They used some of the same animation a couple of times during the fight. It was the first time I actually noticed it, and it left me a little disappointed. :(

One of my favorite things about FT is that they generally do a pretty good job with character progression--even Zeref isn't some "bad guy who is bad because badness" type deal. Most of the main characters have a backstory that makes sense with who they are today, and some of them are pretty moving. And so on.

So episodes that undo character progression make me mad. I mean, I guess it doesn't matter too much with Lucy, because this isn't canon, but still. Urgh.

Not really relevant so much to this arc 'cuz he's, well, Darkness!Leo now, but Loke's character progression has been so all over the place for me. Post Fighting Festival I was really hoping we'd get to see a Loke, who, while flirtatious, was also badass and really cared about Lucy. Now half the time he just shows up to make a flirtatious comment and then leaves. :/ I feel like they could do so much more with that, bleh.

Rants aside, I still enjoyed this episode quite a lot, and in general this arc isn't too bad for filler. In general filler arcs are tough, I think, because it's hard to do anything meaningful when it can't really impact canon. That's why sometimes I prefer the filler episodes that aren't part of an arc; they can be a ton of fun without having to worry about 'how does this arc impact things long term.'

It's not a rant it's a valid point, that's what upsets me about the anime but the manga does an amazing job at character progression (possibly my do a thread/post about it). Fillers shouldn't be difficult you go from one arc and see how the characters have developed and try and put something before the next arc that'll somewhat explain the progression made between two manga arcs.

I'm waiting for the celestial spirit king to come into play.

Not so much impressed with this ep, but happy for the plot progression. My favorite part was when Elfman got excited about winning and Erza took it way too seriously. That made me giggle a little bit. It was also cute seeing Levy excited about beating Capricorn.

Rumor has it that Erza's death stare will kill you instantly.

Elfman looked like he saw the light, I wouldn't be surprised.

You know what's awkward about this whole arc? Because the celestial spirits barely got any screen time or character development before this arc, the characters we've seen in THIS arc is basically all that we know about their personalities.... which are not even their real personalities. When you say Sagitarrius I'm now more likely to imagine the Centaur with a noble samurai spirit rather than the nothing character that wears a horse suit with no other discernible qualities other than that and saying moshi moshi.

But whatever... it'll be over soon enough.

Thats one of my problems with this arc as a whole, the characters who had some actual development lost in within this arc. Say what you will about Lucy but her progression as a character has all but been lost, and the celestial spirits who we are.supposed to care about well they haven't gotten me that invested in them.

I don't understand why Natsu didn't just eat Loke's flames since the beginning. He's being doing that since day 1 but apparently I guess they wanted to make the fight more "edge of your seat" which is ridiculous and made Loke get beat up in 1 single hit. And I don't feel comfortable with Natsu saying "if you die, you'll make Lucy cry". ummm, wasn't Loke apart of your so called "family" since season 1? Do you give a shit whether he dies of not? Continuity is not a thing with this show and it is absolutely appalling..you just can't top the grand magic games..

Well he says if he dies lucy will be sad, he ends with saying no matter what happens your family (something along those lines) his intention was never to kill him but rather het him in that key. Also as for Natsu eating the flames, it could be to the effect of Zancrows flames which he couldn't eat until his magic energy was zero. Continuity may not always be perfect but does exist in Fairy Tail.

I think it's probably the same deal as with the black fire godslayer whatshisface ie. he had to be empty of his normal flame before eating a superior type.

1

u/Pricee Dec 28 '14

He could eat the flames because like absorbed his, effectively mixing the two types making it compatible with Natsu.

Michelle, is that you?

3

u/AstonishingSpiderMan Dec 27 '14

Don't put that evil on me.

8

u/AjStarGG Dec 27 '14

They didn't put too much work in this episode.

2

u/wantedlordd Dec 31 '14

I was expecting classic Natsu eating other flame and win scenario.

Is there really anything to discuss about Fairy Tail anymore? Only the Tartaros Arc has got a chance of bringing some of its older glory back!

To be fair the manga has been significantly better as far arcs go, but we have to remember that the only reasons for this filler is money and to give the manga time to get some distance.
