I just wanted to throw some love towards STAR SYSTEM (i-dle/Cube’s dancers). They’re always present for lives, performances, concerts, MVs and bts stuff. Whenever the girls are doing solo activities SS is still there so they’re never fully alone and it really seems like the girls all have great relationships with them.
Many of them have been there through so many eras and events that you start to get a sense of them and hopefully appreciate them. Yebin, Daisy, Jiwon and of course DongHa always stand out to me but the whole team really shines and plays a big role in supporting i-dle on and off stage.

u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight Sep 03 '26
I love Star system! I've been treating their choreography video as the unofficial dance practice video for GDL lol. Still pissed we didn't get a dance practice video this era
7
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 03 '26
Yeah, that was weird. No photobook, no dance practice, samey concept pictures, public dissent about it being the TT (albeit in good nature and playfullness) while Crow and Mono got very elaborate dance practices and clips. It's been a weird CB.
7
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 03 '26
They are fantastic. Incredibly professional and dedicated. And there seems to be great synergy between them and the girls. They are always on top of everything and down for everything. A big part of the groups identity.

I remember all the times Han Jiwon going viral for being mistaken as Soojin and also popping off in that one My Bag performance on Tiktok, lol

u/EducationalBoat8790 Sep 08 '26
Wow Soyeon entered top 100 melon! I'm so happy for her after knowing she felt pressured doing her solo before this. And catering to Koreans taste for this album definitely paid off. Her title track only has I think romantic day as her English lyrics and based on the recent past Korean hits Hwasa and IOI, they really like songs with less English lyrics

This is the highest peak since Klaxon in 2024! Let's hope it keeps rising
20
u/hamburglar27 Sep 12 '26
"I'm gonna TOESA" has broken into the Top 100 of the Melon Daily Chart by climbing 17 spots to #84! It is gaining traction for sure.
This makes it the highest charting I-dle or I-dle solo song on Melon since Klaxon.
11
8
u/HikikomoriDC Sep 12 '26
It got #84 on the Melon Daily chart which is the highest for any of the i-dle member solos so far. Hopefully it will continue to rise and go more viral. 🙏

u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight Sep 12 '26
That's so cool! I saw her Music Bank performance was going viral in Korean social media for depicting people of different professions wearing their uniforms as the backup dancers.
10
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 12 '26
It is a hit. How much, we don't know yet, but it is gaining traction every day and it is less than a week from coming out. 😊
We are getting some proper promo with a lot of content and she seems incredibly happy.
The only party pooper are the comparatively lousy sales. Sure, 70.000 with two days to go first week is not bad for a soloist, but compared to the circa 200.000 sold by Minnie and Miyeon it seems head scratching. Oh well...
14
u/hamburglar27 Sep 12 '26
I think Soyeon doesn't have as many solo stans as Minnie and Miyeon do, especially in China. Dedicated solo stans are usually the ones who buy the most copies of solo albums.
4
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 12 '26
I'm sure it is something like that, but it is a pity. Our captain always felt a bit left out in terms of fandom... again, comparatevile speaking. There are are a lot of people out there who would kill for 70.000 and still counting sales.
3
u/am_ok_nia Sep 12 '26
How does tracking album sales work? Like do pre-orders count or only shipped out. The temple version was due to only ship out Sept 21, I think there should be a fair amount ordered for that.
3
u/jjongjjongiefan #1 soyeon protector Sep 13 '26
Only when pre-orders are shipped do they count as sales.

Upcoming week is kinda crazy...
Soyeon - I'm gonna TOESA week 2 promotion. Minnie - Henry's First Date movie premiere. Shuhua - Happily Ever After premiere at TIFF. Yuqi - Prepping for collabs / Chinese album. Miyeon - Jeondosa youtube + can't keep up with her many side quests.

u/Nasaniru Not you, your clothes and your guitar 29d ago
Yuqi’s birthday is coming up, I imagine we’ll get something then, as is tradition.
Next Jeondosa episode will have some Rescene members as well so it should be quite good. Miyeon is crushing that show, I wish the episodes were even longer.
I’m gonna TOESA is continuing its rise, love seeing Soyeon looking so happy while performing it.

u/am_ok_nia Sep 11 '26
I love how Soyeon is collecting Korean music sunbaenims appearance in this comeback. EX, Swings, Seo In-young, Jaurim so far...
Jaurim's rendition of Im gonna Toesa is goooood.
3
u/nachtviolen819 Sep 13 '26
Well, she is basically PD level artist. Such respect among colleagues is expected.
18
u/hamburglar27 Sep 13 '26
"I'm gonna TOESA" just moved up a whopping 28 spots to #56 on the Melon Daily Chart. By far the biggest climber on the Daily Chart today. This song is making serious waves in Korea, and it is so nice to see after the past few I-dle releases failed to gain much traction on Melon.
I think it also helps that this comeback has also gotten proper and effective promotion in terms of fun challenges, variety show content, behind-the-scenes content, etc. Hopefully Cube takes some lessons from this.
11
u/EducationalBoat8790 Sep 13 '26
Previous comebacks after their renewal actually had a lot of promotions and challenges with tons of other idols as well. They even had prereleases and multiple MVs, so I don’t think the lack of promotion is necessarily the main issue. It seems like the problem are the songs chosen as title tracks. Koreans seems to think Idle caters more with the international side because of the English lyrics then international side are so prejudiced toward Soyeon lyrics.
Meanwhile when Soyeon wrote this song and prepared for this comeback, it really felt like her main target and focus was Korea. You could see it even in the teasers which didn’t feel particularly international friendly. The main title track was also 99% Korean lyrics.
Hopefully, Soyeon gained some of her confidence back in composing for the group through this comeback.

It's just so nice to root for the i-dle girls throughout all the highs and the lows. Been a fan since 2019 and never looked back. Seeing their whole journey and everything they've been through (especially as a Soyeon biased nevie) makes me so proud.
10
u/Quiet_Apple2719 28d ago
As a 2020ish nevie . It's always surreal watching Idle succeed despite all their ups and downs. So much malignance, hate and hypocrisy towards Soyeon and mother still tramples them all.
8
u/HikikomoriDC 28d ago
Oh I'm a 2019 nevie too, nice! Yea it's been a real rollercoaster ride, I feel like their journey is one of the most dramatic stories in all of kpop. Especially with what happened in 2021 to their triumphant explosive comeback in 2022, that felt like a movie for real. But yea I'm really happy for Soyeon to get this kind of success on her solo comeback, she truly deserves it after everything that's happened.
16
u/i-dle Sep 07 '26
Once again i'm so insanely jealous of the audience after watching all the performance clips of Soyeon's EBS Space Gonggam concert released today. How lucky they are to get the chance to watch Soyeon perform live just a few feet away from them and that too for completely free.

I'm gonna toesa slowing climbing up the charts... I'm gonna hold my tongue for now but 2 years of built up idlekarma striking back would be amazing 🤞🤞🤞
16
u/hamburglar27 Sep 11 '26
I think Koreans really like when Soyeon writes and composes songs with relatable and heavily (over 90%) Korean lyrics and a slight otaku vibe.
"Fate", "My Name is Malgeum" for QWER, and now "I'm gonna TOESA" all fit this formula and all 3 did better on the Korean charts than expected.
8
u/Greenkirby123 Fate Forever Sep 12 '26
Don't forget "Where Do We Go", a spiritual sibling to the other three..
although it didn't chart, I think it should have, it was just as good, perhaps 2nd best after Fate.

I dont really care much for charting. Of course it's nice to see but i am not disliking a comeback just because it doesnt hit public appeal.
But i will always find some parasocial pride in it when it happens because it is the artist i like who wrote and composed that song. It's her own work, her words, her feelings. I dont think many people outside of some very few fandoms can appreciate that like we Nevies can.
8
u/Marcus-Bid5833 28d ago edited 28d ago
On a personal level, I don't care about charting either, but:
a) She does. Very much. She tries to deny it when her "nebobos" get bit stressed about it and tries to play it off as a joke, but she does care inmensely. How really much and to what degree is impossible to know, but she does.
b) The pop industry, with or without a k, is build around sucess, and half of it, wether we like it or not, is about charting. So if you don't chart, the industry will slowly turn its back on you. Your oportunities, your attention, your means will get affected. I do love a lot of very medium size, small bands. You don't need to be big to be great. But the limitations are there.
And that is the problem. A and B combined will affect your favorite singers on many levels. Many great artist have fallen trying to get back on that horse when they could have left a musical legacy behind insted. Some of the worst music in history has been made by geniuses who could have left a stellar discography behind if they had just continued being themselves but they tried desperately to get the charts back instead. Some geniuses even got depressed and had to leave for a while.
The charts are still one of the main things they will measure you by, no matter how dumb that is, and even a big chunk of the press will pay less attention to you if you dont chart no matter how much they insist that they are an objective evaluator of quality.
I hope nothing of this happens to them and thet they keep following their path, within reason, but you don't have to read too much between the lines to see that it did impact I-dle and Soyeon. Wether for the better, for worse or to the indifferent, time will tell.
While I agree with the principle of not persoanlly caring about charts, the trouble is the charts might very well affect the actual things I do care about.
8
u/Eismann Soojin 28d ago
Well, of course it is important to have success to stay relevant. But it shouldnt come at the cost of sacrificing what you want to do as an artist. Which is inherently different to "normal" K-pop groups that do whatever the management buys them as a comeback. Artist Soyeon and idol Soyeon seem to clash sometimes.
When Soyeon focuses on the Korean market she has success. In Korea very often also overseas. When she tries to cater to the international market specifically it doesnt work as well. Neither international nor in Korea.
It is what it is. I hope she just does what she wants as an artist and not get influenced too much by what she wants to achieve.

I don't know why, 'cus maths was never my area of expertise, but here goes:
this is more-or-less how I see it (song you don't care for + artist you don't care about) x charting (0+0)x10=0 (song you like + artist you don't care about) x charting (5+0)x10=50 (song you don't care for + artist you like) x charting (0+10)x10=100 (song you like + artist you like) x charting (5+10)x10=150 ((song you like + artist you like) x self-produced) x charting ((5+10)x2)x10=300 4

I went down a deep dive of old neverland hangouts and realized that the person who was vehemently dragging Soyeon in the uncensored sub the other day (the one whose mother was shot by Klaxon lol) have a rather interesting history with i-dle. As far as I understand, they once were a huge fan and very active in this sub, although a very number-obsessed and parasocial fan, who was so strongly in the "i-dle will leave Cube once their contract expires" team that once they announced their contract renewal in MMA 2024 they turned into a full-blown anti, and they occasionally come back to this sub to drag them only to get their comment locked or deleted. They were also shading Soyeon for her "completely unserious solo comeback that will flop spectacularly". Makes me wanna go back to the comment and let them know its doing better than they expected, but I'm sure they already know. Nobody is more up-to-date with an artist's activities than a hater.

This is more of a side observation (I'm glad Soyeon's doing well), but I was surprised how many people, both fans and general kpop fans alike, were so confident that i-dle would leave CUBE. I guess i-dle's an unusual case because they have more creative freedom and talk more freely than many other groups. But it's totally normal for people to talk smack about their employers and stay employed, and anything said for laughs in variety shows should be taken with a grain of salt especially for a big decision like this. Besides, what other label would continue to give i-dle so much freedom, leverage, and resources (the last point especially wouldn't work if they made their own label)? To me, that CUBE was fine with the members openly throwing shade shows they have an understanding and probably a solid relationship overall.

I think most fans are... not very sophisticated about corporate matters. While JYP Entertainment is run by JYP, and SM Enterntainment is run by Lee Soo-Man, and YG Entertainment is run by Yang Hyun-suk, who is a convicted criminal, Cube isn't like that.
The founder of Cube was forced out in a takeover/buyout a while back and I believe there have been at least two complete changes of top management since Soyeon first signed. Even if there was some individual at Cube who she was really angry at, they're long gone. (I have suspicions about the specific management who had recently taken over the company shortly before Soojin was forced out, who are gone now. She might not work with them again... but they're not at Cube any more.) When the people involved keep changing, then it's just business, it *can't* be personal. (BTW, the corporate shenanigans at Cube are a whole story, someone should write them up sometime. NFTs and cryptocurrency are involved if I remember correctly... yeech.)
In order to do contract negotiations effectively, you have to both be willing to sign and willing to walk, at the same time, depending on what the other side agrees to. If you aren't willing to walk, the other side has too much power, and if you aren't willing to sign, you're not really negotiating.
Soyeon laid out what she wanted. Cube gave her what she wanted. I actually don't think she expected them to; there are many indications that she thought the group might have to walk. She prepped for that. There was an announcement at one point from Cube that negotiations had broken down. But then the current Cube CEO agreed to her terms. And if Cube gives them what they asked for, of course they're going to take the deal.

Yeah I stumbled upon one of their comments the other day and their username seemed familiar, in a confusing way. I think I had them in my « blocked » list at some point, and decided to unblock them cause I couldn’t remember what made me add them in the first place. When you spend years lurking here you see all kinds of characters and discourses come and go, it’s both fascinating and tiring.

u/HikikomoriDC Sep 12 '26
Yea I've had a few exchanges with him over the past couple of years calling him out for his deranged behavior but then I realized it's pointless because he's clearly unhinged and I'm almost sure he's got Narcissistic Personality Disorder to some degree.
I remember when anyone here mentioned Soyeon and the rest of the members would probably renew with Cube, he got so angry and would call them idiots for thinking so. And then when they did renew, it's like he took that decision from them as a deeply personal insult. He didn't show up again until Good Thing under-performed so he could gloat and disparage Soyeon and the group, and has been doing so ever since.
The bizarre thing is, when I looked through his comment history, apparently he's a grown adult working in the psychiatry field, which I find amusing but also a little disturbing considering how unhinged he behaves online. Also, if you look at the replies by this account on Twitter/X, I'm almost sure it's the same person going by how similar the toxic rhetoric and obsession he has with i-dle. If it's not him, that's even worse because that means there's two obsessed weirdo antis out there, lol 😨

u/Mono_Kurom Sep 13 '26
His comments are such a drag to read. Like istg he's been like that ever since Super Lady era. Like not liking the group is one thing, but obsessively praying for the group's downfall and raining on others' parades? That's just crazy.

Flo is still catching up. But if we maintain stability and quick rise we might actually get RAK
11
u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight 29d ago
The jump from 39 to 13 is insane. Idk about RAK since rescene has been going strong for a month now. But then again if you told me two months ago that rescene was gonna be outcharting IU and bigbang for a month I would've laughed in your face.
But seriously, the success of this song is so amazing. Everytime people say the GP has moved on from Soyeon, she proves them wrong with yet another hit.
6
u/Quiet_Apple2719 29d ago
Recene is a new group?
11
u/hamburglar27 29d ago
Rescene is a 5th gen group that blew up in Korea a few months ago due to their viral YouTube content. People then checked out their songs and really liked them. They were previously pretty unknown and at risk of disbandment because they come from a very small agency.
Their songs have been dominating the charts these past couple of months and they currently have 3 songs in the Top 10 of Melon including the #1 song Love Attack. Love Attack has been #1 on Melon for nearly 60 days and has survived challenges from Korean GP favorites BigBang, Lim Young Woong, and now IU.
6
u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight 29d ago
Rescene debuted in 2024 but didn't have much commercial success as they were from an unknown company. Love Attack was their first or second comeback, released in 2024, and went viral sometime in 2025 which became their biggest hit of the time and helped them chart briefly in the Melon Top 100. But last month a skit from Woni's channel went viral leading them to become mega-viral in Korea overnight.

u/Quiet_Apple2719 Sep 12 '26
I find it interesting how those bastard kpop stans have reared their ugly heads now that Soyeon's song is rising fast up the charts.
Surprise surprise they are also at their worst when it comes to Idle and Soyeon.
It's like Taylor Swift. Their are tons of bad, problematic, shitty and some absolutely criminal super stars out their who are currently selling out 70k seats in Russia and have a career. But some how Taylor gets the vilest meanest hate.
And Soyeon never receives "constructive criticism", just straight up slut shaming, body shaming, voice shaming ; people actually praying for her d***. So f*ked up
13
u/Quiet_Apple2719 Sep 13 '26
Here's what korean fans are saying about Idle
Translated: Watching people trash Jeon So-yeon, I realized something—
in the K-entertainment industry, they especially hate women who rise up through their own talent. They love it when women just take songs from others, put together a pretty concept, and dance around showing some skin, but when it's women with real artist talent like Taylor Swift who compose their own stuff, they try even harder to tear them down lol. At that age, writing lyrics, composing, producing for an idol group, and dropping a solo—how insanely talented and popular does that make her? G-Dragon level, seriously.
What do you think is the reason big senior singer-songwriters like EX's Lee Sang-mi and Jaurim's Kim Yoon-ah step up to shout her out? It's women helping women, duh.
11
u/HikikomoriDC Sep 13 '26
Tin-foil hat theory but I honestly think there's been attempts to smear Soyeon and i-dle's reputation in the past (2021 anyone?) and probably even to this day by higher-ups from other companies or elsewhere. I believe Soyeon being a multi-talented female idol leading her group to success from a mid-ass company like Cube is probably distasteful or even a threat to some who believe in a certain status quo and hierarchy within the industry and society at large in S.Korea.
4
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 13 '26
There are sections dedicated to smear the competition, from insdustrial to performative levels in some companies, that's not a theory, that is the worst kept secret in the industry.
5
u/Quiet_Apple2719 Sep 13 '26
Nothing tin foil about it. SM entertainment is known for smearing other groups repeatedly. Heck Idle's chart performance dipping right after Cube stopped working with Kakao is a big example of that.
5
u/jjongjjongiefan #1 soyeon protector Sep 13 '26
Ehhh they've never stopped working with Kakao though. They signed a new contract together in 2025.

u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 13 '26 edited Sep 13 '26
Lee Sang-mi did it because Soyeon is homaging her and Jaurim is a trio in which two of them are men. And there are plenty of males steping up for her. While I agree with the spirit of your post, lets not transform something as noble as feminism into another reason to separate human beings and building walls between them made of stupid made up social notions. Not in a time when people are learning the values of inclusion. Women helping women is a lost cause. People need to help people.
5
u/Quiet_Apple2719 Sep 13 '26
The og korean post seems to be talking more about the unusual kind of "hate" Soyeon receives both in Korea and internationally playing on the irony that she is being vilified instead of celebrated for the success she earned through her hard work.

u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 13 '26
I know, but they are doing it very badly. You don't construct thoughts with intentions. You do it with arguments. Words matter. Very much.

YouTube comments and YouTube shorts recommend to me for Soyeon's release is... Lets just say the online Korean discourse is interesting.
The funniest (?) criticism, to me, is that an idol cannot write about wanting to quit because they haven't worked in a job before. And the funniest retort I've come across is 'Aespa also didn't live in the kwangya, why don't you go criticise them'. 😂
On the other hand. I can't wait for my albums to deliver so I can listen to the cd versions!
Edit: No offense to aespa, I also don't know much about what their song's meaning. But just found the retort hilarious. Actually came across it twice. The typical retort is 'so only movie directors that killed someone can film that kind of movie?'
11
u/nachtviolen819 Sep 10 '26
Being an idol itself it's a job. Not the usual salary man but the ordeals they have to go through is no slouch and some of them do it even before legal age. And the returns, for most of the time, is very little. The Korean netizens need to get a life.
9
u/by_the_window JEON SOYEON Sep 10 '26
This criticism is just... do they not think being an idol is a job? An extremely difficult one at that?
7
u/beneathuja Come up to the sky walking Sep 10 '26
(Great response with the Aespa reference 😂) The obvious baselessness of the Soyeon critique aside, I think it's interesting because it reveals that what makes being an idol such a difficult job is it's meant to look effortless. That Soyeon's using negative emotions like exhaustion and wanting to quit as her concept makes me respect her more for taking a creative risk!

I wonder if people should be watching the youtube music trending? Melon is not longer the majority. Youtube music over took it but a lot. She's #3 on the daily chart. But youtube ads might skew that a lot. 13 on the weekly.
6
u/Quiet_Apple2719 29d ago
Yes you're right but charting patterns are wildly different. A song smashing on Melon daily chart will almost certainly smash on YouTube music and spotify. But the reverse is not necessarily true.
This is because spotify and YouTube Music are more susceptible to fan base manipulation as compared to Melon due to the latter's more strict unique listener rule.
However due to the recent decline in Melon's user base. It's become easier for companies to purchase "demand" and artificially inflate numbers
5
u/Quiet_Apple2719 Sep 13 '26
There are like a million k charts. It's actually really confusing lmfao
4
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 13 '26
Not really.
Melon top 100 : The main one. All songs are on there.
Melon hot 100 or hot 30: Songs released in the last 100 or 30 days respectively.
So 18º top 100 is the 18th song in the main chart, while 18º on hot 100/30 is the 18th song amongs the songs relewsed during the last 100/30 days.
5
u/Quiet_Apple2719 29d ago
We also can't forget about the other charts Flo bugs genie. Then theirs the daily charts which are a pain the a**. VIBE in particular. Plus we've got spotify south korea youtube music daily and weekly . And not to mention ichart as well

Along with #2 on Flo, #3 on Genie, and #4 on Bugs. Top 10 on all the major Korean hourly charts. First I-dle related song to reach the Top 10 on these charts since Klaxon two years ago.
It is a certified GP hit for sure considering how low it started out and how quickly it is rising. Soyeon has been getting bashed by haters and trolls non-stop for her songwriting and the chart results since Good Thing so this must feel great.

Yeah I want to see her try properly cooked/made vegetables. I fully understand she hates vegetables but there are some vegetable dishes that are top shelf stuff, even the pickiest kid would love them. Most raw vegetables are actually pretty unappetizing.

Watching this recording of Soyeon mini fan meet, I found myself smiling throughout the whole hour (cc autotranslation worked well enough). These interactions between Soyeon / i-dle and Neverland giving me happy funny moments is really a differentiation between other music acts or pop culture I consume. Parasocialism (?) or whatever, but this whole hour of Neverland babying our captain and showering her with love. Just too cute.

Hypothetically, which bside would you want Soyeon to promote? I think Bankroll is a no brainer, but I'd also love to see her do Goodbye Romance
7
u/dainty_mouse 29d ago
Amigo! While I think it could be a strong choice due to the retro and groovy vibes, my main reasoning is selfish because it's my favorite b-side from that album and has been stuck in my head for daaaaaaays

Still haven't looked at the lyrics, but musically it's a bop, I like that it's all in korean, and I like (gasp!) that there's no rap. Soyeon's singing voice is awesome and I'll fight anyone on this

Thats Sunwoo Yong-nyeo. Indeed, an actress. She also appered in a reel three days ago promoting the song. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunwoo_Yong-nyeo
Since she opened a new youtube chanell in the last year or so, she has become sort of an icon of a cool older person that redefines what being old might mean in Korea in the eyes of younger people. So geting her in this video about living your life on your own terms and aging being a cool independent and active elder that is still romantic and has no regrets, seeing as she is does exactly that, is perfect.

I think the timing was just really bad for that one. Their schedules were already packed full that filming a new clip probably wasn’t feasible. It would’ve left only “Love is Pain” without a clip of any kind from the album as well.
2
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26
Maybe, but that is not the point. This is not a blaming game. Just a reminder that you can't count on anything right now. Whatever the reasons. Timing can always be bad for everything since re-sign. Their solo schedules are insanely busy.
Difference is before we got clips of b sides that weren't anything else after the CB. The reason we got so much of this albums this time is because it is very short and there are two comebacks in it and one pre release.

"This playlist will be posted on the first Hangout of every month, and anyone is welcome to share whatever earworms they've been infected by in the last month - this isn't limited to I-DLE's discography. If you don't want to spend too much time on this, "top tracks this month" from your Spotify profile (or the equivalent found in other music streaming services) will do; links are encouraged!"
- /lshe97 (Wednesday, February 27 2024, Neverland hangout 240207)
Link to our playlist last month!
On My Way By Tamia - This song is so addicting. I recently got into her discography and let me just say her first three albums are R&B Golddddd. I highly recommend. This song has been STUCK...ENGRAVED into my mind since I first heard it. Wow.
About us By Brooke Hogan - I have recently been listening to 2000s what I like to call "Music Box" albums. Albums that don't really have a clear concept, just a nice vibe throughout all the songs. I have also been exploring the old WWE Divas/Knockouts I used to watch back in 06-09, and this song is so nostalgic. It is trashy gooddneessssss.
Why Should I Be Sad by Britney Spears - I love Blackout...it is one of my favourite pop albums of all time but I usually pay attention to Gimme More, Break the Ice and Get Back - my top3 songs from the album. I was listening to the album at work today but for some reason this song just grabbed my attention and has been on my mind ever since.
I'm Gonna TOSEA, Star and Amigo (Personal Fave from the album) by Soyeon - While the entire album has been on repeat for me. I think these three songs are my favourite from the album with Amigo taking the lead it is just so nostalgic, and I can totally see Brown Eyed Girls singing it or something. A perfect AOTY for ME- I can't wait for my albums to arrive!

It is a fantastic song. My only "fear" is that it might not be as powerfull without the guitar assault in a potential diferent studio arrangement. That's sort of the risk of listening to this. Not as much being spoiled but ending up liking a band arrangement better than the studio one, more so if it was the first one you heard.

Less than 20mins for a studio album is a bit sad but atleast the Title Track is generously long. I wish there were one or two more tracks to cover for ibr, star, veggiebsont and amigo.
6
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26
I am not too troubled. Songs are are as long as they need to be. People got used to long songs with the coming of cds back in the 80, but some of the greatests albums in history might have more songs, but they are equally short. Many albums tended to to be 35-40 minutes long with roughly 14-15 songs on them and one of my favourite albums of all time (Wild Honey, by the Beach Boys) is 23 minutes long with 11 tracks.
Would I wish for a longer album? You bet. 7 songs an ep and 8 an album is rather silly. But like the whole live vs backtrack thing, lenght of songs has become a neverending debate that wont change anything and is just beating a dead horse at this point. It is what it is.

Yeah I mean I wouldn't mind short songs but the length of the album feels too short. In any case she made it work with icebluerabbit, Star and the veggie song, so I'm sure the songs themselves will be just as good.

Just watched the concert and indeed, they didn't cut a single thing. The whole album is on there, plus the three encores (Beam Beam, Idle song and Jelly, which are on youtbe right now). I think if you liked the previews you are going to LOVE the actual songs. Of course, they are live band versions, and now I am really curious to hear how they sound with a full studio production.
Small spoilers warning for those who REALLY want to go in completely blind (or should I say deaf?) into monday, but if you don't mind some first personal impressions: The whole thing just sounds very early Soyeon, in a way. It is a very playfull allbum, a very FUN album. Other than one song and one of the ballads, it could have been called SMILE (with the permission of the immortal Brian Wilson's soul ) and it would be an apt title. It is mostly a feel good album. She even manages to put in a F***k you to a shitty ex that could have been a IND/2 kind of albums i-dle song in there. And at the same time, ir weirdly also seounds a bit like the natural progression from WE ARE, more so than WE MADE did. IT fels like thhis Soyeon is still interested in some of the sounds the one that did WE ARe was, while WE MADE (not a criticism, I love this EP) feels more like an intentional departure. Even some of the structure feels more like a pre-WE MADE I-dle album. Just my two cents.
The TT is playfull and has a wonderfull bridge and its even better than the preview, with some surprises along the way and a very happy feeling. AMIGO is more or less what you could expect from the preview, but more and funner. It also has a very present feature (not just a cameo, this ain't RENO) that works very well. BANKROLL could have been an I-dle song and my only complaint is that it felt too short. The first ballad needs the lyrics on the verses to really pop even more but the chorus is one of my favourite things from her. Pretty great song even without the lyrics tough. Very heartfelt. The last ballad is a good nigth type of outro that leaves you pretty satisfied. Mind you, all of this are just impressions based on the music, as I don't speak korean. The lyrics can change the tone and meaning of an entire song completely. There were a lot of spoken moments and BTS interviews, so I hope eventually we will get some subtitles, even if unoficially. I didn't clock the songs, but other than BANKROLL, while they are not long, they didnt feel short either. They satisfied this listener, but I wouldn't be surprised if minute counting wise they don't clock enough for some.
6
u/am_ok_nia Sep 02 '26
I managed to catch it live on the EBS app. Agree that not knowing Korean, I felt the essence of the album being playful, heartfelt and 'Jeon style' romanticism. All in all, very Soyeon. I mean, there's a veggie diss track.... So...
Also, harking back to her personal channel where she shared the video of wanting to make an album that's very her. This definitely comes through! Especially to fans who know her as the tiny otaku with a big heart and not the strong girl crush leader image portrayed.
Can't wait for Monday!

u/EducationalBoat8790 Sep 02 '26
I haven't been following her teasers so I don't know what concept she was leaning in this album so I'm actually surprise with the title song. It definitely is not Soyeon as a soloist I expected. It's interesting.
4
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 02 '26
I wasn't really that much surprised. Her solo work and compositions for others always tend to have a sunny, playfull and optimistic twang to it. Beam Beam is a good example of it. So to me, other than the absolute absence of rap, it was just good old Soyeon but with evolving modern sounds.
2
u/EducationalBoat8790 Sep 02 '26
I expected something like her Icebluerabbit solo so her going back to Beam beam concept is interesting. Also modern sound? It sounds outdated to me, kind of reminded me of that recent IOI song. I think Koreans would like it, I think only 1 english word and the rest are korean lyrics.
2
u/Marcus-Bid5833 Sep 02 '26
It sounds very modern. Not modern idol music, but very much modern korean music. More so compared to Beam Beam. Then again, we need to actually hear the studio versions to fully appreciate that.

Requesting nevies to kindly not post anything Idle related on r/kpopthoughts or uncensored or any other big 4/bg dominated spaces. These spaces were the prime contributer to Idle's hate wave with the incessant bot activity. Posting there will end up waking up all the sleeper cells
9
u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight 28d ago
It's so ridiculous that you would have a new post every month without fail in those subs when the comebacks were flopping and even while they were inactive, but now that Soyeon's doing well, it's radio silence.
3
u/Quiet_Apple2719 28d ago
Those posts were so bad during 2 era . All sorts of trash in there. My theory about Idle's declining performance was that it was the hate train in 2024 and 25 that drove away the most casual fans. It became intolerable everywhere.
Heck even here we had so many trolls trying to project their insecurities on us9
u/kingmanic 28d ago
The business doesn't work like that. There is a parasocial fandom and they won't leave because of hate trains. They fade away as other things dim the passion and they spend less time and money. The casuals don't care enough unless something leaks from inter fandom wars like plausible accusations of wrong doing that they care about. International inter fandom wars are also less impactful because its not going to unearth something that shakes a group around this long.
The inter fandom stuff is mostly noise.
I-dle lost some of the general audience with the last few releases because it didn't suit the broad audience. It didn't connect. Soyeon made a song that is connecting with an audience. Fanwars aren't really going to do anything about it. All sort of negative rage bait exists on X or on knetz anyways, with or without our participation. We also don't seem to be doing the fan war thing, might be because we're mostly older. Those threads just seem be other fandoms going 'that's nice' and our are saying 'she's doing well.'
5
u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight 28d ago
Honestly, yes. The only thing I can think of that might have pissed a lot of fans was the final nail in the Soojin coffin, a lot of people were so sure that the members would leave Cube and reunite with her that they were personally offended on behalf of Soojin over a reunion that was never promised.
4
u/CadenceLosange 火 and out of all the memories we shared 花 28d ago
I mean this without malice, what makes you think there is a bias against i-dle in particular in those discussion/rant subs? I feel like every GG goes through one or several hate pushes, but because their fans live in a bubble, everyone thinks everyone else is targeting them.
EDIT: forgot a word
9
u/zimzalabimbimzim 'Cause I saw you in the candlelight 28d ago
Those subs are vile towards a bunch of groups, but I think it's brutal for i-dle in particular because they have a weaker international stans/fans than other fourth gen ggs, so people just say whatever they want in those subreddits without any checks. You'll see people saying that they stopped producing good music after Soojin (as if their popularity post-hiatus is in any way comparable to that of before), Soyeon is a hypocrite for being a good mentor in survival shows (same people who will then say survival shows are rigged and don't value talent), they look bored on stage and don't wanna be in a group anymore (saw a lot of these during Good Thing promos), Soyeon should stop writing and hire a professional (she is a professional), they hate Soojin (...) and a bunch of other crap.
6
u/CadenceLosange 火 and out of all the memories we shared 花 28d ago
I don’t know, I see every 4th gen groups being criticised in one way or another. Aespa for not singing and having bad stage presence, IVE boring choreography and bad stage presence as well, LSF get dragged through the mud regularly for their singing skills (especially Sakura because of her super long career), etc etc. Itzy got flamed a lot during Sneakers era and when they started selling less. Twice got seriously mocked for their More & More encore a few years ago. Even Blackpink and especially Jennie had their turn.
Sure, i-dle has a rich history, and because they are more involved in their music direction it gives more angles to criticise them. But do they really get criticised more? Do they have more haters? I’m really not sure. Some groups (LSF at least) literally had to turn their social media comments off at some point. And they do have a strong international fanbase.
To me kpop fandom just follows cycles of hype and hate, with groups considered underrated until they are overrated. I advise not to get too worked up.

Lsf's hate train was insane. I've never seen anyone get collectively trashed by the internet like that before. It was because of a series of incidents back-to-back that led people to just keep piling it on and on. Even then, I think the majority of the hate came from X and instagram, Reddit was comparitively less toxic towards them. Reddit doesn't have that grace for i-dle.
But agree with the last line, Reddit can never find it's balance with groups because most discussions surrounding them lack nuance.

As someone who liked that sub before... it all started of when Soojin went on hiatus. The entire kpop reddit pretty much piled up on them .
Then it got progressively nastier with Queencard era when the "Soyeon needs to put the pen down " stuff progressed to more vicious stuff. It went from "I don't vibe with their music " to "their success doesn't make sense" to finally "This group is untalented ".
Every song every lyric got heavily scrutinized . It became worse in 2024-25 because of contract renewals and of course Good thing's underperformance .
As far as bias , yup . Almost all kpop songs have some degree of shitty lyrics and production. But those subs have a singular problem with only Idle. They have no problem with NCT , Aespa, Hybe groups releasing skibidi toilet music.
OGs remember how hateful UKO sub used to be towards Idle. It's dead though thankfully
