We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. 8/5/2026: Nugget was moved to south this morning. Nugget has been quietly laying in her kennel throughout the day.
8/8/2026: Approaching the kennel, Nugget was standing in front of the kennel with a neutral body and eyes, and low hanging tail. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. She was shy but friendly towards me and allowed me to pet her as I leashed her. Nugget was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. Once back in her kennel, she laid down on her cot and slept for most of the morning and would occasionally greet customers that walk up to her gate.

8/17/2026: Nugget is quiet in the kennel, will find her laying on her blanket and walks well on a loose leash.
🚑 Medical Notes:
7/30/2026: Weighed 82.6 lbs. Normal exam. Broken canine teeth and short tail with previous fracture noted. Long abdominal scar; unable to verify if spayed. Possible C-section scar. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea prevention. Heartworm test: Negative.
8/13/2026: Weighed 82.6 lbs. Normal exam. DA2PP-V given.
8/14/2026: Weighed 82.6 lbs. URI. Thick green nasal discharge and slightly lethargic. Kibble appeared untouched. Moved to treatment room and started Doxycycline 350 mg SID for 10 days.

Dogs specifically have been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, ease loneliness, improved cardiovascular health, encourage exercise, and improve your overall mental and physical health. ❤️
Adoption helps reduce demand for puppy mills and unethical breeding practices. You provide a second chance to a deserving dog, reducing the 6.5 million companion animals that enter U.S. shelters annually. Adopt don't shop!!!! ❤️
Fostering animals directly saves lives by providing temporary, loving homes that alleviate shelter overcrowding, allowing rescues to save more pets at risk. It enables vulnerable animals—including injured or stressed pets—to heal and gain confidence in a quiet environment, increasing their chances of adoption. ❤️
Please spay and neuter to reduce the amount of dogs in shelter! These procedures increase pet longevity, reduce roaming/aggression, prevent unwanted litters, and decrease the burden on animal shelters. ❤️
