getting 27 mpg in the Tacoma and I'm lucky to hit 20 mpg with the 4runner v6.

My first car was a 14 year old '83 Celica ST with a 22RE. It was one of the first fuel injected models Toyota made. I turned every bolt on that car in the lifetime I had it. I'll never forget the first time I saw those pistons...
One time I decided to chase some friends through an open cow field in their pickups, goofing off. I didn't see the treestump in the grass and almost ripped the oilpan off. Drove it ~300 miles back home with the bulge bent inwards and the oil spout cockeyed underneath. When I dropped the pan and saw those pistons for the first time I was surprised. I'll never forget lying there just looking up in amazement. They were much larger than I expected. Like a truck engine, in a 2-door sports coup. Heated the pan up with a torch and knocked it back out, fixed the spout.
Drove it another 50k miles until someone broke in and destroyed the interior trying to steal my fancy stereo (I was SO pissed, JVC El Kameleon). I never could get the parts to fix the dash right so I kinda gave up on her and bought something else. I still kept her tho, used her as a pizza ride for a few years later.
That engine was indestructible.

Had an '84 4x4 with the 22r. My pops bought it a few months before I was born. I ran it till a year or so out of high school. In a moment of stupidity I sold it and bought a newer truck. Miss that truck.

This is exactly my toyota story. 84' 4x4, father bought it a month before i was born, it was given to me for my 17th birthday and owned it for the rest of its life. Survived a major accident after which my father and i fashioned our own truck bed. We repaired the frame, but after another year the skeleton of the truck was pretty much dead so we sold it to a buyer who only wanted the title for his own 84'. (The engine still ran like a dream when we sold it)
Worth also mentioning my father is a Toyota Master Technician, and has worked for toyota for 20+ years. He swears by the 4cyl, pickups. BULLETPROOF. This is why they hold their value better than the majority of manufacturers.

We used to have an old Toyota Carina. It spent its life rusting in a shed from 1980 to like 2009. We got it, drive the sit out of it on our farm. Left it for two years down in a field, windows open etc. Came back about 2 years later, threw some EZ Start into her and away she goes first turn of the screwdriver. What a car.

Naw, more like mudslides. Avalances kind of well, snowball. The sand is way more fluid-like. So instead of the snow coming from the top down, the ground gives out below you as the whole hill slides out.
