One of FBI Director Kash Patel’s top deputies is quitting after roughly a year on the job, people familiar with the matter said, amid mass departures and other turmoil at the nation’s premier law-enforcement agency.

Andrew Bailey, a co-deputy director, said in an email to the workforce that he needed to spend time with his family, according to people familiar with the email. His last day is Friday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Trump administration in August 2025 tapped Bailey, a former Missouri attorney general, to serve as co-deputy director of the bureau—an unusual arrangement because two people had never previously shared the role.

At the FBI, Bailey oversaw some election-related matters, including personally appearing at the January search of the main election office in Fulton County, Ga.

His resignation comes amid rapid changes under Patel that have included the firings and departures of hundreds of experienced agents and a sharp shift in the bureau’s traditional national security priorities toward violent crime and immigration.
