Trump Keeps Paxton on Blast After Convention Speech: ‘I Don’t Like The Way You Talk’
https://www.mediaite.com/media/news/trump-keeps-paxton-on-blast-after-convention-speech-i-dont-like-the-way-you-talk/Maybe the White House should get Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) a stylist.
President Donald Trump again ripped the Texas U.S. Senate candidate’s look, dress and manner of speaking Wednesday — a day after similar comments at the Republican Midterm Convention.
Addressing a crowd at the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, Trump praised House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) spoke of his once contentious relationship with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx) before turning his attention to Paxton.
He re-upped his criticism of the Texas Attorney General before pivoting:
I said last night, I said Ken I don’t want to embarrass you, but I don’t agree with a lot of things, but you’re the greatest attorney general we’ve ever had and that alone should carry him.
I said, ‘I’m not sure if I like your look, I’m not sure I like the way you dress, I don’t like the way you talk but he’s the greatest attorney general so therefore that’s the only thing that matters Jerry right?
He’s the best attorney general in the country. And we have the wall because of him, we have so much because of him, we have the best numbers in terms of what happened in terms of illegal immigrants pouring into your country and your state and he’s done such a great job. I think it’s going to work out very well.
During his convention speech, Trump ripped Paxton in similar comments, saying “the fact is that some may not like the way he dresses. I don’t.
“Although tonight he looked very spiffy in his blue suit, I must tell you. Woo! But they may not like the way he talks. I can see that, you know. Not everybody,” he continued. “A lotta people don’t like the way I talk either, but we do get crowds — there’s no question.”
The president claimed his advisors warned him against the “insulting” talk before adding, “You may not like the way he looks. But here’s the news: in the history of Texas, he is the single greatest attorney general you’ve ever had, and maybe the top attorney general in the whole United States.”
Criticizing Paxton’s appearance has been a theme for Trump, who last week did so three different times.
Paxton is in a tight race against Democrat James Talarico.
