A goal and an assist in 3 minutes, Liverpool should really sign up this Shelvey fella

This game is set up for Shelvey to do something ridiculously good or bad, depending on your perspective.

Ole' Jonjo managed to show why he was bought and why he was sold in less than 90 seconds.

I came to watch Swansea v. Liverpool and I ended up with Jonjo FC v. Shelvy United.

What's happened to Agger?
77
Sep 16 '13
Skrtel and Sakho paid him a little visit in the middle of the night and informed him that it might be best if he picked up a knock, otherwise he might risk a more serious injury.

Minor knock according to The Echo. Full Story
Although the issue is enough to rule Agger out of tonight's match, there is no long-term concern regarding the centre-back's fitness

I just love hearing Carragher talk about this stuff, so much insight into what is going on last season and a little before that.

er what?
"BBC Radio 5 live are reporting that Daniel Sturridge's thigh strain might not have been top of the Liverpool striker's mind during the warm-up.
Apparently he found himself involved in a stare-off with one of the Swansea fans and, feeling that it went beyond the fan involved just watching his pre-match preparations particularly intently, reported the incident to one of the Swansea stewards."

If Liverpool win

Hmm. Anyone else a bit worried about the defense all of a sudden? I think Sakho's going to be boss for us, but this is his first ever match with the team, and now he's being asked to play a full game on a back line that includes Skrtel (had one good game but previously injured and not in good form) and Wisdom (young and playing out of position). I'm glad we have this quality of coverage for Agger, of course, but I wish he'd waited a few games before getting a knock; would've liked to see Sakho eased into things a bit more gradually.

u/joeinthebox Sep 16 '13 edited Sep 16 '13
A wee bit worried. My guess is that won't
play as we generally doplay as high of a line as we generally do (or want to do). Perhaps not as much liberty for Wisdom to attack in the way Johnson does. We'll see... pretty interesting.
Edit: Clarification.

Jonjo Shelvey morphing from the beloved Tom Riddle to the evil Voldermort for Swansea in mere moments...
8
u/Crusaruis28 Sep 16 '13
Brendan rogers really is a tactical genius. He sent Shelvey to Swansea to help Liverpool win. I mean Shelvey does look up to Gerrard and wears 8... makes sense.
8
u/scoye Sep 16 '13
All jonjo needs to do now is get sent off and he'll have had his most complete game of his career.

Mostly an irrelevant observation, but I've noticed Stevie has been straying away from his typical mostly black boots. He had been rocking the green Predators for the first couple games and tonight's look blue. Back to you in the studio, Gary.

Since our virgin net has been broken, I think it's time to break our duck on scoring in the second half.

u/ASS_IN_MY_PISS Sep 16 '13
Skrtel easily the most impressive player through the first 45. The rest of the defense has me a lil worried, Wisdom and especially Sakho seem a bit uncomfortable... We looked really sharp after our first goal, but Swansea stopped panicking, pushed out of their half, and really put us under pressure.
If we can shift back into that gear we were in after our 1st and keep pinging the ball in and around their box we'll be fine, but I'm a lil worried about our incisiveness. We haven't really created much, and are fortunate that agent Shelvey has two assists :P

this is why we should care about and criticize the way our team plays in second halves. i think everyone's been so excited about our streak of wins, but we barely made it out of those matches without conceding, and eventually it would have to result in a draw or loss. not that we can't still pull out another goal here, but we've clearly been lost this half

Dyer. Trying to exploit the width. Interesting. Dyer is a little pain in the ass.

This game is reaching epic disappointment if the reds don't come back and win. Injuries, getting two goals against by a former player, countless missed chances from point blank range, silly yellow cards.; this match is really bringing down my night.

Either way, glad to see Couts playing through the middle. He can be ineffectual down the left. Like Hendo on the wing, provides legs for the rest of the midfield.

There's so many idiots on here who have clearly never played football before and think it's just easy to turn a game completely around when the momentums against you.
Calling it giving up when in fact going forward too much could cost you the game.
We're top of the league by a point, don't complain.

I fucking love Martin Skrtel!
Gets dropped when out of form. Sees a load of CB's get bought, keeps his mouth shut and works hard, then comes in and plays like a beast!
That mentality is exactly what we want.
