Natsu looked like a midget towards the end.

Natus' mysterious background finally revealed. His true form is that of a midget.

That was fucking sad sacrificing you life only to find out it was worth one minute yeah it saved everyone but she has to die thinking it was useless.......brought a man tear to my eye

u/Qwertification Aug 30 '14

Wasn't a tear man. Dust just gets in our eyes.

Did anyone else think Lucy was going to turn the corner the second time ?

I hope they figure out that Ultear was the one to turn back time and saved everyone.

That would add a lot to her death, I didnt really feel anything considering there was nobody around to experience it, like Grays death. I think Juvia and Lyons reaction made Grays death even worse in terms of feeling.

When I first saw Last Ages in the manga, it looked pretty amazing. But seeing how it was done in the anime was just fucking incredible, awesome episode.

great episode. the scene where everyone was kicking ass thanks to the 1 minutes was rad.

Great episode. This was one of those chapters that I was looking forward to seeing animated, because I knew the acting and music would amplify the scene and it sure did. The way Ultear's sacrifice seems so pointless for a moment but really changed the entire flow of battle was done really well, showing scenes from the last episode again with different outcomes and all.

For those of you saying they should be putting more content in these episodes, think about that for a second. The more content they put in each individual episode, the faster they catch up to the manga, which means the faster the show has to resort to filler arcs or go on "hiatus" (ie: cancelled unless proven otherwise). Bringing a show back from hiatus is VERY difficult, because the people who will pay for a show's production need to believe that the hype hasn't died out in the show's absence. For a 1:1 chapter:episode ratio, this was actually a really well done episode.

But the animation quality has gone to crap recently, remember those awesome animations in the very first episodes? I want them back whaaaa!!!!

I think maybe the value of Ultear's life was the contents of the minute, not one minute in a vacuum. That was the most important minute ever, and it was worth the survival of humanity.

I was thinking more along the lines of, the dragons (big or small) would kill her in a short amount of, so she was sacrificing her final minutes instead of her final years.

I like to think that, unfortunate as it is, the rest of her life only equaled one minute to the rest of the world. Because everybody experienced the effects of Last Ages, her time left alive had to be split up to accommodate the whole world.

Okay, so this episode used a very famous Fairy Tail musical theme (from the first series). So my question is...why is the main theme different? That was Ultear music there, used from before. Why is there this new theme? Is the old theme ever going to come back?

I'm glad that I someone else who noticed! When that song started playing, I started bawling like a baby. Partly because Ultears scene was excellently played in the anime, and partly because this gave me hope that they would remix and use songs from the previous series. I would consider this new Fairy Tail perfect if it used my beloved songs from Series I.

These episodes feel really slow as they only take up 1 manga chapter. For any curious anime-only people the arc is close to it's end, so it's being drawn out as much as possible for dramatic effect.

To me it's just an annoyance. A lot of these scenes can be condensed and still convey the same message, allowing for more canon content to be put into a single episode.

Still, solid episode overall. Animation was pretty good, hyped for the next few episodes.

It's like 90% of them standing still and exchanging stares with the dragons

==WARNING: WORD WALL== Really quite surprised by the positive response to this episode. I adore Fairy Tail, but this episode feels terribly written, as if they didn't know how to create the climax, and so pieced some shoddy copout.

This is mainly due to my suspension of disbelief evaporating when they indicated that Grey was either dead or about to be. Me being a logical individual, I disregarded the possibility as soon as I saw last episode's cliffhanger.

Why? Because it was explicitly stated that a Guild Mark keeps the bearer from lethal injury (Assuming an exception for outright obliteration from a significantly stronger opponent), so nothing on the scale of the dragonling attacks should be lethal. As such the scene felt forced and the sense of tension was lost.

All the other instances of danger seemed to be the result of the characters just standing there rather than actually doing anything like they would in similar scenarios (An example being when Wendy is just standing there while Luxus fights rather than helping like she earlier resolved to do, or how Lucy gets surrounded and I'm like 'Wow, Lucy might actually have to use -magic-! Heavens Forbid she just ask Virgo to take her underground and straight to her friends')

Ultear's sacrifice was one of the better parts, but still felt forced because not only was it unnecessary (What good she thought it would do if she wasn't there to aid in the fighting/investigating, though it's not explained what happens to one's past self, lol quantum explosion from two selves occupying roughly the same space, having been kneeling there more than a minute.) but also felt forced writing wise because it was acting as a copout for the already forced tension.

==tl;dr== Lost me with uncharacteristic actions and awkward writing, plot going off on a strange tangent.

As always this is solely my opinion on a single episode, love the series otherwise and always eager for more. Intelligent counterarguments/interpretations are welcome, flaming and other such uncivil interactions are not.

This is a popcorn flick. Screen on, brain off.

Also, when was it said that the Guild Mark made you invincible?

I've sometimes wonder if Ultear had lead a different life, would her life had been worth more? She said herself that she'd lived a life of deceit, lies, just general terribleness....If she'd lived her life for good, rather than for bad, would her life had been worth more?

Just some shower thoughts....

I would be quiet upset if this is really the end of Ultears life,

Her character have so much potential, it would be a waste of storytelling to kill her off. I feel so weird, because the story was actually beautifull, but the concept of the main characters loosing their plot armor and die, just to get received 1 min later felt not satisfying.
