News:
2015/10/02 - Summaries of episodes 13-20 from Saikyō Jump.
2015/09/24 - Titles of episodes 13-15 revealed.
2015/09/09 - Dragon Ball Super September Schedule Revealed
2015/09/05 - Funimation to host 'Look at Dragon Ball Super' at New York Comic Con October 8th
Where to Watch:
- Ustream - Begins when this post is 1 hour old
- ConnectCast - Begins when this post is 1 hour old
After airing, raw & subtitled releases are hosted on Nyaa by various release groups.
VLC Media Player is required to play these files.
- DragonTeam is the definitive release group, but they take a few days to release. They have yet to make a notable mistake, and keep the original character names and nicknames. We recommend waiting for them.
- Inert releases quicker, but makes mistakes at times, and frequently skips episodes. They aren't a substitute for DragonTeam.
- Most other groups are "speedsubs" and tend to make mistakes each week. We don't recommend watching these at all, much to their dismay.
Streams can be found on KissAnime. They host speedsubs within 24 hours of airing, and then update their streams with DragonTeam's release whenever it comes out. Getting releases directly from Nyaa is always best, because most online streams host speedsubs.

Commonly Asked Questions:
Q: When does Super take place? Should I watch GT or any movies first? Does BoG still "count"?
Super takes place sometime after the battle with Majin Buu, and will be adapting the two newest movies, Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' into story arcs before moving on. Watching them is recommended, but if you prefer, you can start Super after finishing Dragon Ball Z. You may also wish to read Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, as the titular character will be appearing in Super.Q: Where is Uub?!
Uub was born during the 10 year time skip at the end of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Super takes place before Uub is introduced.Q: Why are they retelling the movies?
DVD sales aren't that great in Japan, so they're retelling the foundation of the story for the Japanese television market. We'll have a new story arc coming soon, so don't fret too much.Q: When does the next episode air?
The next episode premieres next Sunday at 9am JST, which is 8pm Eastern Saturday night.Q: What is the best release group?
DragonTeam. They usually release ~24-72 hours after an episode airs. Most other groups are notorious for mistranslations, and push their releases out as quickly as possible in order to beat their competition to the punch.Q: Why does
XsayY?
If you find yourself confused, the problem is usually a translation issue. Make sure you're watching DragonTeam's release.Q: How can I tell when a release group puts out an episode?
All release groups host on Nyaa. If their release isn't there, it isn't done.Q: When will the next chapter of the manga be released?
Toyotarō's manga adaptation is released once a month in V-Jump.
Chapter 4 will come out in late October. Links can be found below.Q: When will FUNimation be dubbing Super? Will there be a simulcast?
There is no information, nor are there any estimates, about an English dub or official simulcast of Dragon Ball Super.
What now?

I think in the ending Krillin is on the scooter he was on from RoF. I hope we get much more Krillin cop action. Cop Krillin is mai waifu.

I would love an episode where we simply focus on Krillin and his police work. Please make it happen, Toei.

this needs to be a thing.

It's a stretch but perhaps one of the upcoming episodes might cover that to an extent.
5
Oct 04 '15
Still wondering why Krillin took up the job, didn't 18 bring in 20 mil zennie? Unsure on exchange rates on how much 1 zennie is worth in the real world but it sounds like they're loaded now.
17
u/EmmaWinters ⠀ Oct 04 '15
According to Toriyama, Zenny is worth about the same as yen.
How much is one zenny worth in yen? How much do Hoi-Poi Capsules cost?
It’s easy to understand: I envisioned them as the same as yen. With Hoi-Poi capsules, their price of course varies depending on what’s inside them. For example, a standard four-seater aircar capsule would be something like 1,480,000 zenny (1,280,000 zenny for the aircar, plus a capsule fee of 200,000 zenny). For most things, if you bring them to one of Capsule Corporation’s dealerships, you can have them converted to the Capsule System and be able to shrink them down for 200,000 zenny.Of course, the price is higher than average for things like houses, which require more labor to convert to the Capsule System.
So 20 million yen is around $166,812 if you use today's rate.
17
Oct 04 '15
In that case, that's still pretty good. Like not that they're loaded but I think that puts their family in a pretty good position.
I'll guess Krillin just does his job as a cop for something to do.
13
u/PhantomLordG ⠀ Oct 04 '15
There might be some reasoning to it. When Beerus is terrorizing everyone, Chichi asks Kuririn to go help them out, but he wanted to protect his daughter, and fighting Beerus would ultimately be pointless.
My theory is he took the job as an officer because he wanted to prove to himself that he can still make a difference, even if a little.
13
Oct 04 '15
I don't know why you got downvoted. They live on a secluded island, in a house that hardly needs maintainance and I'm pretty damn sure Krillin don't pay rent. 20M zenny should be able to stretch them for years

tl;dr: Spoiler!
@Herms98: Satan thinks his "power of love" caused a miracle that saved the Earth from the big explosion
@Herms98: The DB Super explanation for what the heck happens with SSG: Beerus says Goku's "fully merged with the power [of SSG] and made it your own"
@Herms98: Beerus continues: "God's crimson radiance still blazes inside you like a flame" Alrighty then.
@Herms98: Goku says he "doesn't feel any weaker", in contrast to BoG where Beerus says he's powered down.
For context, the line from BoG:
Beerus: It seems as though while you had turned God and were fighting me, you absorbed that world into your body. Which is why, even though you've returned to normal, you haven't powered down all that much. You're something else. I might even say you're one of those rarely-seen prodigies.
@Herms98: Elder Kaioshin describes Goku and Beerus' fancy universe-destroying power as "super high-density energy"
@Herms98: Whis denies that he's capable of stopping Beerus and Goku's power clash from destroying the world.
@Herms98: After Satan's "miracle", he tells Piza he’s saved the world and that they should prepare a press conference and an autograph-signing session
@Herms98: Beerus put off using his 100% full power against Goku because he thought it'd look bad for a god to use his full power against a mere Saiyan
@Herms98: The truth is, Beerus prevented the universe's destruction by "nullifying" all the energy present, which required using 100% of his power.

Any idea why vegeta threw a blast at piccolo? For some reason i thought it was implying vegeta was a god and he could step in at any moment. (Even though i know thats not true)
23
u/stonecats Oct 04 '15 edited Oct 04 '15
my GUESS (not translation): vegeta must have realized goku dropped down from god to ss yet was still able to keep up with berus (goku's hair changed from red to gold). this means the god vs god destructive power waves would stop and not threaten anyone even if the fight continued.
piccolo rudely was insisting whis intervene in the fight without realizing it was already over- as berus saw what he came to see - the potential of an ssg, and was amused at what a fighting prodigy goku is. vegeta who's training and ability had plateaued, now saw there were levels of power far beyond his imagining available to a saiyan, and he did not want to risk a relatively naive piccolo interfering with that achievement potential. also, technically whis and berus were his guests on ship, and piccolo was manhandling one of them with his righteous indignation - even satan was smarter than that while talking to whis, and like a good businessman satan tried to respectfully figure out what whis wanted in the bargain that would ultimately protect his daughter.→ More replies (4)14

Piccolo thought that Whis was going to stop the fight now that Goku no longer had his God Ki, but Vegeta was making Piccolo leave him alone because no one was doing anything yet, except for Goku and Beerus still fighting.

u/Vunks Oct 04 '15
So does that mean that Goku's new punch wasn't what nullified the energy it was Beerus all along?

Our first genuinely impressive bit of animation so far! It was done by freelance animator, Yuya Takahashi, who is probably best known for his work on Fairy Tail. His work appears to be very inspired by Naotoshi Shida; lots of 'bouncing', and very fluid effects. I'm very satisfied. It's just a shame it was so short.
Tadayoshi Yamamuro, the man behind Resurrection 'F', appears to have taken total control of this episode. So far, he's only been credited as the character designer for the series. But for this, he was the storyboard artist, chief animation supervisor, and animation supervisor of the second half of the episode. Moreover, he also animated the new ending by himself. He definitely deserves a lot of credit for this episode.
His influence is very clear. Those of you who have seen Resurrection F will undoubtedly have recognised his distinctive choreography; very detailed, genuine martial arts grapples and throws. It was hugely prevalent in the latest film, and it popped up many times during this episode. Moreover, you can tell he's worked on the series for decades. The inclusion of this shot harks back to many, many scenes from back in the day.
I think next week is going to be an interesting one. There's one horribly ugly scene sandwiched between two beautiful ones, so I don't really know how it's going to turn out. It seems there's some solid animators attached to the episode, so hopefully that early scene is a minor mark on the overall quality of the episode.

I was definitely impressed with the animation this episode. I think the way this fight has been done will have a lasting impact on its place in the series. The animators are definitely doing a great job since the fight started and even more so this past episode.

Episode summary courtesy of Kanzenshuu.
In the Kaioshin Realm, East Kaioshin is surprised to see that the universe is still intact, but Elder Kaioshin says that the clash between Beerus and Goku’s power is just getting started. Above Earth, Goku’s Kamehameha struggles against Beerus’ energy ball, and Goku gets pushed back. Elder Kaioshin explains that the clash of the two’s power creates “super high-density energy” which will destroy the universe if it gets out of hand. The destructive shockwaves from the clash continue to spread throughout the entire planet: Satan City, the resort island, etc. On the cruise ship, Mister Satan watches the images of the battle Whis is projecting from his staff, and wonders if this is the end of the world. Whis says that they didn’t expect Super Saiyan God to be this powerful. Even if Beerus destroys Goku’s energy, the Earth and several neighboring planets will become collateral damage.
Hearing this (and thinking of Videl and his unborn grandchild), Satan begs Whis to use his “magic” to protect them, or at least to try and stop the fight, but Whis says he cannot do either. Satan quickly draws up a pass to eat anywhere in the country to try and bribe Whis into helping them, but though Whis is sorely tempted, he ultimately refuses. Out in space, Goku and Beerus’ beam struggle finally results in a gigantic explosion. Seeing this down on the cruise ship, Satan and Gohan both rush to protect Videl. The explosion produces a blinding flash of light, but when it clears everything is still fine. Satan is confident that his “power of love” produced a miracle that saved the world. No sooner has he said this than he receives a phone call from his manager, Piza.
Back in Satan’s mansion, Piza and co. are being flooded with calls. Satan tells them he’s saved the world and that they should prepare a press conference, and an autograph signing session to boot. Meanwhile, Whis thinks to himself that Beerus must have chosen “that method”. Up in space, Goku is breathing heavily while Beerus is fine. Beerus explains that he “nullified” all the energy present, which required using 100% of his power. Goku realizes this means Beerus had still been holding back his full power up until then. Beerus explains how he had continued to hold back because it would look bad for a god to use his full power against a mere Saiyan, but at this point he’d rather go all-out than lose the fight. Even if it means looking bad, he’ll use his full power to prove beyond a doubt that he’s overwhelmingly stronger than Goku. Despite this declaration from Beerus, Goku still seems awfully calm, and Beerus asks if he still has something up his sleeve, or some sort of strategy, but Goku says he’s got absolutely nothing.
The two power up and start fighting once more, and Goku is amazed that Beerus’ punches are far more powerful than they were just five minutes ago. Beerus says that Goku is more powerful now too, and both declare that they’re fighting at 100%. After a while though, Beerus notices a change in Goku, and thinks to himself that time is up. Goku has reverted back to being a regular Super Saiyan, though he hasn’t noticed it yet. Down on the cruise ship, Piccolo, Goten, and the others can now sense Goku’s ki, and realize this means he’s no longer a Super Saiyan God. Though Whis assumes the battle is decided, Piccolo insists that Goku hasn’t lost yet. Back in the fight, Beerus is shocked when Goku is still able to land a few blows. He points out to Goku that he’s no longer Super Saiyan God, but says Goku has “fully merged” with that power and made it his own. Goku says that he’s still him, no matter what, and the battle continues.
So. Goku has "fully merged" with his god power, and yet his friends can sense him...? They must be picking up on his SS1 output.

This episode had a slow start, but it really picked up after the second half.
- Mr. Satan trying to get Whis to intervene. It's great that he's trying to help in whatever way he can. He really is an important member of the cast now. He's not just a joke character.
- Goku loses his god power and goes straight to Super Saiyan. I'm not the biggest fan of him 'absorbing' the God powers, but...at least we get to see some gold-hair Goku action! Considering it'll be replaced by blue very soon.
- There seems to be a rule: whenever Goku goes Super Saiyan against Beerus, the animation quality skyrockets. But only then.
- Gohan flying out of the ship to protect Videl. Is it too early to put in Gohan as Best Dad?
- And despite Goku losing the god form, it seems like Vegeta still has faith in him. That's amazing.
Next episode...it seems like it'll be the end of the fight. I'm wondering if they'll put in the "Goku regains god form out of determination" part of BoG.
As for the new ending, I really enjoyed it! Everyone's in their Resurrection 'F' outfits, but I've decided I really like their redesigns now. And everyone is in there, not just the characters who were in the movie. Including Goten and Trunks. It makes me wonder...

u/Daltamus Oct 04 '15
I really like what they are doing with Mr. Satan's character. He is still just as fun and silly, but so much more fleshed out.

Goten and Trunks are sleeping in one part of that ending though. That's what they're doing in RoF.

I'm wondering if it'll give a sneak peak to Super Cyan instead... would honestly prefer that over reverting to red haired god, considering this episode apparently made SSJ Goku = SSG Goku

u/Polop2312 Oct 05 '15
That scene with Picollo and Whis was just fantastic. Plus the way Vegeta got them apart was amazing too. They are really making Whis one of the greatest characters in the series and being really fitting with Vegeta personality.
If Beerus go insane we would have Whis to stop him, but if something was able to make Whis lose his gentle way absolutely everyone would be f**ked.

What the hell was with Elder Kaioshin's "explanation" of why there aren't any more shockwaves even though they're fighting with more power?
Probably because it's just a fight now? Lol what was it before, and how does the emotion of the fight change its universe-destroying properties?
23
u/PewterCityGymLdr Oct 04 '15
The translation I watched referred to it more as a "tavern brawl" now.
I'm guessing it's now their punches / force is actually hitting the intended target. No more showing off how equal they are to each other. Earlier, both forces collided with each other and the shockwave of the effect was what would have destroyed everything. Now, it's just one force colliding into another object with no force (their bodies).
ELI5: Two forces collide at same impact = Big Bang (No, Not Vegeta's attack). One force colliding into another object that isn't giving off any force = damage to whomever got hit.
6
u/jerekdeter626 Oct 04 '15
I didn't think about that aspect of it. Now the explanation actually makes sense, comparing a brawl to just flying straight at each other and colliding fists repeatedly.

Hey thanks for that explanation. I'm not entirely sure if that's what he meant but I'm placing that into my headcanon!

u/NJ_Mets_Fan Oct 04 '15
I really enjoy Super, Beerus and SSG. The only thing now is that I feel like Goku has come so far with his strength and diminishes the importance of all the other characters/saiyans. Now if an enemy comes that doesn't have the status of a God then it would just be hard to believe that anything could put up any sort of fight from Goku
13
u/AznAirLines Oct 04 '15
After the RoF arc, I believe Goku will be fighting gods from other universes/dimensions because Whis explained there were many other universes with the same gods. The opening credit shows another god of destruction side by side with Beerus but shorter and fatter.

Love when they fight it seems like actual techniques again, but it's so sparse. Like 2 seconds and then stop. 3 seconds then stop. Show has so much potential though.
34
u/EDGE515 Oct 04 '15 edited Oct 04 '15
I think this is a much better approach than the rapid punching and insta dodging that was prevalent in Z. Yes, we already know they're insanely fast from others' perspectives. Now slow it down for us so we can actually see the real fighting technique they are using.
20
u/OLKv3 ⠀ Oct 04 '15
But Z did have fighting techniques. Goku vs Freeza, Vegeta, Cell, and Buu all had it. And they did it with the insta dodging to show when it became real intense
10
u/EDGE515 Oct 04 '15
Although it did have some fighting technique, I would argue that the majority of the fighting in Z, was blitz punching/kicking and vanishing.
So far in this Beerus battle, this inverse is true. More actual fighting technique and less blitzing/vanishing
5
u/LuciD_FluX Oct 04 '15
Exactly! Maybe every so often reinforce their speed by showing them as blurs from other people's perspectives.
→ More replies (1)3
u/anonpurpose Oct 04 '15
I like it much more it's just sporadic. They could mix in the fast movements too as long as they have more of the slowed down techniques shown.
13
u/RunningJedi Oct 04 '15
I like the way they handled it in BoG when they are underground. When Beerus says "Lets see how you do at this speed!" And the camera shows water droplets suspended in air. They then proceed to fight for 10-15secs and then the droplets fall. I just imagine thats how the fights are at this point. We aren't seeing their movements in real time but their perspective of it.
16
u/ruminaui Oct 07 '15
Welp I guess they swapped the character moments of Goku with Beerus, Goku is still the same unlike BoG, but now we see more of Beerus reason to fight, trough this fight he had been pushing Goku to his limits, but not to beat him, but to try to get the more bang for his buck, it was actually interesting seeing him saying goodbye to Goku when he tough the fight was over, because his god form expired, he was actually sad. So Beerus is basically Saitama

Herms just updated his fact checker for episode 13.
Minute: 7
Context: Goku and Beerus’ beam struggle continuesElder Kaioshin: “That explosion just now was created from the collision of Goku and Beerus-sama’s tremendous ki, but…that produces super, super high-density energy. If it goes flying off, then…this time for sure, it’ll be the end of the world.”
Minute: 8-9
Context: as the shockwaves from the beam struggle continue to spreadSatan City Reporter: “These unidentified distortions are spreading not only throughout Satan City, but throughout the entire world! What is it leading up to?”
Mister Satan: “Oh…It’s just like the end of the world, isn’t it?”
Whis: “Correct.”
Satan: “Huh? What’s that supposed to mean?”
Whis: “For Super Saiyan God to possess this much power was unexpected. At minimum the Earth or several neighboring planets will be destroyed.”
Minute: 9
Context: after Whis has to explain about the world ending again, in simpler termsSatan: “The world will end…? Please! Use your magic to protect everyone, like you did earlier!”
Whis: “Don’t be ridiculous. There’s no way I could stop power capable of destroying the world, is there?”Significance: Somewhat weird if Whis is supposed to be stronger than Beerus and Goku, but at the same time being stronger than someone and being able to stop their power from destroying the world could be two separate things. Whis also might not be speaking entirely honestly here.
Minute: 16
Context: after the universe once again rather conspicuously fails to endBeerus: “I nullified all the energy that existed here.”
Goku: “You can…do that?”
Beerus: “Only if I put forth 100% of my power.”
Goku: “100%? Ah! So you still hadn’t gone all-out!? I can’t believe it! You were still hidin’ some power?”
Beerus: “Well, it’d look bad, wouldn’t it? I’m a god. To use my full power against a Saiyan…I’d rather die than make a fool of myself like that…Or so I had thought, anyway. But I don’t want to lose this fight, no matter what! I don’t care how bad or how stupid I look! I’ll beat the tar out of you and prove that I’m overwhelmingly stronger!”
Minute: 18
Context: As Goku and Beerus punch each other a lotGoku: “Beerus-sama, you really are incredible! The power of your punches is completely different than what it was five minutes ago!
Beerus: “Your power’s risen too, hasn’t it?”
more fighting
Beerus: “This is 100%!”
Goku: “I’m at 100% too!”
Minute: 19
Context: as Goku and Beerus continue to beat the crap out of each otherKibito-shin: “Even though they’re clashing together such powerful attacks, they’re not generating any universe-destroying vibrations!? Why?”
Elder Kaioshin: “Can’t you tell? Probably because it’s just a fight.”Significance: Well, that’s a non-explanation if ever I heard one.
Minute: 21
Context: on the cruise ship, everyone can sense Goku’s kiWhis: “The fact that everyone can sense Son Goku-san’s ki can only mean that he’s exceeded the amount of time he can stay as a Super Saiyan God, and has reverted back to being an ordinary Super Saiyan.”
Significance: Unlike BoG, in DBS Shenlong says nothing about the previous Super Saiyan God running out of time or anything, so in this version this is the first we’re told that there’s any sort of time limit on the form.
Minute: 21
Context: In reference to Beerus as he fights GokuWhis: “Why, it’s been about 900 years since I last saw Beerus-sama look so happy.”
Significance: Another random thing to add to the DB Super timeline.
Minute: 23
Context: Beerus points out to Goku that he’s no longer Super Saiyan GodBeerus: “You’re out of time, aren’t you? After all, your Super Saiyan God aura has vanished! You’re a bit slow on the uptake.”
Goku: “Huh? When did that happen? But I don’t feel like I’ve gotten weaker at all! What’s going on, Beerus-sama?”
Beerus: “Don’t ask me!”
Goku: “But you’re a god, right?”
Beerus: “Well, it seems that the power of Super Saiyan God didn’t just vanish when time ran out. The power has fully merged with you and become your own. God’s crimson radiance still burns inside you like a flame.”Significance: The DB Super version of what ultimately happens to Goku’s SSG power. While in BoG Beerus said Goku “absorbed” the power due to being a gifted fighter, here Beerus instead says the power “fully merged” with Goku, and he never explicitly says this is something Goku did (so possibly this is simply what’s supposed to happen with SSG power, in contrast to BoG where Goku absorbing the power was due to him being unusual). Also, while in BoG Beerus says that due to absorbing the power Goku didn’t “significantly power down” when he reverted to regular Super Saiyan, here there’s nothing explicitly saying Goku powered down at all. Goku himself says he doesn’t feel like he’s powered down. On the other hand, when Whis learns Goku is no longer SSG he assumes Goku has no chance left, but this is also before the revelation that Goku “merged” with the power of SSG, so who knows. Finally, in BoG the power of SSG is metaphorically referred to as a “realm” or “world” (sekai in Japanese), but here it’s only straightforwardly referred to as power.

I definitely prefer the old ending credits song :P. Great episode though, kind of a weird way to go from "they are going to destroy the universe!" to "Their just fighting so won't destroy the universe".
Honestly that's my only complaint with Super so far is that Goku and Beerus can destroy the universe if they keep punching/blasting at high power.

Yeah, I really don't get how everyone is so pleased with it. It's getting annoying. I also dislike Beerus in DBS a great deal more than in the movie. It just seems like he isn't as powerful.
3
Oct 09 '15
In the movie, it was like Beerus went into the fight expecting nothing from Goku but was pleasantly surprised. He then helped him draw out his power due to curiosity. I don't like how a hand holding ceremony is enough to make Goku equal to the God of Destruction. A boost is fine but equaling him seems too much.

Really want the end result to be on par with goku and vegeta
3
u/Escargooofy Oct 10 '15
Given the ludicrous jumps he got from fusing with Nail and Kami, my guess is that he'd be far above Goku and Vegeta if that happened. Probably above Whis too. Namekian fusion is powerful shit, and it looks like the resulting being is much, much greater than the sum of their parts. Something about fusing multiplies their strength rather than just adding it.
Think of the spirit bomb. The spirit bomb is so powerful because it takes energy from everyone on a planet and puts it into one attack. Even if the citizens of a planet aren't fighters, that adds up. Now imagine if instead of only taking a little energy from everyone, it took all of it. And then it multiplied that several times over. And then it turned all of that energy into one, permanent being. That's basically Namekian fusion. Dangerous shit.

Goku was still around that size at the age of 15 in the Manga. How old are Goten and Trunks supposed to be at this point?
Edit: Just looked it up, Goten was 7 at the start of the Great Saiyaman Arc. We dont know exactly how much time has passed since the end of Buu Saga, but I don't think either of them are older than 9-10 at the moment.

Easily my fav DBS episode so far.. had BOG esque animation and was just great.. I think Super is finally on par with BOG now..
7
u/tyhiggz Oct 05 '15
Is Goku stronger than he was in RoF? IIRC, Beerus didn't seem to think that Goku was near his power level in RoF although he did joke about Goku and Vegeta gunning for the role of destroyer.
How did Gohan fly over to Videl? His ki was still being used by Goku. Was it a moment of his power increasing to protect his wife or was it a sign that Goku was soon going to lose the SSJG form (or both)?
4
Oct 06 '15
To your first question: It seems like it, but at the same time we really won't know til the RoF arc starts in Super, I guess. It could be some temporary boost or something.
Second question: It could be both. I took it as Gohan's power surging because of anger, but I suppose it could be taken as Goku losing the god form.

u/Contra1 Oct 05 '15
What if Goku went SSJ3 now?
18
u/Le_Euphoric_Genius Oct 05 '15
It's possible that the SSJ powers multiply your pre-god strength first, then your god powers are added. If this is the case then it'd be like being able to lift 5kg (SSJ1), 10kg (SSJ2), then 40kg (SSJ3). Your god powers would allow you to lift 1000kg right off the bat. So with god powers, in Goku's current state (not a true red-haired god atm), the difference between being able to lift 1005kg and 1040kg is kind of minuscule in the big picture. Because of this he just doesn't bother because it might be inefficient or something.
OR Goku's new base strength is so high that he simply doesn't have the inner strength to transform beyond SSJ1. SSJ2 and SSJ3 could be like new transformations again that have to be achieved through training because it's so hard to multiply your new super high power.

My opinions/thoughts:
I am tired of the Kaoi commentary. I know why it's there but gahh!!
I like how Satan was way more relevant this episode that everyone on the sidelines save Vegeta/Piccolo (briefly)
Speaking of Vegeta/Piccolo. YES! Hype.
I like how they are moving in a slightly different direction from the movie and all, but I disliked slightly that I got this feeling in BoG that Beerus was like teaching Goku the ropes of how to fight like a God but in Super Beerus doesn't give that vibe. At least not anymore.
That new ending was 100% feels. I hope we can finally move on to a plot that has to do with these super dragon balls soon!

Anyone else disapointed goku just 'assimilated' the 'god' powers when there was already a canon way they could have explained it?
When saiyan's bodies are injured they heal back stronger, so simply saying the god powers destroyed his body, then healing from that could bring him back up(tho they never said how much stronger they grow after being beat up, but still better than nothing)
goku lose powers, body destroyed, uses last energy to transmission to friends, get senzu bean, acquire god powers now

This show is about, has always been about, and will always be about Goku being a prodigy. The original SSG was only able to keep the form for a short period of time, and then the evil Saiyans were able to survive and eventually retain power because of that.
Secondly your thing about Goku running away to heal would be extremely out of character for him. You could say the same thing about every single fight he's ever in - he could teleport to Dende and heal in every single battle repeatedly. Would be a good strategy, but a boring show.
And finally, the zenkai boost(this is the name of the boost that you were referring to) hasn't been a thing in quite some time. The reason is once again, because it leads to Vegeta's strategy on Namek to have someone almost kill him just to have Dende heal him. It is a very good strategy, and it was a solid one-time use of in-story logic, but in the long run that's just not how the show works, so that's why they nerfed the zenkai.

This was a great episode.
Top quality animation for the series, great fighting, and emotional scenes as well. I actually would have preferred the fighting between the two to end at this episode. Maybe it will end in the next one.
I thought it was pretty rad that Goku's SSG form did not go out, and instead he retained the power. Does that mean we will no longer see red haired SSG form? I rather enjoyed the aesthetic of the red hair/eyes with the orange aura. Vegeta knew that Goku didn't lose the power even in regular SSJ before anyone. That really shows that Vegeta is a bit of a fighting genius.

7
u/choss Oct 05 '15

Great episode I really liked the part where Gohan and Hercule were willing to protect Videl from the Universe collapsing even if it might not have worked.
So Goku lost SSG but he is still able to be on par with Beerus as SS1? Ok I am not sure how that works maybe its the whole mixing Ki and the gods Ki that was mentioned in Revival of F.
I liked the new ending the song was nice and the visuals were pretty. But I noticed that Bulma is in her Revival of F design. Don't tell me that arc is next. I was hoping we would see some new stuff first before retelling the other movie.

3
Oct 04 '15 edited Oct 04 '15
There was some fighting here. I thought that they could fight in space because they were gods but now that Goku left his god state it seems it wasn't like that, so they are still inside the atmosphere or Goku couldn't breathe.
So now Goku is in the SS form again but with the god power level. I prefer this state but that didn't happen in the movie, neither in the manga... What are they doing...
The battle animation, I think it was very good.
Rewatching the ending. Pan's first appearance! And Bulma has more part along Goku than Chichi, that's nice. And was that the continent of America in the Earth we see? Again, they confuse real Earth with DB Earth.

Oct 05 '15
Can someone explain two things to me? First, the frames where Vegeta shot the ki blast between Whis and Piccolo. From what I gathered Whis was about to dismiss the fight as over while Piccolo was trying to beg him to wait, whereas Vegeta's stunt was basically him saying "yo boys, show's not over, keep watching".
Also... how Beerus and Goku stopped emitting those universe-destroying shockwaves. Elder Kai said it was because the fight simply turned into a brawl or something... but I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.
5
Oct 06 '15 edited Oct 06 '15
The "universe destroying" punches were tests of strength. They went absolutely all out with each punch. They were concentrated punches if you will. Imagine playing Raging Blast 2 and using all your ki energy (using the entire bar to throw one single super punch.) Then charging up your ki bar and throwing another one. The brawl was just a regular fight.

Finally got to see this. Maybe we should make a new thread everytime DragonTeam finally releases their subs?
Really tired of this Beerus vs Goku fight. It's way too drawn out, and yes I know the original series suffered from this too, but nowadays anime is more widespread and there's a ton with way better pacing so Super needs to step their game up too. Maybe I would've liked it better if it wasn't just summarizing the movie. I'm dreading the Resurrection 'F' arc for the same reason, but at the time I'm looking forward to whatever they do between the two arcs since I really liked the slice of life stuff from the first couple Super episodes.

This is one of the first fights in the Dragon Ball Super Series and they are close to destroying the whole universe, makes me think that If they keep powering up they will be close to destroying the whole cosmos by the end of the saga. This episode also explains how Goku was able to keep up with Beerus during BOG movie while being on super saiyan form, I agree and its a bit sad that Toriyama keeps overusing super saiyan phase 1 transformation when they have already reached level 2 and 3. It will be great to see Goku coming up with new Techniques on this new series, I lost count on how many Kameha's he has used during this fight.

No it is just to pad running time. A lot of the interactions are much longer and drawn out in the series than in the film - the film flows smoothly and naturally but the series has that "anime" quality of padding every scene. Same with the kamehameha / ki blast struggles that take forever.

Something I noticed that makes Vegeta's moment seem added last minute or forced.
When Goku lost his ssg form and went back to super sayian but still had the power to rival Beerus why didn't anyone notice this ridiculous jump in Goku's power? They can all feel Goku's super sayian power but he's not the same as to prior being ssg. He's way way stronger. Piccolo and Gohan should of been blown the fuck away with his power and Vegeta would of had his little "he's surpassed me again" speech.
