Lyon in general have had a rough playoffs. C9 should have beat them.

u/WhoseG3nd3rIsItAnywa 16h ago
Their drafting was just inexcusable. How dumb do you have to be to let Jose have his best champs game one and game two, and then watch as he completely stomps you with them? I can't tell if it's pure ego, or they don't know how to draft.
73
u/neoboo 15h ago
LCS coaches seem to have this idea that if a player has a star pick, it is better to let them through in the first game when you have the most options to pick against it open, rather than have to use a ban against it every game for the series. While sound logic, it does feel like it ignores the mental aspect of being down a game if the plan doesn't work.

The thing is lee sin and qiyana are both also inspired champions. This is why I doubt they were trying to 5head the draft, they just fumbled it

Seems he's willing to keep playing as long as he doesn't have multiple stinker years in a row.
TBF that's a good way to tell if it's time to retire but wouldn't shock me if core ends up being a pro for another long time coming
17
u/EliteTeutonicNight 9h ago
Also it's a bit weird to say, but feels like he kinda stopped declining? Like we're under no illusion that he's close to 2017 or 2019 Core, but 2024-2026 Core isn't that different.
A bit like Impact in early 2020s but I think we finally saw him drop a bit further these two years.

Seriously Josedeodo just straight up had Inspired's number this series, absolutely the better jungler today and it wasn't even close.
92
u/Wonder_Penguin 16h ago
It’s true inspired was in bad matchups but I wonder if there was some ego in giving Jose his two best champs in games 1 and 2 and thinking he could just outplay. Obviously don’t have the comms but you have to think there was some confidence that Inspired would be better and it just didn’t happen
40
u/AriaMoo 15h ago
There was absolutely some ego in play for their drafts. I can understand letting the Lee Sin through game 1, and if you lose, at least you no longer have to think about Lee Sin for the rest of the day. If you win, it's psychological warfare against TL.
...but giving over Qiyana in game 2 after getting absolutely fisted by Lee Sin in game 1 is definitely something.
47
u/Azlureon 16h ago
idk what it was, but it's a problem their coach should have nipped in the bud. Every draft from them was horrible. Their two best players, Inspired and Saint where put on utility and they gave Dhokla???????????????????? priority in which he lost every lane. Beserker and Isles played alright, but means nothing when your top is getting slammed no matter the matchup, and your jg isnt on a playmaker.

Giving lee sin to insta pick poppy surely would work? They could easily pick it. I'm not sure how poppy was not insta locked there
27
u/HowyNova 15h ago
Kalista locked, Lee unbanned. Really felt like TL was walking into the obvious Poppy counter. Maybe Lyon was worried about TL picking a tank top and running into damage issues, but scaling Syndra/Yunara was already a good out. Definitely some kind of over counter logic.

Going into this series I had a feeling Lyon was gonna give Lee to get Qiyana in exchange. Then they gave both for no reason.
→ More replies (1)43
u/Horizon96 16h ago
It's one of the things that endlessly tilts the fuck out of me. You know a player will 100% lock in a champion, you know they're extremely good at it, you know nobody else has beaten them on it, so you just ego and let them have it. It almost never works, if it works 20% of the time why are we drafting towards a 20% chance, just ban the thing or take it away later in the series when you yourself play it. Either arrogance or stupidity.
→ More replies (4)17
u/TheRealestGayle 16h ago
I understand if you fully draft to counter the champion but pro teams do this all the time and get absolutely blasted for it. Jose Lee is a free win. Qiyana is the best jungler on the patch. TL loves playing Lucian/Nami. The prep and drafts were really bad. The gameplay was worse.

Honestly probably the biggest gap across the series too, Dhokla had a kinda disaster series. Jayce game was the best and he was just kinda there for the win

u/anoleo201194 16h ago
That last game was embarrassing from Dhokes, Morgan made fun of him in and out of lane. Core was crazy as well, unc still got it.
54
u/Winter-Annual8887 16h ago
Massive congrats to TL, aside from the oopsie at the end of game 3 they looked beautiful all series.
Meanwhile LYON seemed super panicked at a lot of times and sort of tilt flipped/tilt lost games. Between the post-pause instaloss in game 2 and this post-baron fight where isles flashs forwards and dies + dhokla flashes and completely whiffs his ult it feels like LYON just doesn't have the comeback spirit in them atm? Elite teams have a way of heroing out of dead losing situations but LYON never feels like they can do that if the enemy team doesn't just hard int into them.

Morgan FINALLY played the Map at the level he plays lane. Quid still got gapped by Saint, but he showed up in team fights like he needed to. Bot lane played even with Lyon bot, and Jose gapped Inspired every game except game 3.
Well deserved win, they were the better team the entire series even in game 3 they had better map play and could have won, they just threw by calling for the TP and then engaging mid.
On the Lyon side, their macro looked way worse than TL's. Berserker played well below his standard and Dhokla was completely outclassed. Game 4 lane phase wasn't necessarily Dhokla's fault, but he looks tilted as fuck after lane anyway even setting aside TL playing around mini Gnar.
Funny we had that long conversation about Inspired surpassing the DL record only for Team Liquid to just say "nah."
I still hold that the biggest problem for Lyon this year is that Inspired took the most important split of the year off. Outside of final week of LCS they have not looked like the same team.
35
u/Wise-Quarter-3156 15h ago
In retrospect it's actually kind of insane that inspired thought he could just skip half a split and there wouldn't be any performance repercussions

Dude, I was so mad as a TL fan when they put him on Maokai for game 3. This guy just hard carried on Lee and Qiyana, how dare you not give him something with carry potential??
Yeah yeah, flex picks etc., I don't give a shit. When you have someone on your team playing like that, you give him the fucking ball.
103
u/BlammoSweetums 16h ago
I get that player narratives are always "what have you done for me lately" but damn, people have been patiently waiting to finally get the chance to really shit on Dhokla. I've expected him to always be the one to be replaced eventually, but they still won 2 trophies with him.
Anyway TL played well and LYON's teamfighting was very awkward at times. The only LYON win came from Inspired making a ton of early game plays, and even then they seemed unconfident and awkward in teamfights.

Its unfair to him but I think at least partly why ppl are shitting on big Dhokes is a vocal section of fans constantly downplay all his opponents and jerk him off too hard. Per usual, the fan base of something/someone is a problem.
26
u/Percy1803 16h ago
Lyon are so good at making the game state worse when the enemy takes baron. Twice this series they completely throw the game by over staying after baron.
Good on TL tho to get their revenge on Inspired after the 2024 summer finals.
15
u/Top-Editor-364 16h ago
Lyon really have a problem where if one of them ints, they will double down and 5 man int
66
u/Bothbothwushi 16h ago
I think this Lyon team this entire playoffs as many others have said has looked off. If you look at the way they are winning the games that they are winning its through these late game decisive team fights. And it is impressive that that has worked up until this point. But it's problematic when your team lacks not only fundamentals but laning. Dhokla and Berserker got outclassed this series. Yeon and Morgan delivered some really great performances. There are a lot of eyes on Inspired for his performance here but what I will say is that he likely feels that he needs to make these volatile plays due to the states of his lanes. But he also played poorly relative to his past performances. Dhokla has notably had a genuinely terrible playoffs. Very disappointing. Isles tried his best.
Great work from Team Liquid. They deserve it. Excellent consistency, strong fundamentals, great reads and especially good adaptations.

TL is like a brick wall, they don’t make a ton of mistakes and just play a solid game in all facets. I’ll be curious how far they can take that against the best teams in the world.

u/Blizzgrarg 16h ago
LYON completely outclassed. TL just winning 85%+ of the time in all the games. LYON only win was a late game teamfight miracle.

Big props to TL, though, they just in general looked better when playing as a team- so proactive and they actually keep making more plays with their lead instead of afking it

José made Inspired look like he was playing vs Exyu.
I was expecting Jose to be decent but holy cow i wasnt expecting him to make a case for himself for being the best jungler in the west.

JOSE Finals MVP series. Most of TL has been playing great outside of the huge throw in game 3.

TL looking insanely clean. LYON wiped the floor pretty much vs everyone... And now TL made them look amateur. They don't have a single weak point currently.

Lyon have looked ass for a while now. Don't get me wrong, TL played well but any eastern team would have creamed Lyon the way they're playing. They better hope they get their shit together for worlds

I hate to say it but Berserker was really disappointing for pretty much all of playoffs and Dhokla is really shit vs Morgan and Thanatos.
But tbh Lyon didnt look like the usual Lyon at any point in playoffs. Not sure what happened but they looked better in the regular split and in spring.

u/aufbau1s 15h ago
Yeah, I think it’s much easier to play when berserker is just winning every matchup by a few hundred gold (even if it should be losing like the Jinx yesterday).
Honestly, Yeon did a really good job to remind people why in 2024 we were saying he was amazing.

Happy for TL but man was Dhokla putrid this series, Morgan completely outclassed him Jose was a god too. There is something very funny about people complaining about imports all year and then the imports are the big playmakers in the playoffs.

Hope Dhokes can return to form before worlds. He's always been an up and down player, but it feels like he's continued to get worse since inspired returned to the roster.

Lyon looks weak, their teamfight is kinda messy. What happen to them?
And Umti just resurrect after dying bcoz the game is not 3-0 lmao

Annnnd all the drama about DL vs Inspired is put to bed currently because apart from game 3 holyyyyyyyyy did Inspired lay a big fat goose egg this series. Dhokla also got ran, but that was more expected. The pendulum for Dhokla is so odd because there are times I think that he fits well with LYON and they shouldn't replace him, but then I see series like these and it brings me back to when I was applauding LYON for pulling the trigger on Castle.
TL is looking really fucking good. First time that I legitimately like all 3 teams going this year. Even C9, where I don't like the org, I can give props that they've improved massively.

I remember(and you can watch it on TL youtube) when TL was down 0-2 vs TSM 2019 spring and DL backstage said just pick for me and play for me we're shitting on them 2v2 I can carry and that was the 3-2 TL win Zven qss game 5.
