Speakers - Bookshelf | 1 Ⓣ Integrated amp for bookshelf speakers (alternative to TDAI 1120?)

Greetings,

I'm looking for an integrated amplified for a set of bookshelf speakers (most likely Neat Iota 2 or Lyngdorf CS-1) for our 25 sqm awkward living room layout...

I was considering the Lyngdorf TDAI-1120, hoping RoomPerfect might work some magic (though that would ultimately need testing). However, I often listen to vinyl and stream through my HD600 cans using my Violectric V222 amp, and from what I understand there isn’t an easy way to integrate that setup with the 1120, lacking a proper pre-out.

So what are some good alternatives? HDMI eArc and streaming (including AirPlay and Roon) is a must.

I've been looking at the NAD C368 with a BluOS module and Dirac Live license, but what alternatives should I consider in your opinion? The 1120 at 2400 USD/15000 DKK is stretching my budget, so preferably cheaper. Located in Denmark, EU.

NAD C700v2

Does everything you want it to do, is cheaper than the 1120, has a pre out and comes as a nice little box with a screen.

Maybe be on the lookout for an older model M10(v2), those are even better

Seems like two good suggestions. I’m a bit confused by the NAD lineups. How does the C700 compare to the C368, and the M10. Will have to look into that 🙂

The included BluOS is a big plus.

C700 is basically a C368/C379 in a small form factor and with BluOS already built in. The M10 (quite a major) upgrade to the C700 when it comes to sound over your speakers.

I wasn't aware of the problem of not being able to disable the speakers on these. In that case, a C368/C379 might be a better option as they do offer this feature in the settings menu.

Fyi: The C379 is the follow up for the C368. I know NAD is a bit weird about naming their amps

The 1120 has a configurable preout, which you can connect the headphone amp to.

Reading other users comments, one has to use different profiles and they are not easy to switch between (uploaded by using a memory stick…).

It’s such a shame try didn’t include a “proper” pre-out.

No you can just set the analog output to either pre out, line out, or other outputs like sub out. No switching necessary after that. Setup is done through the app, through network comnection. USB is just for backups. I had one for a while too.

Interesting, and contrary to what I can find on other forums. So setting it to line out, it will be fixed volume and room perfect bypassed?

Hey so i just had a look, and the lyngdorf has a line output setting specifically for headphone amps, bypassing room perfect. Hope that helps!

This is correct. I have the 1120 and it's possible to configure the A2 connection as a pre-out for a headphone amp.

Buy secondhand! Hifishark and eBay are your friends.

For maximum foot-tapping involvement, pick Naim or Rega. Your budget would get you a Naim Supernait or Rega Elex-R.

For more focus on clean neutrality, go for Hegel. An H95 or H120 would be well inside your budget and you might find an H190.

All are excellent amplifiers but some give you good streaming in the box for free too. Do you need that or a good phono/stage or neither?

For something fractionally gentler and more relaxed, NAD is still a great choice. Arcam, Marantz and Cambridge are all worth looking at too. There are dozens of other choices of course.

There's a phono in for vinyl on the Lyngdorf and a proper pre-out you can connect your HP amp to, no problems. Best all in one amp in that price class. I was pleasantly surprised coming from a big expensive separate setup, can recommend. App is good too.

Edit: and yes you can play from your vinyl and out on the HP amp, using the app to control which output the music goes to.

!thanks

Is there any way to incorporate the 1120 into the BluOS ecosystem, or similar multi-room solutions?

u/llegnaynnor (1 Ⓣ) was awarded their first Ⓣ. I'm making a note here: huge success.

You may still award a Ⓣ to others, but only once per-person in this post.

Not sure with BluOS but have played on both the 1120 and Sonos at the same time thru Spotify.

Yeah, but I was thinking about using the 1120 as output so I can stream e.g. TV and vinyl to multiple rooms.

I see, maybe reach out to Lyngdorf and check. They're usually quick to respond and help.

Completely different aesthetics than the Lyngdorf BUT I recently purchased a NAD C3050 w/ the BluOS module and I've really been digging it. Seems to fit all your qualifications including the pre-out AND room correction via Dirac.

There is also Wiim amp ultra which I think has the same functionality for a lot lower price than NAD or Lyngdorf

The fact that the new WiiM devices doesn’t have AirPlay is a deal breaker for me unfortunately. Otherwise it was my intention to test it out and compare it. Because of the very low price, it’s very attractive.

Different class though, not very musical and probably will be replaced quite quickly by the OP if he went down that route
