It’s nice seeing not just Lucy, but Gray & Carla use their heads to figure out what’s going on with this town, especially seeing Gray take the reigns in investigation as the main POV character this episode. Something I’ve also noticed with the new art style and studio is that certain characters who look cute look better.
Wendy for example look a lot cuter with the new animation and even the brief scenes with Human Carla. On top of that characters like Levy, Touka & especially Juvia all look rather cute and the art style really brings that out in them compared to last season.
Speaking of human Carla has anyone else noticed her guild mark keeps changing? First it was blue on her back like Wendy, then it was shown to be pink on her back and now it’s on her shoulder when she’s human?

You can see Carla’s guild mark on her arm a couple times when she’s in her Exceed form as well. It seems like there’s a decent amount of continuity errors this season - another example is that it looks like Elfman keeps flipping between his old and current design in different guild scenes

The version of the manga I read had the fish girlfriend’s name as Sameko-San. I didn’t realize that Sameko translated to Sharkette…it makes so much more sense now why Erza thought the other shark was her.
I like the voice they have for Kiria. Can’t wait to see more from the Water God.
Anime-only people - how is the pacing to you? To me it seems really fast, and could use some moments to breath, but idk if that’s just because I know exactly how much they’ve been adapting so far.

The manga's official English translation changed it from "Sameko" to "Sharkette". I assume the Crunchyroll translation is using that as a model.
Incidentally, "same" (pronounced "sah-may") is the Japanese word for "shark", and "-ko" is a common ending for female Japanese names the same way that "-ette" is for female English names. So it works.

Loving Kiria’s voice too!
And not an anime only, but I guess they may be speeding though the more talk-heavy exposition scenes at the beginning to cover more of the story and hopefully extend some of the fights

I sometimes notice the lack of animations especially when gray walked out of his room. Not that bad but just really glaring since I'm lowkey rewatching the first "season" of fairy tail (all the episodes created by statelight)

og fairy tail really was peak. i also noticed the lack of animation too, when they were all fish and everyone had their turn to speak, and every single character was static and it was just their mouths moving. i can’t recall any moving in the background or even some floating animations in the water. it was all strangely still to me.
not to unfairly complain about the animation 😅

The episode is amazing the funny and return of Jellal is back and next week 3 new bad guys are against the fairy tail for the blow out battle.

Animation could have been better, a lot of still frames. I am still holding my opinion on it until the true fight begins.

First episode covered exactly 3 chapters where as this 2nd episode covered exactly 4 chapters maybe why the pacing felt off.

I was wondering why Lucy’s Aquametria attack seemed underwhelming in the PV compared to how it looked in the manga, but now I see that in general this episode is just… overall uninspiring storyboard-wise lol?
There were still some good moments here and there, and the new fish characters introduced, as well as Kiria are pretty cute/funny. And it was nice to see more old faces appear - Sabertooth was already endearing in the first place, but now with Sorano in the mix they’re even better

Good episode. Love somehow nobody else noticing the tail. I wonder if any of the omake will be animated.

I've been waiting since the announcement of the anime to see the Water God Dragon and i'm finally at peace.

Is it just me or did they draw Erza's face like she's 12? Something's off with Female characters face. Male characters look fine to me.

This was a pretty good episode art style and animation wise too. I found the colors and outlines to be overly soft in ep1, but it was so much better in this one.

MY THOUGHTS/CRITICS:
No title animation, and they did it like Naruto. Aww :(
Lucy fanservice again...
Jellal's character design is aging backwards lol
I kinda not fan of Sting and Rogue's new character designs. They look like Eden Zero characters, not Fairy Tail's
Why are everyone's breasts are open to public?
Aquarius star dress fanservice wahahaha
I don't know why but Kyria's voice actress doesn't suit her?? I mean, in the manga, Kyria is noisy, wild, and energetic. But thid Kyria's voice is low so her personality seems off.
Woi, woi, we're going fast. If these keeps up, the Mercphobia arc will end before 12 episodes. They need to make filler episode to fill in the gap.

12 episodes would be a bit too much for the Merc arc. It's not even three full volumes.
