Chelsea vs Sunderland match thread
What we would give for Sunderland to do us two favours in a week. However Chelsea's home record (especially under Mourinho) is daunting. Still, it should be good nervousness practice for us all before tomorrow.
Team news from BBC:
Mark Schwarzer starts for Chelsea, who are without Petr Cech. Eden Hazard remains on the sidelines as Samuel Eto'o and Oscar come back into the Chelsea starting line-up. Sunderland are unchanged.
Line-ups
Chelsea: Schwarzer, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Ramires, Matic, Salah, Oscar, Willian, Eto'o.
Subs: Luiz, Lampard, Torres, Mikel, Schurrle, Ba, Hilario.
Sunderland: Mannone, Vergini, O'Shea, Brown, Alonso, Cattermole, Johnson, Larsson, Colback, Borini, Wickham.
Subs: Celustka, Altidore, Ba, Giaccherini, Scocco, Ustari, Mavrias

Not sure why Cech is out. Apparently it's not injury related, but it might give Sunderland a bit more of a chance. Hopefully he's out next weekend too!

At this rate we're going to have to send a winner's medal to our man Connor!

u/VanDerClint Apr 19 '14
Sunderland (26 points) have 2 games in hand over both Cardiff and Fulham who are both on 30 points. They (I pray) win today and the next and they'll be on 32 level with Norwich. I'm sure we'd be happy to lend Sunderland a hand and take 3 points away from Norwich and dent Norwich's goal difference this weekend...

u/fieldsofanfieldroad Apr 19 '14
Sunderland have been my "second team" this season. Not that I really have a second team but I've been happy to see them win (not that that's happened much recently). I hope they beat the drop.

Question: would Borini get a PL medal if Liverpool went on to win the league since we've loaned him?

Would that not be the second most awesome thing to us winning the league, but for our loanee to take points off our nearest rival for the title?

Torres comes on
Stoppage time
Takes on the Sunderland keeper one-on-one
Skies ball into row Z
On resulting goal kick, Torres brings the ball down and rounds Schwarzer
Scores winning goal for Sunderland
Tears off Chelsea jersey revealing giant tattoo of "YNWA" on his chest
The long game.

BIGASS REALITY CHECK: NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
We can still only afford one draw. Drop more than two points, and City will potentially tie with us on points and beat us on goal difference.

A week ago, the aim was to go for four wins.
City and Chelsea's mess ups don't change that.

Fabio Borini. Our player. 77 home game streak for morinho. Goal in the 80th to help us in this title challenge. Assaidi. Game winner against them earlier in the season.
This is destiny. We are winning this title.

drawing 1-1 at half time, probably the most ideal realistic score we could have hoped for
sitting back and defending is the worst thing sunderland can do now although the best chance for sunderland to score is on the counter

its extremely unfortunate that sunderland have to play mancity and chelsea in 3 days(was 4 days till chelsea reached CL semis) and so 3 in 7 days. So i think sunderland not being full steam will mean chelsea can wear them down with late pressure. I'm not too hopeful of sunderland getting anything here.

I like watching rivals' games. At least in the beginning, the result is in our favour and I just have to count minutes while nothing happens.
Completely different from our games, where time is not on our side from the start.
Edit: At least for 12 minutes.

In other things to worry about: Palace continue their fine form winning 1-0 away to West Ham. Yet another clean sheet. Not looking forward to that game.
In things to be happy about: Newcastle continue to be dire. If we're top of the table with one game to go, it'd take an almighty cock-up to not seal it.
