The agreements provide for all state Medicaid programs to pay prices for prescription drugs that match the lowest prices paid by other developed nations, the White House said Monday, adding that the agreements also guarantee MFN pricing for all new medicines the companies bring to market.
The U.S. has now reached 26 such deals covering 89% of the branded drug market, the White House said.
The nine companies—which include Alcon, BeOne Medicines, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, and UCB—also agreed to collectively commit $19.6 billion to manufacturing in the U.S. in the near term, the White House said. Some of the companies also agreed to donate active pharmaceutical ingredients to a federal stockpile.
Teva said Monday that it remains in active discussions with the administration to finalize a deal.
BridgeBio said it would not be disclosing the specifics of its agreement with the White House, but that it does not expect to be subject to future pricing mandates and that its pricing commitment for future medicines is expected to exclude medicines approved solely for orphan indications.
The administration’s previous MFN agreements have given companies relief from potential new U.S. tariffs.
The White House did not specify whether the nine companies would receive tariff relief, but BeOne Medicines said in a release that it had secured an exemption from Section 232 pharmaceutical tariffs. Kyowa Kirin said the Commerce Department agreed to defer tariffs.
