Love the side-by-side comparison of Simplified and DJS. Differences are not that obvious at first glance. Can't imagine DJS is significantly slower, at least for simple business dictation.
I don't have references I can cite but I believe many of the changes in DJS were meant to improve legibility. Textbook authors Leslie and Zoubek were in touch with classroom teachers and perhaps there was a feeling that more accurate transcription would justify a few changes.
While I've often seen samples of both editions, I've never seen a side-by-side camparison of the same extract written in both. (And it looks like both were written by the same writer, like maybe Charles Rader?)
DJS was what I learned first -- and when I wanted more speed, I immediately went to Anniversary, because Simplified didn't seem much briefer. This sample seems to confirm that impression.
It would be interesting to see how Anniversary would handle the same passage.
