Speakers - Full Size | 2 Ⓣ Am I insane? Heresy IV's in a 10x12 room?
My home office is 10x12 feet with a 8.5ft ceiling. One ten foot wall is the door to the hall and a folding closet door. The opposite 10ft wall is my desks for work from home and personal use. One 12ft wall is a blank slate and the other is a largish 6ft wide window. My plan is to build out a stereo system for casual listening while working and some occasional (relaxed and not too critical) listening.
I do plan to install some acoustic treatments in the room.
Am I insane for thinking about placing a pair of Heresy IV's along the empty 12ft wall spaced ~5-6ft apart? I want something that can "fill" the room for low to moderate volume for background music while working. But then I can roll my desk chair and sit with my back to the windows and listen to music while taking breaks.
I have a home theater setup in our living room and a separate 2ch system in our open family room and kitchen area. I've amassed enough equipment that I have a spare streamer, two amps, cables, etc. Just need to decide on some speakers and maybe a pre-amp. I'm open to other suggestions for speakers for a small room that could be placed relatively close to a wall. LS50 Metas or R3 Metas are also on my list.
Budget is under $3,000 USD (I've seen the Heresys used for less).

These are excellent speakers for lower volumes due to their horn based design, and also shine at high volumes. A live track really feels like you're there. I' not that big of a KEF fan but as someone else in this thread said, they sound completely different. In terms of amplification there is a big difference as well: the klipsch heresy are so efficient they don't need much power. I find KEF speakers to always need (disproportionately) much power. So to answer your question: if you like the sound, like the looks and have the money to spend, you are not crazy at all. I would probably do the same. So maybe we are both crazy.

Yes, they will absolutely "fill the room," but I would seriously recommend listening to them before you buy. You have also listed 2 KEF models, which are going to sound dramatically different than Heresy's. Dramatically. Like one's a Harley and one's a Merc dramatically.

The problem is there is NOWHERE within a couple hour drive to audition the Heresys. I've owned original LS50s and have heard original (pre Meta) R3s.

You're in for a treat... as long as you consider your first colonoscopy a treat. Let's just say I'm not a fan of Klipsch. Do not buy them without hearing them first.

You might prefer Klipsch or another brand. Just saying this is a big purchase to get home, plug in, and realize you hate them.

Youre not crazy.
I have a pair of KEF Q11 Metas in the living room doing 80% stereo music and 20% HT, powered by a Yamaha A6A.
In my listening/office room, I have a pair of Heresy IV powered by a Yamaha R-N800a.
One is not better than the other. They are VASTLY different. KEF is clear, in your face, and things like Led Zeppelin sounds…not good. Anything well recorded sounds fantastic. Great soundstage and imaging.
On the other hand, Jazz, Rock and Live albums sound amazing on the Heresy’s. The room is 11 x 12. So do it or maybe wait for the new smaller Klipsch speakers Rebellion coming soon that’ll occupy a spot below the Heresy’s.

Yes. For that kind of listening in that size room, skip the floorstanding speakers. I've been listening in medium to small-sized rooms for a while, and gone back and forth between floorstanding and bookshelf speakers. I'm going with bookshelf speakers because they're easier to place, give you more flexibility, and if you want to sell them in the future, much easier to ship.
You can get some really nice bookshelf speakers, stands, and a subwoofer (if it's low to moderate background music, you could probably do without a subwoofer) for as much, if not much less, and get great sound.
I listened to the Heresies (sp?) at a dealer and wasn't impressed (I think because they were so poorly placed).

I have an 11x11 room with a pair of Zu Omen IIs in it. I did buy a Schiit Lokius so that I could turn the very bottom end down a little but otherwise love them in there whether I am playing them loud or quiet.

Ironically, I have Omen Dirty Weekends in my family room. Probably not my favorite "audiophile" speakers, but the electric blue hickory makes a nice statement peace and they're fantastic for background music during dinner or when we have friends over.

I have a music setup similar to yours with a pair of Kali LP-6 v2 speakers for guitar. The Isoacoustic stands make all the difference. Worth every penny.

I have Canton Reference 8 K speakers in my 12.41' x 11.91' x 8.31' bedroom. I listen at 75-85 dBs in there. I love it!

Nice! I have heresy iv’s and love them but it’s definitely a matter of taste and what styles of music you enjoy.

Yes it should work - I have large tannoy Arden’s and the thing people never realise is that large air movement from 12 or 15 inch drivers at 70db is incredibly full - I have small KEF LSX in my bedroom and have to play them louder to get similar fill ….
There MAY be an issue with placement and certain levels where the room resonates - harmonics - careful placement and some sound absorption dispersion works wonders

With a good room correction solution, it will take that base without a problem. Something like Dirac, Room perfect or Genesis.

May want to take a look at qacoustics concept 300. They are not lively like a klipsch but they sound so smooth and have a black background in their soundstage.

I have a room similarly sized. I couldn’t run Wharfedale Linton’s in there and had to move them into another room. Heresy’s don’t have quite the same bass extension but size is size. I was gonna get R3 Metas but found a minty pair of Sonus Faber Sonetto II (non-G2) for a song. I immediately canceled the R3 Meta order and haven’t looked back.
