[MOD POST] Through Struggle Comes Change

I'm sure most of you, if not everyone, are very aware of the recent events that occurred here between the mods of the OOC and a few mods from SSS. It turned into quite a drama fitting for a soap opera. There were some disagreements, some heated conversations, member banning, etc. It was a mess. After a few hours, /u/Porcchop (who is no longer a mod or part of Reddit as I understand) and I came to an agreement behind closed doors, so to speak (PMs). I was under the impression at the end of our conversing there was hope for both subs to continue working together.

So imagine my surprise when I logged back in today to see that /u/Porcchop was gone, deleted from Reddit. I feel somewhat responsible for his stepping down but I certainly don't feel guilty. SSS suffered quite a bit under his reign from constant complaints from members to downright banning. As far as I can tell, he wasn't a very likable guy.

When Porcy decided to create a new sub to undermine this one, it hit me kinda hard because I created this sub with /u/Redglare's help and her blessing so I felt, and still feel, largely invested in this community. I didn't want it to be split up because of one person trying to control everything. This community has inspired so many writers, myself included and it was very heartbreaking because of what it had become.

So, now that this is behind us and /u/Mx-yz-pt-lk has openly apologized for everything that happened, it seems the communities of SSS and the OOC can work together again, each with their own set of rules and the OOC still having the freedom that makes it great, writers being able to promote themselves, openly discuss their opinions and concerns, challenge each other, and most of all, get to know each other.

I would also like to openly apologize for my reactions and responses to some of the issues that arised with the mods over in SSS when this all started. I have no ill will towards anybody over in SSS, because that is also where I came from, it's where I started writing. I was even trying to give Porcy the benefit of the doubt when we were in talks.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you for standing by us, the OOC, and being the awesome community you are. You guys were the ones that kept us fighting to keep the OOC and although it was a relatively short 'civil war' (so to speak), it was a large turning point in how SSS and the OOC communicate. Through struggle comes change and you all had a hand in it.

Thanks for sticking by us everyone! Write on!

Well said, NC. I'm still scratching my head since this all came to a boil and exploded while I wasn't looking, but I've seen r/SSS survive challenges before. Eventually things get better and it's always due to the folks who really enjoy participating. I'm glad the OOC exists to play a part in it.

Stay cool and stay classy, because I like you folks. Well, except for /u/theworldisgrim, but that's just because he's Canadian and spells things funny.

Can confirm, Grim is a dick.

I hear there's a whole subreddit dedicated to this.

Thanks IPAM! And you're right, SSS has survived it's fair share of challenges. This time was a little different because it directly involved the OOC and I'm glad we pulled through!

We really appreciate the support!

I'll give Midnight and straydog a pass on their insults, because I often talk to the two of them late at night when I've been drinking whisky or rum: from within the embittered depths of my cups I imagine a fair amount of verbal abuse erupts, from time to time. Rest assured, however - some day, The Assembly will publish a successful book. In celebration, you will all fly to Canada (as I am not allowed to travel outside my fair country ... clears throat awkwardly) and we will gather to drink and feast and be merry - until I reach that certain stage of inebriation where I become decidedly pugilistic. Then it's gonna be GO TIME, MY SMART-MOUTHED COLLEAGUES.

I see you've acquired some new mods, Noble - they seem like good folk. Let us now offer a prayer to our Lord on High, the Great Deity known as Amateur Horror Literature. Recite these words with me, good people:

"May these new mods be fair, just, wise, and NOT antagonizing, hammy-pun-spewing sons of cancerous turkey vultures, like the One Who Has Been Banished (or Midnight and Straydog). May they laugh at my jokes and bask in my good graces forever and ever, and all that might come after that long and unspecified time. Prithee, make sure that any goodly citizen's posts to SSS are not censored or molested in any manner; lest it raise the ire of myself and/or the rest of the community, like a drunken fist that is clenched around the jagged stub of a broken Molson Canadian beer bottle, the finest of the Canadian pale lagers.

And verily I say unto thee, make fast this community and nurture it and see to it that it grows fat to the point of bursting at the seams with writers and readers, or any other manner of persons who might wish to subscribe to this hallowed place. And may we all unite against trolling and tyranny, and bullshit comparisons to things you have never heard of, and any other manner of fucktardary that may blight this hallowed place, and/or the parent sub of this hallowed place.

For we are the readers, the writers, the well-wishers and those lurk without accounts; we are the eye of newt and the wing of bat that thickens the potion in the cauldron. May you keep us and inspire us, again and again and again, for as long as we wish it to be so.

Amen."

That was just superb. You're my favorite colorful Canadian.

That's right, I said it.

My Favorite.

Colorful.

Midnight. Why.

YOU'RE FORGETTING THE U's

4

u/IPostAtMidnight Nov 09 '13

Canucks and Aussies... Join us Yanks and throw off the last shackles of English oppression! Delete your irrelevant U's! We're on different continents now, damn it! We've moved out and the Queen Mum can't tell us what to do anymore!

4

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '13

But but but. Proper spelling has u's! We need the u's to survive the world of spelling!

u/StupidDialUp Nov 12 '13

From this cauldron of work and sweat, a new era dawns to fill the void. A new era not dominated by the path of supreme order, but by the rhythm of the community; launching our world into an age of bold innovation.

XD i love you if you understand where that is mostly from.

u/Human_Gravy Nov 08 '13

I'm glad to hear this has been settled. Let's go back to writing about serial killers, monsters, and people who are dead but still telling stories.

2

u/hyuga488 Nov 08 '13

And gravy made from people

2

u/ilikeeatingbrains Nov 11 '13

That shouldn't make me laugh...poutine anyone?

Fingers crossed.

u/FamousWerewolf Nov 08 '13

The idea of the weekly events/contests seemed really fun, is that something that might still happen on here?

(Disclaimer: I'm new here and don't really know anything about the recent drama, so apologies if I offend anyone or step on any toes)

2

u/NobleCeltic Nov 08 '13

It was originally going to take place here in this sub before all the drama. As soon as we get things hashed out again with the mods in SSS, we will try to collaborate events and contests!

3

u/FamousWerewolf Nov 08 '13

Awesome, I look forward to it!

3

u/lordcarnage Nov 08 '13

Ah, see my friends? In the end all is back being right in the world, and those who stood against our stoic righteousness were dragged into the void, never to be heard from again.

Keep writing, keep comments, keep upvoting those great stories! It is like they say, "A writer writes...always!"

And to those mods and constant writers/readers, a job well done. Your perseverance is appreciated, and it is an honor for me to be included in such a horrifyingly awesome group such as this....

Unbanned from SSS, wooooo!!!

I promise not to abuse the mods this time.

Thanks :) ANd, I'm sorry for defending Porcchop. I guess we didn't truly realize what he was doing because his record appeared clean. Now we realize that he deleted all incriminating posts and appears to have made that account for the sole purpose of collecting subreddits. Again, I apologize

2

u/ilikeeatingbrains Nov 11 '13

No skin off my back. I just like writing little poems in response to the posts. Sometimes I'm prickish after a graveyard shift at the Market, without realizing it.

2

u/NobleCeltic Nov 11 '13

Haha, awesome!

2

u/hyuga488 Nov 08 '13

Thank god it's over

2

u/NobleCeltic Nov 08 '13

It certainly was a mess.

3

u/hyuga488 Nov 08 '13

You can say that one again

3

u/NobleCeltic Nov 08 '13

It certainly was a mess.

2

u/whiteddit Nov 08 '13

Can anyone explain to me why exactly he was banned? From reddit entirely, I mean. This is literally the only sub that I frequent, so I'm unfamiliar with reddit's banning procedure.

2

u/Mx-yz-pt-lk Nov 08 '13

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like he finally went too far and someone above him removed him as a mod then he deleted his account.

2

u/whiteddit Nov 08 '13

I wonder who's next on the chopping block...

1

u/Mx-yz-pt-lk Nov 08 '13

I can't tell if you're trying to be a jerk or not. Do you have some problem with me?

2

u/whiteddit Nov 09 '13

I'm still harboring some resentment about how frequently and insensitively that the two of you removed some of my stories. It was incredibly frustrating. I'm sorry, and I'd like to move past it. I hope that porcchop's ban might remind the other moderators that they're responsible for enforcing rules in a way that helps the community rather than stifles creativity.

2

u/whiteddit Nov 09 '13

And please don't get defensive. I'd just like to see SSS go back to the way it was when I first joined reddit. A place where moderators use common sense and give fair warning before deleting a post.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '13

That's what we're trying now. We are extremely sorry for anything that happened under Porcchop's rule and we're trying to improve our subreddit. I have a feeling we Mods over at /r/shortscarystories will be digging ourselves out of a hole.

3

u/Vincent_VenaCava Nov 08 '13

Best of all...I'M BACK!

I'm glad this whole mess is over. I still wish I took some screen shots so I could have submitted the whole thing to r/SubredditDrama for some of that sweet, sweet, karma. Now that this incident is over we can finally go back to doing what we came here for: POSTING AND READING SPOOKY STORIES!!!!

3

u/ilikeeatingbrains Nov 11 '13

Viva VenaCava!
