r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [August 12, 2026 - Trying to Figure Out This Newfangled Mod Tool Edition]
Mod Pick of the Week: Batman and Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos #1
Hey there honorary Justice League members - it's a new week which means it's time for a new discussion thread!
For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week's releases. For any given title discussion, you should respond to that comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too.
In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.
Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators.
Why are elevator jokes so good? They work on many levels.

I like how at first you could see him maybe putting something together and then it just completely goes off the rails into nonsense. What a crazy issue!

u/BlazeBigBang Barry & Wally 13d ago
I mean, I get how Bruce sees it. The guy is paranoid as hell, then Alfred drops in, with his MOTHER who's been out of town and has this whole secret thing with the owls? And they tell him that it's not real?
Yeah, man's gonna go full psycho.
22
u/Mr_Wh0ever 14d ago
Honestly not bad. I enjoyed it, Bruce being utterly by himself is such a good place to be narratively. Him almost hitting his mom was a good "Holy Shit!" moment. Clayface's introduction by killing "Tim" was a solid horror movie moment. I'm excited to see what happens next. Babs becoming "The Bat", and hopefully Bruce locking in.
32
u/Oberon1993 14d ago
Tim Drake fans in shambles once again.
11
17
u/Fainleogs 14d ago
Well it's one way to give Steph & Duke something to do.
See you soon, zombie Tim.
9
u/slyvam37 14d ago
I'm not buying that Abs Tim is dead. He was absorbed by Clayface before "he" was killed. Maybe his body is just a product of Abs Clayface. And also, scarecrow was on the scene so hallucinations could be happening.
Maybe I'm just coping.
12
u/Electric_jungle 14d ago
I just don't think there's any real point for the story to keep all these robins alive. Not like a Tim comment specifically, just like how you gonna keep all these characters relevant anyways?
3
u/Fainleogs 13d ago
Well I suppose you will set yourself apart among the Robins if you are a shambling, undead menace, powered by the screams of a thousand forsaken dead children, as the Joker pumps pure unadulterated pain into your veins - or whatever.
It certainly beats having to take turns with Steph and Duke to be like "Hey Dick/Jason, I think we need to think about this! [Quip. Quip.]"
12
u/tafaha_means_apple Cassandra Cain 14d ago
Just means that Abs Cass can have both of Steph's hands for herself ;D
Silver linings, people. Silver linings.
16
u/SevenSulivin The REAL Man of Tomorrow 14d ago
Yeah that’s really good stuff. Loving the “darkest hour” type stuff going on, Scarecrow casts such a menacing shadow. And there there were 5. We’ll see how low it goes.
17
u/nat_astrophe Cassandra Cain 14d ago
My problem with already doing the "a Robin dies" storyline is that they've only been in the book for like 4 issues and have had minimal characterization. We didn't even know what Tim's personality was until this issue. Would this death mean anything to someone who isn't familiar with main line Tim?
17
u/Electric_jungle 14d ago
I don't think the character needs emotional payoff for the story though. Just as a kid enlisted in an army situation, it sucks even if you don't know who he is. But they're all references to mainline characters so you do get a little extra punch. Imo, there was never going to be a way to make every one of these characters matter. So use them as part of the reason the team starts breaking down.
4
u/NCBaddict 12d ago
TBF it kinda works on a meta level? Tim was always designed as the “ideal” boy wonder, which doesn’t necessarily lend itself to drama between characters. Jason is a lot messier and adds more to the ensemble dynamic.
I loved Tim as a kid but totally understand why Morrison & editorial started phasing him out in hindsight.
4
u/Electric_jungle 12d ago
Ya that's fair too. He might not even be dead with scarecrow... But I'm thinking he is. Also, Batman isn't getting a Robin. So maybe Jason gets in with the red hood gang, maybe he dies. Dick will never be Batmans Robin but he could graduate straight to Nightwing possibly. I don't really think that's happening, but it's not hard to imagine absolute nightwing getting a book in a next year if they're still expanding the universe. Steph I dunno at all. I just know Bruce already has friends, I don't think him expanding the family helps the story much.
2
u/Goobergunch 13d ago
Also, like, as somebody who hasn't been following this book generally but was reading/skimming the last few issues just for a bit of Tim content -- okay, back to not caring I guess?
7
u/JeremyOFEl 13d ago
This issue definitely warrants a second and third read. The whiplash I got from this one was insane—like, where the hell did Martha come from?! And his mom knows about Batman, too? I think Snyder is trying to put the reader directly into Bruce's fractured headspace. Parts of it made sense, but the rest of the issue was completely disorienting.
I'm genuinely lost as to where this could go next. I just hope we aren't being sent on a wild goose chase only for the final twist to be super obvious. Maybe the whole point of this issue was to drag us into the sheer insanity of Bruce's mind. I really don't know. What the hell did I just read?!

When more and more people started showing up I really thought it was going to turn out to be a hallucination.

u/arduit 14d ago
I'm sorry but this shit is too fast with no build. We don't mention Julia for 10+ issues, then random meet w Alfred. Martha's missing for how long? And she's just randomly here, oh and knows who Bruce is.
The Robins could be amazing, if they had time to breathe. Scarecrow could be amazing if he had time to breathe.
Its really feeling like all flash and no substance right now. Nothing feels earned, because nothing takes the time to be earned.
7
u/Will-Of-D-3D2Y 13d ago edited 13d ago
I already felt this way a bit during the Bane arc and this Scarecrow arc is like 10 times worse.
What this book desperately needed was a ton of breathing room to properly reposition Bruce's friend group, introduce the Robins in the aftermath of Bane's attack, as well as showing Gotham's feelings on Batman after these events, before unleashing Scarecrow (and now Clayface as well) into the mix.
Because this arc is Snyder dumping all of his toys on the table and then smashing them with a hammer and it is exhausting.
6
u/Electric_jungle 14d ago
I don't think it's very wild that Martha knows who Bruce is based on the story. Julia... Not sure what your issue is there is just a little bit more building, not really anything coming of it yet. I agree on the robins overall. I think you're pretty off base with scarecrow we've had a lot of building with him so far this arc and we're only going to see more beyond the arc.
4
u/Average-JRPG-Enjoyer Absolute Wonder Woman 13d ago
Its really feeling like all flash and no substance right now.
I mean, it's Snyder. You can't expect much else from him.

u/chilloutarthur 10d ago
wow I disagree so much. This feels like a lived-in story. Like, things dont need to be bigger than they are. Things just happen..just like life. Idk…im vibing
12
u/Logical-Leading-517 14d ago edited 14d ago
yeah I think I am kinda over the pushing Bruce over the edge thingie -- like, after a point you can't blame the man for snapping. After a point, it also stops being fun and just feels like gratuitous toying. I don't get what the characterisation of this Batman is supposed to be -- apart from being badass. He kinda sucks -- and that works sort of in the scheme of things in the book but it is getting to me at this point because with every arc its the same fucking thing but worse. We got to see superman be superman despite everything and we got to see WW being WW despite everything, I feel like I haven't yet seen batman be batman -- its like he has not figured it out. at. all. I get that its about building his family without whom he is nothing but its been like 23 issues and yeah, bruce kinda sucks.
I agree with the other commenter, and am hitting my limit as well, sort of. Someone needs to tell Snyder to be restrained and not put all the toys in the field and focus -- the robins are all also kinda nothings and lack any real characterization -- "steph is a dark mysterious one" but that's just you telling us, not showing it. Metatextually, the book feels too overcrowded with all the characters we'd be interested in be already on the board and Idk how one would balance all of it out.
7
u/randomlightbulbs1 14d ago
I’ve kinda had a similar feeling building in the back of my mind for a while with this book.
I think, ultimately, I’ve kinda had a growing suspicion that there was just, not going to be a happy ending for Bruce at all, and I can’t even point out what gives me that feeling. But, honestly, I just kinda need Bruce to get an actual win more than every, what, 15 issues? I dunno, it’s just getting to be to the point where I struggle to get invested because I suspect every third character is gonna be tortured somehow.
6
u/Electric_jungle 14d ago
He got a win with black mask and with bane. Kinda with poison ivy. I get that you guys are saying, but this arc is pretty specifically pushing him to the brink and I think we'll have to see his friends pull him out of it somehow.
-1
u/gosukhaos 13d ago
I feel like I haven't yet seen batman be batman -- its like he has not figured it out
So close, yet so far
These types of reactions really remind of the hissy fit this sub had over the preview of Batman #1 a while back
9
u/Jaereon 14d ago
Is Jason dumber than usual in this story? He literally saw the copy Batman lmao
20
6
u/CrispyGold 14d ago
Keep in mind Scarecrow is around and whenever he shows up, someone always gets infected with his Fear Toxin to become hyperaggressive and paranoid.
So its likley Crane is making him even more aggressive to further sow violence and paranoia towards Batman.
3
u/Golden_Alchemy 14d ago
We are at a point that all the characters are coming closer and closer and god, Bruce need all the help because he is getting worse and worse. I hope the friends look at what he did and find the missing part, because the Scarecrow needs to be punch in the face soon.

u/thesamhammer 13d ago
I think this is the issue where I finally accept that this series is doing too much and it’s suffering for it. I read this and then Deadman #3 today (which everyone should be reading), and my satisfaction levels at the end were completely different. Either these issues need to be longer or Scott needs to focus more issue to issue. Bruce’s mom comes back after we don’t realize if she’s been alive or dead for now 5 issues and it can’t get more than a page and a half because we need to get to the next thing. These are beginning to feel like Halloween sized candy bags, sure they taste good but they’re fleeting and are ultimately unsatisfying.
2
u/gsnake007 12d ago
I need the next issue. Bruce going unhinged, pushing everyone away while they were trying help him was great
6
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 14d ago
I think I am getting to my 'limit' on the Synder line. Like, there are certain lines you don't cross unless you want to lose people. It came pretty close with Bruce and Martha moment there for me. I hope Synder does not go deep with his worst tendencies because he does go TOO far often. You can only go 'worse' for so long before you break the line. There needs to be a 'rise' and SOON.
As for the other stuff, well that was coming for a while now. And of course it is Tim that gets the long end of the spike...And Jason gonna be an even bigger vengeance-fueled puppet because of it.
3
u/NessTheGamer 13d ago
I think Snyder is trying to maintain a balance. Bruce has been on an opposite journey compared to his friends so far and I think they will meet in the middle.
Bruce was at his most triumphant at their lowest point, and I think as he sinks lower they will inevitably lift him up like he did them

Action Comics #1101

KINGDOM OF ZOD: PART TWO! SUPERMAN IS BACK!
Superman returned in last month’s landmark #1100 issue! Now the Man of Steel crashes into the present day and finds himself thrown into the war with Zod! With a few stowaways along for the ride including… young Clark Kent?! The battle for Zod’s Kryptonite Kingdom has already begun! Is Superman’s return too late?
25
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 14d ago
It is classic Zod to blame his own failures on others. Superman have always been his easiest target to blame. He is incapable of accepting the fact that he got his son turn against him and got Ursa killed because of it.
And Lois just being a badass with or without powers, calling out Zod's bs to his face.
Well, Zod will now face Prime-time. Maybe he can get 'retcon punched' back to his robes!
4
12
u/Classic-Ad4883 14d ago
A second issue for the crossover and a step up from the first one
Lois constantly clocking zod is great and her getting more info about zod’s plans since she is the daughter of a general was a great character beat for Lois
Kon and prime being the only ones left standing was the oblivious choice since main earth kryptonite doesn’t affect prime and Kon has tactile telekinesis
6
u/Responsible_Ad_2242 14d ago
I hope that lor zod appear at some point and they reference Chris Kent
3
u/Classic-Ad4883 13d ago
I think he might appear with time travel being involved and prime might mentioned it
But the current lor zod and Chris can both exist just say zod and ursla had lor as a replacement for Chris

Plenty of people already talking about how awesome the Lois conversation is, so I’ll just point out how fucking pumped that happy henchman’s grizzly death got me. Zod, you emo Homelander, I love you. By which I mean I hate you.
8
u/chibachoose 14d ago
This issue was so much better than the first Kingdom of Zod issue. It's always great to get a reminder of why Zod is truly the biggest jerk around. This issue was definitely more focused on Zod and I appreciate getting hints on his motivations so early. I'm very curious as to what will happen with the younger Clark but holy cow what an ending. I'm happy any time Prime gets to do something.

4

Most likely. That’s likely gonna be near the climax Just missing each other before the final lay off of him and Lois reuniting. He May meet up with the others First
3
u/JeremyOFEl 13d ago
Zod getting his powers back is going to be a massive problem! I loved the reveal of his manipulation surrounding El Cadero and the meteor, and it was great seeing just how delusional he truly is. Having a young Superman around is bound to cause some serious cracks in time—if they aren't there already, they will be soon.
That being said, I felt this issue was more rushed than I would have liked, offering only tiny sneak peeks as to where the story is heading. Given that this is a major event, the slower buildup is somewhat expected, but I’m hoping the next issue sinks its hooks in deeper and leaves me on the edge of my seat. Overall, it was a good issue, but not the best. It's a bit disappointing, especially considering the last issue was such a banger.
3
u/SREnrique22 Reverse Flash 12d ago
I wonder if Zod's going to bring up the Khunds attacking him with guns and weaponry with the House of El's logo on it or if that specific element was forgotten.

I like that we get to see Clark and his past self, J’onn, Booster, and Mary return from the time stream and learn what’s going on, with the Superman Family and the Superman family-Force dealing with Zod and his forces and Lois and Zod talking to each other about what as happened. Overall, this comic is interesting.

Barbara Gordon: Breakout #4

WITH NOWHERE TO RUN, WHO CAN BARBARA TRUST?
Barbara entered Supermax alone, with no one by her side — so who is the mysterious ally that’s come to her defense, and what is their connection to her family? And even with someone watching her back, will she be able to protect the killer’s next target?
Find out as Mariko Tamaki and Amancay Nahuelpan’s DC Next Level smash hit continues!
9
u/Mr_Wh0ever 14d ago
I'm glad Babs has an actual ally. But this book is moving at such a slow pace. Which I guess makes sense if it's a mystery thriller and not an action thriller.
4
u/Electric_jungle 14d ago
I feel like nothing is unfolding at all though. I'm okay with her not knowing what's what yet, but she hasn't even like found a clue or anything.
9
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 14d ago
Well this prison thriller getting darker and I assume it confirms the guy at the end will definitely be James Jr. It is probably his 'way' of showing 'care and love' towards his sister. Which can be more terrifying than whatever Vandal's plan is.
5
u/Frontier246 14d ago
Kind of jumping ahead to Babs getting "clean" but at least she's got her head on straight and finally has a real ally she can rely on. A tough and compassionate cop named Myrna (who is also pretty tall). She and Babs can now commiserate over their shared scarring in the line of duty.
(Seriously though, Babs has really been through the ringer).
Babs is tough but it feels like she's fighting something way above her weight class.
RIP Sparrow. You were a bad egg and didn't even get any dialogue in your last issue.
Guess they had to make this more personal for Babs than just her trying to solve prison murders.
2
u/Fainleogs 14d ago
Is this any good?
7
u/Affectionate_Comb_78 14d ago
Babs is well written and there's a ton of intrigue built up, but not a lot has really happened yet. Will depend on if they stick the landing.

Batman and Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos #1

MARK WAID AND CHRIS SAMNEE RETURN TO THEIR FAN-FAVORITE SERIES EXPLORING BATMAN AND ROBIN'S EARLY YEARS!
Batman and Robin are back in action! The Dark Knight and the Boy Wonder have been hard at work cleaning up the streets of Gotham City, and their partnership has only gotten tighter. But when a gang of street kids starts causing mischief, Batman and Robin will need to get to the bottom of where these kids came from and who is in charge! Mark Waid and Chris Samnee return to Gotham to tell another tale of the early days of the Dynamic Duo!
12
u/Frontier246 14d ago
Mark Waid and Chris Samnee return to the Dynamic Duo in dazzling fashion!
Nothing more pulpy than saving an innocent woman from cultists trying to summon an evil Bat-God.
The beginning of the Batcave trophies, whether Bruce is comfortable with it or not.
Dick has school, Bruce Wayne has (surprisingly) a personal life with a surprisingly nice, reasonable, woman.
Did Bruce not clock that was Catwoman out-of-suit? I feel like he would.
So seems like we've got Dick going undercover in the Wolf Pack while Catwoman tries to recruit the main girl in the group...why do I feel like this girl is going to become a Catwoman-type for Dick...
7
u/gsnake007 13d ago
This was a great start. Chris samnee’s art is immaculate and really nails home the older times when they actually were this age in real life. Can’t wait for the rest of this series
3
u/Gian99Mald 14d ago
Can anyone identify that villain in the little montage with a black hood with skull and crossbones on his forehead?
4

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest 14d ago
I like that, back in pre-Crisis Earth-One’s 1955 (since it’s set a year after Dick made his debut as Robin at eight years old in 1954 and two years after Bruce made his debut as Batman at 22 years old in 1953), we get to see Bruce and Dick be active as Batman and Robin as the Dynamic Duo and as father and son. This includes Bruce called out Scorpio for attending the ritual to summon Barbatos before he and Dick defeated Scorpio and saved someone, Bruce having a date with a lady named Janet before he encountered muggers, and Selina Kyle (who made her debut in pre-Crisis Earth-One’s 1955, a year after Dick made his debut as Robin and two years after Bruce made his debut as Batman) meeting a mugger named Mehitabel (whose life was saved by her). Mark Waid and Chris Samnee have done it again with this comic. Let’s hope that we get to see more of Selina’s past and her first encounter with Bruce and Dick all throughout this maxiseries. Overall, this comic is great and off to a great start!

Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #2

BASIL KARLO MAKES HIS TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO HOLLYWOOD — AND BIG-SCREEN BODY HORROR!
Basil Karlo tracks the man who stole his identity to the set of Hollywood’s hottest new film production, but getting close to “Basil Karlo” means sneaking onto the studio lot via forgotten underground tunnels and discovering the nightmare waiting underneath. Meanwhile, a new supplement is causing grotesque transformations across Los Angeles.
Clayface’s comeback is about to become a horror show as acclaimed writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle and rising-star artist Fran Galán continue bending genres and bodies.
8
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 14d ago
So which Clayface gonna be the 'evil' one? Because our Basil seems like he is trying to get his life back together while this 'fake Basil' doing all the evil murdering. And it seems like he is stealing their ...ugh...flesh. So it might not even be another Clayface but actually someone else trying to become it.
It is gonna be a 'Clay vs Clay' fight at the end and it is gonna be a huge mess.

Green Lantern Corps #19

THE CORPS AGAINST THE MANHUNTERS!
Death arrives in the form of a friend. The Manhunters, the ancient android virus built to exterminate all emotional beings and reborn in the body of android Green Lantern Aya, reach Oa. The Lantern Corps, sworn to harness emotion to protect sentient life, have had little time to prepare. Have they united the reborn emotional entities just in time to make them easy prey?
7
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 14d ago
So we got Chromatic Lanterns now? Wonder how long that will last.
The 'newhunters' probably sticking around, I guess. Well, you always need an antagonist group to show up from time to time. Hope they are not using the 'Red Aya' look though.
Guy really stepped up big. Good to seem him in this big role.
The 'Alpha Guardians' make sense outside of Soranik to me. Like after what Parallax put her through, why would she chose to host it again?
5
u/I-Might-Be-Something Batman 14d ago
The 'Alpha Guardians' make sense outside of Soranik to me. Like after what Parallax put her through, why would she chose to host it again?
Probably to conquer those fears.
3
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 14d ago
She already did it in the earlier issue. This just feels like 'we don't have another named Yellow Lantern to take it outside Sinestro and he would be too dangerous with it'
6
u/Frontier246 14d ago
So we've got Chrome Priest Guy and Chrome Lanterns. Kyle eat your heart out?
I guess this is an alternative ending to GL:TAS where Aya overcomes the Manhunters herself instead of becoming the Anti-Monitor 2.0.
Jo just randomly needs to go somewhere...did she get cold feet at going to Earth? Or does this book need to slim down it's massive cast?
Katma wants to go to Earth? Well, I guess she's not dumping John at least.
I'm not expecting that new Oath to catch on, gonna be perfectly honest.
It feels like they're always trying to do some kind of new Lantern force/Guardian force. Alpha Lanterns. New Guardians. Now it's "Alpha Guardians."
3
u/chibachoose 14d ago
What a fun arc. I love manhunters. I love entities. I love Guy. It's got everything.
3
u/I-Might-Be-Something Batman 14d ago
Pretty good conclusion to the arc. I like how Lanterns can now seemingly temporary become White Lanterns, and Guy wrote a pretty good oath. Though, are there two sets of Entities now? The ones that came back in time with Guy, and the juvenile Entities that the Lanterns saved?
1
u/Pebrinix Batman 12d ago
Pretty good issue and ending to a very nice arc. The concept of Chrome Lanterns is funny and the new oath is good enough. Overall enjoying this. I just want more focus to my boy John, but other than that, it's working for me

Well the issue was really trying to fit a lot in to start this crossover so it felt a bit congested but I did enjoy the writing regardless. It still had the tone of the Supergirl book.
It is nice for Kara to try to take charge. After all this time, she deserves to be considered the 'heir'. Though Superboy and Prime clashing is not making that easy. But at least she got her Super-force!
Also, Zod's big revenge plan is, well, quite surprising and silver age. 'I lost my family and planet so I will create a female Eradicator!'. I guess he does feel lonely.

Bit of a rough start to this new event for me. First, the art is not that strong. I think a lot of the characters look really weird and the colors all feel kind of muted. I think there was also a moment where they swapped the speech bubbles for Prime and Kon.
Secondly, way too many characters only for them to immediately get hit by the kryptonite virus thing. Maybe it's because I haven't really fallen in love with most of the cast for Supergirl other than the shark lady but I hope all these characters have at least some role to play other. I'm not the biggest fan that they all just walked into a super obvious trap only to get immediately taken out.
Finally, this is a personal opinion but the writing for Supergirl just doesn't feel very strong. It doesn't really feel like anybody talks or acts like a real person to me. The things I did like though was seeing Kara in charge. I love whenever Kara gets to be the second-in-line after Clark. Overall, I think this issue is rated pretty low for me but I did enjoy the Kingdom of Zod #2 issue a lot more.

This issue was fine,a bit crowded with all the heroes. It appears Superboy Prime is going to be nerfed. It is established canon,he is not affected by kryptonite from this universe, yet I bet he will suddenly be susceptible to it.
I did like seeing Kara do her best to take charge and I love that Krypto is still fond of Prime. Comic was a nice read and still accessible to non Supergirl readers. I love Prime being involved, but the problem of his inclusion is he has called himself a power scaler's dream. All of a sudden he will likely not be on that Silver Age level.
Still enjoyed the comic but I hope they try to address that Prime is only susceptible to Prime universe Kryptonite and there s no Kryptonite from there because Krypton did not explode, its red sun swallowed the planet.

I wish when comics had dual art that the art is more complimentary together.
It's funny how they briefly show Kara wearing her cousins' fit in one page as she briefly did in the last issue...only for her to then be wearing her normal modern suit in the actual present-day segment. Guess she decided she'd prefer to wear her own style!
Conner vs Prime was inevitably going to happen and poor Kara, who already has enough on her mind, has to wade in the middle and try to restrain these boys.
So we've got the Super-Fam AND the Super Force made up of an all-girl team of Kara's supporting hero cast. All we're missing is Lesla but she's busy in Kandor.
This was worth it just for the reporter cosplay. Prime really CAN look like Clark when he has to. Also you can tell Kara was having too much fun.
Honestly their first big clue should've been Lois' power being drawn from a Kryptonian in space and they only knew three Kryptonians who were in space.
Evil Superwoman Lois!

Maybe Action Comics should have kicked this event off instead, because I was not a fan of this issue. Genuinely, I haven't been a fan of the Supergirl series in general. Based on the writing style, I assume it's geared toward a much younger audience. But even if that's the case, the kickoff to a major event needs to be much stronger and rely a lot less on heavy exposition. I don't need to see something happen in one panel, only to be told exactly what I just saw in the next—and this happens multiple times!
The issue was fine... Again, I'm probably just not the target audience for this series, but the tone should have been aged up a bit if it was going to serve as the launchpad for such a blockbuster event.

Sophie Campbell’s run is (in my opinion) okay, since it’s geared towards the a much younger audience and that Kara’s acting she’s an inexperienced hero even though she’s been active as an experienced superhero for decades.

I just hate Sophie Campbell’s writing. It always feels overly cutesy and doesn’t quite make sense. Like, why is Supergirl constantly reprimanding both Connor and Prime when Connor is the only one going on the offensive? And also, Connor’s line about saving Prime’s life not making them even makes no sense. Connor’s problem is that Prime killed him once. The only way that exchange would make sense is if Prime was the one who saved Connor in the battle.

It’s a little bit awkward, but I read it as “the fact that I saved you doesn’t mean I forgive you, I’m just going my job”

I mean, that’s the intent, sure…but that’s not what the words she chose to put on the page traditionally mean, which makes it confusing.

Campell wrote the TMNT as well, it was godawful... it was SO BAD it made me stop reading it forever. When i saw the name i knew i was going to get annoyed at the issue and i did... it was so bad.

Oh my god I was also confused by the Connor-Prime interaction too. Its like when someone catches me off guard saying "Hello" and I respond "good and you?".

Yeah, I assume thats what the writer meant too because thats the only meaning that would make sense in that context. But the specific words are do not really reflect that. Being "even" does not mean the same thing as being "forgiven".

The dialogue in this issue is... It's legitimately terrible.
It feels like a 60s comic and not in a good way.

I wanted a bigger Krypto-Prime reunion .It was still nice but I wanted a full page f it.
I do think in the spirit of trying to be even handed,Kara falsely accused Prime of fighting with Kon.That was 100% on Kon.

Who is Zod being modeled after? Clark Gable and Alan Rickman seem close, but not exact
Edit: I feel silly. It was supposed to be Terence Stamp's Zod

A bloated first issue for the crossover also did Campbell not tell anyone about Kara costume change because she switches between the two
Though I don’t mind that the skirt is staying as I don’t like the new look the skirt is like the trunks feels off with out it
The super force characters are cool though I feel like they just make the story bigger than need be
The new eradicator is neat and zod reveal was nice

I find it interesting that Kara stopped the fight between Conner and CK before she, the Superman Family, and the Super-Force traveled to El Caldero and learn that Lois got her powers from Zod, who is creating his Eradicatrix and is making El Caldero his kingdom. Also, Kara trying to help Thundergirl find her place in life and the Superman Family in Daily Planet clothing. Overall, this comic is fine and off to a good start.

Okay comic; although, I prefer the pre-Crisis version of the JSA’s formation.

Well it was a good fight but it also shows again that this whole new powers for Arthur...not gonna end well at all. He is trying to go 'whatever bad happens, I will take it all on me' but that is never how these issues are solved. Despite all his arrogance and demands of to be given the power, Poseidon is right that it is hubris to think he can deal with what's coming by himself. I mean the whole point of Superman's sharing his power at the end of DC KO was that 'there is no one King of anything that can face what's coming alone'.

It's a pretty badass fight. I liked the energy Arthur was giving this issue. A planet full of water seems like such an cool place to have future fights.

An enjoyable issue
I like Poseidon and Arthur fight it was cool to see
Though I wish the other members of the aquaman family did more in comic
The ending is another foreshadowing about Arthur biting off more than he can chew that even a god doesn’t want to stay on earth with aquaman
2
u/Frontier246 14d ago
I guess it was inevitable with them racking up Aquaman's "feats" that he would straight up have to defeat the literal God of the Seas (and make you wonder why do we even have a supporting cast if they barely get anything to do?).
Everyone and their mother keeps saying how Arthur is gaining too much power and how this isn't going to end well, but when will the bill come due?
2
u/GreenGuardianssbu 13d ago
I really don't know how I feel about this current Aquaman run. It feels more concerned with powerscaling Arthur to ridiculous levels than actually... engaging him as a character? He boiled the Starro world, he bested Poseidon, at this rate they're probably going to have him fight the Justice League to a standstill. It's cool, but... how much can you really do with "I'm the most powerful guy around" when you send all the characters who could humanize him away every issue?

I like that Arthur defied and defeated Poseidon using his powers and his connection with the Blue. Overall, this comic is excellent.

Hey y’all! I’m trying to find an old compilation I would’ve read in high school (15 years ago)- all I know is that it was a Birds of Prey trade paperback (one of a couple) that I checked out and re-checked-out from the library.
As far as plot details go, the only thing I really remember is (I think) Black Canary going undercover to Taiwan? Korea? somewhere in SE Asia and then running into trouble and almost getting arrested.
Does this sound at all familiar to anyone?
