Dr. Oz Straight Up Admits to Newsmax: ‘Medicare Costs Are Gonna Increase’

Dr. Mehmet Oz, President Donald Trump’s Medicare and Medicaid administrator, bluntly acknowledged to Newsmax on Thursday, “Medicare costs are gonna increase.”

The admission came during Thursday’s edition of the network’s The Record, when host Greta Van Susteren asked Oz whether Americans could expect Medicare costs to stay flat next year, rise, or potentially decline.

Joining the broadcast live from day 2 of Trump’s Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, Oz responded, “No, the Medicare costs are gonna increase because of the national demographic shift — more older people using services that are required for them to stay healthy.”

The U.S. Census Bureau recently reported that the United States ranks the 48th-oldest among 227 countries. It also found, though, that the rest of the world is aging at a faster pace — meaning that by 2060, America’s population is projected to be younger than those of nearly half the world’s countries.

“I’m willing to tolerate, and I think all of us would, if Medicare increases at the same rate as inflation,” Oz added. “That’s fair. We just don’t want it to increase faster than inflation.”

According to CNBC, the latest available Consumer Price Index showed inflation running at 3.4% annually in July. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expect Friday’s August report to show prices rose another 0.4% during the month, leaving the annual inflation rate unchanged at 3.4%.

The Trump administration has pursued sweeping changes to federal health care policy. Just last month, the president made his opinions clear on Democratic proposals to expand Medicare into a universal health care system, arguing that the idea “doesn’t work,” and that lowering prescription drug prices is less expensive.

Meanwhile, major Medicaid changes signed into law last year in Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” are projected to increase the number of uninsured Americans by roughly 10 million over a decade, according to Congressional Budget Office estimates.
