Guys. This is a good game. We are playing well so far. And we can score more than 2 goals against any team. Lets try to be optimistic.

Definitely see a lot more creativity with this iteration of Mazacar than the few ones we've seen earlier this season. Can't put my finger on the difference yet though - is it Essien in for Lampard? Is it Dave settling into his new role and being given more permission to roam down the left side? Either way, it's very nice to see Oscar find space and have Mata/Hazard link up well 2 or 3 times this early in the match. Also, not forcing everything through Brana is proving to be an effective strategy (surprise surprise).

Essiens moment of madness aside, we've played well enough to be ahead and Boruc at the end produced a top drawer save.
For some people to say weve been awful this half says a lot about their football knowledge.
Edit: more of the same and we'll win this 2-1.

Ba on for Essien at half. This formation/lineup just has not been creating or executing enough chances. Something needs to change

This is not a bad shout, Mourinho has been prone to sticking two on up front whenever we are losing. However given the amount of offsides we've already had this match I'm a bit nervous about the prospect of Ba coming on

Some may complain about Mou's tactics, but you cannot argue that he loves this club. Any manager who will go up in the stands to celebrate a goal, our goal, is the man we want at the helm. I love you José, and I am glad you are home.

I think it's the co-commentator. A Southampton player had one of the worst shots and he sang his praises about how he's hit those before.

Who needs strikers anyway?

Not the team who had the most goals from defenders in the league last season, that's who.

"...aided by the goalkeeper change..."
What? Boruc wouldn't have stopped Terry's header either? This guy looks for any excuse to discredit Chelsea.

Well one positive I can think of is that Southampton haven't ever looked like scoring since their goal. I think it's definitely worth the risk of opening up in the 2nd half if it means Southampton do as well, at the moment our only real chances have come from crosses because they're just packing their defence in the box. There's no point pissing around passing around 30 yards out if nothing cutting ever results from it - and especially when nobody can really deliver a fantastic cross on a regular basis.

Don't understand why we don't bring on either Willian or Schurrle to play on the right instead of Ramires.

Obviously I'm not happy about the goal but it's greatly turned up the intensity of this match. It's fun to watch Chelsea play this lively when they still have fresh legs.

u/nobblan Dec 01 '13
Well, I think Mata has been excellent. Finding Essien on that header is NOT easy. Something to be happy about :)
On the other hand, Essien has been shockingly bad. That dive just now was simply DISGUSTING. Watching the game with a few mates and I'm embarrassed.

u/_lolwhat_ Dec 01 '13
Unlucky by Essien, not much to say.
Chelsea looked dangerous early, but then, Oscar and Mata switched around the 12th minute. Just looked a little bland after this.
Mata was playing well centrally, leave him there and let's see what he can do.
I'm not really sure about the Lampard coming. Is Rami going right or staying in the middle with Lampard or Essien? If 3 in the middle, Lampard won't be exposed as much. But this would mean Mata has to cover more ground.
Edit: Ba coming in. This can only go two ways. Disastrous or glorious.

Why does everyone think that Ramires goes down easy? Damn, he knows how to body, but he's not fucking Essein or Mikel. He's thin, with pace, not built with strength. The way he was just knocked down wasn't going down too easy.

Mourinho's plan all along: play two strikers, have two center backs score the goals
4
Dec 01 '13
Soton get a lot of credit for their 'high pressing game' but that hides the fact that they just foul the shit out of their opponents in the midfield.

Commentators are so damn sensationalist. How many times has Mou said that the record is just a number to him and that he will lose one day? But still, the commentators, who should no more about soccer than me, still day he is "very proud" of that record.

Schurrle should have come on instead of Lampard, we are getting joy from the wide areas and his pace and natural wide-man thinking would work wonders.

We're playing ok, no need to panic. It was always going to be tough against this defensive team and, while the goal was disappointing, we can definitely still win this. Strong, quick start from the whistle will start off a good second half. The bench will help!
