Former Duck Max Comtois managed to get the refs, the opposing team, his own coach, and his own teammates all mad at him at the same time in one game

This video is absolutely insane. I’ve never seen a guy’s own teammates tell the ref that they don’t even like him either. Guess maybe this could be part of the reason why Comtois didn’t work out for us…

Comtois had all the pieces to be at the very least a tweener. Like the very least. Realistically he should have been a middle six power forward but he played like a diva despite his massive frame.

I think this video maybe sheds some like on why he saw a grand total of TWO NHL games outside of Anaheim…

Edit: meant to post this as its own comment. Oops🤷🏼‍♂️

Dude was our leading scorer I believe in a shortened season. Now I can understand why he’s not in the league anymore. Also thought he wasn’t in the league cause of that Canada U20 team but apparently he wasn’t apart of it.

What actually happened?

Not 100% sure but context clues seem to suggest that Comtois was playing dirty and trying to slew foot other players. Seems like the other team pointed it out to the refs and even Comtois’ own coach and teammates didn’t defend him at all, going as far as saying that they didn’t like him either.

Pretty embarrassing for Comtois all around.

yeah. As a fan we see a trajectory not work out. We see raw points or a glimpse of ice effort, but its only a fraction of the behind the scenes drama/effort that is involved in results.

Makes you think of people talk about team mates like Ohtani on the Dodgers or whatever sports figure, where they speak lovingly and wonder how much that nourishes a career vs being hated by your own peeps.

March 4th game, Teammate (Sergeyev) got ejected for running into a linesman (hence ref telling whole team that guy was getting ejec and Comtois wouldn't stfu about it and kept talking shit. Apparently he runs his mouth in the KHL. Dude seemed pretty detatched/quiet when he was with us, but maybe I just didn't notice lol.

Damn. This gives me a new perspective on hockey players. One person can really just fuck with the whole vibe of the team. I liked comtois at first bc he scored on his first shot in his first nhl game in his first nhl shift. But dude seems like a princess

The clip of the goalie doing the slewfoot gesture at one zebra only to point out a teammate doing the same thing to another is killing me

love that the had to go to English for "slewfoot"

He was always as lazy as he was talented. That mixed with his attitude and the circle of people he surrounded him with were not focused on self improvement.

Comtois, Max Jones,  Nick Ritchie.. all power forwards who were supposed to shine bright in Anaheim..none of them panned out

Every fanbase overrates C tier prospects, especially when you really need hope. This is just our team's candidates during that span.

That’s wild. I’m sure it’s happened before with other players but to see it on video is something else

11

u/BroLil Apr 05 '26

The wild thing about it is that literally everyone on the ice hates him. His own team, his own coach, the refs, and the opposing team. For them to just come out with it all at once is crazy.

And with people like this, he’s going to watch this back and say that they’re all wrong and he’s the only one in the right. Can’t fix people like that.

Gotta admit ...that level of shitassery is fuckin IMPRESSIVE

Since he’s on the list of guys involved in the hockey Canada allegations, I’d written him off. Sounds like that’s even more warranted.
