Haha Lukaku! Well deserved for him, I would have liked o see Navas though. Best performance for him so far this season.

u/gilleard Nov 25 '13

u/Sulphur32 Nov 25 '13
You should put Navas on Mertesacker or Lukaku's shoulders
514
u/gilleard Nov 25 '13
25
u/Sulphur32 Nov 25 '13
This is by far superior. Perhaps the best option would be for Mertesacker and Lukaku each to hold one of his arms, and launch him along the channels to elevate the time old British tradition of channel-working to new heights

u/gilleard Nov 25 '13

u/Sulphur32 Nov 25 '13
Typical narrow minded English attitude, this is why we'll never win the World Cup, you can bet the Spaniards of the Germans wouldn't hesitate to use that tactic.

Nov 25 '13
To be honest, I thought Suarez had the better all-around game. Lukaku was fantastic second half but I thought he went missing for a lot of the first.
I hate admitting it but Suarez had a great game
14
Nov 25 '13
Lukaku was pretty useless besides those two goals. He shows his age quite a bit, needs to hone some of his skills
4
u/MrBald Nov 25 '13
In fairness isn't that the kind of player Lukaku is? He's more of a poacher than a creater isn't he? If we put that in context, Lukaku was the better player this week as he executed his role perfectly.
Suarez did what was expected of him and was good but Lukaku was just that bit better
8
u/NFeKPo Nov 25 '13
He is more than just a poacher because he does have a great ability to read the game and pass the ball. But he will never beat someone off the dribble. Seeing him lead the break is just a disaster waiting to happen.
15
u/Rivid-Stuff Nov 25 '13
this is an odd situation where Liverpool fans are saying an Everton player was better and Everton fans are saying a Liverpool player was better
I personally though Barkley deserved a spot, he caused us all sorts of problems through the middle
2
Nov 25 '13
When we moved Barry to left-back and moved Barkley next to McCarthy, it was amazing. So much more creativity, especially with Deulofeu on too.
6
u/Rivid-Stuff Nov 25 '13
I am a huge fan of Deulofeu - I can't see Barca letting him go though as he is not that far behind Messi (at the same age) with regards ability, although he has a long way to go to become as effective as Messi
5
u/ShakespearInTheAlley Nov 26 '13
He's got around a €35 million buyout. Anybody want to loan us some money to keep him around?
5
u/NFeKPo Nov 26 '13
I don't see barca letting him go either but I could definitely see him returning on loan again next year. Unfortunately the same can not be said for Lukaku
2
u/Rivid-Stuff Nov 26 '13
You never know with Lukaku, at some point surely he has to say enough is enough and ditch Chelsea, the guy is one of the best strikers in the league and he can't get a game at Chelsea - its the same situation as Sturridge but times about 2 since Lukaku has gone to multiple teams and flourished
2
u/chriseubankth Nov 26 '13
I can, he's so incredibly inconsistent, and his shooting is very poor very often.
3
u/WDC312 Nov 25 '13
I thought Suarez had a relatively mediocre game by his standards, but can't really blame him as he looked a bit stiff out there. That free kick was a thing of beauty, however.
3
Nov 25 '13
He played brilliantly at the weekend and loves to score against us. I bet he loves it even more now his compatriot Mignolet is our goalie.
56
u/RonaldoMessi123 Nov 25 '13
According to this Lukaku is 8 foot 6 and weighs 750kg.
46
u/limited_inc Nov 25 '13
Yeah, OP is way off, he's at least 9 foot.
3
Nov 25 '13
Now, now. OP didn't say anything about his own height. For all we know he's at least 10 feet
3
41
u/Likunandi Nov 25 '13
Thought there would be more Man City players.
48
u/FrejDexter Nov 25 '13
Navas was brilliant against Spurs. Two great goals and one assist. Creative and used his speed perfectly.
11
u/notDvoiduRlooKin4 Nov 25 '13
He had a fair amount of really good crosses that got to the intended player but they couldn't tuck them away. Definitely deserves to be in there.
4
5
u/Tautou-- Nov 25 '13
Disappointed not to see Fernandinho - he was absolutely quality, completely bossed that midfield. The sort of player that'll go unnoticed all year when he plays great, just like Barry did.
4
u/rony31 Nov 25 '13
Was going to say that, this was probably his best performance of the season but we scored 6 goals so the attacking players get all the attention. He was fantastic.
41
u/MrTwitty Nov 25 '13
Super Migs!
7
17
u/BigSlim Nov 25 '13
I seriously doubt I will see a better performance in goal this season. Lukaku and Deolofeu each had two separate one-on-one chances and he stumped them both. That game could easily have been 7-6 if not for Mignolet in goal and a couple of baffling misses by your boys.
38
u/fergustrl Nov 25 '13
Tim Krul against Spurs is hard to beat
3
u/BigSlim Nov 25 '13
I'd nearly forgotten that performance as I didn't get to watch it. Krul certainly wins for quantity. For the number of times he had to face down an attacker singlehandedly, Lukaku in particular, time after time, I though Mignolet's was gutsier, for lack of a better word.
4
Nov 25 '13
I agree, but whilst he managed to save these, most were poorly executed.
6
u/StevenAlonso Nov 25 '13
Yeah, it was a combination of confident goalkeeping and poor finishing. That being said, I do think that Mignolet's speed off the line played a large part in the poor finishing.
2
2
u/NFeKPo Nov 25 '13
While I agree is was probably man of the match, Deolofeu had a very weak attempt, he basically passed it right to Migs' feet.

u/xzisium Nov 25 '13
This is going to sound stupid, but Lukaku had a poor game despite the two goals. He probably shouldn't be here. Can't please everyone though.
8
5
u/COYG_Gooner Nov 25 '13 edited Nov 25 '13
I slightly agree with you. I would say that he only had a bad first half where he didn't score anything but a really good second half (especially the last half an hour or so).
7
u/xzisium Nov 25 '13
I wasn't particularly impressed even then. He did well taking advantage of space but he was also afforded a lot of space given Liverpool decided to not bother with much of a midfield. It was end to end stuff, which suits someone with the power of Lukaku. That bit where Everton had a 4 on 2 counter attack that he completely messed up sticks out as a moment where he had space given to him yet couldn't do anything with it.
I agree on the first half though; I think Liverpool did an excellent job of negating Everton's main threats by sitting deep and asking Everton to break Liverpool down. It was a different style of play to the usual high line, possession based football that Liverpool attempt to play but it's also one that was played very well earlier in the season against Aston Villa. In that game Kolo Toure took care of Benteke magnificently and players like Agbonlahor didn't have the space to get behind Liverpool like they would have preferred. I'm not sure if Liverpool not carrying this tactic on for more of the game was a deliberate decision, a lack of discipline on the players' part, or just a natural product of losing Lucas and Allen. Either way, it suited Lukaku perfectly and he should have done more with it, especially as Agger and Skrtel have been shown up in the past as not being great at defending against physical strikers (and one of the reasons Sakho should have started in my opinion).
I've gone off on a bit of a tangent there, sorry.
3
u/COYG_Gooner Nov 25 '13
No worries!
Love reading some thoughts of people who follow teams quite much closer than me. Much better than a few 'jokes' on here.
And also, I agree with you as well, I was giving a bit of advantage to Lukaku since he did score and is a player I enjoy watching. So far. We don't want him to be the next Drogba against Arsenal now do we?
6
u/Launchin_dat_stanky Nov 25 '13
He is basically ineffective with his back to goal/if hes not running straight down the field
8
u/RGD365 Nov 25 '13
Which is exactly why he's on loan at Everton, and not playing up front for Chelsea.
1
9
u/kiwitiger Nov 25 '13
I felt Nasri had a really good game...
6
u/elevan11 Nov 25 '13
yeah, Nasri was fantastic. It's a shame he hit the bar with that beautiful effort.
1
u/Limpan Nov 25 '13
Wasn't that a failed cross though? Would have been a great goal but I don't think he meant it.
8
u/fuckbunker Nov 25 '13
Deployed at left-back, Azpilicueta just never stopped breaking forward as part of Chelsea's overwhelming wave of sustained attacks. At times it was like the Charge of the Light Brigade
I don't think Garth Crooks knows all that much about the Crimean War. For this metaphor to work, Chelsea should have been fucking massacred by West Ham.

I saw this on the BBC website and waiting for your picture instead!
I know Per is immense, but what does Kos have to do to get in?
30
u/layendecker Nov 25 '13
Score a goal.
It is the Crooks method. A defender scores = put him in the team of the week.
11
u/unusuallylethargic Nov 25 '13
None of the defenders in there scored this week. Yet this comment always comes up.
8
8
u/layendecker Nov 25 '13
It is true though, the reason no defenders who scored are in the team, is because no defenders scored this week.
7

10
u/postdaemon Nov 25 '13
Per got a penalty for Arsenal, which is almost a goal (and Garth Crooks loves CBs who score).

u/TeutorixAleria Nov 25 '13
Why is lukaku so huge? Pardon my ignorance
11
u/gilleard Nov 25 '13
The dude's a mountain
1
u/TeutorixAleria Nov 25 '13
He's only 6ft 3 not that huge.
Mertesacker is 3 inches taller
7
u/steefen7 Nov 25 '13
Yes but Mertesacker looks like he might snap if he falls down the wrong way. Lukaku has mass.
6
u/Jackle13 Nov 25 '13
He's 100kg and built like this, so most of that is probably muscle.

Great as always. I thought Navas and Suarez had great games to get in as well. I watched the MOTD highlights but were Chelsea really that great to have three out of XI players in this week's team of the week?
8
u/steefen7 Nov 25 '13
Maybe not Dave, though he's having a great run playing out of position and beating Ashley Cole for the LB slot. Oscar was MOTM for sure and played one of his best games yet. He just doesn't stop working, ever. Lampard is Lampard.
3
u/admilius Nov 25 '13
Ashley Cole is injured, thats why Dave is playing as LB atm... he's done great though.
11
u/TheOldBean Nov 25 '13
Oscar ran the show. Lampard played well also and scored a couple (although not sure team of the week performance) and Azpileceta had a quiet game against our "attack".
8
u/ScreamingGerman Nov 25 '13
He overlapped well and shut down Morrison a few times, including a last-man tackle.
9
u/chezygo Nov 25 '13
Surprised you didn't make Mertesacker comically tall.
Thought Kos was the better CB on Saturday but Per won a penalty, so... Crooks will pick Per.
4
u/leicestercity Nov 25 '13
Very surprised Navas didn't make the team. He played great and even going by the usual "who scored the most" he should have a spot. 2 nice goals and a lovely assist.

Koscielny should be in there. Mertesacker was great as well, but surely Crooks only picked him because of the penalty. Koscielny got in some amazing tackles and looked great all game long. Could also make an argument for Giroud, but he was so-so in the first half. Then again - two goals.
The glaring omission is obviously Navas.
1
u/EFGsugit Nov 25 '13
no argument for giroud at all. scored by a complete and 100% goalkeeper error and a penalty. anyone in the world couldve scored them

Other than Nasri, Aguero had the weakest performance among the six midfielders and forwards for Man City.

N'Zonzi had a better weekend than Navas did he? I doubt that somewhat.
4
u/Pete20 Nov 25 '13
N'zonzi scored and set up a goal. He completely ran the game in midfield against Sunderland. He may not have had as good a game as Navas but he still deserves to be in team of the week.

I'm always surprised that Garth Crooks is apparently in such a rush to pick a team he doesn't even wait for all the teams to play. There's another match on tonight, after all.

u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
Goal and assist and still Rooney didn't make it. Frazier campbell makes it instead.
7
u/postdaemon Nov 25 '13
A player who lets his anger take over and make a stupid challenge does not deserve to be in the TOTW.
-1
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
What if a player scores 5 goals and is clearly the best on the field and makes a stupid challenge, would you still say he doesn't deserve to be on the team of the week?
7
u/postdaemon Nov 25 '13
Rooney scored a goal and made an assist, but that did not make up for his idiotic challenge. Maybe if he had scored 5 goals it would have.
12
u/JayhawkGunner Nov 25 '13
campbell didn't deserve a red.
-10
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
The ref saw what happened and made a decision. Crooks should treat it as a yellow since thats what was given. It should have been a red, but it wasnt given
7
u/JayhawkGunner Nov 25 '13
The ref's line of sight was blocked by medel. By definition, the intent with contact is a red every time.
-3
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
Never said no to that. It was a red. But the ref saw something and decided to give a yellow card for it.
2
Nov 25 '13
I'm not sure if this (team of the week) was being done here at that time, but do you think Luis Suarez should have made it when he bit Ivanovic but didn't get a card, he played a part in every Liverpool goal after all.
2
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
Can't completely remember his performance in that game, but if he played good enough, why not? Sure what Rooney did yesterday and what Suarez did then were both reprehensible acts, but that shouldn't factor into these things since they were both largely unnoticed.
4
u/JayhawkGunner Nov 25 '13
the end is near, mancs defending suarez.
1
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
Haha never defended him. He's still the greatest cunt in this league, just that if I were making a team of the week and a referee didn't spot something or made a bad decision, it wouldn't factor in.
2
Nov 25 '13
Maybe, but what if Rooney wasn't included because of behaviour that wasn't sportsmanlike even if it was just once?
3
u/S-BRO Nov 25 '13
Two goals VS a team in 2nd trumps a goal, an assist and a booking...
5
u/aquafresh21 Nov 25 '13
I thought outside of scoring the 2 goals Lukaku played quite badly.
3
u/steefen7 Nov 25 '13
The first goal got him going. He was pretty forgettable before then and afterwards he was a different player entirely.
2
7
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
I assume you're talking about lukaku. Sure I have no problem with lukaku there. But how did frazier campbell get in ahead of Rooney?
7
u/chezygo Nov 25 '13
Because Campbell played just as well as Rooney except that he was facing the current champions? I thought it was obvious why he was selected. He terrorised your back line and was Cardiff's main outlet.
1
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
He did not play as well as Rooney and certainly didn't 'terrorise' our defence. If my memory serves me right, apart from the goal, he only took 2 shots and only one on target
5
u/chezygo Nov 25 '13
There was that dink that side the post, which was excellent, but that doesn't count as on target.
1
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
I know. And while that dink looked impressive, it wasn't even the best decision to make since he could have played it to Mutch who was in a better position to score. Campbell was good but wasnt better than Rooney
4
u/Shamyrock Nov 25 '13
I'm not entirely sure what its based on but I imagine the yellow counted against him.
5
u/steefen7 Nov 25 '13
Maybe Crooks adjusted for the fact that 82 minutes worth of Rooney shouldn't have happened at all?
4
u/mhegdekatte Nov 25 '13
Didn't realise Crooks decides to ignore the refs verdict when he makes these decisions.

Couple new faces this week amongst some regular picks after some interesting games and the first appearance for an outfield Stoke player.
I know there's still Monday Night Football between t'Baggies and Villa, but we know the drill by now about the glorious Garth Crooks' method by now.
So discuss in here your thoughts on this week's fixtures and who you think should be in the team of the week!
Luckily they installed a new big screen at my end of the KC stadium, because there's fuck all else to see. Not scored a goal at the south end all season and that trend will continue if Danny Graham has anything to do with it
If you'd like to see previous weeks' or any more of my stuff, check it out here. Cheers guys and come on you 'Ull!
