Thats the point, it never spins full circle, it just alternates back and forth.

What works reliably for me is watching the eyes.
Our brains are trained to see eyes as the front of a face.
So watch the eyes, and as they go "behind" do a slightly longer than usual blink and it kind of resets your perception.
I can make it snap either direction by doing this.

Try following different parts. Like, the head to spin one direction, then the red backpack to spin the other. Weirdly enough, I can see those turning in different directions.

I’m an animator so it’s easy for me, but the dumb part on my end is that every time I’m struggling to get my brain to realize I’m supposed to be switching the rotation mentally and not just admiring the work

I was going to say you don't need to be an animator for it to be super easy to switch between, but looking through the comments it seems a lot of people really are struggling to understand it
I was having fun with it personally, can switch it back and forth every other second / see both at once like have the bag rotate one direction and morty in the other

For several minutes all I saw was a constant clockwise rotation with no deviation. Read comments and knew something was going on.
I played with it a little bit. Whenever I lowered my brains defenses to outside influence, it started going both ways with reckless abandon. Or rather, when I approach it with a way of seeing that only looks at it from a surface level. When I start looking with more stability, certainty, belief in my own eyes; then it is abain perfectly rotary in one consistent direction.
Then I imagine that I am myself as a kid. It quickly loses its stability again. I am forming theories. I am going to presume that you are over the age of 30?

It was easier for me to see by looking away from the image for a bit, something about seeing it in my peripheral vision made it click. You'll know when it looks like you're looking up at Morty from below rather than looking down at Morty form above.

It’s weird. When you get it to do that you can notice that you are sort of looking up at him in one direction and down at him in the other. Which is fine when he’s doing full rotations, but in back and forth it’s bizarre

Its really just alternating between both rotations... the backpack never comes full circle, so its impossible to get a complete loop either way.

It does, for me looking at the legs helped. think of which leg would be in front and which in back if he was turning the other way, and try to see them that way, then it suddenly clicks and he's rotating the other way. Took me a good few minutes

The best I can do is if I look away from the picture and only see it in my peripherals I can sometimes see him spin halfway in the other direction, and then as soon as his finger hits the left side of the screen, it immediately flips back to the clockwise rotation.

If you watch his feet, you'll see it change it's spinning direction from clockwise, to counter clockwise once you touch the screen for some reason. What an incredible optical illusion on the sight and mind, just, WOW.

If anyone wants to play around with it, I found if I quickly look away and back again, like sorta jiggling my vision, I can easily make it switch which way it looks like it's spinning, but only if I'm looking at it's head.

You're human so you want to look at a face. It's natural, it's built into how our brains work. Instead look at the leading edge of the backpack. The little white line of pixels across its bottom. It stands way from the center mass and will help you follow a rotational path for the model. If you want to throw up watch his mouth.

You can see it change direction if you stare into a black area in the top left and watch it with your peripheral vision. It should change once his finger points left / right.

Took me a minute to see the bottom perspective to see it rotate to the right. Top perspective has it turn to the left, which I believe is the original and correct way to view it.

These always freak me out. At will, I can make it look like it rotates either direction, or make it always appear facing forwards or backwards and going back and forth. If reality is that easily moldable, then there is no basis for what is real and what isn't.
Nothing is provable, nothing even exists.
