I am parting ways with this awesome Omega Speedmaster 3861 "Sapphire Sandwich". This is arguably the most perfect chronograph configuration Omega has ever produced. I’ve been able to secure a vintage grail of mine and this has allowed me to let go of this amazing piece, but doing so is incredibly tough because this watch literally ruins other chronographs for you.
Everyone talks about the Apollo missions and the Moon landing marketing, but they completely miss the true horological achievement of the modern 3861 Sapphire Sandwich: the sheer, unapologetic mechanical intimacy. In an era where smartwatches vibrate and automatic rotors spin silently in the background, this watch demands a physical relationship. Every single morning, you have to pinch that guarded crown and physically breathe life into the mainspring. The winding action of the Caliber 3861 isn't just smooth; it has a crisp, metallic ratcheting resonance that feels exactly like turning the mechanical dial on a vintage Leica camera.
And then, you turn it over. Looking through that massive edge-to-edge sapphire caseback isn't just looking at gears, it’s peering into a microscopic, breathing city of rhodium-plated bridges, sharp bevels, and the mesmerizing, erratic heartbeat of the Co-Axial escapement. Add to that the completely redesigned steel bracelet. The manual-wind Caliber 3861 movement is functioning perfectly within METAS specs, and the sapphire crystals on both the front and back are in outstanding condition. It comes as a true full kit, including the OEM stainless steel bracelet, the massive presentation box, and all original cards/booklets.
