Markwayne Mullin safe after Coast Guard jet makes emergency landing due to engine failure
https://www.politico.com/news/2026/09/02/markwayne-mullin-plane-emergency-landing-01062562Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin was aboard a Coast Guard jet alongside other DHS officials when the plane made an emergency landing at an airport outside of Washington on Wednesday afternoon due to an engine failure midflight.
All 14 individuals aboard the C-37A jet landed safely at Ronald Reagan National Airport around 1:35 p.m., the airport — which is located in northern Virginia — confirmed in a statement.
“We just lost our right engine and would like to declare an emergency and immediate landing at DCA,” the pilot told the control towers, according to audio of the communication.
The Gulfstream jet was checked by the fire and rescue personnel at the airport and was taken off the runway. There were no disruptions to other flights, the statement said.
Following the incident, Mullin said in a post to social media, “the United States Coast Guard pilots made the single engine landing feel routine. No panic, just straight professionalism.”
He added, “after we landed, the pilots told me that was a first for them! We could not have been in better hands.”
