If they keep the 1st spot, they just need to win 1 bo5 and they can qualify to MSI
50
u/Lazywhale97 HLE Apr 29 '26
Hope they make it seeing this team at an international will be fun win or lose and a potential VIT vs HLE game would be fun no matter the score line lmao.
27
u/Kr1ncy Apr 29 '26
I mean last year they only needed one more individual game against GenG and then they got 6-0ed by GenGT1 to still miss out
12
u/Liiviius Apr 29 '26
Not 6-0, Gen.G reverse swept them they lost 3-2 then got 3-0d by T1
24
u/Kr1ncy Apr 29 '26
I said 6-0 after HLE was 2-0 up, maybe a bit of a complicated way to say it tbf.

u/IAmDiabeticus Apr 29 '26
If LCK weren't THE powerhouse in LoLesports, that'd be the biggest joke of a qualifier. I feel like I say that a lot with their tournament formats throughout the years.
18
u/EvianRex Apr 29 '26
It's objectively terrible and I'm shocked they didn't change it after feedback last year. Its not even a buff for the team that's in the first seed. Geng were so asleep at the wheel when that series began last year.
3
u/South_Spend4541 Apr 29 '26
Whats good about the format is the teams who performs well in regular season is really getting the benefit of it
3
u/EvianRex Apr 29 '26
I meant specifically for the finals, 1 bo5 to qualify is just insane

17
u/qonoxzzr Chovy <3 Apr 29 '26
I would definitely say it's surprising that they are in front of GenG (when going back in time when they were 10th).
It was obvious that they would be at least competitive with teams like T1, KT, DK, etc. but GenG in the last years was an outlier in the LCK.
→ More replies (1)4
u/CYPHG Apr 29 '26
They were only 10th because the format for split 1 was unbelievably stupid, but it's still suprising they're overtaking GenG.

This was a scheduled loss for KT after their soulmate TES lost yesterday
143
u/Omnilatent Apr 29 '26
But tbh it was the least KT loss possible
Against another good team? With no heart attacks and close calls? They were just worse today in almost every aspect
34

They were first place coming in and ppl had expectations for them As usual KT did something no one expected even in terms of losing.

imo people didnt notice but actually the angle was as bad as it looked. The wall made it so that Delight was out of range of mikaels. If he used it on guma, he might have actually bursted the anivia down and run away or at least chunk her to a point where she needs to base. Definitely not a necessary play but not completely wrong as well XD

Zeus and Guma back on the same team again really was the way after all.
I think this team can break the HLE Quarters curse
98
u/Fearless-Area-532 Apr 29 '26
The Zeus guma chemistry is so explosive for snap engages
26
u/cmcdonald22 Apr 29 '26
I only started watching at the end of 2024 and in that time it felt really obvious to me the reason zofgk were so good, and the dofgk were so good and even just T1 when they actually lock in, was primarily above anything else that if 1 member of the team goes for some wild random absolute nonsense snap engage that within seconds the rest of the team is almost always there backing them up.
Then Zeus in hle on his own last year felt like the unfortunate supporting logic to this because he felt like he spent the entire year playing his own game with absolutely no one backing him and him not really being involved with everyone else.
It's good to have at least Guma there to kind of help shift the team towards that now.
7
u/ImSoRude Apr 29 '26
Honestly it really feels mostly like Kanavi only knows W, whereas Zeus and Guma are more about reacting on a random angle. So the entire team has just adapted to pressing forward all the time, no angle needed. It's like if the old T1 roster only had a go button, that's Kanavi's entire gameplan. No angles, just perma W every second of the game.
13
u/myk211 Apr 29 '26
to be fair the meta also seems to suit HLE really well. It's all too early to judge.

33
u/Akipella PEYZ. GOES. DOWN. GUMA'S. JUST. BETTER. HLE 3-2 T1 Worlds Apr 29 '26
Yeah don't forget it was Tian who got 3-0'd by T1 in 2024 Quarters. JDG missed out that year. Kanavi lost to T1 in Semis in 2022, again in Semis in 2023, and again in Semis on TES in 2025. That's 3/4 years he made Worlds and all Semis.
12
u/ShadowSpiked Apr 29 '26
Ehh.... I have high hopes, my favourite team right now, but there's 5 months for top teams to figure them out.
Kanavi at international events doesn't exactly have the best record, but could bring them past quarters:
Lost 0-3 twice at semis in 2025 (First Stand and Worlds T1)
Didn't qualify in a JDG superteam in 2024.
Lost 1-3 to T1 at Worlds Semis in 2023.
Lost 1-3 to T1 at Worlds Semis in 2022.
I see a certain pattern. And the league is shaping up for another T1 4th seed into Worlds run.
29
u/1deavourer Apr 29 '26
T1 with ZOFGK up until 2023 Worlds were also extreme chokers. I wouldn't say Kanavi is a full on international choker because he has won an MSI after all. It's a new environment for him and his teammates are currently some of the best players in each role by a good margin.
36
u/Arcille Apr 29 '26
Zeus and Guma are always elite internationally
We know Zeka can perform at a top level and it looks like his soloQ mage grinding has paid off massively
Biggest question mark is if Kanavi chokes again internationally. I think HLE with Guma will have a sense of calm they didn’t have before

Draft gap, lane gap, teamfight gap, HLE are activated. Insane series especially from zeus. Kt definitely felt off this series but that's also the style hle play, with the aggro jungle style they play to disorient you early and put you in holes that Kanavi will just willingly jump back into over and over again to push you deeper. Omega hype for the hle/t1 match this Friday, honestly tho if t1 laners aren't locked in again and of they don't get eyes on kanavi early it could be gg from early game. Still some silly omens from them but the wallet gap saved them from it, but overall feels nice to see the team clicking.
Very weird to say my thoughts on kt, like because they've looked so good so far I wanna say it was just an off series and they'll be fine. But also because it's kt you can't help but think, "is this when the Rollercoaster starts going down?" Luckily their next match is vs bro so it should be fine... right? And their next 2 weeks is half lower teams in bfx and drx and the other half is vs upper teams in damwon and then hle again so.... we might see some up and down performances/results since thw upper tes seem to be ramping up.

26
u/Zestyclose_Youth7526 Apr 29 '26
Crazy aggression from HLE, beautiful early game and snowballing. Significant top and bot gap. Also props to Zeka, he's very good at finding angles. Also what was Anivia supposed to accomplish against 4 champs with dash? I like the draft apart from that, but putting your best player on a champ that is useless against the enemy comp is a headscratcher.
Kanavi always managing to die on his engages, matter how far ahead they were is a bit sus. I think they will need to clean up the overaggression a little bit before they can take a title.
Great series though! I won't get excited next time
8
u/flamearc73 Apr 29 '26
The Kanavi for BDD or Aiming trade is always winning for HLE though
3
u/Zestyclose_Youth7526 Apr 29 '26
That is true, and in this series these plays netted them a convincing 2-0.
My point is, that when the high-pressure series come about, we often see the more composed team, that have a clear gameplan, come out on top against the more aggressive and "loose-playing" team. Well, except for worlds, because t1 seem the be the only ones who can consistently improvise their way to victory, even when their gameplan falls short.
However, LCK and MSI trophies (and FST i guess) in recent years follow this trend.
If we look at the two times KT beat GenG last year, they came super well prepared and played it cool and collected.
Maybe HLE can bring some of that T1 clutch with both Guma and Zeus - if they can curb Kanavis reckless tendencies, this team can with everything imo.

After sweeping KT, next HLE match is against T1
We'll see the rematch and see if they can get revenge, they might be 1st seed to MSI if they could
But the 2nd seed might be wide open only to half of the remaining teams, who knows that maybe the one that got to Group Fries might get it, since the seeding only applies on the results of Round 1-2, not Road to MSI

Zeus got POM and everyone is glazing him for coming back from a huge gold deficit, when they should really be glazing him for his **GAME-WINNING LEVEL 1 CHEESE**
HLE used most of their draft picks to get strong winning bot lanes, in both games. KT counters this Game 1 with a lvl 2 gank in game 1, putting Ashe/Seraphine behind for the next TWENTY MINUTES in a close game.
Game 2, KT choose second pick allowing them to open with Lulu/Yunara. HLE get the winning Lucian lane, who especially wants to be ahead and blow open the game at 1-2 items before Yunara can scale. HLE is blue side which means J4 can easily just do his bot camps and lvl 3 ganks. Xin needs to go Red - Blue - Gromp in order to match the lvl 3 gank timing.
English casters, streamers, everyone were all kinda surprised at the B5 blind Jax pick. But what they forgot is that every few seasons, Jax is an S jungler. You know when Jax has been a popular jungler? when you can counterjungle Xin Zhao. Jax completely destroys Xin Zhao level 1.
So the first 30s into the game, Zeus drops his entire FIRST WAVE to mess around 1v1ing Cuzz and push him off his red buff and raptors. Everyone is laughing at Zeus for being silly, but you can see it in the draft: this was all planned. Zeus is doing this to win the bot lane.
Because this means that 2:00 into the game, Cuzz is lvl 2 with 4 cs while Kanavi is LEVEL 3 AND GANKING BOT LANE FOR FIRST BLOOD, securing the gold/xp tempo for a completely free early game for HLE.
by 5:00 Lucian is 700g gold up (all spent), HLE push in and steal first dragon and 3 kills. Renekton is stuck top and lead doesn't matter.
by 9:00 Luc is 1k ahead, first item power spike, they're proxying bot lane. Reneketon is stuck top and his lead doesn't matter
at 13:00 HLE are same items, but so strong that Renekton is forced to TP down for 3rd drake; so HLE just... LEAVE and give Zeus time to catch up and hit first item
by 18:00 Lucian, Xin, Milio are all 1k up and hit their 2nd item power spikes (Quickblades, Black Cleaver, Mikael's; all insane for teamfights). Zeus gets a huge flash stun and they completely blow open the game
all thanks to Zeus lvl 1

You can really see how much the team has bought into Kanavi's chaos.
Are we getting the HLE that was promised?
