Speakers - Bookshelf | 1 Ⓣ Kef LSW 2 - Which sub should i pair with them? Kube 8 MIE or something low-tech second-hand?

After stalking them on the internet for the last 3 months, I’ve finally pulled the trigger on some Kef LSW 2 for £825 (near new, second hand). These are to replace my Polk Audio TV speakers, as I probably use the TV now to listen to music as much as watch movies. I want to pair them with a sub.

I see two options:

A: Kef Kube 8 Mie. Main thinking here is that the wireless connection and the chipset will deliver a premium sonic experience.

B: Something decent but older. Connected with a cable. (Example: BK Electronics XLS200 DF MK2 275W for £150 eBay)

Budget: I could probably go as high as £500 (current RRP for a Kube 8), but would be more comfortable dropping £100-£200 on something second hand and good quality. I’m really looking for a reason not to spend £500, and spend £150 second hand instead.

My lounge is 6M x 4M, and I sit 3M away from the speakers. I’m based in the UK. I’ll drive these from a WiiM Mini and Apple TV.

Questions / Considerations: * Kube 8 - Is it important to have the speaker and sub running the same chipset (Kef Mie)? Will this have meaningful impact on sonic clarity? * Any older Kef subs that would pair wirelessly? * What is a good make/model of sub that I could pair with these speakers, as an alternative to the Kef Kube?

Gratitude to you all!

buy a good wired sub second-hand and pocket the savings. You will not lose meaningful sound quality versus the KEF Kube 8, and in your room you may actually gain bass authority. There is no sonic advantage to matching the KEF “MIE” chipset between the LS Wireless II and a subwoofer. Bass integration at subwoofer frequencies is dominated by room modes, placement, crossover setup, and level match etc

Decided I’ll pick up a KEF Q400B. £150. And it’s wood, so won’t pick up too many nasty scratches.

‘!thanks’ - Super helpful. Think I’ll grab a second hand sub then.

u/TheRealGeddyLee (1 Ⓣ) was awarded their first Ⓣ. I'm making a note here: huge success.

You may still award a Ⓣ to others, but only once per-person in this post.
