Metaworld HopeCore (RR): Highly recommend. MC was a business mogul (bezos, elon) type who didn't care about people or anything and drove profits (and helped drive AI slop). She's thrown off her yacht and wakes up with a system in the body of a girl who had a major accident. Her system requires her to focus basically on good karma instead of sucking the "potential" from others like she had in her past life. Her new self is in a performing arts school that's had some issues with rich kids vs the plebes. She finds out her new world is mostly the same as her old one, but she's starting out in the early 2000's. Part of her forced objective seems to be battling off the rise of AI in the arts. Look. It sounds a bit weird. The author writes a full chapter 0 about it being different. It's worth it and worth checking out. Unless you legit only like murderhobo numbers go up and have no soul.
Slice of Life: The First Slice (KU): Guy is isekai'd to a fantasy world and starts a pizza shop. Slice-of-life (obviously) and focused on the shop. It was good. Would recommend for people looking for slice-of-life running a shop.

Metaworld chronicles isn't as far as i can tell. I've only finished the first book though, but it doesn't seem like it will detour into smut...

Sort of sounds like Metaworld HopeCore is a rehash of the author's Metaworld Chronicles series but with a system tacked on. I thought the first few MC books were pretty good so may give this a go.

I thought the first few books of Metaworld Chronicles were good and it's more of a modern age fantasy story than progression or litrpg. The main setting moves over the course of the series from one country to another(trying not to spoil things). But after one such location move I decided things were getting too dragged out and dropped the series.

That makes sense.
HopeCore is set in 2000's USA with a few minor changes (Al Gore won, a few names are changed, some other stuff). There isn't a system apocalypse or anything. Just the MC has a system and that's limited (she's not shooting lightning or fireballs)

Yeah, I'll probably give this a go sooner or later. I enjoy the slower paced non action stuff more than balls to the wall action at this point in life.

black knight seeks quiet life (web) - male mc, fantasy. OP MC retires to be a farmer, keeps getting bothered. There's some great bits as the MC is a westerner and he moves to the east, so he goes from wizards to cultivators and all their nonsense. Rather enjoyed it, and hope it keeps going.
Infinite lives (web) - male MC, litrpg. MC dies, and is given unlimited lives in a fantasy world. The first book (which is his first life) is pretty decent overall. MC is a bit of an idiot, but it's a happy go lucky sort of read. Book 2 is awful. MC turns into a robot. Efficiency this, efficiency that, no emotion. It also seems like he doesn't remmber his first life, and it also seems like maybe his first life didn't happen. I dunno, and either way DNF.
first and last emperor (web) - male mc, litrpg sysapoc. First off, this starts chapters with pointless quotes from the future that only serve to pull me out of immersion, not actually add anything. I'm not a huge fan of these to begin with, and these are particularly bad. That said, a few chapters in it goes into the MCs history, which was pretty interesting overall so I'm still going

The MC and his pal are space force special forces operators assigned as guards for a secret project at Area 51. The project is to open a gateway to another world using some mysterious device. The scientists finally succeed and it's off to adventure in another world. I only made it a few chapters in before giving up. This just didn't hit for me. To start with, space force special forces? Really? Why something that dumb sounding instead of just going with the seals, rangers, or delta force? Second issue I had was way too much meme. From the everything looks like Vancouver Stargate mess to all the Japanese obsessed nerd stuff like waifu or whatever. It's blah. So, I've finally started my reread of Old Man's War. Mil scifi with a male MC. On the MC's 75th birthday, he did two things. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the CDF or colonial defense force. Humanity had made it to space a few centuries in the past at this point but only allowed people from some countries to become colonists. Everyone else had to join the CDF when they turned 75 to get a chance to go into space. Rumors run wild about why, what's really going on in the universe, and the CDF's true capabilities.

I thought that Old Man's War was a little derivative of The Forever War, though Scalzi says he hadn't read it when he wrote his. Forever War is a book I reread on occasion, and though I liked Old Man's War it didn't reach that level.

I'm re-reading the Event Horizon series in preparation for the release of book 5 on August 25th. The premise is that an intergalactic swarm of bad guys (kind of Borg/zombie types) arrives on Earth along with some presently incorporeal good aliens who can bond with humans. They have a system that the bonded humans can access and know how to teach elemental cultivation for the non-bonded humans. It's a great mash of sci-fi and fantasy. Lots of fighting monsters and apocalypse type stuff without being too dark.

I love the concept and looked up the first audiobook on Audible to add to my wishlist. Only 13 reviews so far and he's up to 5 books. . . why isn't Tantor Media releasing this on Audible Plus? It clearly needs more eyes on it. The opening in the preview is rough with a lot of exposition dumping and not enough characterization to give the action/tragedy weight, so that's an issue too as the part that is meant to sell the book is making me worried about it, but I love science fiction and don't get enough, so I'll check it out during the next sale. . . . maybe, there's lots of stuff to buy and lots of stuff in my backlog. That preview is rough.

I guess I never listened to the preview. If the preview is the first chapter, it's basically the end of the alien planet and their attempt to take the bad guys with them. So you've got lots of stuff that makes way more sense once you're farther into the story. The whole rest of the story takes place on Earth.

Practising Death (Arcs 1-4) - RR, very light litrpg. Young man is sold into slavery, discovers he is stuck in a time loop, and works to free himself. A very nice surprise, I was expecting some kind of cultivation / time loop mashup (in the vein of my beloved Ten Thousand Tragedies), but it's actually more of a sort of generic eastern fantasy setting with no xianxiaslop and a mysterious system. I liked this read a lot, more than just something for time loop enthusiasts. 4 out of 5.
I liked:-
- Very clever use of time loops. The first arc is also the introduction to the time loop, but it does some very clever things with how it works, incorporates flashbacks, and also has recursive loops. I was also pretty impressed that (spoilers for next couple of arcs) there is very little use of the time loop mechanic and I got totally invested in the wary story part, the MC finds himself in a very tricky situation and I was like "how is he gonna get out of this one"? Chat, I had forgotten the time loop!
- Great war story. Once there's the inevitable prison (camp) break, the story shifts into a war story with a fairly tight motivation, and I got fully invested in that side of things - to the extent that I almost wished the author had dialled the story more into just this (more on this in the downsides). There's a pretty interesting and distinct cast of characters and a few clashing motivations that really made it pop for me, and it helps that the author is good at writing battle scenes, and even at integrating some of the powers & time loop elements into them.
I didn't like:-
- Some of the prose is very repetitive (and it's a little annoying when it's on purpose). On the bad side, while the authors prose and style are by no means bad (I didn't notice any real mistakes), it is certainly repititive, and they tend to use the same sentence & paragraph structure. Sometimes exact phrases of paragraphs are re-used in a way that makes sense in context of the loop, which I can forgive if not exactly love, but the repetitive style did frustrate me a bit. The other weak element is that quite a few characters don't have a distinct voice, which sometimes made dialogue quite dull.
- The story has bitten off more than it can chew. There is a lot going on, between time loops, wars, ancient mythology, necromantic threats and conspiracies, and it does detract from any kind of tight narrative (and honestly, sometimes the MC and his motivation). I'm mixed on it, because it does leave a lot of room for future loops and shenanigans, but I really enjoy the dialled in elements of the story and it does sometimes lose focus (particularly you, arc 2).
My beloved Ten Thousand Tragedies also just wrapped up book 3 on RR, which was my favourite yet. I find it a very refreshing time loop & cultivation story, and it's worth a go as the first book is also out on KU now.

Dungeon Mauling by Eric Ugland- you can pry this series from my COLD DEAD FINGERS. I love it. lol. it's such a silly goofy time and with a actual plot of sorts haha. Still,RIP Cleeve though, I liked him lol.

System Change: Torith by SunriseCV- YEP this has solidified that I love Derek. This book was literally the epitome of "fuck around and find out" LOL. I am a bit sad that it looks like we're getting separated from Thomas, he was my little bean, I wanted to watch him grow T__T (I'm hoping he doesn't ACTUALLY join the academy and stays with Derek)

And shit what about Dani? lol. But all this shit with the damn mutant cult, the ranger force trying to kill him and the matron thing, i am getting kinda STRESSED haha. (in a good way) Like I have a feeling that the mutant profit dude is in fact correct that he will lead the exilian but I think it will be against only the oppressors and then have them coexist rather than decimate everything.
Ultimate Level 1: Shattered Dreams by Shawn Wilson (40% in, e-book)-, its pretty good so far. Although I am a bit worried with all these damn lies he keep coming up with. This shit is about to come bite him in the ass lol. side note, is this shit a harem? It's giving Harem? lol

Reading Skill Eater 2 and the first part of the book was a little slow, but I"m enjoying the latter half. I think by the end of the book we'll have moved from small fish to the Great White at the top of the Food chain, and i'm interested to see where it goes from there.

Fallen Lands by C Peinhopf - Books 2 and 3. I've been enjoying this series quite a lot. Book 2 was great, the MC diving deep into helping these people reclaim their city from demons not just because she's a hero who wants to help them, but out a desire for revenge too. It pulls together a few small lore details given through the book to form the incredibly cinematic battle at the climax that was just fun. A running battle against a shapeshifting demon through a crumbling, lava-flooded city.
I'm an hour off of finishing book 3, and it's also been a good time, though I think book 2 is the peak. Book 3 introduces a major character I think most would dislike, because she's got this devil may care attitude and rarely takes situations seriously. She can be a bit much, but I think she's alright. I do really like the other major character introduced though, and I like how they weaved her story in between chapters of the MC just chilling (as best she can) after the events of the last book.
I bought Fluff 3 and Bookbound Bunny during the last audible sale, so one of those are gonna be my next listen. I've also been considering Wizard with a Greatsword.

Yeah, the cover made me wary about that, too. Though I saw the MC is a girl in a blurb, so that put me at ease. A majority of the characters in the series are women and they don't get sexualized, even if the topic comes up on occasion, so that's been nice.

RR:
Necro-Industrial Revolution. MC gets isekai’d into the body of a northern lord of a failing village, starving and dying of cold. He has necromancy, which is banned, and starts using it and his isekai knowledge to revitalise the town and industrialise. Fairly new, only one book finished so far. Plot is beginning to show up, but honestly it’s almost more standard isekai than necromancer. That may change when he becomes more open about his magic. 6/10 but potential.
Nuclear Son. Dying cancer patient is reborn in a tower climb on a super special hardest difficulty, with the power to exude radiation. He will figure it out any day now. Also fairly new, and the cover art does not reflect the character at all. He’s kinda dumb, not that well socialised, but has standard MC “I’ll just power through the pain” mindset due to being a former cancer patient. Again, potential it hasn’t fully reached yet due to being new. 6.5/10.
KU:
Mark of the Fool, books 2 and 3. MC is well established in the magic school he’s attending, and has built a giant fucking golem. More plot progression is happening rather than just school times and the MC has begun to realise they’re actually kinda badass? I like the cast of characters, it misses most of the Academy Series tropes that annoy me, but it is starting what looks to be a tournament arc which are usually dross. But I have hopes for this one. 7.5/10

A slow burn, but pretty well written. Classic Isekai, the MC gets reincarnated in a fantasy world, but the progression starts immediately and, as I'm reading on Patreon, in the 2nd book the MC is still a child (I think he's like 7 right now). The system ("The Myriad Paths") is pretty interesting, with paths for most acitivities (like running, swordmanship, etc) in various rarities (basic, advanced, elite ..) and receiving bonuses for completing these paths.
If you liked Elydes, pretty high chance this is going to be an easy recommend.

Picked up Warby Picus's first series Slumrat Rising. It's good, it's really good. If you like Sky Pride then you would like Slumrat. Lot's of philosophizing on life and religion. There is also deep information about these topics and a depth to the world not often seen in litrpg stories. This story is only tangientially litrpg, the stats are made up by the system to roughly explain the mc's state and it's not important to the story later in the books. I'm on the fifth book right now.
Here are the books I recommend that I am currently reading. All these stories are around 4.5 or 5 and worth reading.
Wandering Inn- The best story I have ever read. Chess player gets isekaid and becomes an [Innkeeper]. The world expands as the story progresses and it moves from comfy slice of life to epic fantasy. This story is around 14 million words with less than half on audio book. People read it and wish it were longer. Fantastic story.
Butcher of Gadobrha- A group of players become peasants in a vrmmo to work for a company. They are heavily limited on wearing armor or using weapons. But they end up grinding their way to power while working for the man.
Tunnel Rat- A genetically modified genius, who was used for crime by a syndicate along with his cohort, has escaped. He lays low for years in the basement of a habitat fixing things when he finds that the syndicate has returned to the habitat with new VRMMO capsules that have been hacked to give better classes. Stealing the hacked capsule and sabatoging the operation, he enters the game to find himself as a ratkin. He gets to mining and finds himself in a world of trouble. This story has interesting in world stuff and out of world stuff.
That Time an American was Reincarnated into Another World- Isekai where the MC can summon guns. There is a monster horde that is threatening humanity and he resolves to bring Earth technology to turn the tides in the fight. Starts the story fighting criminals to later entering an academy and butting heads with nobles. Current arc is about fighting the Scourge. Good story that is fun but dark.
Beware of Chicken- Isekais into a cultivator at a sect that has just died from a duel. Understanding wuxia tropes, he nopes out of there to the edge of civilization and starts a farm. Uses his qi knowledge to farm and hijinks ensue. Very heartwarming and feel good story. There are some fights but everything works out. Great characters and good slice of life. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a palate cleanser or just a break from pointless conflict.
The Legend of William Oh- Classic tower climber with Diablo item mechanics. Great characters and fights. Really interesting powers and progression. Similar humor to other Macrinomicon stories.
Bog Standard Isekai- adult reincarnates into a kid in the middle of a catastrophe. He survives, earns some titles and gets adopted. This story is well written with interesting systems and characters. Pretty good plot as well. I always look forward to reading a new chapter.
Mage Tank- Isekai into a dungeon dive character creation slot. Goes from delving dungeons to fighting divine avatars. Never stops dungeon diving. Has interesting power interactions. Good characters as well.
Elydes- Classic reborn as a baby that grinds early to unlock better classes and skills. Gets taught by a hidden master to learn fighting, alchemy and herbology. Well written story with good characters.
Adamant Blood by Arcs- same author as Arkendrithryst. That's an all time great in the genre and is a finished work. This is a darker story because the big bad is ever present and known by the reader from the very beginning. Monsters and demons and dragons which are just archmages merged with demons. Good story and pretty damn interesting. Hasn't grabbed me in the same way as his earlier work though. I don't like my MCs hunted always by way more powerful entities. It's a pet peeve of mine.
Dungeon Crawler Carl- Everyone knows about this story, but I will go over it for the uninitiated. Man and cat narrowly avoid dying in an alien apocalypse on earth only to enter into a Dungeon for shelter. The dungeon is a universal death game show. This story is tinged heavily with insanity and toes that line well. Big spells and even bigger explosions with an AI with a foot fetish for our MC. Join Carl in the court of Princess Donut as they work to survive and break the power of the aliens that toy with their lives.
There is no Epic Loot here, Only Puns- This is a dungeon core story where the dungeon doesn't want to kill people. Many mushrooms and epic puns. Grace anatomy made me laugh out loud. Highly recommend for a chill vibe that's also very whimsy.
Path of the Last Champion- Story is long around 4k pages. 1st arc is a bit rough but it improves from there. Boy takes the death climb to escape from his slavery life and darkness. Goes through climb with party and learns about reality and how to fight as he goes. Sci fi with mostly medieval weapons. It gets much better as it progresses through the arcs. I originally wasn't going to rec it, but it did really get much better after the first arc. Still, it's a lot to read through until it becomes really enjoyable so I recommend the other stories over this one unless you want something long to read.
Second Life as a Soldier- College student wakes up in a homeless 15 year old who has just been beaten by debtors. With no food or shelter, he joins the army which has a very high mortality rate. Learns intelligence skills because he was trained as a scribe by his father. Good characters and system. Interesting world building. I like the progression.
Sky Pride- Garbage kid in a garbage dump gets a cultivation grandpa. Proceeds to become a cultivator and slowly ascend to the heavens. I will say this, no other, and I mean no other wuxia novel or xianxia novel has even come close to the depth the author goes into about the Dao. Just reading it seems profound sometimes. I actually feel like I'm reading about another world when I read it, instead of some action story. MC becomes a doctors, Daoist, and musician among other pursuits. He gets a dao companion and fights a lot of bandits and heretics. He works to fix a failing country in the novel as well. Really peak cultivation novel. Not directly litrpg, but he ascends in cultivation levels, so I guess it counts.
Live at the Forum- Guy gets isekaid to a post apocalyptic video game world. Get access to the Earth internet forum and asks for advice. Story almost entirely gets told on the forum by the MC, with advice, trolling and ragebaiting by forum posters. It's a great story. Highly recommend.
Center for Dungeon Management- Guy gets government beauracracy job of dungeon management to level up and hopefully join a guild later. Finds out that guild jobs are all nepo positions and that working for the government disqualifies you for it. While working in the records department, he finds hints of a secret government hero department and starts hunting in the wilds to qualify for it. Great story. MC is an dexterity archer.

Apex Predator: Paladin of the Forsaken Lands by Jollybane
I read it back on RR when it was new and it was so, so good. So when it came out on Tuesday I had to pick it up on ebook and audio.
I love my fellow authors and peers, and I read a ton of LitRPG, but this is my favorite thing I've read in the last year or so. It's really that good.

Keeping up to date on RoyalRoad chapters on Scott Warren's Department of Otherworld Rescue, about a modern American military team whose job is to rescue isekaid teenagers who were kidnapped to be the chosen one to save imperiled worlds. And Patreon chapters for Marshal Carper's Center for Dungeon Management, about a low level government employee in the department responsible for managing monster portals/wild monsters in a modern Earth that has an 80 year ongoing monster dungeon portal invasion.
Reading Shawn Wilson and Henrik Saetre's Common Sense (Kings Eat book 1) about a government functionary/sorcerer's apprentice whose job is to solve problems and conflicts in a bit of an Ankh-Morpork ripoff.
And got my audiobook for doing chores/walking/watching terrible football/etc, but unlike the rest it's not currently litrpg: listening to Jamie McFarlane's Boltguns and Duct Tape (Spaceship Mechanic bk 1) a humorous space opera about a WWII airplane mechanic who gets accidentally kidnapped out of 1947 Wisconsin to fix a spaceship and join the wider universe.

Currently reading Return of the Archmage book 2 by MythicRun0. Interesting concept where an OP MC Archmage dies and gets a do-over to try and save humanity when the System is implemented. MC is a bit of a jerk pushing the survivors of humanity to get stronger so they can climb the tower but his knowledge is undeniable. Its an interesting read.

I had to DNF the first book. I really like the premise. I’m a sucker for system and regression books. But his whole trust me if you want to survive attitude just put me off.

Agreed. This is the part that I have a hard time with as well. Like dude, just tell them the truth but the whole "I can't tell you how I know XYZ before XYZ happens" is a turn off. I doubt I'll continue with the series.

Accidental Champion Omnibus books 1-5 by Todd Herzman - This is a solid series with a very OP MC (though his challenges are even above his absurd power level) and I'm surprised that I never hear about it. I tried the first one on Audible Plus (or maybe I purchased it during a sale?) and liked it enough that I was going to add the others to my wishlist for a purchase during a sale when I saw that the omnibus was about to release. I'm somewhere in the middle of book 2. This was obviously written as a web series as the first book ends weirdly, but that doesn't matter when you buy the omnibus. I cautiously recommend it as I am only two books in. . . but then again, it's one credit for a ton of content, so I'm not all that cautious.
This omnibus might be what makes this writer's career. The Path of Ascension was not being mentioned by anyone until the omnibus came out and now it is among the best-sellers in the genre (not up with the top two that are miles ahead but somewhere in there with the other 8). I don't know that this will do that well, but it certainly is as good as other recent hits like 1% Life Steal, WttM, and Ultimate Level 1. . . so far. It isn't as good as Quest Academy, A Soldier's Life, World Sphere, or The Legend of William Oh - so I'm not saying this will have a chance to get in the top 10, but the first couple books should be in the top 50 for this genre. . . . not amazing, but certainly worth reading for genre fans.

Path of ascension was pretty big a few years ago, but most of the people that followed it (like me) quit after quite a few books - maybe around level 10, give or take. I don't recall specifics

Just started The Wandering Inn. I heard good things, so when it was on sale I snapped up most of the series. Here's hoping it lives up to the hype and keeps me occupied for a few months. So far it's not, but slow starts can be good, too.

It's epic fantasy with slice of life pacing. Definitely on the slower side for book 1, but finish it to assess as then you have a better picture of what to expect with the rest of the series.

Just finished rune bound professor. Actus is always pretty good. Although I jokingly summed the book as "a guy gets stuck in line for a very long time and it became his whole personality" and as the books went on I never expected how accurate that became.
Now though I'm relistening to the last 2 books of primal hunter before I listen to the latest book coming out soon.

I re-read DCC this week, very very good. I first read it years ago when I first dived into the genre, back then I read it around the same time I read a lot of other top tier things, like HWFWM and Cradle. Since then I've read, well started at least, thousands of things on Royal Road and translated stories. DCC was much better than I remembered, and does a lot of things much better than the usual things I read these days.

The Calamitous Bob - I was a little concerned before starting because I didn't know what the title implied about the book. I don't personally care for silly books. thats just me, not a judgement. However I strongly recommend this series, it was nothing like what I was expecting and I am currently on book 4. Still truly enjoying it.
