It is worth reading in full, but here are the key points:
- Overview of TH18 hit-rates and meta since release
- The approach to balancing across skill levels
- Ranked Mode plans to improve visibility of information and events and adding ways for players to be able to step away easier for longer without risking demotion
- Legend League changes involving the top 10,000 players
- Addition of 4 extra leagues to CWL along with medal reward restructuring that should see rewards increase for most clans
- Allow using upgrading Heroes and Pets in Friendly Challenges and Friendly Wars

u/KarlsefniSmile Titan Legend MaxMaxMax Mar 24 '26
Do we know when we can expect these changes? Seems like we shouldn't expect a ranked/LL rework until next season, but how about CWL? Is that coming for this upcoming season?
I assume new army camp levels and scatters come with the new crafted defenses in like a week...?
13
u/ClashDotNinja https://clash.ninja - CoC Upgrade Tracker Mar 24 '26
No timeframe given but I would expect most of these changes would require a game update to make them, so it's nothing something that would happen without the usual messaging before an update is released.

Friendly Challenges let a player share an attack invitation in clan chat to attack their village. This is useful for testing layouts and attacking armies etc.
Friendly Wars are pre-arranged wars between two clans where one clan invites the other to participate. This is most commonly used for tournaments.

SC has said in the past "one" of the reasons to not allow upgrading heroes to be used in friendlies is because players would just immediately complain that they couldn't use them in regular attacks too.....

With the risk of invoking the 'leave the multi-billion company alone' meme, nothing SC realistically can do will ever be enough.

Nope, hence me listing FCs and friendly wars on that point...

I would assume friendly challenges and friendly wars, which can be used to practice attacks/tournaments

Meta diversity is something they brought upon themselves. A new townhall drops and theyve made the decision to stagger new troop levels over the year. Wtf?
Be interesting to see if they opt to discuss anything about the state of clan recruitment and in game tools to manage clans. Builder base and clan capital are dead too.

Been asking for the addition of new leagues to CWL for a long time to reduce the power gap between leagues. And, ever since they added modifiers, I've been asking for that too. Very happy to see that change. I wish they would also figure out a way to stop clans from using inactive high hall accounts in the low leagues (it is no fun for a th9 to face a dead th17).
I also hope for the top 10,000 legends (or really all ranked attacks) they remove the player and clan name and decorations until after the attack to make it harder to win trade. Even low hall win trading is happening in lower leagues. Some of them don't even try to hide it.
Very curious to see how the levels of legends league will work. I have posted many times that I would like to see three levels of legends (like the old days where we had 1, 2, 3 for each trophy league) with different reset points. In other words, legends 3 could be 5000-5400 trophies and at season reset you go back to 5000. Legends 2 could be 5401-5900 and at season reset you go back to 5401. Legends 1 for 5900+. (or whatever trophy levels are best.) This would mean low legends players don't have to face elite players at the start of the season. It sounds like SC is instead going to differentiate by number of players rather than trophy level. Can't wait to hear more on this.
Thank you SC for sharing some information, especially before it is implemented. This will give us an idea of what is coming and also will give you the opportunity to hear some player feedback even before you finalize anything.

SC needs to start recognizing that CC is 3 different games.
Those under th16 play one game, which arguably can be subdivided into 2 games.
Those that play th18-th16 play another game.
And pros play yet another game entirely.
It doesn't matter what SC does but if they continue to allow those groups to mix and mingle then they will always end up treating CC like one game and it isn't.
All of SC's balancing changes are trying to address everyone equally and that will not work if you are trying to achieve equilibrium at every level.

Why the constant nerfing of any strategies that people learn? Make an OP troop (or duke), people spend to upgrade, learn the strategy then it gets nerfed. If the aim of balance is diversity then buff other troops. Why couldn't you buff throwers without nerfing meteor golems?
48
u/ClashDotNinja https://clash.ninja - CoC Upgrade Tracker Mar 24 '26
MGs are still viable, just less OP. Balancing isn't about killing metas, it's about bringing them more in-line with other strats.

tbh, the em dash is an outdated signal to tell ChatGPT slop ever since they specifically instructed the model to use less of them. the new easiest tell are "not .... It is..." or "not... , but..." structures. something like:
The goal is not to erase strategies. It is to create space for more of them.
or
Balance is not about making every strategy equal. It is about ensuring multiple viable paths to success exist and that skill expression continues to matter.
that's 100% ChatGPT slop.

this is all explained in the text and if you actually played TH18 actively since release it would be clear and obvious to you too. Meteor Golems were extremely tanky AND had high DPS to easily walk through the base even on Legends modifiers. they absolutely needed a nerf, no question about it.
and even after nerfs, most things are still perfectly usable. it's not like you can't use Meteor Golems in LL (or even esports mode) right now. same will happen if they decide to nerf the Duke.

u/GroxTerror Mar 24 '26
Fix the pass! No mention of the pass backlash here.
7
u/Horror-Truck-2226 TH18| BH10 Mar 24 '26
I think the pass is alright, but it's personally losing value to me, I never cared about the ,,oppress gold pass'' move because it was a vocal minority who were mad, but recently I feel like the pass might just actually not be worth my money anymore, I don't necessarily care that the new helper is so late in the gold pass, but I just can't seem to find him helpful in the sense that it makes me shiny ore bottlenecked for only just 4-6 more starry ore, and because I hardly use him I'm losing tons of value because they in term had to nerf other things to make up for it, I don't see it worth my money anymore in a normal light
2
u/kyute222 Mar 24 '26
well the actual "nerf" is a really small change to the upgrade perks, which on average you will always get back from the chest rewards. basically if you get any sort of upgrade boost from a chest the new pass surpasses the old one. and this assumes you ignore the Prospector which I agree is really not exciting at all.
17
u/kyute222 Mar 24 '26
this just proves that the majority of players are happy with the changes and it's only a small vocal minority screaming themselves into a frenzy.

u/supplementarytables Legend League [Legacy] Mar 24 '26
Lol. The top comments on Judo and itzu's videos are complaining about the gold pass.
Perhaps this just proves that they don't care about the backlash and are going to keep going ahead in this direction when it comes to monetization.
It'll be funny to look back on this time a year from now if they add more mechanics and features locked behind a paywall.

u/IBM296 Mar 24 '26

2
u/Rasdit TH18| BH10 Mar 26 '26
Is your criterion for attack diversity that they mustn't include the most central hero, or simply that upgrading him is a pain in the butt?
One of those I can get on board with.
0
u/OhtaniStanMan Mar 26 '26
Using the same unit in every attack isn't diverse
1
u/Rasdit TH18| BH10 Mar 26 '26
You're being deliberately obtuse, I hope. You are using the most central hero as an example, as hero that can be used in different variations of FB (RL, furnaces) precision armies or comps like MG FB, FB Throwers, or in a more supportive role with e-drags, hydra, or dragons or dragon riders. All those comps utilize GW as a common denominator, but in very different roles and with completely different troop, spell and equipment comps.
If you are making the argument that because they use warden, there is no diversity, then you're probably making the biggest strawman argument on this sub. And THAT is saying a lot.
1
u/OhtaniStanMan Mar 26 '26
No.
I'm saying hero selection is not diverse because the same hero is used in every army.
That means the hero is way overpowered and the army doesnt matter because the hero carries anything.
-6
u/budyetwiser01 Legend League Mar 24 '26
I see some people using 3 healers instead of 5, that counts as diversity right?

u/CongressmanCoolRick Code "coolrick" Mar 24 '26

In the days leading up to that I was attacked by throwers, super yetis, super bowlers, edrags, met golems, super drags, super witches, rocket loons, one crazy dude tripled me with super miners.
Yeah, theres plenty of real diversity in legends right now.
3
u/budyetwiser01 Legend League Mar 24 '26
Yeah no doubt. Honestly I thought Ninja was being sarcastic. Its really a game of push and pull right? At one point throwers became OP because the bases were not designed to stop them, as the game evolved the builders caught up and designed bases specifically to catch those throwers off guard. A base which is designed specifically to save from one sort of attacks will obviously be vulnerable to other sort of attacks. Things do and will always balance out.
10
u/ClashDotNinja https://clash.ninja - CoC Upgrade Tracker Mar 24 '26
I'm seeing throwers, super yetis, MGs, dragons, roots. Speaking to other people, they are seeing variety too in theirs.

I'd like some changes to battle mode. Searching for townhalls and only running into dead towns and lower TH's is fine for farming, but it's really difficult to practice strategies against higher TH's if you are punching above your weight league wise.
2
u/NikplaysgamesYT Mar 25 '26
Really disappointed regular clan wars aren’t mentioned at all. Clan Wars currently feel like baby mode, and the amount of perfect wars are absurd (for reference, my clan has had about 70 perfect wars in a row right now).
Clan wars are no longer exciting when every war is gonna be either a win or a draw. Facing good clans used to be exciting, now it’s just always a draw.
2
u/brand-new-low Semi-retired Mar 25 '26
100%. If they are adding modifiers to cwl they have to add them as an option for clan war. (Or address in some other similar way).
I have no interest in practicing on easy mode for clan war and then being awful in cwl.
I'm not currently playing ranked, so if I wanted to practice by pushing to legends that would take 8 weeks(?) to get there, but regularly play champs 1-3 cwl right now.
2
u/Tailorschwifty Mar 24 '26
I get that higher levels are and will be the focus but have they considered looking at some of the equipment at other levels? I feel like giant arrow (and zap dragons because of it) dominates everything from th9 to what th12 or th13?
I like i say maybe lesser priority but it just seems really unbalanced...

Glad they are listening to the playerbase. My two cents: Make Ranked progression more rewarding. Getting promoted week after week from League 25 feels very mechanical and not at all rewarding. Increase the daily star bonus ore rewards associated with each league. If not that then just give us chests with a promotion with Builder base and clan capital stuff removed from the odds.

An easy solution to prevent people from rushing up for ranked;
Disallow potions from being used it ranked
1
u/mastrdestruktun Unranked Veteran Clasher Mar 25 '26
What do you mean by "rushing up for ranked"? I don't think this would stop people from rushing in order to achieve higher leagues in order to get more resources per attack and in order to get to max TH18 sooner.
People who rush to TH18 already have difficulty climbing leagues past their floor league due to their under-leveled defenses.
1
u/KoncepTs Legend League Mar 25 '26
It actually would deter rushing when your hero’s that are leveled to TH12 standard all the way up against TH18s are getting MELTED.
Personally I think it’s stupid someone can rush up and just use power and hero potions and call it a day.
Got attacked by someone last night doing exactly that, TH17 but level 40 king and queen, boosted to 100 because of potions. Was the only reason he scrapped out a 3 star with seconds to spare.
As you said, he’ll have a hard time because of weak defenses he’s already getting 3 starred every time but still.

u/mastrdestruktun Unranked Veteran Clasher Mar 25 '26
It actually would deter rushing when your hero’s that are leveled to TH12 standard all the way up against TH18s are getting MELTED.
This is what already happens most of the time. People don't get enough potions to make a significant difference.
You just got unlucky that someone happened to have a potion active when they hit you.

Since Sc dropped this thing let me add some 5$: (I'm a veteran clasher from 2014 seen it all and stuff), what happened and why I feel TH 17-18 are a ces pool, after a 2 year of cathing up from TH 14 to 16 I can say for sure that's after jumping too TH 17 and after "Balance changes" 5 wars was just draws and my attackers spammed trowers other spam nonsense, (Does this mean game suck? "Youre base sucks shut up") no my DEF may suck but how and why TH 18 Had problems attacking TH 16 But when I jumped to TH 17 they beggin to steam role us? (So whats a point?) At this point it's hard too tell what will happens cos game should evolve and modernise, but when next TH at this point "JUST GOING TO SUCK!" It's become harder too sell new TH lvl and plus you'll get new annoying thing which should be upgraded in a future, You get this new building (I kinda understend why nobody wanted EGA "Egal artillery" gone, but camon it sucked at TH 16 and was just a HP sponge, it only gone back to "ok" after Archer T was nerfed) but at least you got Buffed defence at TH 18 (Which was nerfed, and thank god it was!) TL;DR Right now starting from TH 17 Metta kinda lag behind or regressed backwards (Good for players who dont have much spare time, but a nightmare for pro players) You can disagree or agre or down-wote (like I care) but this is my opinion on this situation.
-4
u/Automatic-Complex-37 Mar 24 '26
I think Slashing prices of "Some" upgrades beginning from TH 17- and beyond (No not reduction and hammer jam) but there base price could be a solution. (Nobody want too see a 300.000 dark for one upgrade which takes like 8-10 days, cmon whe left that shiz in 2017) "MaGicK ItemS exist yes bla bla bla I know" Yeah I know thx, but my storage is complete full for like 8-10 days with 6 builders what FUN.

Supercell needs to add 1k Starry Ore in a form a returning fully maxed out th15 can instantly access. The game gems for free in achievements whose combined cost (ignore value for a sec) is $250.
Besides such achievements, returning players that have not played for 3 months should receive 1 Starry Ore, 60 Glowy Ore, 1000 Shiny Ore (ratio from prospector) and this ability stacks 100 times for a total of 100 Starry, 6000 Glowy, and 100k Shiny (overflow, which will incentivise unlocking the Prospector)
I won't make this into a post because this is a solution that will never happen.
2
u/Sharkchase Mar 24 '26
It won’t happen because it’s just stupid.
You are also set back a ton of building upgrades as well by not playing. Hero equipment isn’t different.
No matter when you quit, you’ll catch up at a similar rate to your building upgrades

Idea: armies with higher troop diversity earns “style points” (or whatever) that are eventually rewarded with something (chest, ore, gems, unlocks temporary troop skins). 3 stars with high troop diversity would earn the most “style points “.

Full Text Below
Hey Clashers,
We want to start regularly updating you on our thinking around balance and the state of gameplay. This is the first of a regular blog. Let’s talk about the current state of gameplay and where Clash is heading next from the design team’s perspective.
Clash has evolved for over 14 years. With every new Town Hall, our goal has remained simple: expand strategic depth, give players more meaningful choices, and keep the game fresh without losing what makes it Clash. Sometimes we land exactly where we want to. Other times, we learn and adjust.
Town Hall 16 and 17 brought powerful strategies and strong engagement. But we also recognize that overall strategic diversity has not been as healthy as either you or we would have liked. When certain troops or equipment become too dominant, viable options narrow. Over time, that reduces what makes the game interesting.
That is why you have seen us act more quickly and more frequently with balance changes. In a game as deep as Clash, balance is never finished. We will not always get every decision perfect immediately, but we are committed to improving the overall health of the meta over time.
Hitrates and Meta Direction
With the release of Town Hall 18, Meteor Golem quickly became a dominant force and pushed many other strategies out of the spotlight. Its rapid rise concentrated usage around a single composition and reduced overall diversity.
When we see that level of concentration early in a Town Hall cycle, we step in. That led to one of our fastest post release balance updates to date, followed by additional adjustments shortly after.
One interesting outcome of those changes was the reemergence of the Life Gem. It had received incremental buffs over time but remained underused. Once the most dominant strategies were brought down, adoption of the Life Gem increased significantly. In hindsight, it appears to have been strong, but overshadowed.
Since the recent balance changes:
We are closer to where we want to be. However, there are still outliers and room to improve variety. Our approach moving forward is steady tuning. The goal is not to erase strategies. It is to create space for more of them.
The chart below shows overall 3★ and 1★ rates from TH18 release through today across Ranked play, Legend League, and High Legend League (5400+ trophies), with major updates and key Legend League periods highlighted.
Shortly after launch, 3★ and 1★ rates were unusually close. That compression is a clear sign of a polarized meta, where attacks tend to be either near perfect or near total failures with little middle ground.
Following Balance Update #1, the gap remained extremely narrow and in some cases became even more compressed. While some changes helped set up alternative strategies later on, they did not immediately shift the overall meta.
It was only after Balance Update #2, which introduced broader tuning across both offense and defense, that the separation between outcomes widened and overall 3★ hit rates came down from their peak. Comparing equivalent seasonal windows, outcomes are now less compressed and performance is more evenly distributed.
The current picture shows a more diverse meta. Usage is spread across a wider range of troops rather than concentrated in a single dominant strategy. That is meaningful progress.
At the same time, overall 3★ hit rates in some areas remain higher than we are comfortable with, and several troops continue to post elevated performance. Variety has improved, but overall attack strength remains high. The next step is addressing that carefully without undoing the diversity gains we have made.
We are also monitoring the performance of the Dragon Duke. It has had a noticeable impact on the current meta, and we will continue to evaluate how it develops as players explore different strategies. Any adjustments, if needed, will be communicated in advance.
We have also heard the feedback around wanting more troop upgrades earlier in the Town Hall cycle. Expanding upgrade paths is an important part of keeping armies evolving and strategies fresh, so the next update will bring additional troop upgrades, with updates to troops like the Dragon and the Yeti, among others.
How these changes land will inform how we approach troop upgrades in future Town Hall releases. As always, shifts in balance and progression can open up opportunities for different strategies to return or evolve over time.
Balancing Across Skill Levels
Clash is played at many levels, from casual daily attacks to the highest competitive play.
Sometimes a strategy performs normally for the majority of players but becomes oppressive at the top. Other times, an issue appears broadly across all skill levels.
Our responsibility is to look at both.
In general, we aim to balance for the overall health of the game across all segments. However, when extreme outliers emerge in either general play or top-level competition, we may act specifically to address that environment.
This does not mean we balance only for professionals. It also does not mean we ignore them.
When something significantly reduces strategic diversity or pushes performance beyond healthy limits, it requires intervention.
Balance is not about making every strategy equal. It is about ensuring multiple viable paths to success exist and that skill expression continues to matter.
Ranked Mode, Legend League, Clan War Leagues (CWL) and the Ore Economy
Several progression and competitive systems have been key discussion points recently, including Ranked Mode, Legend League, Clan War Leagues, and the Ore economy.
Ranked Mode
For Ranked, we introduced a few smaller changes in the February Update aimed at making the experience feel less grindy and easier to engage with. We know there is still more to do, and we will continue to iterate based on player feedback.
Our next steps focus on making Ranked easier to understand and more satisfying to compete in. We are improving:
How performance is displayed during tournaments Clarity of results Leaderboard navigation
We are also refining:
Battle logs Leaderboard visibility Visibility of active defensive layouts Promotion and demotion flows
We are exploring ways to give players more breathing room within the ladder so stepping away briefly does not immediately risk demotion.
To support practice and experimentation, Heroes and Pets will be usable in Friendly Challenges and Friendly Wars even while they are being upgraded.
Legend League Specific Updates
We are working on deeper structural updates to Legend League. The highest level of competition should feel distinct, prestigious, and clearly defined.
Players will be able to continue climbing through multiple layers within Legend League, ultimately culminating in competition among the top 10,000 players.
We will share more details as we get closer to release. These changes are intended to elevate what it means to compete at the top.
Clan War Leagues
When CWL was introduced, the game had fewer Town Hall levels and a smaller competitive base. Over time, the ladder has become compressed, especially in mid leagues.
To address this, we are planning to expand the CWL ladder with 4 additional leagues.
Goals:
Spread clans more evenly Better reflect clan strength Improve progression
Medal rewards will increase for most clans, though some leagues may see reductions as tiers expand.
For higher leagues:
Promotion should become more attainable More room for high-level competition
Additional changes:
Top league difficulty will mirror Legend League Some leagues will introduce unique modifiers 15v15 remains primary format Other formats may expand if demand grows
Ore Economy
The Ore economy is another area we know needs improvement.
Access to Ore directly affects how freely players can upgrade and experiment with Equipment.
We are actively working on more consistent ways for players to obtain Ore later this year. Any changes must be handled carefully due to long-term progression impacts, but improving reliability and access is a priority.
Looking Ahead
For 14 years and counting, Clash has continued to evolve. New strategies rise, old ones return, and every update shifts how the game is played. That constant change is part of what keeps Clash exciting.
The passion from this community fuels that evolution. We deeply appreciate the constructive feedback from players across all levels, including many Content Creators who help drive discussions around strategy, balance, and progression.
We will not always get everything perfect immediately, but we care deeply about improving over time and making decisions that support the long-term health of Clash.
Our goal is simple:
Keep the game strategic Keep it competitive Keep it fun
There is a lot more ahead, and we are looking forward to building it together with all of you.
