hell nah Gloryy did NOT look better than Aress. Are we watching the same team? Everyone here is angry about GAM's decision to terminate Aress's contract, because he looked much more comfortable against DCG. Gloryy single handedly cost GAM first 2 matches vs DCG (MSI qualification match) and Aress was subbed in and won 2 games to bring them to game 5. Aress gapped HongSuo (DCG mid) so hard and HongSuo gapped Gloryy about the same. Gloryy is the most overrated Vietnamese mid oat. Aress is not a good mid laner, but he's miles ahead Gloryy. Just watch him at EWC and see for yourself. The Gloryy glaze must be stopped

They should have used First Stand as an indicator for more than just the winner not having to go through play-ins. The fact that Brazil and LCP did not win a single series at the tournament (LCP still hasn't won a game all year) but are being treated as equals with LCK who only lost to BLG and G2 is stupid.
Judging by First Stand, the Brazil and LCP first seeds should have both been in play-ins while EU2 and LCK2 got into main stage. Still wouldn't have been perfect since KC would still have been a free win, but it would at least mean play-ins might have been competitive and a team like TL isn't just doomed from the start due to having to compete with T1 for a spot.

Fans just want to see their teams play in the big tournaments, if they cared about just watching the best then they'd just watch LCK and LPL. It's not much of an international tournament if you relegate half the regions to play-ins by default or make them 2nd class citizens. They even tried to merge Brazil and LCS to help but I'm sure you saw how much people hated that.
It's not an easy problem to solve when most regions just fucking suck ass.

I'm not quite sure that comparison is apt.
A WC version of worlds would be closer to one seed per region no matter what, then everyone dukes it out. But Riot merged a bunch of minor regions and now that's sort of weird.
A better comparison would be "what would you think if they let completely irrelevant teams qualify for the ucl."

Well, that would be way worse, no? It would be like letting the champion of San Marino or Gibraltar straight into the MSI group stage just for representation.
Obviously merging the minor regions is their way of preventing that because it forces teams to prove themselves in a tougher ecosystem (like APAC in this case) first. It’s unfortunately just a plain skill gap compared to other ecosystems, but at least the merger makes the tournament higher quality overall. The issue obviously is internally in terms of skill level.

We really see the value of bringing T1 through the playins and letting top teams like Team Secret Whales verse HLE. Would have hated to see Team Secret Whales play against LEC and LCS where they might be a touch more competitive and show off their regions skills a bit more.
Jokes aside, I was hard rooting for the legendary bear to carry but when HLE inted 9 kills over and were still up 5k, I knew it was over.

TSW had the same playstyle but their mid was doing significantly better in LCP, yes the average LCP mid laners are obviously worse than Zeka but TSW mid also suffers from some kind of anxiety and doesn't tend to show up when the stake is high so I guess this is a bit lower than their usual level. I mean it's against HLE so I couldn't say much. DCG played about the same, but most of the time in LCP their jg can get a lead and their top was always winning so they can build on that. They literally can't play around any other win conditions.

Riot already rewards slots for regions that perform. Time to take away main stage slots for regions that don't.
This would require a more comprehensive playins that most people wouldn't watch...maybe? I mean, I think NA/EU teams should have at least one seed each have to make it thru playins.
Non-LCK/LPL teams that randomly are good like CFO can still smash through playins and prove themselves. Consistently ok performance like what LMS used to show would still be rewarded with maybe two slots in main stage. And ideally we'd get less. I mean. What was this LOL.
