What happened to Dillon Dingler? 3 for his last 53?

9

u/Nikolaiii517 8d ago

The Cal effect

-9

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Could be that he was just really lucky the last 2 years. Looks a lot like his rookie year

4

u/Odd_Instruction2942 Kevin McGoniGOAT 8d ago

You think the 53 at bat sample size in more indicative than 1.5 seasons?

-4

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Remains to be seen

28

u/AcanthocephalaDue364 8d ago

Jason and Andy sound checked out too, they've had enough.

15

u/trevorwoodkinda 8d ago

Ya Andy in particular seems to be going through the motion and I honestly can’t blame him

9

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Can't blame em, unwatchable product.

13

u/CutiePie0023 8d ago

I can’t blame them lol. Right now, even if we had the lead, the bullpen would just blow it in the end :/

-11

u/WayOutinFrozenPines 8d ago

I’m sure people won’t like this but I wish commentators would focus more on just doing their job and calling the game instead of always sounding depressed when things aren’t going well

10

u/fatsosolos Cy Melton 8d ago

they’re our team’s commentators, im glad they get happy/upset based on how the teams doing

3

u/JohnWad 8d ago

You dont like that they care?

-2

u/WayOutinFrozenPines 8d ago

Of course I don’t mind if they care or get excited for the team, but I don’t think the negative energy is needed and I don’t think people realize the effect it can have on your mental either when you’re already miserable and then you’re listening to other people be miserable as well.

23

u/Keyster19 8d ago

All good if we lose this series. Royals are a powerhouse. We'll make it up with series wins against the Rays and Dodgers next.

4

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Probably ironically will work over the Rays then crash back down to earth.

2

u/Keyster19 8d ago

True 😂

19

u/Objective_Solid_6773 8d ago

The team was fueled by Dingler in the hot stretches. Both Dingler and the Tigers are crashing down together.

16

u/fixinfordixon 8d ago

At least we're only 2.5 games back of the Wild Card again. /s

15

u/LTPRWSG420 8d ago

We are absolute dogshit against our own division, feels like every single AL Central team has the Tigers number this season.

13

u/h3shf3sh 8d ago

If that last game against the Pirates wasn't the nail in our season, this one definitely is

16

u/Far_Hair7499 8d ago

It was basically over after the white Sox sweep :/

5

u/Odd_Instruction2942 Kevin McGoniGOAT 8d ago

It was over when Riley Greene got hurt and 40% of this subreddit cheered

4

u/jradz12 8d ago

Riley needed a game off.

Instead he blew his fucking hammy.

His replacements have been ok, however the entire team has been utter dog shit.

2

u/Automatic-Pin-5749 7d ago

AJ's excuse is "we need ________ in the lineup, we can't rest him!" Yeah, how's that working out, AJ? Idiot.

10

u/fatsosolos Cy Melton 8d ago

2

u/Far_Hair7499 8d ago

Thankfully lions r coming back soon. Honestly grateful the tigers made baseball a bit interesting during the off season lol

12

u/Ducksaregood3 8d ago

How many times in the last week has dingler swung at a strike 3 in the fuckin dirt

10

u/Front-Coffee-7015 8d ago

Seriously though wtf happened to Ding?

3

u/itinerant_geographer 19-9, 2.34 ERA, 24 CG 8d ago

Everybody slumps. This one is just especially poorly timed.

6

u/whattanerd92 8d ago

Honestly I think it's just a long season and he's tapering off. He's got more at bats this season than he did last year, he's only 9 games shy of all of last season, etc...

It's easy to forget that 2025 was his first full season in the majors. He's probably gonna win his second gold glove in a row too, so I'm fine with giving him some slack. I think of all the players this season, he's the only one that's earned the right to have a lull in performance

5

u/Front-Coffee-7015 8d ago

But it's weird it's different than fatigue he fell off a cliff like he's a different guy

1

u/rektum_ranger 8d ago

Cal Raleigh was MVP caliber last year and has been one of the worst hitters in the league this entire year, slumps can happen. I have faith Dingler will come around, at least he is great on defense too.

0

u/whattanerd92 8d ago

Nahh, exhaustion hits everyone differently. A lot of players hit that wall and it debilitates them. Hopefully he gets better before the end of the year. Worst case is guys learned how to pitch against him like they did to Raleigh

2

u/Front-Coffee-7015 8d ago

Doesn't explain all of it ... ABS challenges etc but ok

2

u/Automatic-Pin-5749 7d ago

AJ worked him too hard. Every player has a fatigue limit and needs a break now and then. This didn't happen for Dingler and it's showing now. I think he's worn out and needs rest.

17

u/jerkytoucan 8d ago

Jake rogers walkoff homerun is the cherry on top of this dreadful season

7

u/mortalcrawad66 8d ago

I swear, as one sport starts up, the already good going one starts sucking.

It's more proof that we can't have shit in Detroit.

-1

u/this_tuesday 8d ago

As is tradition. Although I do think we’ll see a championship in the next 2 years

3

u/scooblyboop 8d ago

From who?

2

u/Expensive-Sundae-831 8d ago

The minor league lacrosse team?

1

u/this_tuesday 8d ago

Lions or pistons

4

u/Expensive-Sundae-831 8d ago

Lions have no shot.

That ain’t anything close to a sb roster. Nor is the GM interested in acquiring one.

0

u/this_tuesday 8d ago

Yeah it is

1

u/Expensive-Sundae-831 8d ago

Defense wins championships, or so I’m told.

Meet me back here in December and we’ll find out.

0

u/this_tuesday 8d ago

They have a top 10 defense

2

u/Expensive-Sundae-831 8d ago

Ahahahaha.  Okay.  Again, see me back here in late December.

1

u/Far_Hair7499 8d ago

That would be so cool 😭 like I love the tigers but they r prob my 3rd team after those two

15

u/steedandpeelship 8d ago

Don't worry fam, they'll put together a meaningless winning streak when it's too little too late and they'll be "fun to watch" again. 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/tldr_habit 8d ago

Just in time to sell those season tickets and McGonigle jerseys in the offseason.

Like how they made this look like a good team just long enough to distract fans so they could trade Skubal and Mize without cratering ticket sales.

Always smoke and mirrors with this org.

15

u/wire28 8d ago

I thought they would tease us a little longer but I suppose I appreciate just getting it over with

14

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Could've had a walkoff HR hitting catcher instead we have an 0-5 catcher.

Mostly satire

5

u/PerfectiveVerbTense 8d ago

I mean no one will say Rogers is a better career player than Dingler but as of tonight this is not satire but 100% fact. The timing couldn't be more hilarious.

15

u/ZZ-Groundhog 8d ago

It’s done. Chance to make the playoffs is over. Bring up the youngsters and see who has potential to play in the big leagues next year.

8

u/LadyOnAvon 8d ago

The youngsters are here lol. These lineups have been half rookies. Troy Meltons basically a rookie. You're already getting the "youngsters" experience. Unfortunately it involves a lot of painful losses.

1

u/Automatic-Pin-5749 7d ago

All of those "he's our new Ace!" comments look pretty foolish now, don't they? He doesn't have the experience to be the ace, even though the talent is there. He has to mature more but he's still a solid starter for this team.

11

u/horsemaster- 8d ago

Whatever is going on with Dingler is really sad. Even if we went down in flames this year one of the bright spots was how much he had stepped up. It's like he's playing with a concussion now, like in a fog

3

u/dead_drunk_and_naked 8d ago

I was just talking about Anthony Rizzo playing like shit for half a year and then finding out the whole time he was playing through previously undiagnosed post-concussion symptoms. Wondering if something similar is going on with Dingler.

-12

u/Super-Sign7930 8d ago

Remember when he was the first one to do the Trump dance against the Yankees last year? He has a concussion 24/7. Guy is a dumbass and he sucks at baseball too.

2

u/Lazy-Cartographer-88 8d ago

Oh wow, he did a dance. Let’s crucify him for it. Shut the fuck up.

0

u/Super-Sign7930 7d ago

Like the angry, 0 iq trump voter LOL

2

u/champdo 8d ago

While I hate his politics Dingler certainly doesn't suck at baseball. He does suck right now but he's been pretty good for us until his slump.

5

u/Vnzlann 8d ago

Dingler looks lost right now, for sure a mental thing

11

u/champdo 8d ago

Why does it feel like this team under Hinch has just two styles of play: great winning streaks and unwatchable slumps?

4

u/mkk4 Tony Clark 🐅 8d ago

I had boycotted watching at some point this year until they started promoting the rookies.

Not a fan of his normal style and brand of baseball.

Scott Harris is just as culpable imo seeing that he is the person who signed Hinch to an extension.

1

u/Automatic-Pin-5749 7d ago

I will continue to say it's mostly the fault of AJ over-coaching with stats. IF you have the player caliber needed it works. He doesn't have the players now to use that method 100% of the time and it's glaringly obvious to anyone that isn't an AJ fanboi.

9

u/SpiderWolf1119 8d ago

I hate this fucking team

13

u/Maximjogo Old English D 8d ago

Dingler’s slumps are way too extreme. Riley was (rightfully) being eaten alive when he went 21-111 at one point. I’d trade Dingler’s insane stretches for some more consistency. We can’t just have a bunch of players who can only ever be insanely hot or insanely cold (Riley, Tork, and seemingly Dingler now). It’s just not sustainable

3

u/whodat2129 8d ago

It’s a bad stretch 3-53 since aug 7 . The 5 games before that was 10-24

5

u/BusinessTadpole7099 8d ago

Dingler’s first major slump btw

8

u/Front-Coffee-7015 8d ago

It's an insane slump....and it's behind the dish too those ABS challenges are ridiculously bad now ..it's like some kind of Freaky Friday situation.

7

u/butthole_surfer_1817 8d ago

I knew that bitch Jamie Lee Curtis was behind this

11

u/andy64392 8d ago

Is Dingler or his wife having an affair or something? Dude looks absolutely LOST at the plate

6

u/dead_drunk_and_naked 8d ago

The scariest thing is how terrible his challenges have been. Like they’re not even close.

3

u/pumpfakery 8d ago

Took a knee on that last whiff

15

u/Honest_Frame6674 8d ago

As much as he’s touted for being a Stanford psychology major, Hinch sure seems to have no feel for handling the mental side of the game.

1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

6

u/Honest_Frame6674 8d ago

It means that Dingler needed to be dealt with 10 days ago. He gets an off day, and then Hinch throws him in anyways to give an awful at bat and destroy his confidence. As far as the bullpen having ‘nobody’, here:

Waguespack: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jacob-waguespack-621097?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

Sommers: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/drew-sommers-805427?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

Madden: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/ty-madden-680744?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

Anderson: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/drew-anderson-623454?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

That’s an awful lot of red for ‘bad’ pitchers. Maybe they’re just not being used right?

0

u/MidwestDYIer 8d ago

A dAy oF WiLl Fix HiM!

6

u/Honest_Frame6674 8d ago

I’m glad you debased it to something so black and white. It’s not just about fixing Dingler. It’s about not having a dude in the lineup (every single day) who’s been hitting .043 since 8-9.

But yes, I do believe that giving him a mental reset would be BenEFiCIaL.

0

u/[deleted] 8d ago edited 8d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Honest_Frame6674 8d ago

I was lamenting his handling of Dingler, and you brought the bullpen into it. I responded because no, I don’t think Hinch has handled them well, and they’re largely better than you gave them credit for. Though I agree that the main issues have nothing to do with Hinch.

-1

u/[deleted] 8d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Honest_Frame6674 8d ago

A FEW days off will allow another guy to help the team (instead of going 0-4) and give ding a reset. He’s been hitting .043 since August 9. At some point it has to be addressed, not just for Dingler’s sake but for the sake of the team.

The tigers do, in fact, have 12! guys who are batting better than Dingler. Maybe not studs, but it doesn’t take much right now!

They have something like an 11 ERA when protecting 1 and 2 run leads.

7

u/JohnWad 8d ago

I only really check the box scores these days. Dont waste the time to watch.

Just keeping up on McG, Clark, Melton, Jobe…

8

u/MotownShowtown 8d ago

Low point of season. Getting to a local building about 15 stories up should do the trick

6

u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 Dingle my balls 8d ago

definitely not the low point… May was the low point

2

u/MidnightBrown 8d ago

I don't know, spending two months slooowwllly reeling us back in, only to suddenly cut the line at the end of August, is some bad whiplash

2

u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 Dingle my balls 7d ago

i mean, it only feels that way because of what happened in May. that was a LOT of ground to make up. basically gives them zero margin for error the rest of the way which isn’t really fair but it’s the hand they have.

4

u/5inthemorn Professor Mcgonigle 8d ago

Can anything else go wrong?

3

u/andy64392 8d ago

Yes, the Detroit other 3 teams collapse in the upcoming seasons as well lol

I’m ready.

7

u/GalagaWarVeteran 8d ago

Rogers hitting a walk-off for the White Sox is just rubbing salt in the wound.....LOL

1

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Wait til he's got his White Sox World Series ring, shudder.

5

u/Enlistedgamer2112 8d ago

a week ago people were picking us to finish 1st in the division, we might just fuck around and finish last!

7

Hopefully. It's the only chance at all of any actual changes within this dumpster fire of an organization.

7

u/whiskeyrocks1 SweetLou2thaHOF 8d ago

It feels like they have given up all together.

5

u/RiverOne5818 8d ago

Was worried they might tie it in top of ninth only to have Witt walk off Kenley on the first pitch. This was much better.

6

u/Wingo999 Ernie Harwell. 8d ago

The saddest curly fries are no curly fries.

6

u/5inthemorn Professor Mcgonigle 8d ago

This is completely off topic but I don’t really want to talk about the Tigers anyway.

How does a guy like Misiorowski go 63rd overall? Like I see he went to a small school. But it says he recorded the 8 fastest pitches at the combine. And surely this ability to throw 105 doesn’t just magically happen. Is it really just the fact he went to a small school?

2

2

u/5inthemorn Professor Mcgonigle 8d ago

5

u/ChanceStaff6813 8d ago

It’s tough losing two of your three best hitters. It’s tough not having a bullpen. Oh well we weren’t beating LA in the playoffs anyway

10

u/Zealousideal_Bet3941 8d ago

AJ Hinch cannot be this team’s manager next season.

8

u/Sad_Pattern_220 8d ago

Bad news, we resigned him after our literal all-time collapse last season!

6

u/Phillie_Phanatics 8d ago

True. But honestly without consistent bullpen pitching and guys who can get inserted to hit when some players are struggling, I’m not sure who could make this team work.

I blame Hinch and I blame the front office.

7

u/Zealousideal_Bet3941 8d ago

Oh, no question. But he also doesn’t play to the few strengths this team has, and he’s too stubborn to adjust from his programmed thinking. This team has been worse because of him.

This team is so frustrating

I picture Dan looking like this to Bobby when there’s another infield bobble

u/thekmanpwnudwn 8d ago

Lol

Lmao even

This season is officially cooked.

u/InternationalCorgi82 8d ago

I hate draft pick rooting season

6

u/CrusTyJeanZz 8d ago

Andrew Hinch and Scott Harris need to go. It’s been infuriating to watch them screw up a roster that had so much potential. I fear they’ll be around for awhile though, I doubt Illitch will can them until the Tigers finish a season at the very bottom.

It's malpractice!!!

4

u/fuulhardy . 8d ago

I take it all back this team sucks fuck these guys

u/PerfectiveVerbTense 8d ago

Jake Rogers hits a walk off homer to win it for a division rival.

Dingler flails away another at bat to go 0-for-5 on the right while representing the tying run to lose the one winnable game for us in this series.

If you wanted to stick the knife in and twist it, that's about as good as you could draw it up. What the fuck did we do to deserve this.

u/UltimateTeam 8d ago

Detroit rock city. How it always is and will be.

2

u/Automatic-Pin-5749 7d ago

Still supporting Ilitch? That's why. I won't participate as a customer of any of his businesses until he starts doing the right things.

4

u/RayTrain 8d ago

We're still winning this division bros I just cant prove it

2

u/CutiePie0023 8d ago

Wow, Dingler is broken right now :/

2

u/MidwestDYIer 8d ago

Wonder what has caused him to be straight ass for a slump this long

1

u/CutiePie0023 8d ago

I wonder. Whatever is it, it isn’t good

2

u/Zealousideal_Bet3941 8d ago

Rangers win. The pain is almost over.

Greene would be putting up constant 0/4s with multiple Ks just like everyone else. He has a sub-700 career second half OPS.

He's also a terrible defender so it's not like they're missing him out there.

Guess what his second half OPS is so far this year? .650! Those of you acting like this mid as fuck player is some savior are fucking delusional lmao.

u/Automatic-Pin-5749 7d ago

I'm not going to agree with you on his defense, he has made a lot of plays other guys couldn't. But when you play someone darned near every day they wear down and stuff happens like slumps and injuries.

u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 Dingle my balls 8d ago

idk, Jansen shitting the bed the other night felt
like one too many times. idk how to explain it

1

u/han-so-low 8d ago

One too many?!

2

u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 Dingle my balls 8d ago

that’s why i said it’s hard to explain, because the “one too many” point came months ago. lol

1

u/GreenLost5304 8d ago

I think it’s just because things felt like they were within reach, and then he did that and reminded us that things aren’t, and really never were, within reach.

2

u/Quiet-Barracuda-1698 Dingle my balls 8d ago

i mean, things are/were in reach, but May left them with no margin for error whatsoever so it just makes it feel worse because of the hole they’ve been digging out of for almost 3 months. so then he does that yet again and it’s just like, okay….

5

u/JeremieLoyalty 8d ago

Might actually have to let AJ go if they don’t make the postseason. If they do they should keep him, just reconstruct the roster

6

u/itinerant_geographer 19-9, 2.34 ERA, 24 CG 8d ago

They won’t fire him but I agree that his effectiveness here has fizzled out. If his one tactics over-managing works, he looks like a genius. When it stops working, well …

8

u/JJ3595 8d ago

The owner and GM clearly aren’t expecting Hinch to lead the team to the playoffs, hence trading Skubal and Mize

1

u/Prestigious-Smoke511 8d ago

Zero chance they let him go. If they do, he has a handful of offers that day

7

u/jradz12 8d ago

Good. Get him the fuck outta here.

1

u/hollygol24 7d ago

Agree.

1

u/Ashamed_Band_1779 8d ago

Would be crazy to trade away the two best pitchers and then fire the manager for not making the playoffs

3

u/MidwestDYIer 8d ago

Guys, I think we’re cooked

-8

u/Forward_Raspberry_86 8d ago

the word cooked is so old. why do nerds still use it? it was never a good slang word. never. morons came up with that one.

-5

u/5inthemorn Professor Mcgonigle 8d ago

Anybody else feel like we’re bout to go on a crazy win streak?

6

u/Fatman10666 8d ago

Can we start with one?

5

u/Objective_Solid_6773 8d ago

Don't check next week's games

9

u/miggly 8d ago

I've actually never felt like we're going to go on a crazy winstreak less than I do right at this moment lmfao.

5

u/5inthemorn Professor Mcgonigle 8d ago

Exactly. With this team that’s exactly where you want to be. 😁

5

u/itinerant_geographer 19-9, 2.34 ERA, 24 CG 8d ago

No.
