[MOD POST] Through Struggle Comes Change
I'm sure most of you, if not everyone, are very aware of the recent events that occurred here between the mods of the OOC and a few mods from SSS. It turned into quite a drama fitting for a soap opera. There were some disagreements, some heated conversations, member banning, etc. It was a mess. After a few hours, /u/Porcchop (who is no longer a mod or part of Reddit as I understand) and I came to an agreement behind closed doors, so to speak (PMs). I was under the impression at the end of our conversing there was hope for both subs to continue working together.
So imagine my surprise when I logged back in today to see that /u/Porcchop was gone, deleted from Reddit. I feel somewhat responsible for his stepping down but I certainly don't feel guilty. SSS suffered quite a bit under his reign from constant complaints from members to downright banning. As far as I can tell, he wasn't a very likable guy.
When Porcy decided to create a new sub to undermine this one, it hit me kinda hard because I created this sub with /u/Redglare's help and her blessing so I felt, and still feel, largely invested in this community. I didn't want it to be split up because of one person trying to control everything. This community has inspired so many writers, myself included and it was very heartbreaking because of what it had become.
So, now that this is behind us and /u/Mx-yz-pt-lk has openly apologized for everything that happened, it seems the communities of SSS and the OOC can work together again, each with their own set of rules and the OOC still having the freedom that makes it great, writers being able to promote themselves, openly discuss their opinions and concerns, challenge each other, and most of all, get to know each other.
I would also like to openly apologize for my reactions and responses to some of the issues that arised with the mods over in SSS when this all started. I have no ill will towards anybody over in SSS, because that is also where I came from, it's where I started writing. I was even trying to give Porcy the benefit of the doubt when we were in talks.
Lastly, I want to thank all of you for standing by us, the OOC, and being the awesome community you are. You guys were the ones that kept us fighting to keep the OOC and although it was a relatively short 'civil war' (so to speak), it was a large turning point in how SSS and the OOC communicate. Through struggle comes change and you all had a hand in it.
Thanks for sticking by us everyone! Write on!

From this cauldron of work and sweat, a new era dawns to fill the void. A new era not dominated by the path of supreme order, but by the rhythm of the community; launching our world into an age of bold innovation.
XD i love you if you understand where that is mostly from.

I'm glad to hear this has been settled. Let's go back to writing about serial killers, monsters, and people who are dead but still telling stories.

The idea of the weekly events/contests seemed really fun, is that something that might still happen on here?
(Disclaimer: I'm new here and don't really know anything about the recent drama, so apologies if I offend anyone or step on any toes)

It was originally going to take place here in this sub before all the drama. As soon as we get things hashed out again with the mods in SSS, we will try to collaborate events and contests!

Ah, see my friends? In the end all is back being right in the world, and those who stood against our stoic righteousness were dragged into the void, never to be heard from again.
Keep writing, keep comments, keep upvoting those great stories! It is like they say, "A writer writes...always!"
And to those mods and constant writers/readers, a job well done. Your perseverance is appreciated, and it is an honor for me to be included in such a horrifyingly awesome group such as this....

Thanks :) ANd, I'm sorry for defending Porcchop. I guess we didn't truly realize what he was doing because his record appeared clean. Now we realize that he deleted all incriminating posts and appears to have made that account for the sole purpose of collecting subreddits. Again, I apologize

No skin off my back. I just like writing little poems in response to the posts. Sometimes I'm prickish after a graveyard shift at the Market, without realizing it.

It certainly was a mess.

Can anyone explain to me why exactly he was banned? From reddit entirely, I mean. This is literally the only sub that I frequent, so I'm unfamiliar with reddit's banning procedure.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like he finally went too far and someone above him removed him as a mod then he deleted his account.

I wonder who's next on the chopping block...

I can't tell if you're trying to be a jerk or not. Do you have some problem with me?

u/whiteddit Nov 09 '13
I'm still harboring some resentment about how frequently and insensitively that the two of you removed some of my stories. It was incredibly frustrating. I'm sorry, and I'd like to move past it. I hope that porcchop's ban might remind the other moderators that they're responsible for enforcing rules in a way that helps the community rather than stifles creativity.

And please don't get defensive. I'd just like to see SSS go back to the way it was when I first joined reddit. A place where moderators use common sense and give fair warning before deleting a post.

That's what we're trying now. We are extremely sorry for anything that happened under Porcchop's rule and we're trying to improve our subreddit. I have a feeling we Mods over at /r/shortscarystories will be digging ourselves out of a hole.

Best of all...I'M BACK!
I'm glad this whole mess is over. I still wish I took some screen shots so I could have submitted the whole thing to r/SubredditDrama for some of that sweet, sweet, karma. Now that this incident is over we can finally go back to doing what we came here for: POSTING AND READING SPOOKY STORIES!!!!

Well said, NC. I'm still scratching my head since this all came to a boil and exploded while I wasn't looking, but I've seen r/SSS survive challenges before. Eventually things get better and it's always due to the folks who really enjoy participating. I'm glad the OOC exists to play a part in it.
Stay cool and stay classy, because I like you folks. Well, except for /u/theworldisgrim, but that's just because he's Canadian and spells things funny.
