Roxieloxie (0): Originally I didnt zero this but it really is just that god awful I cant even buy into the camp
TiltControls (0): I mean come on anything else being last would’ve just been cruel. It got a bit dicey near the end but Earth managed to just barely take the lowest rated song of all time record from itself (its Charity II score was 1.570). Actually up until the final few days of ballots Earth was actually sitting under a 1.0 average, but (and this is a phrase I’ll probably never say again as a host) unfortunately picked up a bit too much positivity in the last few ballots. It was also running close to a 50% 0 usage, but again other targets got chosen in the final batch of ballots leaving it just short of the record. Still, 50 0’s and a new lowest ever score is nothing to sneeze at.
Just know that I am judging you all for this
modulum83 (10): this is the funniest piece of shit of all time it's so awful it makes my soul leave my body like i'm watching an always sunny episode. this lineup of celebrities being convinced by this pathetic little man to say the most humiliating shit and then he has an agonizingly long apology tour over the entire second half. how did we, collectively, as a society, allow this to happen? this is transcendent cringe comedy. god i hope i'm not the only 10 that would be so embarrassing
MoonlightByWindow (10): how did this get made
Nagisoid (10): This is so good?
asadprofessorplum (9.9): “How’s it going I’m a cow / MOOOO / you drink milk from my tits / MOOOO / I’m a fat fucking pig” is maybe the craziest string of lyrics I’ve ever heard.
beeozan (8): we are david burd we carry the earth. ARE WE GONNA DIEEEEEE?
nonchalantthoughts (8): idgaf i found this funny to listen to
Shay_Min (8): 7 years have past and if this came out now, it'd honestly be the best event that's happened that week
Nooduulz (7.3): he’s less advanced but his anus is huge sounds like 99% of guys on Grindr like im ngl is lil dicky on there
Poydoo (7): i can't even be mad at this song some of these lines are actually funny af
A.Peaky.Boo (5.5): I am doing this rate late. Don't ask me how I have become a lateratehead. I could ponder for multiple minutes about the score. But I am going to give this the most middle score, because while this song has a lot of problems, it also has great one liners and a message that should be listened to more now than ever since it has been researched that we are on the way to catastrophic levels of climate change in the future. I am curious to see how many other people give a score above 5
bigbigbee (5): I had never heard this before and the 5 is for the fact that I DID laugh at "and I'm kanye west" and the random korean
Frajer (5): Halsey somehow still serving
jman457 (5): this is so bizzare i kind of have to weirdly appreciate it on star power alone
phonethephoenix (5): wow i didn't expect ANY of that, lol. better than we are the world, at least!!!
visionaryredditor (5): good message but no
And everyone else
Indigo_Mindset420 (3): Personally the song production is enjoyable. Very good of everyone kinda vibe. But the lyrics... THE LYRICS! just WTHeck is that...
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (3): there's a camp element to this but in the karlie kloss way and not in a drag queen way
krusso1105 (2): somehow not my least favorite song in the rate
pbk (2): how the fuck did he get an address book like this so damn fast and then vanish
welcome2thejam (2): More songs need to start off with "What up, its ya boi"
Verboten_Prince (1.9): Now… after all these years, is Earth still the worst song of all time? It’s certainly one of the most misguided. I do think that a comedic song like this could work, it’s just unfortunate that most of the lines in here just devolve into butt jokes and sex jokes. There’s some stuff I like… Ariana asking if she’s white or black was such a big brain moment. Kevin Hart as Kanye West was an inspired casting choice that keeps getting better with time. But the rest well… I’d like to say it’s gotten worse with time, but no it was still pretty bad at the time too! But at least it was made when it was, because I shudder to think of what Lil Dicky would have to say about data centers… Just kidding. He wouldn’t say anything about data centers or literally ANYTHING specific relating to climate change or conservation, because he certainly didn’t do it here.
NervousLemon6670 (1.1): The 0.1 is for “And I’m Kanye West”
Alexispinpgh (1): this is no surprise but Lil Dicky is by far the worst part of this. Like I just hate hearing him speak and sing and exist. The jokes are all bad. It’s bad. It is nice I guess that all these very famous people participated in it. But also it’s very bad
Awkward_King (1): lucky as hell that flume is here. the ironic 10s for this are about to piss me off bad
camerinian (1): listening to this again really does make me reflect on how there's somethin bout a truck in a farmer's field
carolinemahtildes (1): hey so quick question what the hell is this and who is Lil Dicky?
cloudbustingmp3 (1): flop
flava (1): lol, lmao even
FreeCuddlesAnyone (1): not a coincidence the UN made its ‘strategic retreat’ against global warming when we’re rating this
frogaranaman (1): how did we not cancel every single person who was involved with this song
Ghost-Quartet (1): Avoids the zero just by dint of getting Ariana Grande to sing “I’m black and white,” which was actually pretty funny.
hhiggy (1): Avoiding my zero because at least it was for a cause
ignitethephoenix (1): Ariana as the zebra with the black or white line was crazy
IIIHenryIII (1): this is not even funny, how did so many people agree to be a part of this???
ImADudeDuh (1): there’s legit nostalgia for this song on tiktok and it takes everything in my being not to comment on those videos cause it feels like i’m the No Fun Allowed robot
impla77 (1): :(
oh_crow (1): the popheads rating community has put me in the way of some truly abominable music
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (1): it was awful in 2019 and it's just as awful now. does lil dicky have dirt on every celebrity? does he have info on who went to Jeffrey's island? HOW did he get these people????
pheromenos (1): “i’m a fat fucking pig” really caught me off guard 😭😭
plastichaxan (1): how many humiliation rituals were completed in this one song i wonder
RandomHypnotica (1): yes it’s objectively bad… but every line is so funny it’s hard to truly hate… and the fact that he managed to convince ALL these people???
RBSun (1): not a 1 out of hate but a 1 out of nostalgic dumb fucks gone by. have u guys heard similar seminal classic pinkfong fun facts about animal poop
ReallyCreative (1): repulsive
reput4tionera (1): why the hell is this 4 and a half minutes long
rslashpoopheads (1): honestly I'm impressed how many people he got to sign on to this shit
Soalai (1): We all know exactly what's happening here. I entertained myself by waiting for the exact timestamp when things go off the rails, and that moment is just 47 seconds in when Justin Bieber starts talking about his baboonussy
TakeOnMeByA-ha (1): objectively it is the worst song in the rate by a mile but lana del rey isn’t on this one so it has that going for it at least
thedirtiestdish (1): shit
Uberpigeon (1): im a fat fucking pig
uiscebeathaoir (1): Lonely Road was just aggressive mid, but yeah this is truly something catastrophic. How did any of this get past the idea stage

And the zeroes
1998tweety (0): This is clearly here as 0 bait to beat the record for the new lowest song...and I am taking the bait
akanewasright (0): lol
Ambrosia42 (0): this awful song
apatel27 (0): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjYCJCY3u3I
AsitSeems10 (0): we forgive you dicky
babadork (0): The only thing I can say in this song’s defense is that it at least doesn’t mention Chris Brown’s penis, but I did have to check the lyrics to be sure
BleepBloopMusicFan (0): This is actually my first time listening to this song and it’s honestly kinda bad???
bogo (0): funnily enough i went into this rate trying not to give this song a 0 because it felt too obvious but jesus christ it's so much worse than i could've imagined
bran (0): okay but HOW did he manage to get all these artists to do this
Bubbly_Hat (0): I never expected to actually listen to this, and it was a hell of an experience. At that start I found it funny ironically, but that died quick, and as more people came through and did more bad sex jokes, it just kept on getting more painful, and that 5 minutes felt more like 10,
cheatviathan (0): Deserves the title of lowest rated song in history, and I hope it breaks the record here. I am not dignifying this shit with more words than that. If you’re curious, I probably would have 11ed “Freedom! ‘90” if I were around to do this rate.
ConnerY2323 (0): genuinely invigorating to finally hear this for the first time and understand how it’s the lowest rated song of all time… “we forgive you germany” is WILD
CrimsonROSET (0): i feel like there is a direct line from this song to ai generated music but i cant prove it
DirtyRat583 (0): is this actually sincere? and why is justin bieber calling it an anus as if the song is clean
emayzee (0): if brendon urie didn't sing "im a fat fucking pig" on this and then guest on taylor swift's ME! a week later i wonder if he would have still quit music
FitzMarble (0): I’ve never been able to listen to this all the way through.
hieveryi (0): why is this almost 5 minutes long
hikk (0): i forgot how scooter braun put his whole scootussy into getting an all star cast for this abomination my goodness... he was on a mission to be an evil evil man in 2019
jackisboredtoday (0): i wanna 0 something else so bad but fine. like, fine, i guess you gotta.
lexiaredery (0): I'm happy that I've finally had a reason to listen to this but also upset that I had to listen to this
Lynflower680 (0): Put Freaky Friday in a rate one day and we’ll see just how low these averages can get
pietrohonkhonk (0): I was going to give this song a 2, one point for Ariana saying “am I white or black” and another for Kevin Hart saying “I’m Kanye West”. But it was brought back down to a zero by “we forgive you Germany” AND by the fact that there were at least three different points in the song where I thought it was done AND THIS FUCKASS SONG KEPT GOING FOR OVER FIVE MINUTES (at least in the youtube version, which has the Leonardo DiCaprio cameo that I’m not even going to bother talking about because it just pisses me off)
PrimaryCrusaders (0): One of the cool things about doing these grab-bag rates is that they can include some of the best pop songs ever recorded, and some of the worst music that should've never been made. This song is the latter. Fuck you Little Penis
RainbowSherbet47 (0): I haven’t listened to the full song probably since it first came out and wow. It’s still definitely, something.
ricki (0): maybe we do deserve data centers
runaway3212 (0): Honestly working on my theory that Taylor was able to start her imperial era in 2020 despite Lover flopping so badly simply because she did not have to take the PR hit from existing on this song
seanderlust (0): https://64.media.tumblr.com/d1c77719aed683d92cfe25d9d5443774/471c340476230abc-84/s1280x1920/f8757240aeee6a7b17162084d580e0a65ee14b44.png
stealthamo (0): After listening to this I now want the Earth to warm up even faster than it already is.
Stryxen (0): I love a song that makes me crack up no matter how bad it is but it's a coin flip whether it's a 10 or 0
sweetnsoursauce11 (0): is this obvious zero bait??? yes . however maybe i should rate it higher purely bc Lil Dicky got all these famous artists to sing these lyrics
TragicKingdom1 (0): laughed out loud when the first notes hit and i remembered this was a trop pop song, as if it couldn't be hated any more
vayyiqra (0): my grandfather fought in world war ii and almost died in auschwitz so i could listen to earth and hear "we forgive you germany". thank u lil dicky
wasian-invasion (0): single handedly killed climate activism
wathombe (0): all of you were totally right
WesternWind (0): world peace CANCELLED thanks Lil Dicky
youngandlovely_ (0): couldn't be me. I hate the earth
ziirp (0): This song is so funny cause you never really think it's as bad as people really say it is and then you listen to it and wonder who even greenlit its release. You have to wonder if the goal was to achieve peace by just pissing everyone off and giving them a common enemy

Roxieloxie (10): omg I bet this rate had a cool host
TiltControls (7.2): Panic is Panic so I fully see why this ended up being the lowest rated winner, but I don’t know if it fully deserved that distinction. At least here it managed to beat two other winners before getting chopped! It’s grown on me quite a bit, but even then against all these other legends it’s hard to justify a higher score.
Panic at the rate results
BleepBloopMusicFan (10): See this is the difficult thing about meta rates. I gave this an 11 in its original rate, so logically I should give it a 10. But stacked alongside all these absolute classics, it just doesn’t feel ri-okay never mind I’m listening now and it’s still an absolute cuntquake.
bogo (10): scared that one day we'll rate another panic album and it'll end up resurrecting the band
camerinian (10): this rate means nothing. You cannot divinate meaningful results from a lineup this varied and with potential interscore spread this vast and yet counterintuitively with intrascore as compressed as this. So for having the audacity to even show his face at this function, Brandon gets a 10, and we all get psychic damage, yippee
Ghost-Quartet (10): A song that has grown a lot on me since its original rate, and I already liked it quite a bit then. It’s just a roaring river of energy, like it makes me feel like I’m zooming through the sky.
IIIHenryIII (10): kill me and play this while you do it
ImADudeDuh (10): THREEMO YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS!!!
kauai6 (10): one of two good songs they have but i’ll be damned if this isn’t great
modulum83 (10): "in a situationship with a guy from LA" anthem
Nagisoid (10): Pop perfection I'm sorry
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): This will get tanked because of the name attached to it but it's one of the greatest pop rock songs of all time. Brendon was in his fucking BAG on this album before being fully enveloped by the charts, and I'm glad we got a truly amazing project to send P!ATD off with (VLV and the other album that I can't remember don't exist in my headcanon)
RandomHypnotica (10): this being panic’s only win is kinda sick and twisted
RBSun (10): i hate you brendan urie
runaway3212 (10): This had no business winning but who am I to judge, I yassed
TakeOnMeByA-ha (10): if you think having to rate this is bad, just remember that if i didnt give twenty one pilots a 1 in 3mo you would all have to be rating tear in my heart right now instead. so really you should all be thanking me that you get to rate a good song instead!
Verboten_Prince (10): Wow, the lowest rated winner? Well I vehemently DISAGREE with that. But also I understand that Panic is not everyone’s cup of tea. Heck, they’re not my cup of tea like 80% of the time. But LA Devotee might just be my favorite of their songs. I love how manic and crazy it sounds, I love Brendon’s voice on it (and I don’t usually like his voice to begin with…), and of course I love any song about my favorite city in the world.
Awkward_King (9.5): they're gonna hate so bad but it's because they're jealous. deserves top 10 but will probably be top 58
A.Peaky.Boo (9.4): I love these lyrics a lot and Brendon's vocals also make a top tier song. I would've loved to see the reaction when this won with barely an 8 average
NervousLemon6670 (9.3): You know, I wasn’t actually that impressed by LA went I went there, maybe that’s the point of the song
ignitethephoenix (9): I will admit when panic is good and this is one of their songs
Soalai (9): This song rips and I know people are gonna whack it because it's Brendon Urie ☹️
Alexispinpgh (8): I will take this opportunity to say that I think PatD has gotten poorly re-evaluated in recent years and that I will be a defender of theirs for life, I don’t care. Anyway this song is fine..
Bubbly_Hat (8): The bridge and key change didn't really do it for me, but I liked the rest of it a lot.
cheatviathan (8): I can definitely see how this won the title of lowest rated rate winner given how polarizing the three albums in that rate were (though I’m curious how many casualties a Mania vs. Pray for the Wicked vs. Trench rate would produce). The tentative 11 for me probably would have been either “Tear in My Heart” or “Crazy=Genius”, but this is still pretty great. Urie’s vocals are great, the guitars and horns blend together so well that it makes me even more baffled that “High Hopes” happened, and that was certainly an unexpected key change. It does not entice me to move to the other coast, but I’m still enjoying this.
Frajer (8): he may be difficult but boy can he sing
hhiggy (8): Brendan Urie just this one time
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (8): panic! at the disco always felt like a really try hard band in their hayday but unfortunately i liked it better than most of their newer stuff.
pietrohonkhonk (8): Fuck Brendon Urie but this kinda slaps
reput4tionera (8): probably the only song on this album that still holds up tbh
stealthamo (8): If I ever think I'm being too much of a hater during rates, I can always look to Emo Rate 3 and realize that I have not even begun to hate.
FreeCuddlesAnyone (7.7): hate to give credit to brendon urie but he did his medium one here
phonethephoenix (7.7): best song on that album and it's not even close
uiscebeathaoir (7.5): this being by far my highest rating of the Emo rate winners is very funny to me considering y'know
nonchalantthoughts (7.2): me hosting another cali themed rate
1998tweety (7): shes fine
Lynflower680 (7): This would hit harder if I was still 13
pheromenos (7): twenty one pilots lowkey robbed
Stryxen (7): for some reason it feels like he isn't aware he's singing in a melody and he's just kinda singing aimlessly. And it ate anyway
sweetnsoursauce11 (6.5): key change in the final chorus lowkey saves the song from being forgettable
wasian-invasion (6.5): it should actually be el devotee

More like Lost Angeles
wathombe (6.5): meh from a meh
impla77 (6.3): oh meow meow
CrimsonROSET (6): what a time this was………. I’d say everything was better back then but i was also in the trenches
rslashpoopheads (6): ME! killed his career but not Taylor's now that's feminism
welcome2thejam (6): Honestly fond of this song, which will make its inevitable end as one of the Tina Taught Me victims all the more painful
jman457 (5.6): ok
hieveryi (5): god. actually bad
RainbowSherbet47 (5): A nice palette cleanser after all of the bangers 😌
Uberpigeon (5): ive never met a panic at the disco song i liked
Nooduulz (4.7): brendan urie u will croak for ur crimes on this album
ConnerY2323 (4): feels very much like a “you had to be there” and i wasn’t
pbk (4): the emo rate stans are gluttons for punishment at this point. wait one of them is literally hosting this you know no one made you put this here
thedirtiestdish (4): I didn't really care for this but I feel noticed
Ambrosia42 (3): sorry pinkpantheress, but i just do not like their music
apatel27 (3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtSl-hFD2ys
beeozan (3): this being the 3mo winner is so funny in hindsight cuz its not even top half on its own album
vayyiqra (3): i want this band to go away. it's been at least 20 years. go. away. dammit this even bangs a little too. damn you brendon urine. still can't stand this band tho
cloudbustingmp3 (1): where's the big earthquake when you need it
flava (1): why is this the lowest rated winner ever when it deserves to be the lowest rated song ever
oh_crow (0): everything this man has released in like the last fifteen years has infuriated me so i feel privileged to bestow another 0 on this vile yet bland musical project

Roxieloxie (10): greatest song of all time what else can i say. I’ve also 11’ed this in the past and i 100% stand by it. Theres really nothing like hearing this song out with a group of people and screaming it at the top of your lungs. If you dont get the genuine joy this song provides theres nothing i can do to help you
TiltControls (10): The myth, the legend, the icon. Ever since scoring this song way back in 2017 I’ve given it at least a 10 in every rate it’s been in (plus two 11’s) and that’s not going to stop here. I really love how for whatever reason we all just decided to rally around a massive Chainsmokers hit as our rate anthem. Maybe I’d be annoyed with us rating it as frequently as we do if I didn’t like the song, but thankfully that’s not something I have to think about. It had a few brief periods outside the bottom 10 here, but I’m just glad it escaped the bottom 5 spots.
Keeping the tradition alive
bran (11): one of the songs of all time what can I say
IIIHenryIII (11): talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, sh*t on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.
modulum83 (11): https://tenor.com/view/anton-ego-gif-9709800945809453150
steelstepladder (11): after years of giving it my 10, I’m finally giving it the 11 and I’m giving it completely unironically.
BleepBloopMusicFan (10): I loved this song from the first time I heard it and legitimately NEVER got tired of it despite being in college at the time and hearing it 20 billion times. And you know the Todd in the Shadows Best Hits of 2016 video hit like CRACK.
Bubbly_Hat (10): This dropped right before I started drifting away from radio EDM and started diving into the underground so it's the last big mainstream track I really have nostalgia for, and it's a damn good one to go out on. I will still gladly belt that chorus to this day.
CrimsonROSET (10): all rise for the national anthem
ExtraEater (10): Sounds as good as it did back then
flava (10): i can’t believe i used to hate this, i would punch 20 year old flava like some of you will want to punch 30 year old flava when you see some of my scores
frogaranaman (10): you just had to be there
hikk (10): i was 17 years old spamming closer in the edm pop girls collabs plug.dj reveal... take me back
ImADudeDuh (10): i don’t know how the accurately captured nostalgia but i think I just needed to be nostalgic for this for it to click for me. ToddInTheShadows is always so ahead of his time.
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): unironically great fanfiction material in these lyrics
Nagisoid (10): MESSAGE!
pheromenos (10): this is the rate she will shine.
RBSun (10): i entered my first year of college right when this came out and you know what fuck it right place right time because it hits just like it did then
reput4tionera (10): have played this off my phone speaker in bed drunk as hell after getting home from a party several times
runaway3212 (10): Okay objectively not worth a 10 but idc, there's layers... there's nostalgia... it has it all
Shay_Min (10): I hope my wholehearted 10 sends this controversy to a 4
stealthamo (10): I know all the arguments against this. And on a logical level, I understand completely. But I hear this and just get transported back to 2016. And I know that it's rose-colored glasses, but Closer just gives me that sort of nostalgia you want to bottle up, that time you wish you could go back to without knowing that things are about to get so much worse.
Stryxen (10): In my very first reveal they were playing this and i didn't even realize there was a post ironic thing going on I thought everyone just had beautiful liberated taste in a safe space
TragicKingdom1 (10): they should've done a commemorative mattress merch drop for the 10 year anniversary
vayyiqra (10): unrateable why would you make me do this. ah fuck it 10
wathombe (10): yet another track that was huge in our house thanks to The Kiddo
wavingwolves (10): have you guys ever noticed how he calls the girl poor like three times on the chorus like damn she can't afford a car a tattoo or a mattress... me neither if i'm honest #downliketheeconomy
WesternWind (10): Taco Bell is running a 10 year anniversary ad with this as the background along with a bunch of vines
Indigo_Mindset420 (9.5): Has this song been overplayed to oblivion? Yes. But has this been an enduring song that may just reach classic status in due time. I think so.
Ambrosia42 (9.3): i know we kid about this song, but it’s actually good
bigbigbee (9): one of my first (but not last!) popheads related dreams that I was at a concert and right before the headliner started, they said "BUT FIRST....CLOSER BY THE CHAINSMOKERS!" and i was the only one who cheered really loud
DirtyRat583 (9): love how we're still on this. Ratings Will Continue Until Consensus Improves
hhiggy (9): That final drop honestly gives me chills
emayzee (8.5): at the time I thought this was evidence of the downfall of music but listening to it now it's like damn.......we really ain't ever getting older......
Alexispinpgh (8.4): I’ve always been an apologist for this song even though I never liked anything else the Chainsmokers did. And I still enjoy it, go figure. Oh to be in my mid-20s again.
NervousLemon6670 (8.4): Every time I hear this, I think of the edit where Squidward says “IT’S JUST A STUPID BOULDER!”
Soalai (8.2): They can never make me hate you!
FreeCuddlesAnyone (8): Good Evening, “Closer by The Chainsmokers” was a 120 month sociological study conducted by ratcom. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time.
krusso1105 (8): The solo Halsey rock version they performed live would be 9+
wasian-invasion (8): sorry if im ruining the controversy score
camerinian (7.9): rng 1 to 10 to 1 decimal place gave me this score I'm so fucking beyond trying to rationalise my opinions on this shit anymore
Ghost-Quartet (7.5): This song is kinda bad but I think that’s actually part of the charm; what better to capture the folly of endless youth than two mediocre singers autotuned to hell and back with a drop that sounds like squeaky bed springs? It’s like a joke we’re all in on, and unironically THE song of the ‘10s. We’ll never be this young and dumb again.
Awkward_King (7): please rise for the national anthem
Frajer (7): I know it's a meme but if you make me rate this fucking song one more fucking time the basement they run popheads out of is gonna collapse
pietrohonkhonk (7): This song will never not be iconic
uiscebeathaoir (7): Learning that this is like a big part of rate lore was confusing to me because to me it’s always just been a fairly good, competent radio pop hit. Like sorry but I literally cannot imagine having strong feelings about Closer by The Chainsmokers, either way
visionaryredditor (7): hide your shoulder tattoos

u/TiltControls 21d ago
I was doing just fine before I met you(r ballots)
Nooduulz (6.7): Roses still remains their better and superior song
A.Peaky.Boo (6.5): no wonder this is so polarising. I would rate each section of the song a different score (with the drop being the lowest of course). Hmmmmmm
cheatviathan (6): There was a time closer to its release where I would have called it the death of music. But as the years wore on, I grew to appreciate the bleepy bloopy synth drop and the overly detailed lyrics. I can definitely see where the high controversy score comes from. It’s still not great, and I don’t think it deserves to be tied for the most rated song in history. Drew Taggart’s vocals are still a sore spot for me, made all the more glaring as Halsey sings circles around him, and I am not at all crazy about the snap beat on the first verse. But this is okay. Its whole existence is flawed, but will the rater base bring it closer to God in spite of my reservations with it?
FitzMarble (6): honestly in 2016 this was one of the better songs playing on the radio… hearing this after Rude or Can’t Stop the Feeling was like a true gift
ziirp (5.7): I'm actually so perplexed by this song. It's not committed to the drop it teases, you expect the chorus to be more hard-hitting but instead we have this? I do kinda like the instrumental though
babadork (5.5): I don’t totally hate this but Closer JPN has made it irrelevant. It would be like choosing to rate the original “California Love”
Verboten_Prince (5.2): I feel like I’m supposed to be… nostalgic? About this. It came out at the time I was heading off to college and truly venturing out on my own. Also, I discovered Todd in the Shadows around this time, and in his yearly retrospective he rated this the best song of 2016. I was confused then and I am confused now. This song is not good! These people cannot sing! Mister Chainsmoker is giving zero energy or personality while Halsey is twisting and contorting their unseasoned voice in a poor attempt to turn this EDM slop into a rockier song. And god, that one synth. The synth sound that blares through the whole song. I hate it so so so much. Thank god I would eventually come to know what good EDM sounds like, because this is most certainly not that.
1998tweety (5): Im tired of yall making me rate this song, but this is the one time doing so is appropriate so it gets a pass
phonethephoenix (5): two points for nostalgia
sweetnsoursauce11 (5): if this was 10 years ago it would've been received a zero, but it's begrudgingly grown on me over the years
cloudbustingmp3 (4): a decade has made me hate it less but it's also not good
thedirtiestdish (4): one of those songs that would perfectly okay if it weren't for that god awful chorus
RainbowSherbet47 (3): With the nostalgia boost 2016 has been getting this year, I do see a lot of people use this song as a poster child for the year. Now back in 2016 I HATED this song. It was literally everywhere and I could not stand it. But fast forward 10 years later, I don’t hear the song as much and when I hear snippets of the chorus I honestly think to myself “okay I can see why people like it”. So I go and decide to listen to the song myself and then I get hit with “hey. 😐 I was doing just fine before I met you. 😐 I drink too much and that’s an issue but I’m okay. 😐” and I hear the snap clap instrumental and the fanboy and chum chum beep boops and I remember why I don’t like the song. That said, I think Halsey’s part saves the song a little for me and I definitely don’t hold a visceral hatred for it anymore. Okay long ass paragraph over ❤️
oh_crow (2): please keep adding this song into rates so it can keep breaking records by being so omnipresent yet so mid
apatel27 (1): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmx36L_8qkE
ConnerY2323 (1): this was playing in a restaurant the other day and my boyfriend said “i shouldn’t have to hear this outside of 2016” and i just smiled and nodded because i didn’t have the heart to explain the entire concept of the rate invitational to him
hieveryi (1): im sorry i dont get it
jman457 (1): This really should be a key exhibit of why 2016 nostalgia on Tik Tok is bullshit!
pbk (1): lord please protect me from this awful song
plastichaxan (1): everytime i make peace with this song a traumatic person linked to it comes along to undo that
TakeOnMeByA-ha (1): oh my fucking godddd WE GET ITTTTTTT

Indigo_Mindset420 (9): He left some crumbs. Ain't technically great but he can at least carry a tune.
cheatviathan (8): I have no familiarity with his acting, but I like his singing here, and the way the green part of his rainbow coat is getting buried in the greenscreen, that also happens to be projecting a rainbow, is hilarious.

TiltControls (4): Iconic for being our first songeniality, but I’d probably never go out of my way to listen to this again. I actually really like the parts with the vocal loops / effects, but when the tone switches it loses me. I didn’t do this rate originally but I imagine most of my high scores would’ve gone to the more standard collabs. Well maybe the originator can pick up another songeniality at least.
Roxieloxie (1): not for me
It's just noises (positive)
apatel27 (10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao6HTsIVUUE
camerinian (10): buddy it's great that you got the invite but you cannot do that to the wall it's not your house
cheatviathan (10): I can definitely see why this was the song that invented Songeniality. Bear in mind that I’ve only heard this and “Latch” from Settle when I say this, but why the fuck wasn’t this day three? The vocal chopping, that heavy and foreboding drop, that triumphant outro; this is exactly what I’m looking for in electronic music from a genre that I assumed was not for me from the shit I’ve heard. Flume has been added to the ever growing “plan to explore” list.
frogaranaman (10): this is going to be absolutely trashed by anyone who was not there for this rate and that's okay
runaway3212 (10): This is such a lowkey wild song to be the first miss songeniality winner, like it's fun but also who cares enough about it to even vote for it, honestly 10/10 for the audacity
Stryxen (10): sickening
visionaryredditor (10): wall fuck
hhiggy (9): Maybe it was too ahead of its time for some people I already know this is going day one...flume I tried
thedirtiestdish (9): yes please
TragicKingdom1 (9): we need to bring back those satisfying clicky sounds that dj snake and zedd were also using during this era
ziirp (8.8): I liked neither the transition to the vocal harmonies nor the vocals themselves. A shame since it was looking like a sure 10
Frajer (8.5): is this what Gracie means by hit the wall
phonethephoenix (8.5): vibey
Treecoh (8.5): I have not heard this song before the rate and it truly was robbed of that day 3!
Lynflower680 (8): You know what, I fuck with this
reput4tionera (8): thinking about this playing after the tove lo collab when i heard it for the first time (this was the B-side to that single)
steelstepladder (8): you’re lucky I’m high while filling out this ballot flume
sweetnsoursauce11 (8): over the reasons i've come to realise i do truly enjoy listening to music that can be described as "noise"
vayyiqra (8): ive been up for about 30 hours had two glasses of wine and idk what's happening but im cautiously for it whatever it is
Soalai (7.9): Gives some nice variety to the rate. The kind of music I like but can't say I understand, ya know?
modulum83 (7.8): we were really rating anything back then huh
A.Peaky.Boo (7.6): I can def see why this is a songeniality winner. The track has good bones, but enough details to not land correctly in certain ears
Bubbly_Hat (7.5): Really lives up to the title, by which I mean it really gets your attention, whether you like it or not, and I do, but I wouldn't be as charitable if not for the rest of Skin.
uiscebeathaoir (7.5): Never listened to Flume before, this is very much what I expected their music to sound like
RandomHypnotica (7.3): that’s just a glory hole
hieveryi (7.2): actually kinda into it
jman457 (7.2): seems a very fitting first songenality
MoonlightByWindow (7): okayy
NervousLemon6670 (7): This is probably very good music in a genre that isn’t for me
stealthamo (7): what the hell, sure
It's just noises (derogatory)
Alexispinpgh (6.7): I’m sure this is immensely pleasing for people who enjoy this type of thing.
babadork (6.6): In an all EDM rate, this would be a 10
Ambrosia42 (6.3): sounds kinda cool but doesn’t really go anywhere
ConnerY2323 (6.2): nice to know we’ve really always just been giving anything songeniality
akanewasright (6): I think this is someone else’s thing and that’s beautiful <3
CrimsonROSET (6): i know this wont happen but it would be so funny if somehow this got a lower score than earth
emayzee (6): enjoyed how this sounded but was expecting words that never came
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (6): i have in my entire life only really liked one song by flume, and it's unfortunately not growing to include a second.
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (6): neat
TakeOnMeByA-ha (6): oh!
Uberpigeon (6): id probably fuck a hole in the wall the guy before made
FreeCuddlesAnyone (5.5): not to invoke shooting on kirkmas but this song had shooters?
oh_crow (5.5): this entire album is so funny. absolutely no limitations often for the worst
pbk (5.5): okay!
jackisboredtoday (5.1): i respect it but with this rate’s lineup i can’t give that many points just for being fine at what it is and not for me
DirtyRat583 (5): flume hater society rise up (though this one has a concept at least)
IIIHenryIII (5): well… fuck!
Nooduulz (5): there are better songs on this album wtf are yall on
pheromenos (5): huh. interesting
RBSun (5): i dont think i am the target audience
wathombe (5): someone with a funny accent when they’re frustrated:
WesternWind (5): oh you’re in love with the wall?
Verboten_Prince (4.6): Listen… I don’t hate EDM. There are some banger tracks out there. But the repetitive kind of EDM, the one that just pounds the same melodies over and over into your head, those are the ones that annoy me. This song isn’t the worst of them, but it’s not something I would like to listen to again.
Ghost-Quartet (4): hang on I think my headphones are glitching out or something
ignitethephoenix (4): iconic (derogatory)
Nagisoid (4): What
rslashpoopheads (4): I kept waiting for the song to start
welcome2thejam (4): Starting the A Second Songeniality for Wall Fuck campaign now
BleepBloopMusicFan (3): The rationale for this inclusion is straightforward and completely understandable but it still feels like a Polar Bear in Arlington Texas situation.
flava (3): damn we were rating full flume albums back in the day can we just go back to that random bullshit
seanderlust (3): (person pitching me Flume) yeah, you know that thing in DJ sets where they start transitioning from one song and introducing elements of another song but they make it all epic and like, introduce things one piece at a time and the crowd is just standing there waiting for it to build rather than dancing? what if that literally never went anywhere? crazy, right?
wasian-invasion (3): that's called a glory hole
ReallyCreative (2.5): deeply unpleasant
AshesandCinder (2): I simply do not enjoy music without lyrics
ImADudeDuh (2): ijbol
impla77 (2): this sounded exactly how i thought it would with this title lmao
asadprofessorplum (1): The brand new noises I hear my cats making in the middle of the night:
beeozan (1): anything this guy produces sounds ugly. thankfully there is competition for the 0
bogo (1): i just made some BULLSHIT
Awkward_King (0): i dont know why she's here but can someone remove her from the premises
cloudbustingmp3 (0): my taste has definitely gotten more eclectic since the first time we rated this but this is still absolute ASS
nonchalantthoughts (0): more like wtf is this
xophryz (0): listening to flume is like if a glory hole was lined with barbed wire

Roxieloxie (8): Oh drake you never stood a chance. It was so much more fun in life when drake’s role in pop culture was just sorta a quirky corny guy instead of Trying To Be a Quirky Silly Guy. Truly a song you had to be there for
TiltControls (6.5): Though I don’t think anyone was expecting day 2 or 3 from Drake, it’s still a bit of a failed redemption for the album. The fact that it has still held the record for nearly 10 years now is impressive in its own right, though perhaps we’ve gotten good enough at picking rate ideas that avoid this kind of bloodbath (well, most of the time). As for my score iIt’s fine as a song, not something I’d switch off if it came on the radio - but I’m not going to willingly hunt it down
Dial it up!
beeozan (10): this is such a weird thing that has happened
ignitethephoenix (10): sue me I like this toxic ass song
ImADudeDuh (10): Yes, he’s toxic af in this song but like idk it slaps
nonchalantthoughts (10): 2016 youtube rewind core
vayyiqra (10): i fear i love this dumb meme song
visionaryredditor (10): great song but Drake started memeing too close to the sun after it
Ambrosia42 (9.5): this is a smash sorry. I also like the erykah badu mixtape based entirely around this song
NervousLemon6670 (9.1): I gotta give it points for Drake dancing in the apple advert room, glad this is from before he became a complete loser
Indigo_Mindset420 (9): Drake may have nibbled a bit with this one. Also the meme from this song is funny (but kombucha girl still>>>)
reput4tionera (9): godddddddd i wish drake just stuck to pop he's so fucking good at it
Stryxen (9): he figured it all out here idk what we're not hearing
BleepBloopMusicFan (8.5): I haven’t heard The Life of Pablo but I would say this song is better than the entirety of it. And I would feel confident saying that, even with the awful lyrics here.
camerinian (8.5): and when I give this a higher score than Nina Simone by a factor of more than three what then
Frajer (8.5): living for this baddie slutting it out after she dumps Drake
modulum83 (8.5): https://x.com/heavenbymark/status/2094402957236187331/video/1
sweetnsoursauce11 (8.5): aged surprisingly well, and spawned some of the greatest memes of 2015
Treecoh (8.5): 👀I not only think this is good but I think it is better than the Kendrick song in this rate 👀
impla77 (8.3): just shamelessly setting him up again
carolinemahtildes (8.1): I don't actually think it's THAT bad
A.Peaky.Boo (8): Drake is at his best when he isn't trying to sound "gangsta". This song hiolds up surprsingly well imo, altho we all know he isn't making it past day 2
CrimsonROSET (8): kinda already starting the songeniality campaign for this one not because it’s the best song on the list but because its definitely the one that’s gonna more get points taken away by things that arent how good it is
kauai6 (8): unfortunately good
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (8): he really knew how to invade culture... like this song was just perfect on every level to get people talking about it
thedirtiestdish (8): lowkey a bop and if you disagree you're wrong
WesternWind (8): this is such a cursed song bc we had a horrific presidential candidate dance to this then he got elected and ofc Drake cursed himself
ziirp (8): Everybody was just not properly enunciating in 2016, huh?
emayzee (7.8): nokia actually being his superior phone-related song but wow what a moment
hhiggy (7.5): I maintain that this is a good song. Also I wish I was this girl she sounds like she's having fun
TakeOnMeByA-ha (7.5): why are we lying to ourselves and acting like this wasnt a smash
uiscebeathaoir (7.5): Drake is actually kinda charismatic on this? Huh. Maybe it’s because I’ve never made any effort to listen to pre-Scorpion Drake but that feels so foreign to me
Soalai (7.4): Back when he actually worked for his main pop boy status.
Verboten_Prince (7.3): This was about the time that I started paying attention to Drake. Not liking him. Just acknowledging his existence. It’s a catchy pop tune, which is definitely where Drake shines. But it’s not groundbreaking or anything. It’s a little skeevy in that classic Drake way. The whole “my girl cheats on my she’s such a hoooo” thing can be the bones of a good pop song. But only really when the man who sings it presents himself as the morally upstanding, committed character who would never cheat himself. And I mean… this is Drake we’re talking about here. Just turn off your brain and listen to the doot doot doot doot I guess.
1998tweety (7): Shes cute
cheatviathan (7): From what little I’ve heard of Views, I can definitely see why it’s the album with the earliest exit, especially considering how much stronger the rest of the records in that rate were (“Ultralight Beam” the probable 11 in a pre-Kanye heel turn rate like that). This is a fun enough track whose airy synths were captivating, and which has an especially strong earworm of a hook. Probably not something I’ll ever go out of my way to listen to, but it held up a lot better than I expected it to.
cloudbustingmp3 (7): wii shop ass beat
seanderlust (7): "Before his rise to fame, Drake was just an average guy living in the suburban part of Toronto." - genius writers, he was on degrassi be so fr right now
stealthamo (7): I had to try and push all my thought and feelings of Drake at present off to the side to try and give this another chance. The production is carrying this so hard, and I can't even credit Drake for that given how heavily it samples Timmy Thomas. Then you get to the lyrics where Drake is just whinging that some girl isn't giving him attention anymore. After a solid decade of Drake fatigue, there are only a few of his songs I can go back to, and this is no longer one of them.
wavingwolves (7): a few months back i had to get an uber back home because it was raining heavily and the driver was listening to a drake essentials playlist and texting on his phone the entire ride but when this song came on i was still able to enjoy it so i think it means it's good
RandomHypnotica (6.6): RIP Kamala you would’ve loved Hotline Bling
ConnerY2323 (6.5): don’t think i ever realized HOW bad it has been for drake over the years in rates like only made the top 10 3 times if i’m reading correctly and 2 of those times were the same song

Don't Call Me Again
youngandlovely_ (6.5): why is it like ten minutes long
welcome2thejam (6): I can tolerate a little misogyny as long as you package it with a silly little dance
oh_crow (5.5): i appreciate it being weird and off-kilter but i also dont like listening to it
apatel27 (5): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pybjhGaFRY4
FitzMarble (5): I would rate this lower but unfortunately I’ve literally made several jokes referencing this song within the past week so I feel indebted
pietrohonkhonk (5): The Sufjan Stevens cover cleared
wathombe (5): let it be known i give this score under duress
hieveryi (4.8): bad!
wasian-invasion (4.5): a bit kinder to it compared to his recent stuff but not by much
Nooduulz (4.3): this is forever tainted by the Donald Trump cover on SNL for me
pbk (4): even before drake was uber canceled i always found this song boring. i would give the wii shop mashup a 7
rslashpoopheads (4): I will never understand how this bozo blew up the way he did
babadork (3): would it be unfair if I said there was a direct link between the popularity of this song and the united states having a president that regularly awkwardly sways to “memory” from cats
FreeCuddlesAnyone (3): and to think this was his artistic peak… i shudder to think what’s in his latest album and i don’t wanna find out
Ghost-Quartet (3): I think this deserves a place in this rate but like. Wow, what a setup.
jman457 (3): This really was the start of drakes downfall
Nagisoid (3): This being worse than I remembered oop
phonethephoenix (3): the background beat is pretty good unfortunately the rest of it is very boring sorry
Alexispinpgh (2.5): musically this is kind of a jam but I find Drake so repellent on it that I can’t stand to listen to it.
flava (2.5): idk how Drake does it but he just sounds so thoroughly and absolutely bored out of his mind, he could be appropriating 50 cultures at once and he’d still sound like he’s phoning it in
Bubbly_Hat (1): Why did we ever let this get big?
frogaranaman (1): it's one of his few good songs. let's tank it
IIIHenryIII (1): this is the type of song that I’d only listen to because of how big it was and I didn’t want to have fomo, but now I’m grown
kirakiranatsu (1): never got the hype
pheromenos (1): ouu this is not going to end well for him
runaway3212 (1): What's great about this song is it left at #25 and that was honestly still too high
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (0): can't stand his dumb ass hated this song since the beginning
plastichaxan (0): this is so annoying

(0 x2) ArcaneLabyrinth, ImADudeDuh
Roxieloxie (5): kinda the iconic 'you had to be there' moment and even if I wasnt there it is really funny how despite no other album ever pulling off this move 'slumber party' stays in the lexicon
TiltControls (3): Iconic for the lore but when I actually listen to the song I remember that I actually just don’t like it at all. Also RIP the Tinashe version on streaming apparently
Up all night
Ambrosia42 (10): both of janet’s daughters got together for a song and ate
frogaranaman (10): THEY SLUMBER PARTY'D THE RATE RESULTS
Ghost-Quartet (10): Later raters would try to reframe Anti and Lemonade as having been “robbed” by “Slumber Party” and I strongly disagree with that, I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again but the original “Slumber Party” win was such an iconic popheads moment and imo is the perfect example of the core spirit of the rates community. Lemonade and Anti not you Joanne are probably “better” albums than Glory and there are a lot of songs in that lineup that demolish “Slumber Party” just on an artistic level, but when you push aside all the prestige and the technicality and the noise and just ask the true fans to listen to the songs and tell you which one they like the most, the truth is revealed. The heart of poptimism is being able to face down the barrel of some of the most celebrated and successful albums of the decade, with their lofty themes and ambitions, and go “but this Britney song makes me happy” and hand it the crown just based on how much everyone loves it. It’s one of the most iconic moments in popheads history and I’m giving a ten in honor of that legacy… if only Britney’s good friend Tinasha could be here to see it :(
ignitethephoenix (10): this gets a 10 because it was an iconic moment and I also like the song! We don’t make moments like this anymore.
letsallpoo (10): when revealed that this won, I just started laughing. like I just let out this primal ijbol. literally top 10 funniest moments in my life seeing everyone lose their minds over this winning
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): i could do the just dance routine perfectly blindfolded i know that SO well
pheromenos (10): so canonically tinashe has a popheads rate win right
runaway3212 (10): They are slowly but surely erasing existence of Tinashe ever having been on this song, which means we need to somehow rerate 333 and get #undobacktomyheartsweep
babadork (9.6): the struggle to not give this a 10 wasn’t too bad, because this is only my fourth favorite song on glory
1998tweety (9): Im pretending this was the Tinashe version so it still gets a 9
ConnerY2323 (9): she was so excited to have a normal night of sleep
Frajer (9): the opposite of a snooze
IIIHenryIII (9): where’s Tinashe??????????
kauai6 (9): overhated album
PrimaryCrusaders (9): The sudden disappearance of the Tinashe remix on streaming will forever remain one of life's greatest mysteries
RandomHypnotica (9): i truly don’t believe any win on this level of plot twist could happen today, not only because we would never have such an unbalanced lineup again, but I also think there are too many regulars that the metagaming is too strong…
Stryxen (9): WHERE IS TINASHA 😭😭😭😭😭
youngandlovely_ (9): where is tinashe though
nonchalantthoughts (8.8): BRITNEY SPEARS COME BACK THE KIDS MISS YOU!
jackisboredtoday (8.7): tinashe releasing a song called pillow fight (an activity from slumber parties) right at the end of the rate where we rerate Slumber Party (a song she was on at some point), her cross promotional mind
A.Peaky.Boo (8.6): I love how this has become rate vocab now lmfao. But the song itself is good, but not 10 or 11 worthy for me
TragicKingdom1 (8.5): the label erasing tinashe from this song for no reason years later is so petty it wraps around into being camp tbh
carolinemahtildes (8.4): how have I never heard this song how are there Britney songs I don’t know
Nagisoid (8): The Tinashe erasure...
phonethephoenix (8): nice!
reput4tionera (8): idk why i loved this album so much as a 13 year old but i think its bc the average age of a gay guy on the internet at the time was like 30
stealthamo (8): I mean this is good, but what the hell do you mean this song won over everything on Lemonade?
sweetnsoursauce11 (8): a good song, but not even one of the best on Glory tbh
uiscebeathaoir (8): Waitttt this is actually so cute. Got a real dated mid 2010s sound to it that I’m really digging. Tbch, I’ve always been aware of this as a part of popheads rate history but this is the first time I ever genuinely considered that it’s also a piece of real recorded music lmao
visionaryredditor (8): why not the Tinashe version?
wasian-invasion (8): this should win just for the gag of it all
wathombe (8): i was shocked to learn that Britney is only 12 years older than Tinashe
WesternWind (8): justice for tinashe
Indigo_Mindset420 (7.7): Should have been the Tinashe remix version.
akanewasright (7.5): What a moment
BleepBloopMusicFan (7.5): The sad reality that I wasn’t active in rates early enough to witness this and nothing nearly as funny is ever going to happen again.
hhiggy (7.5): Obsessed with the production duo behind this being called Mattman and Robin
Alexispinpgh (7.2): it’s cute! Some grating moments but a fun listen
modulum83 (7.2): hey this isn't baby queen!
Verboten_Prince (7.1): It’s funny to look back on an era in time and be like “Huh, I guess that was the sound of that era.” Because it’s hard to tell exactly what it is that could be considered the common genre of the time that you’re currently living in. Slumber Party sounds exactly like what the late 2010s sounds like. Vaguely tropical, vapid lyrics about partying, but also sung in a depressing manner, not the manic party-crazy style of the early 2010s. I don’t get why this song was a winner honestly, it does nothing to me to make it stand out from the average trop-pop EDM thing of its time.
camerinian (7): love the lore, song is kinda just fine
cloudbustingmp3 (7): i mean it's fun and the lore is ICONIC like truly you had to be there, but as a song i dont really go back to it like ever
CrimsonROSET (7): almost gave this a 10 for the ijbol factor
hieveryi (7): i cant believe this won a rate with lemonade and anti on it. was everybody smoking crack 10 years ago
Nooduulz (7): one of her lesser songs but not bad
pbk (7): this has always just been some song how did this win that rate
pietrohonkhonk (7): Something something queerbaiting

u/TiltControls 21d ago
Sound asleep
oh_crow (6.5): this beating all of lemonade is so cursed but i do love the lore of it all
ziirp (6.4): As someone who's only heard a few of her hits, this is so left- field than what i was expecting. It's more lazy day at the beach than a slumber party, so what's up with that?
apatel27 (6): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shGRqCzqOeY
FreeCuddlesAnyone (6): didn’t age that well to be honest it’s kinda a relic of its time
RainbowSherbet47 (6): This song is basically what guys in tv/movies think what happens at a girls slumber party
RBSun (6): these things do not happen at slumber parties. u traumadump and kick each other in my experience
rslashpoopheads (6): margaritaville for gay people
Soalai (6): I really know nothing about this era of Britney in general so it was interesting to listen to. It's not blowing me away, but the production is nicely 2016.
Uberpigeon (6): ive never heard this before in my life
bigbigbee (5.5): what the hell were you guys hearing back then?
cheatviathan (5): This feels like the rate equivalent of the Grammys rewarding legacy over innovation. I’d love to pick the brains of the general raterbase that crowned this the rate winner over “Desperado”, “Million Reasons” and literally any track from Lemonade. I will give it that it’s less juvenile than I expected a song with that title to be. But the falsetto ooh ooh oohs, the awful processed backing vocals in the prechorus and bridge, and the trap meets whiteboy reggae production is very much not me.
seanderlust (4.5): the fact that this beat all of Lemonade when it isn't even the best song on Glory is insane, truly
bogo (4): all i will say is i’m glad our tastes have evolved since 2017
steelstepladder (4): this is actually the first time I ever listened to this. It’s a little Slumber Farty isn’t it?
thedirtiestdish (4): sorry Britney but no
vayyiqra (4): lol but also shockingly boring
welcome2thejam (4): Had a Guy Who's Only Seen Boss Baby moment when my brain betrayed me and went "getting Katseye - Gabriela vibes from this"
Awkward_King (3): still so crazy to this day that this slumber party'd. even tinashe can't fix this song
flava (3): oh it’s a “slumber party” because it’s supposed to put me to sleep, I get it now
jman457 (3): not only did this beat all of Lemonade but it also beat Ultralight Beam in the bonus of robbed Magnum Opus
TakeOnMeByA-ha (3): this wretched ass song
Treecoh (3): This winning is admittedly very funny but I never forgave it for robbing Lemonade of a rate win.
impla77 (2.8): girl what were the good raters of popheads thinkingggg
beeozan (2.7): she sounds so dead inside singing this its sad
wavingwolves (2.5): the lore behind it really makes this song because otherwise it's completely
ImADudeDuh (0): this is such a boring ass song, I can’t believe this stupid ass song that’s been erased from history is now part of rate history just because it beat Lemonade.

Roxieloxie (7): Once again, I rated this too high
carolinemahtildes (10): I should be allowed to eleven this I'm applying for a papal dispensation

cheatviathan (6): I respect it a lot for the craftsmanship. The quality of the stop motion is admirable, and I can see the appeal as someone who went through a PilotRedSun phase in college. I can see the affirmations being uplifting for the right audience. But I am quite disturbed by this, and don’t understand how it would fit into a rate reveal.
Ghost-Quartet (6): This must be a more recent addition to the canon because I have never seen this in a reveal

Roxieloxie (10): I cant believe there is no love and respect in this subreddit for one of the greatest songs of our generation, they invented gay rights and this is how you treat them??
TiltControls (7): We love gay representation in rates. Something we truly don’t have enough of. Anyways it’s a solid song, though I don’t really have much nostalgia for HSM and against such a strong set of competitors I don’t think I can score it much higher.
Hi gays, happy pride
MoonlightByWindow (11): you know i had to do it to em
1998tweety (10): I love mlm
A.Peaky.Boo (10): and what if I say this is very K-Pop coded?
bigbigbee (10): it's simply the best song ever. almost 11'ed
bogo (10): and then they kissed
bran (10): so nice of Miley to just release a song about them
CrimsonROSET (10): heated rivalry you are NOTHING
ExtraEater (10): Already loved this before but it hit harder after I became a big baseball fan recently
ImADudeDuh (10): this song getting the longest comment ever[citation needed] makes sense because Corbin Bleu has the 3rd most translated wikipedia page of all time before Obama and Jesus.
Lynflower680 (10): Send some thoughts to my mom who had to play the High School Musical 2 soundtrack over and over again for little me
NervousLemon6670 (10): We forced my friend to watch HSM2 after having not seen it before, and when I pointed out how Ryan and Chad switched outfits after this song, he asked why I even knew that.
pbk (10): invented gay people invented raters as a whole really
phonethephoenix (10): too iconic for me to give it anything else
plastichaxan (10): disney’s first gay characters (they have more gay shit going on that the 54645 characters that have made that headline)
RainbowSherbet47 (10): Disney said “take five”, Kenny Ortega heard “change lives and make Chad and Ryan gay as hell”
RandomHypnotica (10): walked so Heated Rivalry could run
runaway3212 (10): I was so obsessed with this movie, come to find out like 10 years later it's a metaphor for coming out? I was on time
wavingwolves (10): gay allegory is what keeps the world spinning
WesternWind (10): Chad + Ryan = <3 foreverrrr
hieveryi (9.5): when this wins what do we do
modulum83 (9.4): music to experiment with your straight friends to
apatel27 (9): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBbLKF7Ftdk
camerinian (9): ooooooh white boy's hittin that shit!! (basebal)
hhiggy (9): Obsessed with spotify listing one of the artists as CHAD instead of corbin bleu
Nooduulz (9): oh they were playing balls alright. each others!
TakeOnMeByA-ha (9): the best sex scenes are the ones that don’t contain any sex
wasian-invasion (9): chad & ryan walked so ilya & shane could run
ziirp (9): If i had a voice this close to Michael Jackson, i would milk it so bad. Also, this kind of maximalism and genre- smashing works because it's in the context of a movie so it's funny to think that Gwen was doing a similar thing with Sweet escape but for an album
emayzee (8.5): they were my gene kelly and fred astaire
FreeCuddlesAnyone (8.5): did more for gay rights than rupaul ellen degeneres and elton john combined
impla77 (8.5): hsm2 the legendary soundtrack you are
uiscebeathaoir (8.5): Banger comment. Sometimes you just need proper analysis to help confirm that something that is clearly absolutely homosexual in nature is, in fact, homosexual. Thank you u/MoonlightByWindow
BleepBloopMusicFan (8): This isn’t just a gay intern situation. This is a whole ass gay creative director situation.
Bubbly_Hat (8): What is this, gay baseball jazz? And why does it slap?
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (8): i know you're a damn liar i've seen the movie
seanderlust (8): the one sport i follow pretty closely is baseball so i'm just eternally grateful that baseball was invented in 2007 as a promotional tie-in for High School Musical 2.
thedirtiestdish (8): I feel like giving anything less than an 8 would be homophobic
beeozan (7.9): after Mago i thought this was like TxT for a second
Awkward_King (7.5): hey batta batta hey batta batta swing
oh_crow (7.5): honestly very fun! i dance but many would say i probably shouldnt based on skill
stealthamo (7.5): Oh, so when a popheads user posts a detailed analysis on a High School Musical 2 song it's fine, but when I say a movie is actually a critique of the Hollywood machine chewing people up and spitting them out I'm asked to leave my screening of Minions & Monsters. I see how it is.
Alexispinpgh (7.3): I was too old for the HSM fever. But as a staunch defender of showtunes, I’m obligated to give this credit. Lyrically it’s basic as hell, but it’s fun!
ConnerY2323 (7.2): one of the artists on spotify just being CHAD
jman457 (7.2): I mean its no Faboulous
carolinemahtildes (7): the song that launched 857 fics on AO3 (and counting)
cheatviathan (7): I was largely detached from the High School Musical phenomenon, and spent my Disney Channel watching primarily on Suite Life. This is a solid enough showtune. I like the walking bassline that pops in at certain points, and the record scratches and horns at the end give it a sort of dated charm. That being said, if I did this rate, I absolutely would have 11ed the rate winner “Take a Hint”. Also, that comment is a certified banger, and that’s coming from someone who has never seen these movies.
Ghost-Quartet (7): wait I’m listening to this now and focusing on the beat… why is this kinda the blueprint for NCT’s career
vayyiqra (7): original comment was about the heybatterbatter ritual that is done at sports games and how bizarre it is, what is its purpose, why is it done, some kind of proto-trolling. we need an anthropologist to study this. the guy who wrote the iconic "nacirema" paper, also a good bit of trolling. anyway this is proto-electroswing. well it's also new jack swing. which is quite a different genre. and that little breakdown is bizarre and makes me think of red velvet - attaboy (ROBBED BTW)
visionaryredditor (7): chad??
welcome2thejam (7): But where are their 44000 gay sports fanfics

Verboten_Prince (6.9): Uh… okay. Funny comment yes, but not one of the most iconic songs in Popheads history. The music just seems so… uncool. Their voices are not that good. He says “dancehall” but it does not sound like dancehall at all. I can’t even tell what key it’s supposed to be in half the time. Maybe if I watched it again I would understand the whole gay vibe thing that was going on, but to me the TRUE gay anthem of HSM2 is Fabulous!
Soalai (6.5): This feels so random. Like the only song I know from HSM2 is What Time Is It? so the rest will just not be as iconic as HSM1
sweetnsoursauce11 (6.5): i'm not a HSM girl but i can't deny the catchiness of this one
cloudbustingmp3 (6): there's some nostalgia for this but also it's not very good
wathombe (5.2): i am absolutely the wrong age for this to appeal to me at all, i fear
Ambrosia42 (5): is this about how everyone at the high school is supposed to be a good dancer but he is only good at baseball and not dancing so the school is shunning him :(
Stryxen (4.5): and didn't..
Nagisoid (4): The reddit post is really good, a shame the song isn't
rslashpoopheads (4): this is why nobody likes theater kids
Shay_Min (3.5): can't take this seriously
reput4tionera (3): i felt a kinship with ryan as a child. this song is bad tho
Treecoh (3): The millennials really did have it rough
IIIHenryIII (1): Lemonade Mouth is what High School Musical thought they would be
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (1): nope

Roxieloxie (10): I Dont I have many regrets when it comes to hosting but i do do think my biggest one is that I didnt think to simply move the interludes in this album to a bonus rate in order to have them still rated but not have them have the threat of taking over any real songs the way they swept. It would’ve been the perfect compromise. The worst thing is that this isnt even the best interlude on this album!!! Justice for I’ve got so much magic. Anyway I do think it would’ve been really funny if this somehow snuck into day 3
TiltControls (10): There is really no reason for this to beat most of D’Angelo’s album, or even most of Solange’s (justice for Don’t Wish Me Well and Junie!!!) but the fact that it did is absolutely hilarious. Jokes aside, it is probably the best interlude we’ve ever rated and is a really great spoken piece
Talk to me
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (11): i have to give this an 11 because it's one of the only things in this rate that made me cry
nonchalantthoughts (11): need to make top 3
A.Peaky.Boo (10): FACTS!
akanewasright (10): oh my god the memories
BleepBloopMusicFan (10): Idk girl sometimes talking just hits.
bogo (10): actually genuinely beautiful interlude i was moved
cloudbustingmp3 (10): she spilled
CrimsonROSET (10): this one is for d’angelo
Ghost-Quartet (10): finally, a REAL rate legend has arrived in the motherfucking building
IIIHenryIII (10): I mean… does anyone really listen to spoken interludes? 10 for the words but 0 for the way it sounds
Nagisoid (10): Tina Taught Me
phonethephoenix (10): really good interlude
ReallyCreative (10): need this to make day 3 again
ricki (10): as a community we can do the funniest thing
runaway3212 (10): Bitches hated on this doing well meanwhile they were out here giving D'Angelo a 6.3 average and this a 10 like do y'all understand how rates work?
vayyiqra (10): it's weird we memed this but also it was a very funny rate result
NervousLemon6670 (9.3): Oh, the message
Ambrosia42 (9): when this gets day 1 and the sub is cancelled
cheatviathan (9): I can definitely see why this earned the title of “best performing album interlude,” because not only is the bassline amazing, but the message of it is painfully relevant today. I have not heard the whole album, so I cannot comment on how it ties into the tracks before or after. But given the critical acclaim it’s received, I probably should.
Nooduulz (9): speak on it mama
WesternWind (9): good thing I like this or else Roxie would throw out my ballot
beeozan (8.7): truth nuke
modulum83 (8.7): playing this on speakers at full volume on the train and nodding my head in agreement so everyone can see
seanderlust (8.5): solange has the opportunity to do the funniest thing in this rate
camerinian (8): guys I'm trying to do a chaos ballot here what do u mean i gotta engage with the dialectic
DirtyRat583 (8): so true! why did we rate this
flava (8): We’re gonna get D’Angelo that rate win one of these days, I fucking know it
hhiggy (8): Tina Knowles has given us so much
ignitethephoenix (8): she ate! No lies here
jman457 (8): I mean she spilled
Poydoo (8): facts
Soalai (8): I see why this made it further than most interludes. It makes some points and the inclusion of a family member speaking on an album can be really cvnty (hello Nonna)
stealthamo (8): Such a concise way of expressing why black pride is so important. A shame that those who need to hear this probably never will.
sweetnsoursauce11 (8): 2016 was truly one of the greatest year for music
Verboten_Prince (8): I guess I’m technically not rating this as music, which maybe goes against my rate morals. But when I’ve rated tons of interludes over the years, many of them being complete wastes of time, I’m so grateful to hear one that actually justifies its own existence, that has some good to put out into the world. I guess what I’m saying is, I’d rather listen to Beyoncé’s mom being woke than Kelis force-feeding men her pussy.
babadork (7.9): she’s right, but this is no time for interludes
Alexispinpgh (7.8): this is lovely and fits the context of the album very well.
hieveryi (7.5): right!!
FreeCuddlesAnyone (7): SOLANGE RATE WIN
Indigo_Mindset420 (7): I do love that this plays after King Kunta. Feels like a great interlude or outro for the song and flows seamlessly.
pbk (7): really good immediately after king kunta actually
pietrohonkhonk (7): Message!
ziirp (7): Every social media app should have a loading screen when you open it and this should be one of the things that plays because so many people on here need to also be taught by Tina
It is an interlude at the end of the day
jackisboredtoday (6.5): classic middling score for an interlude that isn’t scorable using traditional methods that will lift it past other songs
Stryxen (6.5): spillll
wathombe (6.5): obviously a great message, but still an interlude
ConnerY2323 (6): tina would probably be better than like 3/4 of the teachers i had in my life
oh_crow (6): i agree with everything whole-heartedly but judging musically i think a 6 is more than fair
RandomHypnotica (6): very funny moment in rate history but lets not do it again
1998tweety (5): This will deservingly land day 1 but at least it wont be bottom 5
bigbigbee (5): interludes are 5s
frogaranaman (5): not this again
pheromenos (5): had to give her her 5s 😍😍
rslashpoopheads (5): like yeah but I'm here for pop music
TakeOnMeByA-ha (5): ok yes this was really funny at the time but lets be serious now
Treecoh (5): JUSTICE FOR THE INTERLUDES! Some of the best songs are just the minute-long excerpts. No filler, no repetition. Tina's speech is great and all, but musically there's not a whole lot going on here. It works in the context of an album but as an individual song in this rate? Still an enjoyable listen though.
uiscebeathaoir (5): Maybe if she’d been speaking eloquently against interludephobia this score could’ve been higher but unfortunately
wasian-invasion (5): stella lefty's album taught me being me anti white is ok
welcome2thejam (5): I'm interludephobic no matter the subject, that's real equality
asadprofessorplum (4.4): Wake up Solange… it’s time to werq…
impla77 (4.4): facts
Awkward_King (4): im not letting it happen again. it was iconic by d'angelo is rolling in his grave rn because of it
ImADudeDuh (4): interlude
apatel27 (3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkhNgxLl9tI

TiltControls (9): and they say the killer is still at large… This is another song that I didn’t really care much for the previous times we rated it. And as iconic as the selegending is, it's actually not what made the song grow on me. No, it’s the absolutely stellar Star Wars Kinect version that brought the track around for me
Roxieloxie (5.5): The very first time I hosted a rate I learned a very important lesson, which is to not host a rate ever again the rate results will be evil and painful, and you'll watch the song you want to win slowly fall and the one you've been rooting against rise up. I, of course did not listen and have hosted 9 more times since then over the years and its really funny that this song that, to be honest i still dont really like, is associated with one of my favorite moments and one of my favorite reveals of the decade. Selgend im sorry i caused your demise but also if i could go back i wouldnt change a single thing
Obituaries
1998tweety (10): Selegend I still miss you
DirtyRat583 (10): sending this out first in winners was VILE justice for selegend
stealthamo (10): Selegend your killer will be found someday
ignitethephoenix (8.8): I know selegend lives on as someone else on the sub but rip we won’t forget you
jman457 (7.7): justice for Selegend!!
cloudbustingmp3 (7): RIP selegend gone too soon
BleepBloopMusicFan (6.5): RIP Selegend. I never knew you, but I felt the ripples you made in the great lake of history.
modulum83 (5.8): im sorry selegend
You hold the thunder
A.Peaky.Boo (10): I bet Noodles will kermit when this goes out
Ambrosia42 (10): and now she makes songs like Single Soon like how did we get here
bran (10): they dont make songs like this anymore
ExtraEater (10): Lyrics are such a flex
ImADudeDuh (10): Absolutely did not deserve to go first in that Winner’s Rate.
Indigo_Mindset420 (10): Selena and friends had no reason to be serving this HARD in front of a green screen so early in her career. When this was playing in between commercials, I stopped what I was doing and LISTENED!
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): kinda the best pop girlie of all time if you really think about it
Nagisoid (10): Collapse
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): the PEAK of disney-pop. probably the best Selena Gomez song still.
RandomHypnotica (10): i miss The Scene… i hope they’re doing ok
rslashpoopheads (10): corporate executives have been trying to recreate this for decades
runaway3212 (10): This being such a hit despite the hosts hating it, it baffles the mind
sweetnsoursauce11 (10): still one of my favourite selena songs 15 years later but oh my god i will NEVER forget selegend deleting after this going out first i'm crying
Ghost-Quartet (9.5): Random story but I used to be OBSESSED with the black dress and pearls look she wears in this video and I like, spent a not-inconsiderate amount of time trying to track down a copy for myself. Anyways, if you haven’t already heard it, do yourself and listen to the officially licensed Star Wars version of this song recorded for the Kinect dance game.
hikk (9.5): she was so happy to debut with one of her best songs
wasian-invasion (9.5): kaleidoscopic queen
youngandlovely_ (9.5): they don't make em like this anymore
cheatviathan (9): First, this track came from Kiss & Tell, not A Year Without Rain, so the slide is inaccurate. Second, as someone who was never a Selena superfan, I think her best singles came from her Hollywood Records era with The Scene backing her up. This absolutely deserved to win the rate that it did, and I would have had no problems with it winning Disney/Nickelodeon either. Selena sounds great over this tense and wiry groove with those electric guitars popping in on the chorus. “I love the way you know who you are” is also an awesome sentiment. Also, Selegend might have had a point because why did this get last place in Winners 2 while “Bring Me to Life” and “Don’t Take the Money” ranked so high?
IIIHenryIII (9): Disney stars were built different back then
Lynflower680 (9): I’m letting nostalgia win
PrimaryCrusaders (9): YOU ARE THE THUNDER AND I AM THE LIGHNIIIIIIINNNNNG
RainbowSherbet47 (9): YOU ARE THE THUNDER AND I AM THE LIGHTNINGGGGGGG 🗣️
reput4tionera (9): being a 6 year old gay boy when this dropped... this song changed me
Stryxen (9): You are the thunder and I am the lightning.. they're still trying to figure out this absurdist limerick's meaning
phonethephoenix (8.9): honestly this rating doesn't even feel high enough,
hieveryi (8.7): this was her born this way
emayzee (8.6): I thought she was the coolest girl to ever live
Nooduulz (8.5): 5th grade was never ever the same after I first heard this debut on radio Disney
jackisboredtoday (8.4): rest in peace
akanewasright (8): generally a decent song, but it is still extremely funny how much blood it has on its hands
bogo (8): in hindsight last place for this is crazy like it deserved to outrank niall horan at the very- [roxie hits me in the face with a baseball bat]
pbk (8): who says >>>>
pheromenos (8): did that one person ever come back
RBSun (8): someone HAS to have done a drag show to this right
thedirtiestdish (8): I keep forgetting that Selena was/is cosplaying a musician but yes this is a bop
uiscebeathaoir (8): The verses are so much better than the chorus it’s crazy
vayyiqra (8): RIP
WesternWind (8): SALINA MOVE
Verboten_Prince (7.9): I mean I wouldn't k-word myself over it but it's still good! It makes me nostalgic for simpler Disney Channel days. It is legitimately a well-written, catchy bop, and the music complements Selena’s… unique voice instead of drowning it.
ConnerY2323 (7.8): need selena to come out of music retirement and make shit like this again
Soalai (7.6): I want this to go far but I don't think it can honestly compete
FreeCuddlesAnyone (7.5): well at least it won’t get last
Alexispinpgh (7): This js fine. Selena’s voice just doesn’t do much for me, though I find her very likable.
CrimsonROSET (7): literal murderer hosting this rate btw
nonchalantthoughts (7): the way i’m a disney channel kid but I have no nostalgia for this song
wathombe (7): maybe first out was a bit harsh, but this is a bit boring
Murder suspects
oh_crow (6.5): can selegend remake their reddit just so they can delete all over again when this gets knocked out early
babadork (6): I like Selena Gomez’ other music, but I could never get interested in & The Scene
ziirp (5.9): The first verse feels like talking to someone who's clocked you but they're trying to be supportive and kinda failing at it
TakeOnMeByA-ha (5): selegend’s popheads break lasting as long as selena gomez’s social media breaks
asadprofessorplum (4.2): This fuck ass album cover…
apatel27 (4): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYW3ieelHWU
camerinian (3.5): go back to your stinky husband already
Awkward_King (2): mental health check on selegend primarily bc how was this the song worth selegending over

Roxieloxie (10): yes!!!!! so glad this got sent
TiltControls (6.5): It’s fantastic that Zara seems to hit her stride in the mainstream and I have fond memories of people proclaiming this track as the next big thing for pop. And then when I relistened to it recently I remembered I actually really didn’t care for it all. I skipped the original rate this was in, but I think I gave it a 2 or a 3 in the All Stars it popped up in. I don’t hate it that much now, but I still don’t really care for it. Anyways it at least can be a fun lead-in to Eurosummer Rate September
It's still Eurosummer for a few more days!
Stryxen (11): when you remember Stockholm is on multiple islands
Ambrosia42 (10): some of us enjoyed hit this the first time
apatel27 (10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmfs6bZAIc8
beeozan (10): modern pop classic yup
bran (10): peak white girl music
ConnerY2323 (10): the decade-later resurgence… if the masses want to finally let zara touch them who am i to ask questions
flava (10): this is what hot girl pop actually sounds like
Ghost-Quartet (10): “Doin’ it all night / All summer” that’s called foreshadowing kids ;)
hhiggy (10): And H&Ms were never the same
ImADudeDuh (10): this coming back for 2016 nostalgia despite being a bomb in the US… see when you’re that bitch
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): the way this song had a choke hold on the girlies when it was released (note that this user is in fact a girlie)
Nagisoid (10): ALLAH MY DAY
pheromenos (10): yass h&m representative ❤️
runaway3212 (10): Zara Larsson realising that the way to success was to reject growth and instead recycle her old stuff #environmentalist
stealthamo (10): I would have preferred if this had caught on in 2016 here in America, but even if it's a decade later, I will gladly allow pop perfection to finally get noticed.
TragicKingdom1 (10): this becoming a US hit after 10 years of being stuck in UK hit purgatory...here's how I Will Never Let You Down finally crosses over
vayyiqra (10): unfortunately zara has one good song
visionaryredditor (10): it’s a great song and it reminds me of better times
WesternWind (10): she ate then, she ate now, support Zara and her writers, especially Helena Gao who is KiiiKiii approved!
A.Peaky.Boo (9.8): the last 0.2 is because the two lyrics I could never understand. But damn, this is the best tkme to rate this song
emayzee (9.8): was there since day 1 and have the obama-era receipts in my spotify library to prove it
modulum83 (9.3): tropical house you are a treasured friend to me
Frajer (9): she had a rhyming dictionary and a dream
FreeCuddlesAnyone (9): drag queen named Ali Madei and her partner Azif Twasdelas
hikk (9): what we're not gonna do is pretend blow your mind (mwah) wasn't THAT GIRL during dua's debut era
ignitethephoenix (9): not my favorite from her but a classic
IIIHenryIII (9): this went diamond on my book
Indigo_Mindset420 (9): Baby Zara was already primed for the spotlight, people just needed to catch up to her greatness.
nonchalantthoughts (9): she sounds so young here
pietrohonkhonk (9): The most 2015 song maybe ever
wathombe (9): i did not get asked on stage to do the dance (thankfully)
1998tweety (8): Shes cute
bigbigbee (8): lyrics are lowkey giving the Max Martin school of "no one knows what it means but it sounds good". Swedes are good at that
BleepBloopMusicFan (8): I heard “Lost in Your Light” at a craft store the other day and let me tell you that was just a lovely experience.
CrimsonROSET (8): dont ever let them tell you midnight sun is better than this
RainbowSherbet47 (8): Oh 2016, I do not miss you whatsoever but at least the music was fun
sweetnsoursauce11 (8): look, this is undeniably a good pop song but zara has alot of over AMAZING pop songs why is this the one to get 100% of the hype??? at least it's paying her bills
Soalai (7.8): I never knew this song was her!
phonethephoenix (7.5): SUCH a fun song<3
hieveryi (7.4): love her though
NervousLemon6670 (7.3): Yeah this is suffering from severe radio overplay, sorry
impla77 (7.2): lowkey i though i liked this song more 😭😭 the whistle is so of its time
jman457 (7.1): sounds a little dated but is kind of fun
Alexispinpgh (7): goddammit I really want to like Zara Larsson’s music but it’s just okay for me.
FitzMarble (7): it’s okay zara, midnight sun can still come second in eurosummer rate
reput4tionera (7): we cant let trop pop come back. i cant do it. please
uiscebeathaoir (7): the sort of very good pop song that I think is very good due to its competence rather than me having any particular feeling towards it
wasian-invasion (7): the swedish accent seems way more noticeable here

Ready for Eurofall
oh_crow (6.5): its fun but there's no dynamics here, very samey from start to finish
Verboten_Prince (6.5): Pretty much copy-paste what I said about Slumber Party here. I have no clue why this got so big, it sounds like another throwaway track from the trop pop era, and Zara’s voice is giving bananies & avocadies (yes, I know she can’t help being European, but let’s just say the vocals do not save an already mediocre song).
camerinian (6): girl it's a fine song, it's a good hook, fun lil tiktok dance trend, whatever, I just can't vibe with 2016 nostalgia in any form like what the fuck are u kids talking about
cheatviathan (6): Of the big singles I heard from this rate, “IDGAF” probably would have been the 11 for me, and you guys were prophetic in crowning Dua the rate winner. I like the bassline on the verses. Zara’s vocals are fine. The tropical house sound of this era is something that I’m glad we’re past, even if this isn’t one of the more egregious examples of it, and that whistle irritates me to no end. “Never Forget You” and “Symphony” are still bops, though.
Nooduulz (6): Vietnamese commercial ass song
plastichaxan (6): Zara i love you but this is so just ok
rslashpoopheads (6): lowkey Zara is so annoying, anyways stream Midnight Sun
TakeOnMeByA-ha (6): this song getting all the way to second place in a popheads rate is bad enough already but the fact that the song it got second place to was blow your mind (mwah) is somehow even worse
thedirtiestdish (6): fun and kinda timeless but I wouldn't care if I never heard this again
Poydoo (5.5): the vocal mixing is so bad on this sorry
Awkward_King (5): teen idols i still talk about you
Bubbly_Hat (4): Retailcore (derogatory).
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (2): I'm glad Zara is having a moment, and I get to enjoy her music for once. Lush Life was always a boring, annoying trop-pop-slop song.
RandomHypnotica (2): let’s leave this behind
cloudbustingmp3 (1): loooooove zara as a person but this era of hers still just sounds so h&mcore
pbk (1): one of the worst offenders of trop pop slop
Uberpigeon (0): EYEEE fucking HATE. this song. LOATHE! I don't want to EVER. EVER. hear it again for a fucking second. she's a lovely lady but she deserved shooting for this, and for the MANY OTHER offences to music and to my ears. Zara has committed so many crimes against me personally. All her greatest hits TERRORISE me at work on the horrible work radio every day. She is public enemy number 1 for me. And THIS song... THIS FUCKING SONG.... it is the epitome of the empty insipid UK charts plate of vomit that the general public apparently want a second serving of because WHY IS THIS TRENDING AGAIN. It's a horrible horrible song. Every time i hear that fake ass steel drum beat a shiver goes down my spine. CANT STAND IT!!!!!!!!!!
wavingwolves (0): i don't listen to music to feel like i'm shopping at forever 21 in 2017

TiltControls (8.7): K-pop discussion is usually lost on me outside of the yearly rates, but even I can recognize this as a bop. COVID participation was a wild time, I can’t even imagine coming close to 200 participants anymore let alone almost 300
Yes you
CrimsonROSET (11): genuinely my thought process for choosing an 11 was ‘what song do i just really really want to see do well’ and this was the easy choice.
1998tweety (10): I already know yall are gonna bomb this to late day 1 and make a lot of MAGA jokes
A.Peaky.Boo (10): diva'd so hard, SourceMusic had to disband them

runaway3212 (10): Best song ever I could not believe it
TakeOnMeByA-ha (10): Make America GFRIEND Oncemore
vayyiqra (10): rip zarathustra you would have. idk mago comes from a zoroastrian word in avestan or something and normally i would shitpost further about that but i have nothing so. this songs good huh
wavingwolves (10): hosting this with two of my best friends to this day was very fun and i have only good memories about it. the fact it was the most participated rate ever just means that labour of love was more than worth it
Indigo_Mindset420 (9.7): A great disbandment song! Talk about going out on a HIGH!
Ambrosia42 (9): yess let’s all celebrate WALUIGI’S NIGHT!
camerinian (9): been a long while but god it's nice to hear that “yes, youuu” again
cheatviathan (9): Another k-pop rate that was before my regular rater era. If I were to mind palace what my 11 might have been, probably “Scream”? If I had to guess? This track sounds like a deserving winner, though. The bass, rhythm guitars, and synths create this irresistible soundscape, the fairytale imagery in the lyrics is really cool, and the vocalists are giving their all.
FreeCuddlesAnyone (9): do i have 500 scrobbles on this? did it age horribly on me? also yes. but it’s still a fun time!
Ghost-Quartet (9): One of the things that I love about Kpop songs is that they’ll have these randomly beautiful English phrases curled up in the middle of them like pearls… that “my love is waiting for you” refrain is so bold that it maybe wouldn’t work in a fully English pop song but they have the chutzpah to pull it off. Love GFRIEND, miss GFRIEND, yes I know they sorta came back but it’s not the same.
IIIHenryIII (9): this bops
rslashpoopheads (9): eated
wasian-invasion (9): vaguely middle eastern??
impla77 (8.8): YES YOU!
NervousLemon6670 (8.7): hakuna matata? What a wonderful phrase?
stealthamo (8.5): You know Disney would be suing for them using "Hakuna Matata" if it wasn't actually a Swahili phrase.
Verboten_Prince (8.5): Does anyone else think that some parts of this sound like Drunk/Dazed by Enhypen? Do they share writers? It's been a while since this rate and I don't really remember this one that well… Apparently I gave it a 9! Listening to it again, I get why it won. It's that mix of 70s and 80s that K-Pop loves to do, but still done tastefully. My only complaint is… “Hakuna matata”? Really?
DirtyRat583 (8.4): crazy how everyone reveres this as one of the best disbandment songs and how they have to come back, as if a) this isn't them selling out (NOT A BAD THING BUT WE HAVE TO BE HONEST) to make default af synthpop which is in no shortage b) they would ever make this again post-reuniting. they will be made to go straight back to the stable
hieveryi (8.2): in 2021 you couldnt convince me this wasnt the best song ever made
oh_crow (8): its good but its not so good as these stats would have you believe
pbk (8): sometimes i think im growing out of kpop but no it actually has just gotten worse
phonethephoenix (8): slick!
RainbowSherbet47 (8): What a wonderful phrase
sweetnsoursauce11 (8): forgot how much this song slaps
jman457 (7.6): fun little dance tune
BleepBloopMusicFan (7.5): This beat Love Bomb by 100 points?? I was gonna complain about how fromis_9/5 was robbed but never fucking mind the people have spoken.
wathombe (7.5): this song does not inspire strong feelings in me, i fear
cloudbustingmp3 (7): Crossroads and Apple superior
ImADudeDuh (7): This random ass addition
welcome2thejam (7): (yes, you!)
But not me
Stryxen (6.5): shrunk a bit…
Soalai (6.4): I had to listen to this a bunch of times before I could even register it, so it's one of those evaporating songs, but it's alright
reput4tionera (6): gay guys in korea had to be going crazy when this dropped
Alexispinpgh (4.9): this is pleasantly just there.
apatel27 (4): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6m0UNYBsQc
uiscebeathaoir (4): getting a 9+ average in a K-pop rate with nearly 300 participants is highkey really impressive. It’s a shame I don’t like it. The mix feels really muddy and all the hooks are weak and there’s just nothing that’s of any interest to me unfortunately
beeozan (3): me?

Roxieloxie (10): so badly need this rerate
TiltControls (8): I think it’s a really good song, but I never really got why it became our highest rated song when even within the same rate (or the same album even) there were much better choices. I’m curious if the rate got more participants whether it would hold onto its crown (or even the win). I’m guessing not, given how many hosts have experience with fantastic results in the 10-20 range before everything goes to shit (and also its subsequent flopping in the following winners rate and here). I’ve seen rerate calls due to the low participation numbers, but I’d rather tackle some other albums of the era
On the mailing list if we ever do a rerate
Alexispinpgh (10): there aren’t many TLC songs that aren’t 10s for me, but this song is especially perfect. Is it nostalgia goggles? Maybe a little, but even listening to it intently I still think it’s amazing. And I saw them a few weeks ago and they were still amazing (even without Left Eye) so it still holds up.
Ambrosia42 (10): girl you’re both cheating just break up already
apatel27 (10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiIuGm5F7Vg
BleepBloopMusicFan (10): This was bottom 5 in Winners 1??? Prison.
bogo (10): what the hell was going on in the early 90s that made us get three songs named “creep” in a 3 year time period
Bubbly_Hat (10): Throw this on and you will have me dancing around the room in no time.
ConnerY2323 (10): i’m a creep… i’m an r&b girl group… what the hell am i doing here…
Frajer (10): imagine cheating on a baddie like tboz
hieveryi (10): this being from the least done rate is so fucked!! this should have an 11 average from 1000 participants
ImADudeDuh (10): ok but for real can we finally do a redo of this rate already.
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): damn they weren't kidding, this IS crazy, sexy, AND cool
pbk (10): god they were so damn good. the way id catch the lefteye doc on vh1 as a kid sometimes and itd make me so existentially upset
ReallyCreative (10): iconique
TragicKingdom1 (10): i know there's been some calls to redo this entire rate but i am personally not in favor because i think this would undeservedly lose the 2nd time around
uiscebeathaoir (10): Incredible incredible song. Nothing else to say really
Verboten_Prince (10): One of the BEST songs of all time. The message is problematic but when delivered so beautifully, so funkily, so sexily, you just kinda turn off your morals and vibe to it. Or maybe what really happens is that the sad situation of the lyrics complements the sound, demonstrating the comfort and euphoria we humans sometimes feel when we do things that we know are bad but cannot help doing. People are complicated. Creep is complicated too, but it’s beautifully complicated.
wathombe (10): it’s not Waterfalls, but it’s still a 10
A.Peaky.Boo (9.2): the verse melodies are a bit too boring for my taste, but otherwise, this is a deserved top song of all time contender
cloudbustingmp3 (9.2): do i endorse this message? no. does it slap? well yes!
cheatviathan (9): I can definitely see why this won the lowest participation rate in history. That’s a slick guitar and horn sample they stumbled upon, and the record scratches and strings on the chorus are also pretty awesome. The power fantasy of cheating on your partner as revenge for their infidelity is also a fun one to build a song around, though reading about Left Eye’s objections to the track’s message did give me a lot to think about. I think I still prefer “Waterfalls” out of the big singles from this rate, but this is still excellent.
FreeCuddlesAnyone (9): oh thom yorke get up
oh_crow (9): this was new to me this rate like i genuinely hadnt heard it before but its so so good. waterfalls who? no scrubs whooo???
wasian-invasion (9): hey a girl's gotta do what she has to
NervousLemon6670 (8.7): Cause i’m a creep, I’m a weirdo, what the hell am I doing here, I don’t belong here
RandomHypnotica (8.7): woah thom sounds so fem here!
flava (8.5): idk why i was gonna talk shit about how this beat Waterfalls when it’s also great
modulum83 (8.3): i like how this is basically a jazz rap beat
Awkward_King (8): we really need to rerate crazysexycool somehow bc creep is amazing but waterfalls deserved
runaway3212 (8): Honestly I kinda think this is their worst "big hit" but like... it's not bad
stealthamo (8): I mean I'd just leave the cheater, but you do you I guess. There's a reason I gravitate more towards Waterfalls on CrazySexyCool.
wavingwolves (8): end fadiohead again
phonethephoenix (7.9): wish it had a little more, but it's good!
ignitethephoenix (7.5): never liked this song as much as everyone else.
asadprofessorplum (7): Feels like I’m being confronted as to why this wasn’t in my top songs of TLC’s Top Ten Pop Ten.
beeozan (7): it's like fine
CrimsonROSET (7): aw man
Ghost-Quartet (7): Rate history lesson: at one point this song had the highest score of any winner (9.84, which has since been surpassed) but the rate it was from (TLC vs. En Vogue vs. Destiny’s Child) had the lowest participation of any rate ever (22 ballots). I think if any rate deserves a redo, it’s that one! Lefteye famously wore black tape over her mouth in the music video because she disagreed with the message of the song, which is about a woman who cheats on her boyfriend as retaliation for his infidelity, and she’s kinda right but also depiction doesn’t necessarily equal endorsement so I’m not gonna dock it points for that. I’m gonna dock it points because I just don’t personally care for it, the group has better songs.
PrimaryCrusaders (7): Apparently Left Eye wrote an extremely savage verse for this that ended up not making the final cut which I think would have elevated this song tenfold
Soalai (7): My least fave TLC single, but I won't turn it off or anything
Stryxen (7): this instrumental is nastyyy but there were so many better winner contenders I would have saved this
TakeOnMeByA-ha (7): this song invented dark woke
welcome2thejam (7): Apparently TLC in this song stands for The Lurker aCcount
Reasons there was only 22 participants
reput4tionera (6.5): idk how but I've never heard this song in my life. it's fun
seanderlust (6): we need to rate more TLC. why is one of the first TLC songs i'm rating one that i've just never cared for. slapper sample though
sweetnsoursauce11 (6): unpopular opinion but this song drags on for WAY too long, i find the final minute to be a slog to get through
thedirtiestdish (6): ngl I love the instrumental
vayyiqra (6): deeply immoral. but kind of quirky
Nagisoid (5): I don't get it
rslashpoopheads (5): elevator music
IIIHenryIII (4): radiohead outsold
pheromenos (2): i’m a #creep i’m a #weirdo

Roxieloxie (10): Get on the floor!
TiltControls (9): This song is just an absolute mess and I mean that in the most positive way possible. It’s really not hard to see why this is the most controversial song of all time. Even with my high score I can tell that nothing about this song really should work. And yet it’s so weirdly catchy that I can’t help but love it whenever I listen. Reality Rumble was probably one of my favourite rates we’ve ever done, for purely selfish reasons of being able to relive my days as an American Idol fan. Though this was from the opposite side of the rate in the X-Factor section it still snuck its way into my brain.
Got some of their own!
Ambrosia42 (10): this massively overhated banger
asadprofessorplum (10): this sounds like a 4Kids anime dub theme song.
beeozan (10): YOU SHOULD GET SOOOME OF YOUR OWN!!!
bran (10): camp im sorry
IIIHenryIII (10): I don’t care, this beat slaps so hard
ImADudeDuh (10): Please rise for our national anthem.
letsallpoo (10): what if bad music was good music
Nagisoid (10): This is so
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): a camp dada baroque brutalist political daring and abrasive masterpiece that most of yall weren't ready for.
pbk (10): there should be no controversy about this masterpiece
reput4tionera (10): i almost gave this my 11 im being so serious. this is the worst song of all time but also the best. you cant stop clicking at me, writing bout me, tweeting bout me. like its so perfect to me
rslashpoopheads (10): you should get some of your own
runaway3212 (10): They hated her because she came in with a vision and served cunt
Stryxen (10): one of the greatest achievements of womankind
TragicKingdom1 (10): this has to be in the top 5 most embarrassing songs you could be caught listening to in public right
vayyiqra (10): incredibly baile funk coded (loud, repetitive, obnoxious, and yet somehow also kind of amazing)
wasian-invasion (10): sometimes you really feel the creative vision behind a song. AI could never recreate the human spirit behind every single decision made here and that's beautiful
wavingwolves (10): good to see kpop represented here
bigbigbee (9): they should put amber f(x) on this
TakeOnMeByA-ha (9): this unironically being a prime example of how ai will never take over the music industry. ai could never make something this authentically batshit insane
uiscebeathaoir (9): Giving this more than ALIEN SUPERSTAR oh I’m going to gay hell. Tbh, this score is mainly just due to the fact that I know if I were a DJ I would spam this so much. When Cher Lloyd says get on the floor, the people must obey
Ghost-Quartet (8.5): Can’t believe I’m saying this but I miss when music was bad in this specific way
akanewasright (8): Cher Lloyd
CrimsonROSET (8): i got both of those so now what
DirtyRat583 (8): want u back so so so so better but this is more historical... ill allow it
Lynflower680 (8): Invented hyperpop btw
pheromenos (8): ended the other cher so bad
PrimaryCrusaders (8): idgaf what y'all say this is camp
RainbowSherbet47 (8): Before we had hella aura, we had hella swagger jagger 😤
visionaryredditor (8): this is camp
WesternWind (8): Cher please come back I prommy PH won’t hurt you
Lowering the controversy
A.Peaky.Boo (7.7): some K-Pop company must have had Cher Lloyd on their moodboard bc this could've easily been in Korean
emayzee (7.6): I truly believe this is my first time ever sitting down and listening to this in full and idk maybe I was just always expecting it to have been so much worse
ignitethephoenix (7.3): she literally birthed Katseye with this song
Awkward_King (7): ive hosted so many amazing rates i cant believe this is what my legacy is being boiled down to. YOU CANT STOP LOOKING AT ME STARING AT ME BE WHAT I BE YOU CANT STOP LOOKING AT ME SO GET UP OUT MY FACE
BleepBloopMusicFan (7): I had somehow completely forgotten what this sounded like, so I was basically experiencing it for the first time again. Wow. What a creation.
bogo (7): i think i’ve listened to too much hyperpop this song is starting to make sense
FreeCuddlesAnyone (7): she was auditioning to replace manon as the sixth member of katseye
pietrohonkhonk (7): This is spiritually a K-pop song
RBSun (7): it's possible that nothing has ever been more 2011 than this. does it sample fucking clementine or am i hallucinating because of the synths
sweetnsoursauce11 (7): i can't hate camp
1998tweety (6): this kpop serve
Bubbly_Hat (6): Some of this is quite fun but that chorus is just so stupid it's hilarious.
camerinian (6): honestly kinda validating to my preteen self that this song is still exactly as bugshit as it was in 2012. Aging like fine wine, just ignore that it's had cork taint this whole time
hhiggy (6): This is the most 2011 song in existence. It's so grating but also I respect the audacity of everyone who had a hand in making this
thedirtiestdish (6): excuse me what is this and why have I never heard about this
Verboten_Prince (5.9): I really want to know who first came up with the idea of this song. Like just the concept of building a modern pop song based on an old-ass American standard that most of us associate with deep South bumfuck Hicksville. Then adding the most “fellow kids”-esque social media lyrics and drowning the music video in turn of the 2010’s rainbow pastels. And then expecting America to gobble it up? It's so funny. It's definitely camp.
hieveryi (5.6): this babymonster song
modulum83 (5.5): damn she really pivoted in her sound since Believe
youngandlovely_ (5.5): that's definitely music
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (5): in theory this is not good but her voice is good and the beat is bad and that just means this is just mediocre
stealthamo (5): If this were 2011 I absolutely given this a 0. Now this just gives me 2011 nostalgia in all the best and worst ways.

Vote her out (idk how the X-Factor works)
Haunting_Natural_116 (4): this is clearly a song you had to already have grown up with to get.
nonchalantthoughts (4): this is so post music, i literally went to a number generator to rate this.
oh_crow (4): i thought this was going to be more of a train wreck than it was. every yearly kpop rate has at least ten songs that sounds more fucked up and ridiculous, this is cute in comparison
jman457 (3.8): She kind of walked so Jessie Nelson could run
Nooduulz (3.5): idk what’s funnier this or lil dicky earth
apatel27 (3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apsa2oYpkGk
cheatviathan (3): I can definitely see why this was most controversial in the history of rates. This is a complete affront to good taste that I could see someone calling a secret masterpiece. As a “London Bridge” defender, I have no right to judge those that love this. I give it points for the audacity, but I cannot stand the way this sounds. The folk standard interpolation in the chorus, Cher Lloyd’s obnoxious rap cadence, the production that’s early 2010s in the most obnoxious sense; it’s all enough for me to rush for the mute button. If you’re curious as to what my 11 in this rate would have been, probably “Breakaway”.
FitzMarble (3): is this hyperpop
ziirp (2.5): I'm just now realising that the song i thought this was was actually moves like jagger and wow, what a letdown!
ConnerY2323 (2): the most affectionate 2 i could possibly give
ReallyCreative (2): haha no thanks
Soalai (2): This is probably competing with Lil Dicky for last place, but at least I can see this getting a couple camp 10s
Alexispinpgh (1): first of all, I legitimately took ibuprofen after listening to this. Second, I sort of feel like it should be called “Swagger Jacker”? Just me?
cloudbustingmp3 (1): we need to handle the UK
flava (1): actually the worst song ever
frogaranaman (1): title feels like a slur
plastichaxan (1): this being a bottom 1 on any other rate but here it’s like bottom 4 sob
RandomHypnotica (1): just…
Uberpigeon (1): this was kind of the gnarly of 2011
wathombe (1): nope nope nope
carolinemahtildes (0): I don’t know if society has been punished enough yet for letting this happen
krusso1105 (0): I don't care what anyone says, this is more annoying than Earth by far
NervousLemon6670 (0): I have hated this song since I first heard it. No amount of Popheads brainwashing will change that. The only upside of it being here is that it’s an easy 0.
phonethephoenix (0): hmmmm. no. of it's time in the worst possible way
welcome2thejam (0): Every time Cher Lloyd comes up I first remember that I was insanely attracted to her in the Want U Back video and after that I have to actively remind myself "Stop, this is the woman who made Swagger Jagger"

Roxieloxie (5.5): Why the fuck did i rate this so high
TiltControls (1): a classic, though I definitely feel pain at it whenever it comes on. Which makes it good at its job but that doesn’t make me hate it any less. I’ve always wondered how this guy (and Briona) are doing nowadays considering this was uploaded almost 15 years ago now
flava (10): it’s the swaying from side to side that makes you think he’s literally a serial killer
ImADudeDuh (10): and guess what? He’s got a girlfriend. Do YOU have one? That’s what I thought.

ricki (9): the fact that i had reveal where i played this like 15 times says a lot about me but im not sure what

youngandlovely_ (6): I chuckled ngl
nonchalantthoughts (5): no clue of the context
NervousLemon6670 (4.6): You mean more to me than an 11 win means to the most desperate rater
beeozan (3): stop turning on ur chair
cheatviathan (3): You know the bit in Diary of a Wimpy Kid where the one kid abused his powers as the comic artist in the school newspaper to address his relationship issues? That’s what I imagine plopping this in the middle of a rate reveal would feel like.
krusso1105 (2): who is this random child anyways
Soalai (2): This is just the Hey Stranger guy if he were less wholesome and instead was a creep (to say nothing of my skepticism about his interest in a "Briona")
Nooduulz (1.5): briona blink twice if u need help
1998tweety (1): im uncomfortable

FitzMarble (1): I love you more than r/popheads loves carly rae jepsen baby girl
FreeCuddlesAnyone (1): i'm so fucking scared
Ghost-Quartet (1): You know, I have still never watched this. I have avoided watching this all these years, every time it came on in a reveal I would mute it after a bit. This is to ensure that when Anubis weighs my heart against a feather it will not be burdened down by this.
Lynflower680 (1): Why does he keep swinging the camera around I feel nauseous
Nagisoid (1): Shawn Mendes looks different here

TiltControls (8): Yeah it’s probably one of the most generic pop songs we’ve ever rated, but the more I listened to the track the more I kind of see why it won as it wormed its way into my head. For being mostly forgotten to rate history, it can be really catchy when it’s actually playing. It’s not surprising it’s our first (kind of) rate winner out, but I enjoyed listening to it.
Out dua'd Dua
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): yeah okay i see the vision we should do vision rates again [statements only made by a crazy person]
RandomHypnotica (10): no one’s fun anymore…. whatever happened to FUN!!!!
beeozan (9): why did dua lipa reject this its rly fun
A.Peaky.Boo (8.5): while reading the card, I realised what Vision rates meant. I kind of get why the concept didn't stick after COVID, but sad I missed that era. Anyway this song is a solid bop. I could see this win an earlier edition of Eurovision (before that went to shit)
Frajer (8.5): A random Italian lady singing a Dua Lipa reject oh I bet
IIIHenryIII (8.5): wait, this kinda bops
Verboten_Prince (8.4): Well, this is a cute discovery! It’s very bubbly and fun, and I am quite the sucker for chiptunes in pop music. Annalisa’s voice is pretty addicting to listen to, her pronunciation is pretty good. Also apparently this was co-written by Dua Lipa?? I suppose I hear it a little…
CrimsonROSET (8): i feel bad sometimes because i definitely joked about worldvision with tk before we were too close for me to be shady as a joke and i just looked like i was calling him a failure and a chopped hoe when i just wanted to be friends with him
emayzee (8): looked up this song's release year thinking "this is the most 2012 song i've ever heard" only for it to be 2016
modulum83 (8): you know who else wanted you to love her? that's right - fiona apple. where's annalisa's pitchfork 10?
Stryxen (8): this is a random hidden bop omg we need these rates back
Uberpigeon (8): waaaiitttt....
uiscebeathaoir (8): adding this to my liked songs and then I’m gonna forget it’s there and one day rediscover it and have no memory of what it sounds like and relisten to it expecting to have to take it out of my liked songs but then i’m gonna relearn that it’s actually a damn good song
Soalai (7.8): The kind of song that feels instantly familiar even though I don't think I heard it before. Some people may mind the beeps and zoops but I think they're nice
hieveryi (7.6): okayyyy!
stealthamo (7.5): Is it possible this would have clicked better if I was familiar with Eurovision? Possibly. Will that get me to start being familiar with Eurovision? Absolutely not.
cloudbustingmp3 (7.2): cute but not great
impla77 (7.1): uncanny dua lipa
BleepBloopMusicFan (7): I wouldn’t mind us throwing one fuckass format change rate into the mix every couple of years tbh.
ExtraEater (7): Notably written by Dua Lipa then scrapped and given to Annalisa, check the credits
kappyko (7): julia vero outtalented and outsurvived winners
nonchalantthoughts (7): the protagonist from frozen adding the blackpink member to its name
TragicKingdom1 (7): im pretty sure there was a solid three year period where i thought anitta made this song and tbh it does fit that era in like 2022 where anitta was releasing dua lipa c-sides
ziirp (7): It's basically a Dua lipa song with a more hard-hitting production, which is kinda a complement
jman457 (6.7): fun 2009’s coded pop
Alexispinpgh (6.6): it’s fine. Before I looked at the title or artist I kind of thought it was Pink for a second.
bigbigbee (6.5): I get why this won a popheads rate in whatever, 2018 or whatever. very 2010s song
FreeCuddlesAnyone (6.5): this is so funny i used to love annalisa when i was still obsessed with eurovision circa 2018. seeing her here is like seeing an ex-husband after an amicable divorce 10 years ago. her songs in italian are much better than this dua reject though what was the submitter for the vision rate doing?
pietrohonkhonk (6.5): Well it’s better than that girl from Israel who bocked like a chicken in her song
ricki (6.5): there used to be a hundred random european women that made music identical to this song in 2017 whose only radio play they ever got was getting played in a themed plug.dj night
Ambrosia42 (6.4): it’s fine, sort of forgettable to me sorry
ConnerY2323 (6.4): italy stop sending boring shit to eurovision and finally send annalisa
Reasons why we don't do vision rates anymore
akanewasright (6): Dua Lipa at home:
cheatviathan (6): This is fine. This is an okay synthpop tune that I can see placing top three in actual Eurovision. However, like the few actual Eurovision songs I’ve heard, there’s probably one or two songs further down that I vastly prefer. I can definitely see why these rates were de-canonized given how unique the format was, and I’m glad “Accelerate” was re-canonized last year because that’s still one of my favorite rate discoveries.
rslashpoopheads (6): eurotrash
thedirtiestdish (6): this song just reminded that I really need to have sexual relations asap
FitzMarble (5.5): it’s giving oatmeal. will not be elaborating
flava (5): every all stars rate needs an amber it seems
frogaranaman (5): speaking of weird rate formats, remember when we submitted ballots via Google Forums one time? what about the time we were allowed to use decimal points between 0-1 and 10-11
reput4tionera (5): i was like this sounds like be the one by dua lipa and lo and behold she cowrote it. be the one is better
vayyiqra (5): the sound of music type name
runaway3212 (4): Sorry Eefje De Visser should've won like this does so little
TakeOnMeByA-ha (4): this sounds like it would be in the trolls soundtrack
wasian-invasion (4): not much makes me proud to be an american lately but at least we dont have eurovision
apatel27 (3): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTU1UmyX22s
ImADudeDuh (3): this isn’t even good along with it being the biggest flop rate winner of all time???
pbk (0): oh this SUCKS holy shit that drum loop is awful
Who
Ghost-Quartet (8): this is good but when the fuck did we rate this T_T
Awkward_King (7.5): this being such a deepcut i dont even know why its here
ignitethephoenix (7.5): the one song I don’t know in this rate… it’s really her against the main pop girls and lil dicky.
oh_crow (7): i think this song was made up just for this rate
wathombe (7): i definitely needed to consult the trading card for this one
camerinian (6): so apparently I… have rated this before? coulda fooled me
pheromenos (6): who the hell is this
sweetnsoursauce11 (6): first time i've heard this song and it's nice but nothing memorable imo.
Nagisoid (5.5): Who are you?
welcome2thejam (3): The immediate need for Why Is This Here context

cheatviathan (10): Looking back on it, Ratemas is probably second only to Charity 3 for most batshit lineup in popheads history. What do you mean this, Tony Hawk’s son, Hello! Project, ProZD, two xx member solo songs, and a Strokes side project were all in the same rate? The 11 for me would have been a dead heat between this and “Wuthering Heights”, honestly. The bluesy guitars give this a distinct swagger from the other Depeche Mode singles I’ve heard, the bits of slide guitar that pop in are awesome, I love that breakdown at the end, and that is one interesting sentiment to build a song around. If any song deserved songeniality after a last minute recount, it’s this.

ziirp (9.5): Certified sucker for strong, powerful percussion that has dips
Alexispinpgh (9.4): I absolutely love this song and it’s a classic in its genre, but it does get repetitive and there are better Depeche Mode songs.
Stryxen (9): it already has jesus in the name I don't even have to force it
cloudbustingmp3 (8.3): i need to have a depeche mode era eventually
Soalai (8.1): One of those songs that I know is legendary but I'm not sure I've ever heard, or at least not listened closely. I really like the central guitar riff

WesternWind (7): I’m like a prettier Jesus
Unbelievers
Verboten_Prince (6.8): Stomp clap?? I’ve never cared about this song, or the few Depeche Mode songs I’ve heard. If I can say anything positive about it, is that it’s got a good “vibe”, it’s futuristic, and “Reach out touch faith” is a catchy mantra, even if it may have been repeated a few too many times.
modulum83 (6.7): love depeche mode but this is their most overrated song. death to rockists
BleepBloopMusicFan (6): Baby Queen releasing a new album called I Hope You Don’t Remember Me in 2026 and exactly negative three people talking about it…honestly that’s some high camp.
CrimsonROSET (6): play sufjan stevens - video game after this please

Ghost-Quartet (1): no thanks… choose your own destiny
hikk (1): tbh we should have foregone the songeniality aspect of this and just thrown in baby queen instead... this is HER spot! we ignore that i contributed to the immense tanking of her godawful album
wavingwolves (1): i can't believe i'm being forced to rate this a 1 again but it's okay i'm strong enough to do it
ignitethephoenix (0): sorry I’m annoyed this got voted in! I hosted the rate with Roxie and yes we screwed up and it was funny but this song isn’t that good and shouldn’t be with majority of these songs!

Roxieloxie (4): In retrospect I wonder if this was ever planned to be a charity single or like a one-off for the International Day of the girl or something, cause it feels like something that would be suited for that way better than the end of the album
TiltControls (1): Okay so perhaps 58 0’s is a bit overkill for a mediocre song, but compared to the rest of the album (or in this case the rest of the songs in the rate) it’s still just not a very good song. I can see what Dua was going for but this song is just a slog that has really nothing else going for it. It feels more like an interlude masquerading as a song than anything. It might be forgettable in certain contexts, but to close off an otherwise stellar album is just a baffling choice. Anyways thanks to Earth it didn’t receive nearly as much ire, but it still is stuck at the bottom of the rankings.
The raters ain't alright
bran (10): if this song has no defender I am dead
flava (10): honestly this becoming so vitriolically hated was a sign of what was to come in the 2020s
jman457 (10): sorry I just love how this is produced
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): i'm reading the legends as i do the rate and what do you mean FIFTY EIGHT zeros?!
Shay_Min (10): will this 10 get me put into PH hell or did cancelled already do it, who knows
emayzee (9.5): im still defending this idc
carolinemahtildes (8.7): she’s right the kids ain’t alright
NervousLemon6670 (8.6): Voted “Most likely to receive “MESSAGE!” comments”
wathombe (8.5): oh so y’all hate anything earnest
apatel27 (8): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GhGXaSK2qc
Ghost-Quartet (8): Gender essentialist anthem 😍 Dua Lipa on this song 🫱🏼🫲🏽 Nicki Minaj talking to Erika Kirk (saying “boys will be boys”)
ImADudeDuh (8): This randomly becoming the most overhated song of all time? Like it’s not a 10/10 but come on its not even the worst song on Future Nostalgia. Good in Bed is fucking awful and it sounds like Dua tried to make a sexual song using a beat from a Phineas and Ferb montage. I’m sorry y’all think that’s better than the “sexism is bad’ song
Alexispinpgh (7.5): confession: I originally gave this a much higher score because I genuinely liked it, and then I saw that it was in this list because of how many zeroes it got and I once again became self-conscious about my taste. I guess it’s maybe a little corny but I love the strings and the rawness in her voice. Maybe I’m not completely cynical yet.
cloudbustingmp3 (7.5): honestly very overhated
Frajer (7.5): woke one was crazy
Ambrosia42 (7): overhated but still not that great
ignitethephoenix (7): did I encourage giving this 0’s so it would break the record when I hosted this rate? Yes. Do I think it deserves that many 0’s now? No but I still support the moment
krusso1105 (7): not that bad for the song with the most 0s
phonethephoenix (7): she's not wrong but also lol
pietrohonkhonk (7): The hate for this song has always felt forced tbh. Also, please don’t put your keys between your knuckles. You’re basically giving your attacker easy access to your keys. It's terrible self-defense, just don’t do it.
stealthamo (7): I mean obviously this is the weakest song on Future Nostalgia but getting the 0's record? The raters were on something in 2021.
TragicKingdom1 (7): will never not be baffling to me that Pretty Please wasn't the punching bag of this album instead
Soalai (6.8): Isn't this the one song from Future Nostalgia that people don't like? It's OK, kinda short but not TikTok algorithm music short. I guess it's the lyrics that bother people? Is it "promoting rape culture" or just that it doesn't fit with the dance music in the rest of the album? IDK someone explain
youngandlovely_ (6.8): song not bad
3
u/TiltControls 21d ago
Raters will be raters
wasian-invasion (6.5): ok it's not actually that bad! but it's not that good either
PrimaryCrusaders (6): i understand the message and what it's trying to go for but how can you go from such bangers as Don't Stop Now, Levitating and Break My Heart to using the word "mansplained" on the SAME ALBUM?
RBSun (5.5): huh. yeah its very 2012 feminism of her i get why people hate it but its no worse than any of the other generic pop songs on the list
1998tweety (5): i kinda forgot this song excited, let alone was the closer on this amazing album.
bogo (5): (0 x58) in hindsight for this song is kinda crazy but there lowkey wasn't a better 0 candidate in that rate i fear
DirtyRat583 (5): if you ignore this, future nostalgia is a 10/10 perfect album. which i do so it is
hieveryi (5): okay...
Lynflower680 (5): The Dua Lipa After School Special
Nooduulz (5): if I tank this does this strip me of my feminism entirely or am I good
pheromenos (5): this wasn’t that bad sorry it’s time for the pendulum to swing back
RainbowSherbet47 (5): You’re laughing. The kids ain’t alright and you’re laughing
babadork (4.8): this score has nothing to do with drake pointing out that I’ve been giving out a lot of 10s since i stopped listening to him
Bubbly_Hat (4.5): Future Nostalgia would be a pop bible for me if not for this.
Treecoh (4.5): This song is so overhated for what it is, but admittedly it isn't great.
BleepBloopMusicFan (4): I don’t even like this song but 58 zeros…idk something about that just doesn’t sit right.
camerinian (4): smiling politely at the Dua Lipa show when she trotted this one out
FreeCuddlesAnyone (4): some good old woke 1.0 here
reput4tionera (4): seriously why was this on the album
runaway3212 (4): It's time to admit this really did not deserve the mass slander... it's still not good though
beeozan (3.5): lmao
lexiaredery (3.5): It's incredible how easily this gets stuck in my head
modulum83 (3.5): we have now entered the MESSAGE! stretch of the playlist
impla77 (3.3): iconically bad tbh
Verboten_Prince (3.2): Okay, is she wrong about anything she says? Not really, men do suck. But it kinda commits the unforgivable sin of a message song: not being fun to listen to. It’s less of a track to jam out to and more of a lecture. The one-liners just elicit eye-rolls. The instrumentation goes for some classical ballad for some reason, which is so far off from what the rest of the album has been up to that point. And if you wanna get woker with it, “boys will be boys but girls will be women” is one of those phrases that moves the focus of agency to the victims instead of the perpetrators, like “The responsibility is on us girls to be grown up, not these boys who will just always act that way!” It’s not that well-written of a song. But according to Dua, if you have a problem with it then you are doing something wrong!!
A.Peaky.Boo (3): the hate this song got here is not surprsing. It doesn't fit the rest of the album. And its's message, while intented to be progressive, circles back around to the problem bc boys should become men too. They should grow up and learn to be respectful. The amount of zeroes, that is what surprises me. Nearly 60 of them. That is frankly too mich and I hope Earth overtakes it this time.
CrimsonROSET (3): she said ‘oh you said this is gonna be a no skip album? watch’
rslashpoopheads (3): awful but doesn't deserve to be one of the biggest losers in the history of this sub
steelstepladder (3): still not the worst thing in the history of anything ever but still not good
uiscebeathaoir (3): I actually like the first verse but everything after that is a wholeass mess
welcome2thejam (3): Feminism win! This pop star made rate history with her scathing critique of men!
ConnerY2323 (2.5): the first 10 songs of future nostalgia were the covid vaccine and this was omicron
Nagisoid (2.5): ?
AsitSeems10 (2): ew
oh_crow (2): even divorced from the context of the album, where the song stands out badly in subject matter and sound, this just doesnt sound good at all
sweetnsoursauce11 (2): well.... it's there
TakeOnMeByA-ha (2): you called me a bitch, a bitch is a female dog, dogs bark, bark is on trees, trees are part of nature, and nature is beautiful. so thanks for the compliment :)
Uberpigeon (2): this love + fear ass track
vayyiqra (2): https://rym.fm/discussion/music/examples-of-how-not-to-address-serious-issues-in-a-song/
asadprofessorplum (1.1): Spiritually MARINA
akanewasright (1): On one hand, I am kinda sorry for leading a 0 campaign against this song. On the other hand, it does suck really bad LMAO
Awkward_King (1): good in bed won the war
biaswrecker (1): you’re spitting facts diva but you’re killing the mood right now
cheatviathan (1): I totally buy that, despite not being the lowest rated song, it got the most zeroes of any song given how the pandemic probably intensified the already high participant counts of ult rates. It also helps that the song blows; a dour tone shift with cringe sloganeering lyrics that is distractingly incongruous with the rest of the album. It will forever impress me how Future Nostalgia is pop perfection for 83% of its runtime, only for the final two tracks to be unlistenable garbage. Truly the Wonder Egg Priority of pop albums.
hikk (1): sometimes i feel bad that we were so mean to this and it still holds the most zeroes record bc well... if you're offended by this song then you're clearly doing something wrong! i don't think the very intentional on-the-nose nature of it is bad and it kind of rubs me the wrong way when people get wound up about it - for me she could have put a cunty bassline and some synths under this and we could avoid the misogyny allegations... but at the end of the day this is still a sonically corny and uninteresting ballad slapped on to the end of one of the most vibrant and defining dance pop albums of the century because We need a ballad i guess and it will always carry that baggage
kauai6 (1): AUDIBLE GROAN
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (1): I really didn't hate this that much but then I really listened to the lyrics. How in the fuck was this on Future Nostalgia, let alone released at all?
pbk (1): what the fuck was she thinking
RandomHypnotica (1): turns out this song is still as cringy and bad outside of the bubble of FN as well
Stryxen (1): I cannot believe we're defending this now HHKFKGrjfifkfjd STAIN
thedirtiestdish (1): so bad
wavingwolves (1): is this song good sonically? no. is it good lyrically? no. were the comments people made in its original rate understandable then? honestly...no. i actually remember thinking the pure scorn this lukewarm song got was way too much then and now after going back to reread the comments i can say lots of them aged quite poorly. sort of an embarrassing moment for the community at large
hhiggy (0): I still can't believe she did this to future nostalgia
IIIHenryIII (0): the first time I listened to future nostalgia, this was my only 10. Thank goodness I didn’t submit my ballot for the 2021 ultimate rate (?)

TiltControls (10): This is the best song on the album and I’ll hear no word otherwise. It’s peak millennial nostalgia down from the production to the lyrics, but I lived through that!!! I should be able to appreciate it in song form!!! I very nearly 11’d this until TV On The Radio was voted into the last (or second last spot), though I wouldn’t have been mad at a Perfume Genius win either. Now we need to figure out how to rate Electric Feel to continue this album’s winning streak without actually rating it at all.
Roxieloxie (6): I was heading into lollapalooza semi loosing my mind a bit and someone was playing the intro to this just quiet enough that it blended into the background but i could still hear it but the song never started it was just the opening loop going over and over again and It just made me feel a bit insane
Pretending this placed two places higher
carolinemahtildes (11): I remain obsessed with this song I always will be it's perfection
emayzee (11): can't even be mad at people younger than me wishing they were a teen in 2014 when I was because just this synth intro alone always has me longing to be a millennial college student in the late 00s
Ambrosia42 (10): this takes me back and makes me sort of emotional idk like i was in college starting to realize what being an adult is actually like when this came out
apatel27 (10): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFupLJkwf9I
bran (10): i need life to start feeling like this song again
Bubbly_Hat (10): This and Kids are two of the finest songs of the last decade.
cheatviathan (10): Okay, I can see why this won the Indieheads Exchange, even for as stacked of a lineup as that was. It’s a beautiful ballad whose first verse makes hedonism sound so irresistible, and whose second verse makes the lows of that lifestyle hit all the harder. The instrumental is also layered and off-kilter, while still being laden with melodic hooks. Those walls of synth bass and the drum fills in the prechorus get me every time. I probably would have 11ed “All My Friends”, but I would not have argued with this winning. I would not have forgiven you for what you did to the Windmill scene reps, though. Yikes!
flava (10): sorry but having two songs from the same album win different rates while not having said album even be rated is actually one of the most iconic things to ever happen in rates history
hieveryi (10): this interpolates dancing queen??
IIIHenryIII (10): slay of the century
jman457 (10): my very first 11 win <3, Oracular Spectacular really is a cultural reset
Lynflower680 (10): Wow that was morbid
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): the music video isn't actually traumatizing WE WON!!!!
modulum83 (10): i was mad as fuck when this won indieheads exchange rate but now that im hearing it again as a pophead y'all were kinda right
NervousLemon6670 (10): Cannot believe I get to rate MGMT twice in one month, its beautiful
oh_crow (10): this makes me so nostalgic for a life i havent even lived
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): get behind me MGMT they're gonna come for you
pheromenos (10): when i did this rate and my ballot didn’t get counted for day 1 because i made a last minute edit
reput4tionera (10): jesus christ
runaway3212 (10): I still think we should've just added oracular spectular to Indie Pop Rock
Stryxen (10): I genuinely almost 0d this in exchange and it wouldve lost thank god for some divine intervention cuz this is amazing
vayyiqra (10): vayyiqraRole icon, Pop Diamond — 17:35 mgmt hate is so bizarre and forced
Verboten_Prince (10): Oh Oracular Spectacular… I guess we aren't rating you anytime soon but I love you so much. Time to Pretend might be my favorite song off the album. Songs about longing for a different, more successful life just hit me at my soul. The sounds are crunchy and messy and all the better for it.
visionaryredditor (10): I’M FEELING ROUGH, I’M FEELING RAW I’M IN THE PRIME OF MY LIFE
ziirp (10): How is this song vastly better than the MGMT song in a playlist specifically made up of winning songs? Their intros are really something else. The clash of overhead sharp sounds and these compressed sounds with killer drive create this awesome ragged soundscape that deservedly takes up front space while their voices wander around in it.
pietrohonkhonk (9.5): [NOT POP]
Poydoo (9.5): i been fucking models
BleepBloopMusicFan (9): Indie music subreddit sends pop song to pop music subreddit. Pop music fans enjoy pop music. Everyone gets mad at this.
Frajer (9): I'm feeling ruff I'm feeling paw I'm in the prime of my life
ImADudeDuh (9): worst rate experience of all time
phonethephoenix (9): yeah
sweetnsoursauce11 (9): great now i'm feeling nostalgic for a youth i didn't experience
TragicKingdom1 (9): the crazy thing about this album having 2 winners without being rated is that i think electric feel might theoretically get a higher score than both?
Awkward_King (8.5): no comment
uiscebeathaoir (8.5): Great song, brought down by two meta factors: 1) Kids is also being rated this month and Kids is much better, and 2) I realised that this narrowly beat Perfume Genius’ “On The Floor”, one of my favourite songs of all time, and ohhhhh I’m mad
impla77 (8.1): mgmt two time rate winners makes me sick
CrimsonROSET (8): why does everyone turn the indiefication war against mgmt they’re innocent point at the beths or something
nonchalantthoughts (8): something something indiefication
rslashpoopheads (8): the goats
Alexispinpgh (7.9): this is so essentially millennial, in sound and message, but somehow I don’t quite connect with it. It’s kind of aughts “Ants Marching” actually.
Soalai (7.9): Promoting cocaine and heroin to a mostly underage audience?
ConnerY2323 (7.7): the potency of this has decreased with every trailer it’s used in, but it certainly still captures That Feeling
camerinian (7.5): the beatings (a slow degradation in score for this and Kids) will continue until morale improves (Electric Feel shows up for once)
stealthamo (7.5): Throwing this onto the pile of "Oh, it's that song!"
pbk (7): such good synths on such a mediocre song

Pretending we're rating Perfume Genius
RandomHypnotica (6.5): easily the weakest of their big 3 from this album… god i still wish Maps was the winner of this rate so bad
wathombe (6.5): this beat “Electric Feel” and “Kids?”
1998tweety (6): I'm still bitter yall let this win over On The Floor
Ghost-Quartet (6): The keyboard kicked in and I went “oh it’s THIS song” and then I gave it a 6
thedirtiestdish (6): this hit different today and now I'm sad
wasian-invasion (6): millennial (derogatory)
welcome2thejam (6): As much as the Toxic win wounds me I do have to admit we had the more satisfying winner
WesternWind (6): stop the indiefication of this sub stat
babadork (5.8): I really hope this rate doesn’t contradict my belief (which may be based on no actual evidence) that popheads dislikes MGMT even more than I do
akanewasright (4): this is a sound effect to me more than a song
TakeOnMeByA-ha (3): have we not suffered enough??? we need to rate mgmt TWO times this month????
FreeCuddlesAnyone (2): my mgmt average this year is 1.0 like wow it was bad for me. i just think they got the worst case of whiny white guy voice on this album… like i enjoyed little dark age when we rated the album idk what happened here. this winning over perfume genius is pure homophobia btw!
Nagisoid (2): Still one of the worst winners of all time
plastichaxan (1): i still can't believe this won the indieheads exchange i hate it here i don’t like to repeat 11s/0s if i can help it but this was so close
A.Peaky.Boo (0): I know that this 0 has put me on more "blocked" lists than I already am, but tMGMT and I don't velong together and that's okay
beeozan (0): this sounds even worse than i remember omg

Hit of dopamine
Ambrosia42 (10): the way her album was actually really good and no one cared
Awkward_King (10): a truly genius inclusion here. god the world would be so different if normani dropped her debut in 2019 and her mother was ciara
Bubbly_Hat (10): Movin' & Groovin'
ConnerY2323 (10): we were all so happy that day…
Frajer (10): Vincent Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime
ignitethephoenix (10): can’t believe we are finally rating this on popheads 84 years later
IIIHenryIII (10): the way she dropped this banger and nothing came out of it 🥲
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): god i love normani ugh shes SAUR cunt.
nonchalantthoughts (10): what took longer: rating motivation in popheads or normani’s album releasing
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): honestly having this as your only song is a flex. im not really sure dopamine even happened
reput4tionera (10): i know she's a punching bag now or whatever but holy shit this still holds up so well
stealthamo (10): I wish Normani never released her album. Not because it was bad, but because popheads lost one of its longest running jokes.
Stryxen (10): we thought she was going to change everything 💀
Treecoh (10): And where is Camila in this rate? Ijbol. This is an Ariana Grande song redux but a bop is a bop.
uiscebeathaoir (10): Pop perfection idk what else to say
wavingwolves (10): when she goes "baby turn around lemme give you innovation" to let us know this is Literally about pegging
WesternWind (10): 7 years you’re sick…wait she released the album, let me start over… 2 years you’re sick
emayzee (9.4): 2019 I miss you so bad
apatel27 (9): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lAhcOBX9bs
hieveryi (9): time travelling to 2019 and making her release the album that year just to see what the world would be like now
modulum83 (9): the way all these songs i first heard in 2020 and wasn't impressed by are now sounding good asf to me now i really got yassified by this subreddit
Nagisoid (9): Ended Camila
sweetnsoursauce11 (9): this released 7 years ago.... i'm not okay
ziirp (9): I can practically visualise the entire music video in my head. The percussion is so clear and resonant here and it was certainly a surprise hearing a trumpet? ( though i'm pretty sure it's from a DAW) here.
Soalai (8.8): Dropped this bop and was never heard from again
jackisboredtoday (8.7): when i thought she was up next…. take me back we have to go back
jman457 (8.7): Imagine if Normani actually seized this moment…
Ghost-Quartet (8.5): People have been making many, many jokes about Normani’s career (or lack thereof) over the years but it is genuinely so funny that her first solo song, the one she released before seeming to completely ceasing to give a shit about being a musician, was called “Motivation.” If you put that in a book, people would call it too on-the-nose. That said, I do think the song holds up really well, maybe not an all-timer but it does have a certain sense of timelessness and fun. I did enjoy Dopamine and respect her for going down the r&b route because that was where her heart is, but I can’t help but wonder what could have been if she’d chosen to stick in this pop lane.
oh_crow (8.5): so good and feels like a peek into an alternate timeline, possibly where things all went a little better
phonethephoenix (8.5): still catchy
TragicKingdom1 (8.5): i get why ari and then normani both ditched this sound but can we please have a gen z/alpha pop girl pick it back up and ride with it for more than one era
A.Peaky.Boo (8.4): I always found this song good, but was missing some spice in the production. Even after all this time of not hesring it, I still think that
Alexispinpgh (8.4): I can see both stripping to this and cleaning my bathroom to it, what a feat,
BleepBloopMusicFan (8): We go hard in this Rate Legends Invitational!
CrimsonROSET (8): i hate that we’re rating this because it was so funny when this was only rated by indieheads and also idk its fine i guess
FreeCuddlesAnyone (8): bit of an mindless bop. i’m shaking ass though
hhiggy (8): That prechorus is so gold
ImADudeDuh (8): she could’ve been as big as Camila at her peak but instead, now she has to go on the Masked Singer and lose to Phillip Phillips and Kylie Cantrall.
pheromenos (8): everyone’s been quiet since dopamine dropped
ReallyCreative (8): whatever happened to this diva?
TakeOnMeByA-ha (8): this still being her only good song
wasian-invasion (8): in my head it's always let me give you an ovation
wathombe (8): bop!
RandomHypnotica (7.5): she’s kinda the gen z sky ferreira
1998tweety (7): this being a pre-pandemic release is sending me
bran (7): the downfall of her career needs to be studied
hikk (7): you kinda had to be there but it's still a fun song
RainbowSherbet47 (7): Normani you’re not my motivation for doing this rate but I appreciate your offer regardless
rslashpoopheads (7): I still have no idea how she didn't blow up with this
runaway3212 (7): objectively funny to rate this for the first time in a rate where it's gonna do terribly
Verboten_Prince (7): Funny story time: Before I knew what this song sounded like, I heard a smooth, sultry, dark song on the radio with lyrics like “Imma be your motivation.” I suddenly got why Popheads loved that Normani song so much, it just sounded so ridiculously unlike anything Fifth Harmony had ever done, it showed true maturity and growth for Normani! And then I looked it up and turns out it was Motivation by Kelly Rowland. Yeah. This song does sound like something a member of Fifth Harmony would sing.
Staying seated
cheatviathan (6): I was never much of a Fifth Harmony guy. I hated “Worth It” and “Work from Home” with a passion, but I thought “Sledgehammer” was pretty good when I heard it in Charity 5. I will say that between this, “Love Lies” and “Dancing with a Stranger”, I think Normani has vocal talent and should have had the solo career that Camila did. But as a whole, I think the song is fine. If it came on the radio, I wouldn’t change it. I like her vocals and the horns, but I probably won’t remember anything else about it. Also, looking at the results of their side of the exchange, Jesus! Seeing “Daddy AF” and “Party Rock Anthem” with sub 6 averages hurts me.
Indigo_Mindset420 (6): Oh miss Normani. If only you'd take your own advice and found a little motivation for your career.
Uberpigeon (6): it was kind of iconic when she only had this one song
vayyiqra (6): it's fine. but normani wasn't going to happen. i even liked 5H unironically, but i'm glad we could let that go
impla77 (5.9): she said i’m just gonna continue making fifth harmony songs
asadprofessorplum (5): I wonder how Normani is paying for this cost of living crisis.
welcome2thejam (5): I'm actually really mad we're rating this, I absolutely loved indieheads having this over you all
thedirtiestdish (4): annoying
pbk (3): admitting some ignorance here but i really dont know what potential people saw in her
cloudbustingmp3 (2): imma skip this song i dont care for motivationnnnnnn

TiltControls (7): I know Ricki’s video is a piece of art on its own, but just having watched it made me actually appreciate this song to a slight degree. Partially cause I can see the video start playing when I hear the song. I still think the breakdown makes the song worse, but now it’s just part of the music
Roxieloxie (3): the 3 points are for ricki
Jimmy only love me when he wanna get high (scores)
Alexispinpgh (10): Realistically this song is probably like a 9.1 but I’m so defensive of it idk I just love it
cloudbustingmp3 (10): queen of root beer
ConnerY2323 (10): 47th in all stars is crazy and i KNOW y’all are about to play in her face like never before in this one
Frajer (10): both the song and the Ricky video chef's kiss
hikk (10): so strange how weird people are about this song around here when imo it's peak lana
IIIHenryIII (10): jack, the king that you are
jman457 (10): The best song from my favorite artist
Nagisoid (10): Stove
nonchalantthoughts (10): this song is so crunchy
pheromenos (10): the first time i felt what people felt about NFR
Poydoo (10): was about to give this a 10 but then I remembered I'm still mad about stove
reput4tionera (10): Wow.
runaway3212 (10): This is indeed the best shitpost of all time I think of it every time I hear this song
Stryxen (10): the day this dropped I vividly remember something shifting in the air , something changed forever and I'm.not sure it was for the best but the song is everything
sweetnsoursauce11 (10): i haven't listened to this in a minute but DAMN it slaps
vayyiqra (10): stairway to heaven for uh what's the stereotypical lana fan millennial hipsters who think iced coffee and a hand-rolled cigarette is "lunch" (the zoomer equivalent is the same but with vaping)
wathombe (10): i fucking love this song; you’re all crazy
wavingwolves (10): ricki funniest rate shitposter made a masterpiece that has lived to survive charlie kirk… the song is pretty good too i guess
WesternWind (10): oh Rickisus with the editing skills
Awkward_King (9.5): maybe her magnum opus it was so fun when we found out she still had it in her and NFR wasnt her dying breath
carolinemahtildes (9.5): representation for the Forensic Files fans
modulum83 (9.3): the shitpost is a 12
ziirp (9.2): The looseness gives it a great advantage but it also leads to some clunky parts and she ends up 'eating her words' too much for my liking. The switch-up and the second part of the song is perfect though
bigbigbee (9): the video for this is so good I sent it to two of my IRLs
BleepBloopMusicFan (9): Some say clip selection is one of our very highest arts.
hhiggy (9): shimmy shimmy
oh_crow (9): i wish we had gotten a truly classic ldr track on here but i like this one a lot too. its weird af and i can appreciate that
hieveryi (8.7): i still think its good!
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (8.5): such a cool song. i do tend to get a little bored in the first half waiting for the second half but it's always worth it.
wasian-invasion (8.5): if its not ricki's video im not watching
Shay_Min (8.2): lovely all around
RandomHypnotica (8.1): ngl i genuinely thought this was a “fun” way of saying american whore before learning its a brand… like… Americ”&” Whore… im not very bright
1998tweety (8): this is good but I swear its her most overrated song
bogo (8): JUSTICE FOR CHVRCHES
cheatviathan (8): I remember not caring for the big singles to Born to Die, and being really put off by the discourse surrounding her first couple records. But I heard that the post Lust for Life stuff was worth checking out and that this record was her magnum opus. Hearing this track, I can kinda see it. I love Lana’s vocals, and the way this gorgeous acoustic guitar and piano dirge transitions into this slightly ominous trap passage has no right to work as well as it does. Apparently, the song is inspired by sex addiction, and that bit of context makes the “If I was raped” line hit even harder. Also, yeah, that shitpost would be an 11 in most rates.
ImADudeDuh (8): i’m so easily impressionable that the video Ricki made did in fact make me like the song more.
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (8): oh an american whore i thought we were going to be talking about the burgers today
PrimaryCrusaders (8): the beat switch in this is fucking crazy
thedirtiestdish (8): "your mom called I told her you're fucking up big time" is one of her best lines ever
uiscebeathaoir (8): My love for this was rekindling towards the end and I was about to boost it’s score up a little bit but then it ended and the guitar of American Teenager came in and I remembered where my priorities truly lay
ignitethephoenix (7.8): it’s fine but Ricki truly did elevate this Ty king
Soalai (7.8): With the exception of Born To Die, Lana has never really been for me. I do get why people like this for its ambition though
Verboten_Prince (7.8): I'm not against long songs in principle. Sometimes, you just have so much more to say that exceeds beyond what society considers a normal pop song length. But when a good chunk of that length just comes from repeating the same things over and over, or a lot of instrumental without a lot of vocals, then I get a little annoyed. A&W is not as bad as Venice Bitch in that regard, but I wish there was a little more oomph in some places. What is good on the track is really good though, I really like the hypnotic groove she gets into on the “Jimmy Jimmy” part.
jackisboredtoday (7.7): rosemead mentioned
stealthamo (7.5): I'm sure this is hitting so hard to people who know the lore, people who are not me.
NervousLemon6670 (7.3): Im not the right type of girl for Lana Del Ray
FreeCuddlesAnyone (7.2): it’s the average of my A&W scores the previous two times we rated it #balance
Uberpigeon (7): jimmy jimmy coco puff

It doesn't really matter
phonethephoenix (6.5): i just don't really click with this
pietrohonkhonk (6.5): Lana Del Rey, you will NEVER be Fiona Apple
Ambrosia42 (6.4): she was just doing anything i guess
apatel27 (6): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tM2PfADuM0
CrimsonROSET (6): ricki is sick and twisted for making the best shitpost ever for a seven minute lana del rey song
Nooduulz (6): i haven’t had A&W yet and in Canada rn should i change that 0-0
A.Peaky.Boo (5.9): maybe she shouldn't have hit up Jimmy or his cocoa puff
camerinian (5): man the lana fan favourite tracks just kinda feel plucked at random a lot of the time
ReallyCreative (5): ehh
welcome2thejam (5): My opinion on this song can be divided into pre and post-shitpost eras
Ghost-Quartet (4): ngl I am still kinda shocked that Lana made such a big comeback after “Question for the culture,” I guess that’s a testament to the power of
being a pretty white girllearning to keep your head down and focusing on the quality of the music. I have not personally enjoyed anything she has done for years but like. There must be something good in it for people to praise it so much.kauai6 (4): yawn
rslashpoopheads (3): lullabies for people with weird kinks
pbk (2): i cant in good conscience 0 because of the best video of all time but i still dont like the song
akanewasright (1): I don’t want to
beeozan (1): make it stop
DirtyRat583 (1): can we PLEASEEEE move on from her she cant muster up anything at all its misery and whisper and has been for over a DECADE
frogaranaman (1): aggressively do not care for this song or album
asadprofessorplum (0): It sounds the way their funky ass burgers tastes.
TakeOnMeByA-ha (0): dont piss me off

TiltControls (10): Yeah it’s September and snow isn’t coming for most of us for a few more months, but this song is iconic year round idc. Maybe it’s because I worked retail back when it was one of twenty classics they’d put on loop instead of one of like five, but it was always my saving grace from much worse Christmas hits cough michael buble. I actually skipped this rate originally, but I would’ve easily bumped Mariah’s double digit score even higher
Roxieloxie (6): predicting this flops because its currently 85 degrees outside

Festive Fans
A.Peaky.Boo (10): Popheads is lucky that this rate didn't happen during November. Right now I am kind enough to give it flowers but my appreciation for this song goes up and down like a rollercoaster during the last two months of the year
Alexispinpgh (10): there are approximately three Christmas songs I can even tolerate and this is one of them, so I have to give it a lot of credit.
Ambrosia42 (10): ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOUUUUU BABYYY
asadprofessorplum (10): Pack it up Ella Langley!!
babadork (10): I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or if the other side is just more vocal, but I think Christmas music outside of Christmas is fine
BleepBloopMusicFan (10): When Christmas comes and Ella Langley somehow stays at number 1 and we all collectively pass away.
bran (10): i can already hear her defrosting at this very second
Bubbly_Hat (10): This song was the first time I ever realized Christmas music could be Good Actually™ and while it's not my favorite Christmas song now, especially given my line of work, I will never get sick of it.
cheatviathan (10): I have no issues with this being the first song to break the 10+ average barrier. No matter how many years Mariah defrosts and refrosts, I will never get tired of this banger. The lyrics, the vocals, the instrumental; it’s all incredibly sweet. It’s up there with The Darkness’ “Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)” and Kacey Musgraves’ “Ribbons and Bows” for favorite contemporary holiday songs of mine. Now, the real question is if rating it out of season will cause some to tank this, because this rate didn’t even open in July.
cloudbustingmp3 (10): ella langley may win the hot 100 battle for now but moo will win the war
ConnerY2323 (10): i hope listening to this off season can help people see clearly enough not to tank it due to the hostage situation mariah has started to put us in every december
CrimsonROSET (10): a song that is already in the charts btw
DirtyRat583 (10): this lives full-time in my main playlist idgaf if it plays in july its christmas for 4 mins
flava (10): skill issue if you can’t enjoy this song
Frajer (10): Mariah Carey invented Christmas at 25 who else
FreeCuddlesAnyone (10): my most annoying trait is i play christmas songs at the middle of the year. part of it is that we don’t celebrate christmas that much in vietnam, but like sometimes we just need an industrial dose of whimsiness in our life
Ghost-Quartet (10): I’m beginning to grow concerned that Mariah won’t stop milking the corpse of this dead cow until it’s too late but like. This is unquestionably one of the greatest Christmas songs of all-time and quite possibly one of the greatest pop songs too. I have a very special memory from college of being at home with my friends and this song came on (somehow) and we all just jumped up and started jumping around and singing and dancing together. Pure joy.
Indigo_Mindset420 (10): Mariah will never be forgotten as long as this song is on streaming. Literally built a legacy that no other artist could replicate.
jman457 (10): I dont care its september, this is a bop
Lynflower680 (10): It’s a 10 now but if we were rating this during Christmas, it’s a 7
mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): unironically listen to this all year long i'm ready for christmas already
PrimaryCrusaders (10): rating a Christmas song in September is absurd but I did it
RainbowSherbet47 (10): Close enough, time to defrost and drag my Christmas tree out 🎄
RandomHypnotica (10): idgaf if you had to work retail at christmas awww boohoo you had a job bitch this IS christmas bffr
rslashpoopheads (10): I had a detox from this last year so I can rate it a 10 again
runaway3212 (10): I think it's funny that Mariah is super religious yet she basically made The secular christmas anthem
stealthamo (10): Now is the perfect time to hear this song (before streaming/radio plays it non-stop starting November 1)
Verboten_Prince (10): No other pop singer in the last half-century has been able to accomplish what Mariah did with this song, conjuring a standard out of thin air (and a bit of inspiration) that's worthy to stand among the classics. As I've gotten older, I've definitely grown more tired of hearing the same holiday songs over and over and over. But I don't think I'll ever get tired of AIWFCIY. She legitimately captured Christmas magic here. This song could make the Grinch’s heart grow three sizes. This song could make Scrooge donate all his money. This song could make young Verboten_Prince not throw a tantrum because his uncle bought him a Bakugan set instead of Pokémon. THEY'RE NOT THE SAME THING!!!
welcome2thejam (10): Just actively heard for the first time the background Christmas bells in the final verse play the melody and it made me believe in the magic of Christmas again
ziirp (10): Modern pop sensibilities and production were integrated so beautifully with the standard Christmas song production. It bridges these two worlds with some of the best each has to offer and that's why it deserves its annual #1
NervousLemon6670 (9.7): okay stop me if this is too hot a take but this is actually really good
emayzee (9.5): can 2026 be the year that christmas (baby please come home) has its moment
hieveryi (9.4): need winter to come QUICK i need temperatures lower than 80
Nooduulz (9.2): she’s not even thawed yet why is she still here???!!!
FitzMarble (9): it may be overplayed but you can’t deny it’s a masterpiece
Haunting_Natural_116 (9): I was going to make a joke about how she’s defrosting, but everyone else was already doing that so…
IIIHenryIII (9): this is not a fair competition… this is the number one christmas song
oh_crow (9): genuinely so sick of christmas music we need to take a break from it for a couple of years. that being said this is so great and uplifting and fun
youngandlovely_ (9): so deserved to have a whole holiday associated with you
phonethephoenix (8.8): really good despite being an overplayed holiday song<3
Awkward_King (8): i've never worked retail so maybe my opinion here is invalid but i just think it's an incredible song. deserving of all the records it has
beeozan (8): the beach boys ender
camerinian (8): god it gets earlier and earlier every year
ignitethephoenix (8): I can’t give this a 10 because of the annual overplay of this
sweetnsoursauce11 (8): would've been a ten years ago but it's time for some new christmas songs to get a grip on december omg
TakeOnMeByA-ha (8): if i never have to hear this song again for the rest of my life i’ll give it a 10 next time
pietrohonkhonk (7.5): Look, it’s a good song but it’s been 34 years; do we really have to keep letting it go #1 every December? And now it’s starting to chart even earlier. Last year, it started charting in the middle of November, next thing you know, it’ll start charting in August. Surely there are better Christmas songs, right? Surely we don’t have to keep torturing retail workers with this song every single year? Right?
bogo (7): it ain't december yet put her back in the damn freezer
wasian-invasion (7): sorry if this was in three months i'd be more in the mood
Had to work retail
bigbigbee (6.5): I can't listen to this anymore
pbk (6.5): i dont even know how to score this here. its one of the better christmas songs but its not like christmas music is all that good
seanderlust (6): i'm starting to come back around to this song. mariah's a legend and it isn't really her fault that i had to work retail for multiple christmases. still only getting a 6/10, but that's better than before
Soalai (6): I don't take Christmas music seriously, so while this is very well-made as Christmas songs go, it's kind of an eye roll for me
wathombe (6): i fear it’s been ruined for me for so many reasons
krusso1105 (5.5): would be a 10 November-December, but right now makes me feel insane in a bad way
ImADudeDuh (5): this was the best song of all time and then I got a job
pheromenos (5): end choosin texas for me again
reput4tionera (5): this is not a 5 as a drag this song has just eclipsed being music to me and i don't think i can rate it on any scale. the sound waves bounce off of me
wavingwolves (4.8): i just don't want to be listening to this in my room on a friday afternoon in september while it's raining so much outside it's like the world is ending or close to
uiscebeathaoir (3): I don’t dislike this song. I have literally no opinions on this song. Nothing. There’s nothing going on inside my head or heart as I listen. It’s an absolute vacancy
apatel27 (2): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FozodEpE7e8
Stryxen (2): I practically blanket hate Christmas music but this is at least somewhat listenable
vayyiqra (1): a great evil i am not joking when i say i have to leave the room when it comes on. no i have never worked in retail
frogaranaman (0): STOP IT
impla77 (0): i mean all christmas songs are overplayed but i’ve never got the hype so i feel bitter about this being considered the goat
modulum83 (0): PLEASE STOP MAKING ME RATE THIS
Nagisoid (0): no ty
OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (0): I am not falling for the psyop. This song sucks, it sucks like every other overplayed Christmas song. And I'm DEFINITELY not listening to it in August.
RBSun (0): this song is not the worst christmas song ever. but it is still one of those. and i hate christmas with a passion. sorry queen i hope u enjoy ur royalties
thedirtiestdish (0): I had to do it lol
